Endoscopic repair of delayed stomach perforation caused by penetrating trauma:A case report

BACKGROUND Primary endoscopic closure of a perforated gastric wall during endoscopic procedures is mostly effective and well-tolerated;however,there are very few studies on the efficacy of endoscopic management of delayed traumatic gastric ***,we report a novel case of a patient who was successfully treated for delayed traumatic stomach perforation using an alternative endoscopic *** SUMMARY A 39-year-old woman presented with multiple penetrating traumas in the back and left abdominal *** imaging studies revealed left diaphragmatic disruption and peri-splenic hemorrhage without gastric *** emergency primary repair of the disrupted diaphragm with omental reduction and suturing of the lacerated lung was performed;however,delayed free perforation of the gastric wall was noted on computed tomography after 3 *** an emergency abdominal surgery for the primary repair of the gastric wall,re-perforation was noted 15 d *** high risk associated with re-surgery prompted an endoscopic intervention using 2 endoloops and 11 endoscopic clips using a novel modified purse-string suture *** free perforated gastric wall was successfully repaired without additional surgery or *** patient was discharged after 46 d without any *** Endoscopic closure with endoloops and clips can be a useful therapeutic alternative to re-surgery for delayed traumatic gastric perforation.

Oxygen vacancy engineering for tuning the catalytic activity of LaCoO_(3) perovskite

Herein, we attempted to engineer oxygen vacancies on the surface of LaCoO_(3) perovskite through simple post-treatments(acid or reductive thermal treatments). Acid treatment induces oxygen vacancies through the selective etching of the La cations, whereas thermal treatment in a reducing atmosphere generates oxygen vacancies by directly removing lattice oxygen. The characterization results confirm that the number of surface oxygen vacancies, which are crucial in various catalytic oxidation reactions,considerably increases in the LaCoO_(3) catalysts treated with acid or reducing gas. Acid treatment enriches the oxygen vacancies while maintaining the structure of the LaCoO_(3) catalysts, which can not be achieved through reductive thermal treatment. Therefore, the acid treatment is considered a promising technique for oxygen vacancy engineering of perovskite catalysts for tuning their catalytic activities. Furthermore,the catalytic activities of the posttreated LaCoO_(3) catalysts for CO oxidation were evaluated and are noted to be considerably better than those of the pristine LaCoO_(3) catalyst due to their abundant oxygen vacancies. Consequently, we conclude that the oxygen vacancies of perovskite catalysts can be effectively engineered via two simple methods and play a significant role in CO oxidation.

Objective: Atopic dermatitis(AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that may be linked to changes in the gut microbiome. Acupuncture has been proven to be effective in reducing AD symptoms without serious adverse events, but its underlying mechanism is not completely understood. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the potential effect of acupuncture on AD is gut ***: AD-like skin lesions were induced by applying MC903 topically to the cheek of the *** was done at the Gok-ji(LI11) acupoints. AD-like symptoms were assessed by lesion scores,scratching behavior, and histopathological changes; intestinal barrier function was measured by fecal output, serum lipopolysaccharide levels, histopathological changes, and mRNA expression of markers involved in intestinal permeability and inflammation. Gut microbiota was profiled using 16S rRNA gene sequencing from fecal ***: Acupuncture effectively improved chronic itch as well as the AD-like skin lesions with epidermal thickening, and also significantly altered gut microbiota structure as revealed by β-diversity indices and analysis of similarities. These beneficial effects were eliminated by antibiotic depletion of gut microbiota,but were reproduced in gut microbiota-depleted mice that received a fecal microbiota transplant from acupuncture-treated mice. Interestingly, AD mice had intestinal barrier dysfunction as indicated by increased intestinal permeability, atrophy of the mucosal structure(reduced villus height and crypt depth), decreased expression of tight junctions and mucus synthesis genes, and increased expression of inflammatory mediators in the ileum. The electrical properties of solder contact layers between Cu-Ni shunt metal and tube type Bi2212 superconductor that is applied in superconducting fault current limiter were *** contact properties of the solders are improved not only by Ag precoating layers,but also by the pre-sprayed Ag layer and subsequent Ag precoating *** annealed Ag sprayed layers onto Bi2212 superconductor prior to Ag electroplating work as protecting layers for the superconductor from plating *** contact angle of the electroplated Ag layer is 42.91° and decreases to 15.25° and 5.88° with Ag sprayed layer and additional Ag electroplated *** Ag sprayed layer with suitable annealing prior to Ag electroplating improves contact strength of the Ag electroplated layer by about 12% due to denser microstructure of the Ag electroplated layers.

Are age, anthropometry and components of metabolic syndrome-risk factors interrelated with lower urinary tract symptoms in patients with erectile dysfunction？ A prospective study

Aim： To evaluate the effects of metabolic profiles on lower urinary tract symptoms （LUTS） in men with erectile dysfunction （ED）. Methods： A total of 75 impotent men aged 25-75 years old （mean 58.1 years） were included in the study on a prospective basis. Patients were evaluated with a complete history, physical examination, anthropometry and metabolic profiles. LUTS were assessed using the International Prostate Symptom Score （IPSS）. Results： Overall, there was no correlation between the IPSS and continuous parameters. However, when continuous variables were categorized, some parameters were significantly associated with LUTS. Patients with triglyceride level of 150 mg/dL or higher had more severe symptoms than those with tiglyceride levels less than 150 mg/dL （19.4±2.4 vs. 14.3±1.1, P = 0.033）. When 40 mg/dL was chosen as the high-density lipoprotein （HDL）-cholesterol cut-off level, the IPSS was significantly different between the two groups divided by 40 mg/dL （19.4±2.6 for HDL-cholesterol 〈 40 mg/dL vs. 14.4±1.0 for HDL-cholesterol 2 40 mg/dL, P = 0.042）. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve （AUROCC） of triglyceride was 65.7% （95% confidence interval [CI], 52.6%-82.3%; P = 0.034） for severe LUTS. However, the AUROCC for ＇HDL-cholesterol＇ was not significant （area, 65.4%; 95% CI, 48.2%-82.7%; P = 0.062）. No other factors were determined to be significant in this regard. Conclusion： The results of the present study indicate that some metabolic profiles might influence LUTS in men with ED.

Relationship between intraocular pressure and parameters of obesity in ocular hypertension

AIM:To evaluate the correlation between intraocular pressure(IOP)and various obesity-related health factors in patients with ocular hypertension in ***:A total of 40850 subjects underwent age,sex,body weight,and height assessments and automated multiphasic tests,including non-contact tonometry,automated perimetry,fundus photography,systolic/diastolic blood pressure measurement,and evaluation of obesity-related health parameters such as obesity index,body mass index(BMI),a body shape index(ABSI),and waist-to-height ratio(WtHR).Subjects were divided into ocular hypertension group and normal IOP group according to IOP after matching of age and ***:Of 40850 participants,1515(3.7%)had ocular hypertension,and 1515 with normal IOP were selected as controls using propensity score *** mean IOP of control group was 15.3±2.3 mm Hg,compared with 23.3±1.6 mm Hg in ocular hypertension ***,obesity index,BMI,and WtHR in the ocular hypertension group were significantly higher than in the normal IOP group(P<0.001,P<0.001,P=0.009,P=0.002).IOP of ocular hypertension was positively correlated with obesity index(P=0.027)and BMI(P=0.016),whereas IOP of control was positively correlated with blood pressure(P<0.001,P=0.002),obesity index(P<0.001),BMI(P<0.001),and WHtR(P=0.002).Systolic blood pressure(β=0.022,P<0.001)and body weight(β=0.016,P=0.02)were precursors of IOP in normal subjects,but sex(male;β=-0.231,P=0.008)and obesity index(β=-0.007,P=0.017)were precursors of ocular hypertension according to multiple regression ***:Among various obesity-related health parameters,obesity index is the best indicator for further increase in IOP in ocular hypertension group.

Advanced heterolytic H_(2) adsorption of K-added Ru/MgO catalysts for accelerating hydrogen storage into aromatic benzyltoluenes

Herein,we report a highly active K-added Ru/MgO catalyst for hydrogen storage into aromatic benzyltoluenes at low temperatures to advance liquid organic hydrogen carrier *** hydrogenation activity of Ru/K/MgO catalysts exhibits a volcano-shaped dependence on the K content at the maximum with 0.02 wt%.This is in good agreement with the strength and capacity of H_(2) adsorption derived from basicity,despite a gradual decrease in the textural property and the corresponding increase in the Ru particle size with increasing the K *** functional theory calculations show that heterolytic hydrogen adsorption properties(strength and polarization)are facilitated up to a specific density of K on the Ru–MgO interface and excessive K suppresses heterolytic H_(2) adsorption by direct interaction between K and hydrogen,assuring the hydrogenation activity and H_(2) adsorption capability of Ru/K/MgO ***,the Ru/K/MgO catalyst,when K is added in an optimal amount,is highly effective to accelerate hydrogen storage kinetics at low temperatures owing to the enhanced heterolytic H_(2) adsorption.

Bruch's membrane opening-minimum rim width and visual field loss in glaucoma:a broken stick analysis

Twisted bilayer graphene(tBLG)has received substantial attention in various research fields due to its unconventional physical properties originating from Moire *** electronic band structure in tBLG modified by interlayer interactions enables the emergence of low-energy van Hove singularities in the density of states,allowing the observation of intriguing features such as increased optical conductivity and photocurrent at visible or near-infrared ***,we show that the third-order optical nonlinearity can be considerably modified depending on the stacking angle in *** third-harmonic generation(THG)efficiency is found to significantly increase when the energy gap at the van Hove singularity matches the three-photon resonance of incident *** study on electrically tuneable optical nonlinearity reveals that the gate-controlled THG enhancement varies with the twist angle in tBLG,resulting in a THG enhanced up to 60 times compared to neutral monolayer *** results prove that the twist angle opens up a new way to control and increase the optical *** tBLG,,suggesting rotation-induced tuneable nonlinear optics in stacked two-dimensional material systems.
