Precise Evolutionary Asteroseismology of High-AmplitudeδScuti Star AE Ursae Majoris

Stellar structure and evolution theory is one of the bases in modern astronomy.Stellar inner structures and their evolutionary states can be precisely tested by asteroseismology,since the inner information is brought to the stellar surface by the global oscillating waves and becomes observable.For stellar evolutionary speed(i.e.,how long timescale does a star stay at a special evolution phase?),because of the insurmountable gap between the timescales of the evolutionary history of human civilization and a star,it can only be roughly tested by ensemble of stars in different evolutionary stages in most cases,and all the snapshots of these stars make up our global view of stellar evolution.The effect of stellar evolution on the structure and the corresponding global size of a pulsating star will lead to tiny period variations of its pulsation modes,which are the most valuable indicators of its evolutionary state and can be used to test the stellar evolution theory by a single star rather than ensemble of stars.Here,we report a High-AmplitudeδScuti star AE Ursae Majoris,which is located in the post main-sequence(MS)evolutionary stage and its observed linear period variation rate can be practically ascribed to its evolutionary effect.The result tests the stellar evolution theory from the pre-MS to post-MS with an unprecedented precision by a single star,and the framework can be extended to other type of pulsating stars to perform precise evolutionary asteroseismology,which aims to test the current stellar evolution theory in different evolutionary stages,discover the discrepancies between the theory and observations,and ultimately build a complete and precise stellar evolution theory to backtrack the history of each of these stars.

Pulsation analysis of the high amplitude δ Scuti star CW Serpentis

Time-series photometric observations were made for the high amplitudeδScuti star CW Ser between 2011 and 2012 at the Xinglong Station of National Astronomical Observatories,Chinese Academy of Sciences.After performing the frequency analysis of the light curves,we confirmed the fundamental frequency of f=5.28677 c d 1,together with seven harmonics of the fundamental frequency,which are newly detected.No additional frequencies were detected.The O C diagram,produced with the 21 newly determined times of maximum light combined with those provided in the literature,helps to obtain a new ephemeris formula of the times of maximum light with the pulsation period of 0.189150355±0.000000003 d.

Origin of hardening in spectra of cosmic ray nuclei at a few hundred GeV using AMS-02 data

Many experiments have confirmed spectral hardening at a few hundred GeV in the spectra of cosmic ray(CR)nuclei.Three different origins have been proposed:primary source acceleration,propagation,and the superposition of different kinds of sources.In this work,a broken power law has been employed to fit each of the spectra of cosmic ray nuclei from AMS-02 directly,for rigidities greater than 45 GeV.The fitting results of the break rigidity and the spectral index differences less than and greater than the break rigidity show complicated relationships among different nuclear species,which cannot be reproduced naturally by a simple primary source scenario or a propagation scenario.However,with a natural and simple assumption,the superposition of different kinds of sources could have the potential to explain the fitting results successfully.Spectra of CR nuclei from a single future experiment,such as DAMPE,will provide us the opportunity to do cross checks and reveal the properties of the different kinds of sources.

RNAirport:a deep neural network-based database characterizing representative gene models inplants

A 5'-leader,known initially as the 5'-untranslated region,contains multiple isoforms due to alternative splicing(aS)and alternative transcription start site(aTSS).Therefore,a representative 5'-leader is demanded to examine the embedded RNA regulatory elements in controlling translation efficiency.Here,we develop a ranking algorithm and a deep-learning model to annotate representative 5'-leaders for five plant species.We rank the intra-sample and inter-sample frequency of aS-mediated transcript isoforms using the Kruskal-Wallis test-based algorithm and identify the representative aS-5'-leader.To further assign a representative 5'-end,we train the deep-learning model 5'leaderP to learn aTsS-mediated 5'-end distribution patterns from cap-analysis gene expression data.The model accurately predicts the 5'-end,confirmed experimentally in Arabidopsis and rice.The representative 5'-leader-contained gene models and 5'leaderP can be accessed at RNAirport(http:/***/leader5P/).The Stage 1 annotation of 5'-leader records 5'-leader diversity and will pave the way to Ribo-Seq open-reading frame annotation,identical to the project recently initiated by human GENCODE.

Living Chinese Herbal Scaffolds from Microfluidic Bioprinting for Wound Healing

Biological scaffolds have been widely employed in wound healing applications,while their practical efficiency is compromised by insufficient oxygen delivery to the 3-dimensional constructs and inadequate nutrient supply for the long-term healing process.Here,we present an innovative living Chinese herbal scaffold to provide a sustainable oxygen and nutrient supply for promoting wound healing.Through a facile microfluidic bioprinting strategy,a traditional Chinese herbal medicine(Panax notoginseng saponins[PNS])and a living autotrophic microorganism(microalgae Chlorella pyrenoidosa[MA])were successfully encapsulated into the scaffolds.The encapsulated PNS could be gradually released from the scaffolds,which promoted cell adhesion,proliferation,migration,and tube formation in vitro.In addition,benefiting from the photosynthetic oxygenation of the alive MA,the obtained scaffolds would produce sustainable oxygen under light illumination,exerting a protective effect against hypoxia-induced cell death.Based on these features,we have demonstrated through in vivo experiments that these living Chinese herbal scaffolds could efficiently alleviate local hypoxia,enhance angiogenesis,and thereby accelerate wound closure in diabetic mice,indicating their great potential in wound healing and other tissue repair applications.

As a ceramic material,AlN has very good thermophysical and mechanical properties.In addition,AlN is an effective refining agent for Mg alloys because it has a lattice constant similar to that of Mg.Therefore,AlN is an ideal reinforcement for magnesium matrix composites(MMCs),and is attracting increasing attention.This review addresses the development of preparation technologies for AlN-reinforced Mg matrix composites.The mainstream preparation techniques include stir casting,melt infiltration,powder metallurgy,and in-situ methods.In addition,the advantages and disadvantages of these techniques are analyzed in depth,and it is pointed out that the next direction for the preparation of high-performance AlN-reinforced MMCs is less aluminization and multiple technologies integration.

Obesity is defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health.Obesity is associated with numerous pathological changes including insulin resistance,fatty liver,hyperlipidemias,and other obesity-related diseases.These comorbidities comprise a significant public health threat.Existing anti-obesity drugs have been limited by side effects that include depression,suicidal thoughts,cardiovascular complications and stroke.Acupuncture treatment has been shown to be effective for treating obesity and obesity-related conditions,while avoiding side effects.However,the mechanisms of acupuncture in treating obesity-related diseases,especially its effect on neural circuits,are not well understood.A growing body of research has studied acupuncture’s effects on the endocrine system and other mechanisms related to the regulation of neural circuits.In this article,recent research that was relevant to the use of acupuncture to treat obesity and obesity-related diseases through the neuroendocrine system,as well as some neural circuits involved,was summarized.Based on this,acupuncture’s potential ability to regulate neural circuits and its mechanisms of action in the endocrine system were reviewed,leading to a deeper mechanistic understanding of acupuncture’s effects and providing insight and direction for future research about obesity.

Hearing loss is one of the most common sensory disorders worldwide,affecting approximately 466 million people,including 34 million children[1].Genetic mutations accounts for approximately 60%of inherited hearing loss cases[2,3].These genetic changes result in a wide variety of clinical manifestations,ranging from nonsyndromic hearing loss(NSHL)to over 400 syndromes involving hearing loss and from mild adult-onset hearing loss to profound congenital deafness,covering the entire spectrum of Mendelian inheritance.

Progress in the research on organic piezoelectric catalysts for dye decomposition

Organic contaminants have posed a direct and substantial risk to human wellness and the environment.In recent years,piezo-electric catalysis has evolved as a novel and effective method for decomposing these contaminants.Although piezoelectric materials offer a wide range of options,most related studies thus far have focused on inorganic materials and have paid little attention to organic materi-als.Organic materials have advantages,such as being lightweight,inexpensive,and easy to process,over inorganic materials.Therefore,this paper provides a comprehensive review of the progress made in the research on piezoelectric catalysis using organic materials,high-lighting their catalytic efficiency in addressing various pollutants.In addition,the applications of organic materials in piezoelectric cata-lysis for water decomposition to produce hydrogen,disinfect bacteria,treat tumors,and reduce carbon dioxide are presented.Finally,fu-ture developmental trends regarding the piezoelectric catalytic potential of organic materials are explored.

Identification of novel genes associated with atherosclerosis in Bama miniature pig

Background:Atherosclerosis is a chronic cardiovascular disease of great concern.However,it is difficult to establish a direct connection between conventional small animal models and clinical practice.The pig's genome,physiology,and anatomy reflect human biology better than other laboratory animals,which is crucial for studying the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.Methods:We used whole-genome sequencing data from nine Bama minipigs to perform a genome-wide linkage analysis,and further used bioinformatic tools to filter and identify underlying candidate genes.Candidate gene function prediction was performed using the online prediction tool STRING 12.0.Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence were used to detect the expression of proteins encoded by candidate genes.Results:We mapped differential single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)to genes and obtained a total of 102 differential genes,then we used GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis to identify four candidate genes,including SLA-1,SLA-2,SLA-3,and TAP2.nsSNPs cause changes in the primary and tertiary structures of SLA-I and TAP2 proteins,the primary structures of these two proteins have undergone amino acid changes,and the tertiary structures also show slight changes.In addition,immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence results showed that the expression changes of TAP2 protein in coronary arteries showed a trend of increasing from the middle layer to the inner layer.Conclusions:We have identified SLA-I and TAP2 as potential susceptibility genes of atherosclerosis,highlighting the importance of antigen processing and immune response in atherogenesis.
