Factors influencing willingness to participate in ophthalmic clinical trials and strategies for effective recruitment

AIM:To explore the factors influencing individuals’willingness to participate in ophthalmic clinical ***:A questionnaire survey was conducted from January to April 2021 among patients and their family members at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center,Sun Yat-sen University,in Guangzhou,*** survey gathered data on respondents’willingness,demographic and socioeconomic profiles,as well as their reasons and concerns regarding engagement in clinical ***:Of the 1078 residents surveyed(mean age 31.2±13.1y;65.8%females)in Guangzhou,749(69.5%)expressed a willingness to participate in future ophthalmic clinical *** characteristics associated with greater willingness included a younger age,lower annual income,higher education,prior participation experience,previous ophthalmic treatment,and a better understanding of clinical *** the exception of age,these characteristics were significantly linked to a higher *** primary barrier to participation,expressed by 64.8%of those willing and 54.4%of those unwilling,was“Uncertain efficacy”.In terms of motivations,the willing group ranked“Better therapeutic benefits”(35.0%),“Professional monitoring”(34.3%),and“Trust in healthcare professionals”(33.1%)as their top three reasons,whereas the unwilling participants indicated“Full comprehension of the protocol”(46.2%)as the key ***:This study reveals a substantial willingness to participate in ophthalmic clinical trials and demonstrates the predictive role of demographic and socioeconomic *** in motivators and concerns between willing and unwilling participants highlight the significance of tailored recruitment ***,the need for and trust in healthcare professionals stand out as powerful motivations,underscoring the importance of enhancing physician-patient relationships,adopting patient-centered communication approaches,and addressing individualized needs to improve accrual rates.

Composite Thin-walled Lenticular Tube(CTLT)is increasingly utilized in small satellites missions as a lightweight,foldable,and rollable structural material that facilitates the construction of large deployable *** CTLT is initially flattened and coiled around a central hub for storage before launch,during which elastic energy is stored as deformation energy,allowing it to be self-deployed on demand for use in *** work presents a comprehensive investigation into the coiling,storage and deployment behaviors of CTLT that wraps around a central hub.A nonlinear explicit dynamic finite element model was developed with both deformable CTLT and rigidbodies mechanisms including the central hub and guide rollers,as well as the complex interactions among *** coiling mechanics characteristics such as stored strain energy and rotational moment were presented and validated against experimental data in the ***,the dynamic deployment behaviors were analyzed in terms of two different deployment methods,namely,controlled deployment and free *** effect of material property change during storage was also discussed through numerical experiments.

Pd Pt VO_(x)/CeO_(2)-ZrO_(2):Highly efficient catalysts with good sulfur dioxide-poisoning reversibility for the oxidative removal of ethylbenzene

The PdPtVO_(x)/CeO_(2)-ZrO_(2)(PdPtVO_(x)/CZO)catalysts were obtained by using different approaches,and their physical and chemical properties were determined by various *** activities of these materials in the presence of H_(2)O or SO_(2)were evaluated for the oxidation of ethylbenzene(EB).The PdPtVO_(x)/CZO sample exhibited high catalytic activity,good hydrothermal stability,and reversible sulfur dioxide-poisoning performance,over which the specific reaction rate at 160℃,turnover frequency at 160℃(TOF_(Pd or Pt)),and apparent activation energy were 72.6 mmol/(g_(Pt)·sec)or 124.2 mmol/(g_(Pd)·sec),14.2 sec^(-1)(TOF_(Pt))or 13.1 sec^(-1)(TOF_(Pd)),and 58 k J/mol,*** large EB adsorption capacity,good reducibility,and strong acidity contributed to the good catalytic performance of PdPtVO_(x)/*** activity of PdPtVO_(x)/CZO decreased when 50 ppm SO_(2)or(1.0 vol.%H_(2)O+50 ppm SO_(2))was added to the feedstock,but was gradually restored to its initial level after the SO_(2)was cut *** good reversible sulfur dioxide-resistant performance of PdPtVO_(x)/CZO was associated with the facts:(i)the introduction of SO_(2)leads to an increase in surface acidity;(ii)V can adsorb and activate SO_(2),thus accelerating formation of the SO_(x)^(2-)(x=3 or 4)species at the V and CZO sites,weakening the adsorption of sulfur species at the PdPt active sites,and hence protecting the PdPt active sites to be not poisoned by SO_(2).EB oxidation over PdPtVO_(x)/CZO might take place via the route of EB→styrene→phenyl methyl ketone→benzaldehyde→benzoic acid→maleic anhydride→CO_(2)and H_(2)O.

A guidance and control design with reduced information for a dual-spin stabilized projectile

In this paper,an integrated guidance and control method based on an adaptive path-following controller is proposed to control a spin-stabilized projectile with only translational motion information under the constraint of an actuator,uncertainties in aerodynamic parameters and measurements,and control system *** to the fairly high rotation speed,the dynamic model of this missile is strongly nonlinear,uncertain and coupled in pitch,yaw and roll channels.A theoretical equivalent resultant force and uncertainty compensation method are comprehensively used to realize decoupling of pitch and *** response to the strong nonlinear and time-varying characteristics of the dynamic system,the quasi-linear model whose parameters are obtained by interpolation of points selected as the segmentation points in the trajectory envelope,is used for calculation in each *** cope with the system uncertainty caused by model approximation,parameter uncertainty and ballistic interference,an extended state estimator is used to compensate the output feedback according to the test ballistic *** order to improve the tracking efficiency and ensure the tracking error convergence with only translational motion information,the virtual guide point,whose derivative is deduced according to the Lyapunov principle,is calculated in real time according to the projection relationship between the real-time position and the reference trajectory,and a virtual line-of-sight angle and the backstepping method are used for the design of the guidance and control *** order to avoid the influence of control input saturation on the guidance and control performance due to the actuator limitation and improve the robustness of the system,an anti-saturation compensator is designed according to the two-step *** feasibility and effectiveness of the path-following controller is verified through closed-loop flight simulations with measurement,control,and condition *** result

Survey on Construction of Safety Case Arguments

Safety cases provide clear, comprehensive, and reliable arguments which mean that a system’s operation under a specific environment meets acceptable safety levels. In safety-critical sectors subject to regulations such as automotive, aviation, and nuclear industries, certification authorities often require the system to undergo a rigorous safety assessment process and thus demonstrate that the system complies with one or more safety standards. The safety case utilization in system development is an emerging technical means to express the safety attributes of safety-critical systems in a structured and comprehensive way. This study briefly introduces the four basic steps of building a safety case, including determining the goal, gathering evidence, constructing arguments, and evaluating the case, and then focuses on the key step of constructing arguments. Meanwhile, eight existing forms of safety case expressions are introduced in detail, containing goal structuring notation (GSN), claim-argument-evidence (CAE), and structured assurance case metamodel (SACM), with their strengths and weaknesses analyzed. Given the significant complexity of the materials required for safety cases, software tools are often adopted as practical methods for constructing and evaluating safety cases. Additionally, seven tools for developing and evaluating safety cases are compared, including astah system safety, gsn2x, NOR-STA, Socrates, ASCE, D-Case Editor, and AdvoCATE. Furthermore, this study delves into multiple challenges in building safety cases. These challenges include data reliability and integrity, complexity and uncertainty management, inconsistencies in regulations and standards, human factor engineering, rapid technological advancements, and challenges in team and interdisciplinary collaboration. Barley Protein LFBEP-C1 from Lactiplantibacillus plantarum dy-1 Fermented Barley Extracts by Inhibiting Lipid Accumulation in a Caenorhabditis elegans Model

Objective This study aimed to investigate the lipid-lowering activity of LFBEP-C1 in high glucose-fed Caenorhabditis elegans(***).Methods In this study,the fermented barley protein LFBEP-C1 was prepared and tested for its potential anti-obesity effects on *** worms were fed Escherichia coli OP50(*** OP50),glucose,and different concentrations of *** size,lifespan,movement,triglyceride content,and gene expression were *** results were analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey's multiple comparison *** Compared with the model group,the head-swing frequency of *** in the group of LFBEP-C1 at 20μg/mL increased by 33.88%,and the body-bending frequency increased by 27.09%.This indicated that LFBEP-C1 improved the locomotive ability of *** average lifespan of *** reached 13.55 days,and the body length and width of the *** decreased after LFBEP-C1 ***,LFBEP-C1 reduced the content of lipid accumulation and triglyceride *** expression levels of sbp-1,daf-2,and mdt-15 significantly decreased,while those of daf-16,tph-1,mod-1,and ser-4 significantly increased after LFBEP-C1 *** in these genes explain the signaling pathways that regulate lipid *** LFBEP-C1 significantly reduced lipid deposition in *** fed a high-glucose diet and alleviated the adverse effects of a high-glucose diet on the development,lifespan,and exercise behavior of *** addition,LFBEP-C1 regulated lipid metabolism mainly by mediating the expression of genes in the sterol regulatory element-binding protein,insulin,and 5-hydroxytryptamine signaling pathways.

Ignition processes and characteristics of charring conductive polymers with a cavity geometry in precombustion chamber for applications in micro/nano satellite hybrid rocket motors

The Perturbed Compound Poisson Risk Model with Proportional Investment

In this paper, the insurance company considers venture capital and risk-free investment in a constant proportion. The surplus process is perturbed by diffusion. At first, the integro-differential equations satisfied by the expected discounted dividend payments and the Gerber-Shiu function are derived. Then, the approximate solutions of the integro-differential equations are obtained through the sinc method. Finally, the numerical examples are given when the claim sizes follow different distributions. Furthermore, the errors between the explicit solution and the numerical solution are discussed in a special case.

BACKGROUND Solitary fibrous tumors(SFT)are rare spindle cell tumors that are usually benign.A total of 10 cases of SFTs in the upper esophagus have ever been ***,we report the anesthetic management of a patient with a large isolated fibrous tumor of the upper esophagus compressing the tracheal *** also provide a literature review of the current *** SUMMARY We report the case of a 49 year old male with“cough aggravation and wheezing after exercise”,who underwent esophagectomy for a large isolated fibrous tumor compressing the tracheal membrane in the upper *** advise the use of a single-lumen tube with a blocker in patients with difficult airways to reduce the incidence of airway injury and fibrinoscopy at all stages of the perioperative period to guide airway *** case study is the first report of the anesthetic management of a large,isolated fibrous tumor compressing the tracheal membrane in the upper *** This rare case emphasizes the importance of perioperative management of anesthesia in patients with large isolated fibrous tumors of the upper esophagus that compress the tracheal *** use of blocker reduce the incidence of airway injury and fibrinoscopy at the perioperative period to guide airway mana-gement.

Effects of combustion temperature on the optical properties of brown carbon from biomass burning

Biomass burning has been known as one of main sources of Brown Carbon(BrC)in *** this study,by controlling the combustion temperature at 250℃,350℃,and 450℃,the methanol soluble organic carbon(MSOC)and methanol insoluble carbon(MISC)from pine wood burning was collected by ***–Vis,excitation emission matrix(EEM),TEM and FTIR spectra were applied to investigate the properties of BrC *** MSOC at 250℃ and 350℃,all the spectral profiles of UV–Vis absorption and excitation emission matrix are almost the same,while the EEM of MSOC at 450℃ are different from that of the other *** MISC fuorescence was observed only in the case of 450℃.In the FTIR spectra,with the temperature increasing the peaks associated to the oxygen-contained functions was weakened,indicating the formation of the fuorophores with larger conjugated system,especially aromatic *** results show that biomass combustion at low temperature produces more oxygen-riched BrC,which possesses relatively lower light absorption,while at high temperature produces more aromatics hydrocarbons with relatively strong light *** results of this work are helpful to trace the source of brown carbon and optimize biomass energy utilization.
