Pinelliae Rhizoma:a systematic review on botany,ethnopharmacology,phytochemistry,preclinical and clinical evidence

Pinelliae Rhizoma(PR), known as Banxia in Chinese, Hange in Japanese, and Banha in Korean,is a renowned herbal medicine in East Asia derived from the dry tuber of Pinellia ternata(Thunb.) Breit.(PT). It is extensively utilized in dispensing granules, classical prescriptions,and herbal formulas to treat various conditions, including cough, infection, phlegm, nausea,asthma, and inflammation. Despite numerous studies on PR and its classical prescriptions over recent decades, a comprehensive synthesis of available evidence regarding its multifunctional roles and therapeutic potential is lacking. This review aims to address this gap by examining emerging evidence from metabonomics, preclinical studies, and clinical trials, while exploring potential trends and prospects for future research. A systematic literature search was conducted across six electronic databases, including Pub Med, Web of Science, Scopus,Science Direct, Wanfang, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure, to identify relevant articles on PR published until March 2023. PR contains 107 compounds with diverse pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, immune regulatory, anti-viral, anti-cancer,anti-asthma, antitussive and expectorant, antioxidant, anti-obesity, anti-atherosclerosis, antimicrobial, emetic and anti-emetic, anti-convulsant and anti-epileptic, sedative and hypnotic,learning and memory enhancement, and anti-depressant effects. Metabonomic studies suggest that raw PR may exhibit cardiotoxicity and pregnancy toxicity while showing no apparent hepatorenal toxicity. However, limited pharmacokinetic investigations on PR constrain its clinical translation. Furthermore, clinical safety data on PR is scarce, with only four clinical trials assessing its positive effects in pediatric epilepsy, nausea and vomiting, soft tissue injury, and chronic sinus tract. Observation of Superconducting Pair Density Modulation within Lattice Unit Cell

In unconventional high-temperature (high-Tc) superconductors, the pair density wave state, an exotic superconducting order showing spatially periodic order parameter modulations with the period of several unit cells and translational symmetry breaking, has attracted broad attention. However, the superconducting pair density modulation (PDM) within a single unit cell has never been carefully investigated before. Here, using scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy, we report the observation of PDM in monolayer high-Tc iron chalcogenide films epitaxially grown on SrTiO3(001). The superconductivity modulations are characterized by the superconducting gap size and the coherence peak sharpness. Further analysis shows that the local maxima and minima in the superconducting gap modulation are centered at the crystallographic locations of the chalcogen atoms, revealing the breaking of the glide-mirror symmetry of the chalcogen atoms in monolayer high-Tc iron chalcogenide films grown on SrTiO3(001). Our findings provide precise microscopic information on superconductivity within the lattice unit cell and may promote the understanding of unconventional high-Tc superconductivity.

Disordered hyperuniformity and thermal transport in monolayer amorphous carbon

Disordered hyperuniformity(DHU)is a recently discovered novel state of amorphous systems characterized by strongly suppressed density fluctuations at large length scales as in crystalline materials,which offers great potential for achieving unusual mechanical,electronic,and photonic ***,despite the fundamental and technological importance of thermal transport in amorphous solids,the effect of DHU remains largely ***,we theoretically study thermal transport in a class of two-dimensional DHU materials—monolayer amorphous carbon(MAC).Beginning with a perfect graphene lattice,we continuously apply Stone-Wales transformations to generate a series of MAC models with varied degrees of disorder and defects,which are quantified through comprehensive structural analysis including the so-called hyperuniformity index(H),where a smaller H indicates a higher degree of ***,we conduct molecular dynamics simulations to obtain the thermal conductivity(κ).A significant correlation between the thermal transport behavior and degree of hyperuniformity is observed,with the room-temperatureκdecreasing from 26.3 to 5.3 W m^(-1)K^(-1)while H is tuned from 0.0004 to ***,two distinct transport regimes are identified,including a nearly-DHU regime at small H(<0.005)whereκdrops sharply and a non-DHU region at larger H whereκbecomes relatively ***-resolved analysis reveals longer lifetime and higher participation ratio for the heat carriers in nearly-DHU MAC,implying that the hidden long-range correlations could support extended modes that enhance *** work highlights the impact of DHU on the thermal properties of amorphous materials and represents a conceptual advancement that is worthy of future exploration.
