Water effect on band alignment of GaP: A theoretical insight into pyridinium catalyzed CO2 reduction

GaP has been shown to have good photo-catalytic activity in pyridinium catalyzed COreduction. The photo-excited electrons in the conduction band of GaP should have a sufficient reduction potential to drive the reduction of pyridinium and CO. In this work, we have studied water adsorption on the GaP surface using density functional theory calculations, and its effect on the band alignment. Our calculations have shown that there are surface states present near the band edges due to unsaturated dangling bonds, and water adsorption can remove these states partially or almost completely depending on the adsorption states of water. More importantly, we have found that water adsorption has considerable effects on the band alignment, shifting up the band positions by up to 0.5 eV compared to the bare *** computed level of the conduction band with the adsorption of water is rather close to the reduction level of pyridinium ions, thus suggesting that photo-excited electrons are thermodynamically possible to reduce pyridinium to pyridinyl radicals that further help COreduction.

To study the effect of the sugar chains in glycoalkaloids against cancer cells, 6-0-sulfated solamargine and acidcatalyzed hydrolytic products of α-solamargine and α-solasonine were prepared. The sulfation at 0-6 of solamargine was proceeded in five steps. The 6-OH group was first selectively protected with DMT-Cl, and then the secondary hydroxyl groups on the sugar ring were acetylated. After the protective group DMTr was removed, the free 6-OH group was sulfated. Finally, the acetyl groups were removed to give 6-0-sulfated solamargine in a good yield. The hydrolyses of solamargine and solasonine were performed in diluted hydrogen chlorede. Three and two hydrolyzed products were obtained from solamargine and solasonine, respectively. The antiproliferative activities against HCT-8 tumor cells of two glycoalkaloids and their derivaties were examined via a MTT assay. The results show that α-solamargine and α-solasonine exhibit strong cytotoxic activities with an IC50 of 10. 63 and 11.97 μmol/L, respectively, wheras their derivaties seem to be less activities.

A three-dimensional finite-element model has been established to investigate the thermal behavior of the medium-thick slab copper casting mold with different cooling water slot designs. The mold wall temperatures measured using thermocouples buried in different positions of the mold with the original designed cooling system were analyzed to determine the corresponding heat flux profile. This profile was then used for simulation to predict the temperature distribution and the thermal stress distribution of the molds. The predicted temperatures during operation matched the plant measurements. The results showed that the maximum temperature, about 635 K in the wide hot surface, was found about 60 mm below the meniscus and 226 mm from the center of the mold. For the mold with the type I modified design, there was an insignificant decrease in temperature of about 5 K, and for the mold with the type II modified design, the maximum temperature was decreased by about 15 K and the temperature of the hot surface was distributed more uniformly along the length of the mold. The corresponding maximum thermal stress at the hot surface of the mold was reduced from 408 MPa to 386 MPa with the type II modified design. The results indicated that the modified design II is beneficial to the increase of mold life and the quality of casting slabs.

The danger of mycotoxin contamination entering the food supply through post-harvest infection is of perennial concern to food safety experts. To explore the distribution of Penicillium expansum and diffusion of its mycotoxin, patulin, in blue mold-damaged pears, Pyrus bretschneideri Rehd. cv. Yali obtained from markets and orchards in China were artificially inoculated with P. expansum and assayed for patulin accumulation and degree of fungal colonization. The inoculated pears were incubated until the lesions were 5, 10, 20, or 30 mm in diameter. We sampled tissue at a range of distances from the lesion, measured the spread of Penicillium by plate colony-counting methods, and used UHPLC-MS/MS to detect and quantify the patulin concentration. More P. expansum colony-forming units were isolated from pears with a higher degree of decay. Farther from the lesion, the fewer P. expansum colonies were observed, and the lower the patulin content detected. We found a significant difference in the patulin content between samples due to lesion size, and also in tissue sampled 10 mm away from the lesion. In consideration of this finding, to ensure food safety, we recommend that when a blue mold rot lesion on pear is 5, 10, or 20 mm in diameter, 20, 30, and 40 mm beyond the lesion should be removed, respectively. If a lesion surpasses 30 mm in diameter, the whole pear should be thrown away.

A cold method was used to prepare coated sand for application in the selective laser sintering(SLS)*** strength,loss on ignition,gas evolution,and accuracy of the SLS samples were tested and analyzed,and the baking process was thoroughly *** with coated sand prepared by the hot method,the cold method yields a more uniform and complete resin film on the sand's surface,resulting in enhanced tensile strength and ***,the cold method requires a lower binder content to meet the same strength requirements,thereby minimizing gas evolution,reducing porosity defects,and ultimately improving casting *** coated sand samples prepared through the cold method exhibit superior accuracy,with a size error of within±0.4 *** contrast,the coated sand samples prepared by the hot method display a lower accuracy,with an average negative error of 2.1993 *** highest tensile strength could be attained by controlling the baking temperature within a suitable range(180-190℃),which can effectively reduce the generation of gas,thus contributing to improved overall performance.
