Efficiency limits of concentrating spectral-splitting hybrid photovoltaic-thermal(PV-T)solar collectors and systems

Spectral splitting is an approach to the design of hybrid photovoltaic-thermal(PVT)collectors that promises significant performance ***,the ultimate efficiency limits,optimal PV cell materials and optical filters of spectral-splitting PVT(SSPVT)collectors remain unclear,with a lack of consensus in the *** develop an idealized model of SSPVT collectors and use this to determine their electrical and thermal efficiency limits,and to uncover how these limits can be approached through the selection of optimal PV cell materials and spectral-splitting *** that thermal losses can be minimized,the efficiency limit,optimal PV material and optimal filter all depend strongly on a coefficient w,which quantifies the value of the delivered thermal energy relative to that of the generated *** total(electrical plus thermal)efficiency limit of SSPVT collectors increases at higher w and at higher optical *** optimal spectral-splitting filter is defined by sharp lower-and upper-bound energies;the former always coincides with the bandgap of the cell,whereas the latter decreases at higher *** total effective efficiency limit of SSPVT collectors is over 20%higher than those of either standalone PV modules or standalone ST collectors when w is in the range from 0.35 to 0.50 and up to 30%higher at w~*** study provides a method for identifying the efficiency limits of ideal SSPVT collectors and reports these limits,along with guidance for selecting optimal PV materials and spectral-splitting filters under different conditions and in different applications.

Primary hepatic neuroendocrine tumor with multiple liver metastases:A case report with review of the literature

Glacier changes in the eastern nyainqêntanglha Range of Tibetan Plateau from 1975 to 2013

Maritime-type glaciers in the eastern nyainqêntanglha Range, located in the southeastern part of the Tibetan Plateau, are an important water source for downstream residents and ecological systems. To better understand the variability of glaciers in this region, we used the band ratio threshold（TM3/TM5 for the Landsat TM /ETM＋ and TM4/TM6 for Landsat OLI） to extract glacier outlines in ~1999 and ~2013. After that, we also generated a series of glacier boundaries and monitored glacier variations in the past 40 years with the help of the Chinese Glacier Inventory data（1975） and Landsat TM, ETM＋ and OLI data. The total glacier area decreased by 37.69 ± 2.84% from 1975 to 2013. The annual percentage area change（APAC） was ~1.32% a-1 and ~1.29% a-1 in the periods 1975-1999 and 1999-2013, respectively. According to the lag theory, the reaction time is probably about 10 years and we discuss the variations of temperature and precipitation between 1965 and 2011. Temperature and precipitation increased between 1965 and 2011 at a rate of 0.34°C /10 a and 15.4 mm/10 a, respectively. Extensive meteorological data show that the glacier shrinkage rate over the period may be mainly due to increasing air temperature, while the increasing precipitation partly made up for the mass loss of glacier ice resulting from increasing temperature may also lead to the low APAC between 1999 and 2013. The lag theory suggests that glacier shrinkage may accelerate in the next 10 years. Small glaciers were more sensitive to climate change, and there was a normal distribution between glacier area and elevation. Glaciers shrank in all aspects, and south aspects diminished faster than others.

The internal friction and precipitate phases of the deformed Fe-P-n alloys have been investigated. It has been found that the ratio of depends on the content of P and the relation holds if the content of n is lower than *** and the content of P is lower than ***. It shows that the intercept K2 is related to the presence of the atomic pairs and clusters of P in the alloy matrix.

Catalytic Synthesis of Hexyl-naphthalene over H-type Zeolites

H-type zeolites（ HY, Hβ, and HM） were synthesized and characterized by XRD, nH3-TPD, and Py-IR. Selectively catalytic alkylation of naphthalene with n-hexanol to hexyl-naphthalene over the zeolites was carried out. The experimental results show that the catalytic activities of the zeolites are mainly determined by their acid properties and pore structures. The larger the pore diameter is, the higher the catalytic activity is. nH3-TPD profiles show that Hβ and HM have lower acid strengths than HY. HY has both the highest activity and highest selectivity for the hexylnaphthalene. Higher reaction temperatures and longer reaction time are beneficial to the production of β-hexyl-naphthalene over the HY zeolite.

Peripheral nerve injuries induce a severe motor and sensory deficit. Since the availability of autologous nerve transplants for nerve repair is very limited, alternative treatment strategies are sought, including the use of tubular nerve guidance conduits(tnGCs). However, the use of tnGCs results in poor functional recovery and central necrosis of the regenerating tissue, which limits their application to short nerve lesion defects(typically shorter than 3 cm). Given the importance of vascularization in nerve regeneration, we hypothesized that enabling the growth of blood vessels from the surrounding tissue into the regenerating nerve within the tnGC would help eliminate necrotic processes and lead to improved regeneration. In this study, we reported the application of macroscopic holes into the tubular walls of silk-based tnGCs and compared the various features of these improved silk^(+) tnGCs with the tubes without holes(silk^(–) tnGCs) and autologous nerve transplants in an 8-mm sciatic nerve defect in rats. Using a combination of micro-computed tomography and histological analyses, we were able to prove that the use of silk^(+) tnGCs induced the growth of blood vessels from the adjacent tissue to the intraluminal neovascular formation. A significantly higher number of blood vessels in the silk^(+) group was found compared with autologous nerve transplants and silk^(–), accompanied by improved axon regeneration at the distal coaptation point compared with the silk^(–) tnGCs at 7 weeks postoperatively. In the 15-mm(critical size) sciatic nerve defect model, we again observed a distinct ingrowth of blood vessels through the tubular walls of silk^(+) tnGCs, but without improved functional recovery at 12 weeks postoperatively. Our data proves that macroporous tnGCs increase the vascular supply of regenerating nerves and facilitate improved axonal regeneration in a short-defect model but not in a critical-size defect model. Solving the maximal matching problem with DnA molecules in Adleman-Lipton model

The maximal matching problem （MMP） is to find maximal edge subsets in a given undirected graph, that no pair of edges are adjacent in the subsets. It is a vitally important nP-complete problem in graph theory and applied mathematics, having numerous real life applications in optimal combination and linear programming fields. It can be difficultly solved by the electronic computer in exponential level time. Meanwhile in previous studies deoxyribonucleic acid （DnA） molecular operations usually were used to solve nP-complete continuous path search problems, e.g. HPP, traveling salesman problem, rarely for nP-hard problems with discrete vertices or edges solutions, such as the minimum vertex cover problem, graph coloring problem and so on. In this paper, we present a DnA algorithm for solving the MMP with DnA molecular operations. For an undirected graph with n vertices and m edges, we reasonably design fixed length DnA strands representing vertices and edges of the graph, take appropriate steps and get the solutions of the MMP in proper length range using O（n^3） time. we extend the application of DnA molecular operations and simultaneously simplify the complexity of the computation.
