The development of conjugated polymer photocatalysts for efficient solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion is highly desirable for the sustainability of our society.Although the construction of donor-acceptor(D-A)structure in conjugated polymer photocatalysts for solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion has been well documented,less attention has been paid on how large D and how large A units combined together could achieve the best performance.Herein,a series of D-A copolymers P(BDT-DBTSOx)(x=7,19,39,and 79)composed of a benzodithiophene(BDT)donor unit and an oligomeric dibenzo[b,d]thiophene sulfone(DBTSO)acceptor segment were synthesized and studied.It was found that the polymer photocatalytic stabilities under full-arc irradiation improved upon shortening the length of the acceptor segment.Under visible light irradiation and in the presence of 3 wt%Pt cocatalyst,P(BDT-DBTSO79)displayed the best performance with an optimal hydrogen evolution rate of 119.3±5.8 mmol·g^(-1)·h^(-1).This is 1.4-fold as that of DBTSO homopolymer and 22.5-fold as that of BDT/DBTSO alternative copolymer,highlighting the importance of acceptor length in D-A structure for achieving high photocatalytic performance.

Accurately determining the quadrupole deformation parameters of atomic nuclei is crucial for understanding their structural and dynamic properties.This study introduces an innovative approach that combines transfer learning techniques with neural networks to predict the quadrupole deformation parameters of even-even nuclei.With the application of this innovative technique,the quadrupole deformation parameters of 2331 even-even nuclei are successfully predicted within the nuclear region defined by proton numbers 8≤Z≤134 and neutron numbers N≥8.Additionally,we discuss the impact of nuclear quadrupole deformation parameters on the capture cross-sections in heavy-ion fusion reactions,reconstructing the capture cross-sections for the reactions48Ca+244Pu and48Ca+248Cm.This research offers new insights into the application of neural networks in nuclear physics and highlights the potential of merging advanced machine learning techniques with both theoretical and experimental data,particularly in fields where experimental data are limited.

Metformin has been used for the treatment of type II diabetes mellitus for decades due to its safety,low cost,and outstanding hypoglycemic effect clinically.The mechanisms underlying these benefits are complex and still not fully understood.Inhibition of mitochondrial respiratory-chain complex I is the most described downstream mechanism of metformin,leading to reduced ATP production and activation of AMP-activated protein kinase(AMPK).Meanwhile,many novel targets of metformin have been gradually discovered.In recent years,multiple pre-clinical and clinical studies are committed to extend the indications of metformin in addition to diabetes.Herein,we summarized the benefits of metformin in four types of diseases,including metabolic associated diseases,cancer,aging and age-related diseases,neurological disorders.We comprehensively discussed the pharmacokinetic properties and the mechanisms of action,treatment strategies,the clinical application,the potential risk of metformin in various diseases.This review provides a brief summary of the benefits and concerns of metformin,aiming to interest scientists to consider and explore the common and specific mechanisms and guiding for the further research.Although there have been countless studies of metformin,longitudinal research in each field is still much warranted.

AMP-activated protein kinase(AMPK)is a conserved energy sensor that plays roles in diverse biological processes via phosphorylating various substrates.Emerging studies have demonstrated the regulatory roles of AMPK in DNA repair,but the underlying mechanisms remain to be fully understood.Herein,using mass spectrometry-based proteomic technologies,we systematically investigate the regulatory network of AMPK in DNA damage response(DDR).Our system-wide phosphoproteome study uncovers a variety of newly-identified potential substrates involved in diverse biological processes,whereas our system-wide histone modification analysis reveals a link between AMPK and histone acetylation.Together with these findings,we discover that AMPK promotes apoptosis by phosphorylating apoptosis-stimulating of p53 protein 2(ASPP2)in an irradiation(IR)-dependent manner and regulates histone acetylation by phosphorylating histone deacetylase 9(HDAC9)in an IR-independent manner.Besides,we reveal that disrupting the histone acetylation by the bromodomain BRD4 inhibitor JQ-1 enhances the sensitivity of AMPKdeficient cells to IR.Therefore,our study has provided a resource to investigate the interplay between phosphorylation and histone acetylation underlying the regulatory network of AMPK,which could be beneficial to understand the exact role of AMPK in DDR.

Mutations in the Contactin-associated protein-like 2(CNTNAP2)gene are associated with autism spectrum disorder(ASD),and ectodomain shedding of the CNTNAP2 protein plays a role in its function.However,key enzymes involved in the C-terminal cleavage of CNTNAP2 remain largely unknown,and the effect of ASD-associated mutations on this process and its role in ASD pathogenesis remain elusive.In this report we showed that CNTNAP2 undergoes sequential cleavages by furin,ADAM10/17-dependent a-secretase and presenilindependent y-secretase.We identified that the cleavage sites of ADAM10 and ADAM17 in CNTNAP2 locate at its C-terminal residue I79 and L96,and the main a-cleavage product C79 by ADAM10 is required for the subsequent y-secretase cleavage to generate CNTNAP2 intracellular domain(CICD).ASD-associated CNTNAP2 mutations impair the a-cleavage to generate C79,and the inhibition leads to ASDIlike repetitive and social behavior abnormalties in the Cntnap2l1254T knock-in mice.Finaly,exogenous expression of 79 improves autism-ike phenotypes in the Cntnap2^(11254T) knock-in and Cntnap2^(-/-)knockout mice.This data demonstrates that the a-secretase is essential for CNTNAP2 processing and its function.Our study indicates that inhibition of the cleavage by pathogenic mutations underlies ASD pathogenesis,and upregulation of its C-terminal fragments could have therapeutical potentials for ASD treatment.

The development of inexpensive metal-nitrogen-carbon(M-N-C)catalysts for electrochemical CO_(2)reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR)on an industrial scale has come to a standstill.Although the number of related studies and reviews has grown fast,the complexity of the M-N-C composite has limited researchers to focus on only a few variables and carry out sluggish trial-and-error optimizations in their studies.As a result,the conclusions are drawn only by artificial analysis based on a few orthogonal experimental results.To obtain more general design strategies,we have innovatively introduced machine learning(ML)into this field to address this bottleneck.A standard workflow that comprehensively utilizes different ML algorithms and black-box interpretation methods is proposed for this purpose.Besides predicting CO_(2)RR performance metrics for M-N-C catalysts,such as maximum faradaic efficiency with great accuracy,the ML models have also indicated simple and clear design strategies that would guide future exploration from a data science perspective.Besides,we have also demonstrated the potential of the models in guiding the development of new material systems.We thereby believe that the new research paradigm proposed may accelerate the development of this field soon.

Performance of the Large Field of View Airborne Infrared Scanner and its application potential in land surface temperature retrieval

The Large Field of View Airborne Infrared Scanner is a newly developed multi-spectral instrument that collects images from the near-infrared to long-wave infrared channels.Its data can be used for land surface temperature(LST)retrieval and environmental monitoring.Before data application,quality assessment is an essential procedure for a new instrument.In this paper,based on the data collected by the scanner near the Yellow River in Henan Province,the geometric and radiometric qualities of the images are first evaluated.The absolute geolocation accuracy of the ten bands of the scanner is approximately 5.1 m.The ground sampling distance is found to be varied with the whisk angles of the scanner and the spatial resolution of the images.The band-to-band registration accuracy between band one and the other nine bands is approximately 0.25 m.The length and angle deformations of the ten bands are approximately 0.67%and 0.3°,respectively.The signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)and relative radiometric calibration accuracy of bands 4,9,and 10 are relatively better than those of the other bands.Secondly,the radiative transfer equation(RTE)method is used to retrieve the LST from the data of the scanner.Measurements of in situ samples are collected to evaluate the retrieved LST.Neglecting the samples with unreasonable retrieved LST,the bias and RMSE between in situ LST measured by CE312 radiometer and retrieved LST are−0.22 K and 0.94 K,and the bias and RMSE are 0.27 K and 1.59 K for the InfReC R500-D thermal imager,respectively.Overall,the images of the Large Field of View Airborne Infrared Scanner yield a relatively satisfactory accuracy for both LST retrieval and geometric and radiometric qualities.

Effects of grain boundary on irradiation-induced zero-dimensional defects in an irradiated copper

Grain boundaries(GBs)can serve as effective sinks for radiation-induced defects,thus notably influencing the service performance of materials.However,the effect of GB structures on the zero-dimensional defects induced by irradiation has not been fully elucidated.Here,the evolution of cascade collision in the single-crystal(SC),bicrystalline(BC),and twinned crystalline(TC)copper is studied by atomic simulations during irradiation.The spatial distributions of vacancies and interstitials are closely related to the GB at a certain primary knock-on atom(PKA)energy.Compared with the TC,the BC displays a more obvious segregation of the interstitial atoms near GB,due to the characteristic of the greater interstitial binding energy.The evolution of Frenkel pairs is more sensitive to the change of the GB position in the BC.A more prominent defect annihilation rate is caused by the effect of the GB than that of the twin boundary(TB).The marked secondary emission phenomenon has been observed in the BC,which promotes the formation of an inverted pagoda-like defect distribution.There are similar sub-conical defect distributions and microstructures induced by cascade collision in the TC and the SC.It has been found that the influence range of the GB is wider in the BC.Meanwhile,the average flow stress of the irradiated copper is quantitatively calculated by establishing a physical strengthening model.The contribution of vacancy to the average flow stress in the irradiated BC and TC is obvious than that in the SC,due to the formation of many vacancies.This study provides a theoretical basis for further understanding and customization of the metal-based equipment with good radiation resistance.
