A new study provides a comprehensive molecular mechanism that controls interspecific incompatibility of self-incompatible(SI)plants in the Brassicaceae.This finding points to a potentially promising path to break interspecific barriers and achieve introgression of desirable traits into crops from distant species among SI crops in the Brassicaceae.

The Ti-5Al-2Sn-4Zr-4Mo-2Cr-1Fe(β-CEZ)alloy is considered as a potential structural material in the aviation industry due to its outstanding strength and corrosion resistance.Electrochemical machining(ECM)is an efficient and low-cost technology for manufacturing theβ-CEZ alloy.In ECM,the machining parameter selection and tool design are based on the electrochemical dissolution behavior of the materials.In this study,the electrochemical dissolution behaviors of theβ-CEZ and Ti-6Al-4V(TC4)alloys in NaNO3solution are discussed.The open circuit potential(OCP),Tafel polarization,potentiodynamic polarization,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS),and current efficiency curves of theβ-CEZ and TC4 alloys are analyzed.The results show that,compared to the TC4 alloy,the passivation film structure is denser and the charge transfer resistance in the dissolution process is greater for theβ-CEZ alloy.Moreover,the dissolved surface morphology of the two titanium-based alloys under different current densities are analyzed.Under low current densities,theβ-CEZ alloy surface comprises dissolution pits and dissolved products,while the TC4 alloy surface comprises a porous honeycomb structure.Under high current densities,the surface waviness of both the alloys improves and the TC4 alloy surface is flatter and smoother than theβ-CEZ alloy surface.Finally,the electrochemical dissolution models ofβ-CEZ and TC4 alloys are proposed.

Ballistic performances of the hourglass lattice sandwich structures under high-velocity fragments

In this paper,the numerical simulation method is used to study the ballistic performances of hourglass lattice sandwich structures with the same mass under the vertical incidence of fragments.Attention is paid to elucidating the influences of rod cross-section dimensions,structure height,structure layer,and rod inclination angle on the deformation mode,ballistic performances,and ability to change the ballistic direction of fragments.The results show that the ballistic performances of hourglass lattice sandwich structures are mainly affected by their structural parameters.In this respect,structural parameters optimization of the hourglass lattice sandwich structures enable one to effectively improve their ballistic limit velocity and,consequently,ballistic performances.

In flowering plants,the two sperm cells are passive cargo transported into the ovule by pollen tubes (Zhang et al.,2017).Therefore,the precise guidance of pollen tubes is critical for successful double fertilization (Dresselhaus and Franklin-Tong,2013).A series of male-female interactions are required to guarantee the spatiotemporal regulation of pollen tube guidance because during growth,pollen tubes continuously interact with different female tissues (Zhong et al.,2017;Zhong and qu,2019).In the past two decades,there has been tremendous progress in elucidating the molecular mechanisms of pollen tube guidance regulation,mostly using Arabidopsis thaliana as a model system (Johnson et al.,2019).

Epigenetic regulation is a pivotal mechanism that controls gene transcription and cell fate.During the past decades,it has been observed that histone,DNA,and RNA modifications participate in determining the fate of neural stem cells(NSCs).These modifications include histone acetylation and methylation,as well as DNA and RNA methylation.Of note,non-coding RNAs also participate in neural differentiation.[1]In addition to acetylation,many other types of acylations to histone lysines,including crotonylation,propionylation,succinylation,and malonylation,have been identified.[2]The roles of these histone acylations in neuroscience remain elusive.

Myopia is the leading cause of visual impairment worldwide.The lack of a“rapid predictive index”for myopia development and progression hinders the clinic management and prevention of myopia.This article reviews the studies describing changes that occur in the choroid during myopia development and proposes that it is possible to detect myopia development at an earlier stage than is currently possible in a clinical setting using choroidal blood perfusion as a“rapid predictive index”of myopia.

Effect of carbon addition on microstructure and mechanical properties of a typical hard-to-deform Ni-base superalloy

In this paper, the as-cast microstructure, microsegregation, and mechanical properties of GH4151 superalloys with a carbon addition were studied by scanner electron microscopy(SEM), transmission electron microscope(TEM), electron probe microanalysis(EPMA), differential thermal analyzer(DSC), and electron backscattered diffraction(EBSD). The results show that the solid solution effect of carbon in alloys is limited, the addition of C from 0.01 to 0.08 wt% significantly refines the secondary dendrite spacing(SDAS) from 61.7 to 57.4 and 51.8 μm.Due to the influence of thermal solutal convection, the most severe segregation is found in the C-0.04 alloy, and the solidification ranges of C-0.01, C-0.04, and C-0.08 alloys are 87°C, 96°C, and 83°C, respectively. Owing to the reduced solidification pores and formed finely dispersed carbides, C-0.04 shows excellent ultimate tensile strength(442 MPa) and superior total elongation(1.368%) at 1100°C much better than that of C-0.01(130.7MPa, 0.085%) and C-0.08(248 MPa, 1.026%).
