Weakly Polarized Organic Cation-Modified Hydrated Vanadium Oxides for High-Energy Efficiency Aqueous Zinc-Ion Batteries

Vanadium oxides,par-ticularly hydrated forms like V_(2)O_(5)·nH_(2)O(VOH),stand out as promising cathode candidates for aqueous zinc ion batteries due to their adjustable layered structure,unique electronic characteristics,and high theoretical capacities.However,challenges such as vanadium dissolution,sluggish Zn^(2+)diffusion kinetics,and low operating voltage still hinder their direct application.In this study,we present a novel vanadium oxide([C_(6)H_(6)N(CH_(3))_(3)]_(1.08)V_(8)O_(20)·0.06H_(2)O,TMPA-VOH),developed by pre-inserting trimethylphenylammonium(TMPA+)cations into VOH.The incorporation of weakly polarized organic cations capitalizes on both ionic pre-intercalation and molecular pre-intercalation effects,resulting in a phase and morphology transition,an expansion of the interlayer distance,extrusion of weakly bonded interlayer water,and a substantial increase in V^(4+)content.These modifications synergistically reduce the electrostatic interactions between Zn^(2+)and the V-O lattice,enhancing structural stability and reaction kinetics during cycling.As a result,TMPA-VOH achieves an elevated open circuit voltage and operation voltage,exhibits a large specific capacity(451 mAh g^(-1)at 0.1 A g^(-1))coupled with high energy efficiency(89%),the significantly-reduced battery polarization,and outstanding rate capability and cycling stability.The concept introduced in this study holds great promise for the development of high-performance oxide-based energy storage materials.

Novel self-assembled porous yolk-shell NiO nanospheres with excellent electrochromic performance for smart windows

With the rapid development of optoelectronics,electrochromic(EC)materials(ECMs)with the advan-tages of low power consumption,easy viewing,high contrast ratio,etc have attached more and more attention from the fields of smart windows,electronic billboards,emerging wearable and portable electronics,and other next-generation displays.Nickel oxide(NiO)is a promising candidate for high-performance ECMs because of its neutral-colored states and low cost.However,NiO-based ECMs still face the problem of slow switching speed due to their low electrical conductivity and small lattice spacing.Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)are promising candidates to fabricate hollow and porous transition metal oxides(TMOs)with high ion transport efficiency,excellent specific capacitance,and electrochemical activities.In this work,porous yolk-shell NiO nanospheres(PYS-NiO NSs)were syn-thesized via a solvothermal and subsequent calcination process of Ni-MOF,which exhibited outstanding EC performance.Because the large specific surface areas and hollow porous nanostructures were conducive to ionic transport,PYS-NiO NSs exhibited a fast coloring/bleaching speed(3.6/3.9 s per one coloring/bleaching cycle)and excellent cycling stability(82%of capacity retention after 3000 cycles).These superior EC properties indicated that the PYS-NiO NSs was a promising candidate for high-performance EC devices.This work provides a new and feasible strategy for the efficient preparation of TMOs ECMs with good EC performance,especially fast switching speed.

Origin and evolution of false brinelling and fretting corrosion under rolling conditions

Rolling bearings working in oscillating applications often suffer from false brinelling and fretting corrosion that limit their service life.At present,the study of oscillation-induced failures is primarily dominated by a large number of sliding and bench tests.However,most of the previous work are not able to fully describe the two closely related but different failure mechanisms.In this study,the origin and evolution of the two failures are thoroughly investigated under strictly controlled oscillating rolling conditions.The results show that failure evolves from false brinelling to fretting corrosion under dry friction conditions regardless of the oscillation amplitude.This process is accompanied by a large area peeling and serious oxidation,and the oxygen content increases from 2.50 wt%to 21.22 wt%.Oxidation is a crucial factor in the evolution of false brinelling into fretting corrosion.However,the distribution of microwear and oxygen content depend on the oscillation amplitude.Under lubrication conditions,the friction coefficient(COF)is smaller in the initial stage and led to local slip or transient instability of rolling elements.Therefore,the size of the wear marks and COF increased and appeared to be larger than those under a dry friction condition.However,grease can separate the contact surfaces,only surface deformation owing to false brinelling and slight damage at the roughness level occurred.The evolution of false brinelling and fretting corrosion is also closely related to residual stress.False brinelling often occurrs with residual stress accomulation,meanwhile,the residual stress increases from 120 to 300 MPa.When peeling occurs,residual stress is released.The failure pattern transformed from false brinelling to fretting corrosion and is accompanied by oxidation.So far,none of investigation is able to show satisfactory evolution of oscillating-induced failures,this study may contribute to more scientific understanding of rolling bearings against long-run reciprocating oscillating wear.

Palladium Complexes with N,O-Bidentate Ligands Based on N-Oxide Units from Cyclic Secondary Amines:Synthesis and Catalytic Application in Mizoroki-Heck Reaction

Palladium-catalyzed Mizoroki-Heck reaction is a powerful and efficient method for construction of Csp2–Csp2 bonds.Herein,four palladium complexes(I—IV)with N,O-bidentate ligands(L1—L4)based on N-oxide units from cyclic secondary amines were easily synthesized and successfully applied in Mizoroki-Heck reaction of aryl bromides with electron-deficient olefins.X-ray diffraction analyses indicated the palladium(II)atom of II took the distorted square planar geometry and was four-coordinated by nitrogen and oxygen atoms from two ligands(L2).Two free chloride ions were presented as counter anions in complex II.But the palladium(II)center of IV was coordinated by nitrogen and oxygen atoms from one ligand(L4)as well as two chlorine atoms,which exhibited the nearly square-planar geometry.The study on catalytic properties of palladium complexes revealed that complex II exhibited high activity superior to the other complexes.The coupling reactions of a series of aryl bromides and olefin derivatives proceeded in the presence of 2—5 mol%palladium complex II,giving the desired products in good to excellent yields.The advantages of this method such as good compatibility of functional groups,high yields,and short reaction times made it more attractive for constructing Csp2–Csp2 bonds in the synthesis of functional molecules and materials.

Fatigue Crack Initiation and Propagation Dominated by Crystallographic Factors in TiB/near a-Ti

Discontinuously reinforced titanium matrix composites(DRTMCs)with a network structure have been extensively researched due to their superior combination of strength and ductility.However,their fatigue performance has remained unknown.In order to elucidate the fatigue behavior of DRTMCs,a tension-tension fatigue test was performed on a TiB/nearα-Ti composite with network structure.The results showed that the variability of fatigue lifetime increased as the stress level decreased.Fractography analysis indicated that fatigue crack initiation was associated with facet formation,while the subsequent propagation was hindered by the network structure comprising TiB whiskers and silicides.Crystallographic characterization further revealed that facets formed due to a combination of shear and normal stress.The reduction in fatigue lifetime was attributed to an increase in the effective slip length,which was influenced by the orientation of grains near the crack-initiation sites toward basal slip in the life-limiting specimen.Quasi in situ observation suggested that the crack initiation was facilitated by both basal and prismatic slip ofα-Ti as well as fracture of TiBw.Crack propagation was found to be associated with basal and prismatic slip systems with high Schmid factors,regardless of whether the crack was intergranular or intragranular.

Intermittent melena and refractory anemia due to jejunal cavernous lymphangioma:A case report

BACKGROUND Lymphangiomas in the gastrointestinal tract are extremely rare in adults.As a benign lesion,small intestine lymphangiomas often remain asymptomatic and pose challenges for definitive diagnosis.However,lymphangiomas can give rise to complications such as abdominal pain,bleeding,volvulus,and intussusception.Here,we report a case of jejunal cavernous lymphangioma that presented with intermittent melena and refractory anemia in a male adult.CASE SUMMARY A 66-year-old man presented with intermittent melena,fatigue and refractory anemia nine months prior.Esophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy were performed many times and revealed no apparent bleeding.Conservative management,including transfusion,hemostasis,gastric acid secretion inhibition and symptomatic treatment,was performed,but the lesions tended to recur shortly after surgery.Ultimately,the patient underwent capsule endoscopy,which revealed a more than 10 cm lesion accompanied by active bleeding.After singleballoon enteroscopy and biopsy,a diagnosis of jejunal cavernous lymphangioma was confirmed,and the patient underwent surgical resection.No complications or recurrences were observed postoperatively.CONCLUSION Jejunal cavernous lymphangioma should be considered a cause of obscure gastrointestinal bleeding.Capsule endoscopy and single-balloon enteroscopy can facilitate diagnosis.Surgical resection is an effective management method.

NLRP3/1-mediated pyroptosis:beneficial clues for the development of novel therapies for Alzheimer’s disease

The inflammasome is a multiprotein complex involved in innate immunity that mediates the inflammatory response leading to pyroptosis,which is a lytic,inflammatory form of cell death.There is accumulating evidence that nucleotide-binding domain and leucine-rich repeat pyrin domain containing 3(NLRP3)inflammasome-mediated microglial pyroptosis and NLRP1 inflammasome-mediated neuronal pyroptosis in the brain are closely associated with the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease.In this review,we summarize the possible pathogenic mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease,focusing on neuroinflammation.We also describe the structures of NLRP3 and NLRP1 and the role their activation plays in Alzheimer’s disease.Finally,we examine the neuroprotective activity of small-molecule inhibitors,endogenous inhibitor proteins,microRNAs,and natural bioactive molecules that target NLRP3 and NLRP1,based on the rationale that inhibiting NLRP3 and NLRP1 inflammasome-mediated pyroptosis can be an effective therapeutic strategy for Alzheimer’s disease.

Species profile and reactivity of volatile organic compounds emission in solvent uses,industry activities and from vehicular tunnels

A survey was conducted of the volatile organic compounds(VOCs)released from sources of solvent use,industry activities and vehicle emissions in Guiyang,a capital city of China.Samples were collected by canisters and analyzed by GC-MS-FID.The species profiles of VOCs emitted from sources were obtained.Results showed that xylenes,ethylbenzene,acetone and dichloromethane were the characteristics species for painting,2-propanol and ethyl acetate for printing,α-pinene for solid wood furniture manufacturing,and 2-butanone for biscuit baking.These characteristics species could be as tracers for the sources respectively.In most of samples from the solvent use,the benzene/toluene(B/T)ratio was less than 0.3,indicating that the ratio could be as the indicator for tracing the solvent use related sources.The results also suggested that the toluene/xylene(T/X)ratio be as the indicator to distinguish the VOCs sources of painting(2).Aromatics contributed the most to ozone formation potential(OFP)of most painting and non-paper printing sources,and oxygen-containing VOCs(OVOCs)were major species contributing to OFP of the sources from food production and paper printing.The OFP of the VOCs emissions from vehicle in tunnels and from other manufactures were dominated by both aromatics and alkenes.Theα-pinene could explain 56.94%and 32.54%of total OFP of the VOCs sources from filing cabinet and solid wood furniture manufacturing,which was rarely been involved in previous studies of VOCs source profiles,indicating that the species of concern for VOCs sources are still insufficient at present.

Protein translation is a tightly regulated cellular process that is essential for gene expression and protein synthesis.The deregulation of this process is increasingly recognized as a critical factor in the pathogenesis of various human diseases.In this review,we discuss how deregulated translation can lead to aberrant protein synthesis,altered cellular functions,and disease progression.We explore the key mechanisms contributing to the deregulation of protein translation,including functional alterations in translation factors,tRNA,mRNA,and ribosome function.Deregulated translation leads to abnormal protein expression,disrupted cellular signaling,and perturbed cellular functions-all of which contribute to disease pathogenesis.The development of ribosome profiling techniques along with mass spectrometry-based proteomics,mRNA sequencing and single-cell approaches have opened new avenues for detecting diseases related to translation errors.Importantly,we highlight recent advances in therapies targeting translation-related disorders and their potential applications in neurodegenerative diseases,cancer,infectious diseases,and cardiovascular diseases.Moreover,the growing interest lies in targeted therapies aimed at restoring precise control over translation in diseased cells is discussed.In conclusion,this comprehensive review underscores the critical role of protein translation in disease and its potential as a therapeutic target.Advancements in understanding the molecular mechanisms of protein translation deregulation,coupled with the development of targeted therapies,offer promising avenues for improving disease outcomes in various human diseases.Additionally,it will unlock doors to the possibility of precision medicine by offering personalized therapies and a deeper understanding of the molecular underpinnings of diseases in the future.

New recessive compound heterozygous variants of RP1L1 in RP1L1 maculopathy

AIM:To identify a maculopathy patient caused by new recessive compound heterozygous variants in RP1L1.METHODS:Comprehensive retinal morphological and functional examinations were evaluated for the patient with RP1L1 maculopathy.Targeted sequence capture array technique was used to screen potential pathologic variants.Polymerase chain reaction and Sanger sequencing were used to confirm the screening results.RESULTS:Fundus examination showed round macular lesions appeared in both eyes.Optical coherence tomography showed that the inner segment/outer segment continuity was disorganized and disruptive in the left eye,but it was uneven and slightly elevated in the right eye.Fundus autofluorescence showed patchy hyper-autofluorescence in the macula.Visual field examination indicates central defects in both eyes.Electroretinogram(ERG)and multifocal ERG showed no obvious abnormalities.Fundus fluorescein angiography in the macula showed obviously irregular hyper-fluorescence in the right eye and slightly hyper-fluorescence in the left eye.We found that the proband carried a missense variant(c.1972C>T)and a deletion variant(c.4717_4718del)of RP1L1,which were originated from the parents and formed compound heterozygous variants.Both variants are likely pathogenic according to the ACMG criteria.Multimodal imaging,ERG and detailed medical history are important diagnostic tools for differentiating between acquired and inherited retinal disorders.CONCLUSION:A maculopathy case with detailed retinal phenotype and new recessive compound heterozygous variants of RP1L1 is identified in a Chinese family,which expands the understanding of phenotype and genotype in RP1L1 maculopathy.
