Bosworth ankle fracture-dislocation is rare, known to be an irreducible type of ankle injury, with a high incidence of complication. We present two cases of even rarer variants of Bosworth ankle fracturedislocation. The first case is a type of supination external rotation adduction, and the second case is a type of supination external rotati on adduction. These types have not bee n described before .In both of the cases we failed to achieve close reduction, and therefore proceeded with emergency surgeries, with open reduction and internal fixation. Both of the cases were performed with a postero-lateral approach to reduce the dislocations, and fix the fractures successfully. Unfortunately in one of the cases, acute compartment syndrome developed post-surgically. However, both cases showed good functional outcomes.

Purpose: Un displaced subtle ligamentous Lisfranc injuries are easy to miss or underestimate, and many cases are treated without surgical fixation. It has not yet widely known whether conservative treatment for undisplaced subtle ligamentous Lisfranc injuries may lead to a poor outcome. The purpose of this study is to compare the outcomes of conservative versus surgical management (percutaneous position screw) of undisplaced subtle ligamentous Lisfranc injury. Methods: We analysed 61 cases in this retrospective study, including 38 males and 23 females. Forty-one patients were managed conservatively, while 20 patients received surgical treatment involving minimal invasive percutaneous pos让ion screw. American orthopaedic foot &ankle society (AOFAS), foot function index (FFI, including FFI disability, FFl pain score and activity limitation scale) scores, Maryland foot score and short form-36 (SF-36) were recorded and compared after a follow-up of 10-16 months (average 12.3). Results: Patients in the surgical management group had higher scores in all evaluation methods (p luding secondary diastasis (34.1% vs. 5.0%), joint stiffness after 3 months (82.9% vs. 0%), and secondary arthrodesis (12.2% vs. 0%). The highest rate of complication in surgical management group was temporary forefoot pain (55.0%). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the outcomes of the surgical management with percutaneous position screw fixation are better than the conservative management to treat undisplaced subtle ligamentous Lisfranc injuries. This study can serve as a resource for orthopaedic surgeons in recog nizing and man aging such injuries.

Accurately recognizing facial expressions is essential for effective social interactions.Non-human primates(NHPs)are widely used in the study of the neural mechanisms underpinning facial expression processing,yet it remains unclear how well monkeys can recognize the facial expressions of other species such as humans.In this study,we systematically investigated how monkeys process the facial expressions of conspecifics and humans using eye-tracking technology and sophisticated behavioral tasks,namely the temporal discrimination task(TDT)and face scan task(FST).We found that monkeys showed prolonged subjective time perception in response to Negative facial expressions in monkeys while showing longer reaction time to Negative facial expressions in humans.Monkey faces also reliably induced divergent pupil contraction in response to different expressions,while human faces and scrambled monkey faces did not.Furthermore,viewing patterns in the FST indicated that monkeys only showed bias toward emotional expressions upon observing monkey faces.Finally,masking the eye region marginally decreased the viewing duration for monkey faces but not for human faces.By probing facial expression processing in monkeys,our study demonstrates that monkeys are more sensitive to the facial expressions of conspecifics than those of humans,thus shedding new light on inter-species communication through facial expressions between NHPs and humans.

Biological complexity and the need for personalized medicine means that biomarker development has become increasingly challenging.Thus,new paradigms for research need to be created that bring together a different classifier of individuals.One potential solution is collaboration between biomarker development and Chinese medicine pattern classification.In this article,two examples of rheumatoid arthritis are discussed,including a new biomarker candidate casein kinase 2 interacting protein 1(CKIP-1)and a micro RNA 214.The authors obtained a"snapshot"of pattern classification with disease in biomarker identification.Bioinformatics analyses revealed underlying biological functions of two biomarker candidates,in varying degrees,are correlated with Chinese medicine pattern of rheumatoid arthritis.The authors'initial attempt can provide a new window for studying the win-win potential correlation between the biomarkers and pattern classification in Chinese medicine.

Large time delay is one of the inherent features of a modular multilevel converter(MMC)-based high voltage direct current(HVDC)system and is the main factor leading to the unfavorable’negative resistance and inductance’characteristic of MMC impedance.Research indicates that this characteristic interacting with the capacitive characteristics of an AC system is the cause of high frequency resonance(HFR)in the Yu-E HVDC project.As the current controller is one of the main factors that affects the MMC impedance,a compensation control to imitate the paralleled impedance at the point of common coupling(PCC)is proposed.Therefore,the structure and parameter design of the compensation controller are core to realizing HFR suppression.There are two potentially risky frequency ranges of HFRs(around 700 Hz and 1.8 kHz)in the studied AC system within 2.0 kHz.The core concept of HFR suppression is to make the phase angle of MMC impedance smaller than 90◦in the two risky frequency ranges according to impedance stability theory.Hence,the design parameters aim to coordinate the phase angle of MMC impedance in the two risky frequency ranges.In this paper,three types of compensation controller are studied to suppress HFRs,namely,first-order low pass filter(LPF),second-order LPF,and third-order band pass filter.The results of parameter design show that the first-order LPF cannot suppress both HFRs simultaneously.The second-order LPF can suppress both HFRs,however,it introduces a DC component into the current control loop.Therefore,a high pass filter is added to form the recommended third-order controller.All parameter ranges of the compensation controller are derived using analytical expressions.Finally,the correctness of the parameter design is proofed using time-domain simulations.

Effect of Xuefu Zhuyu Capsule (血府逐瘀胶囊) on Angiogenesis in Hindlimb Ischemic Rats

Objective:To investigate the effect and mechanism of Xuefu Zhuyu Capsule(血府逐瘀胶囊,XZC)on pro-angiogenesis in the hindlimb ischemic model rats.Methods:A total of 100 Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into a model group,a regular-dose XZC group(0.48 g·kg^-1·d^-1)and a high-dose XZC group(0.96 g·kg^-1·d^-1)using random number table method.The model of hindlimb ischemic rats were made through femoral artery embolization with Bletilla microsphere age nt.XZC were give n on the first day after embolization surgery and lasted 5 days.Finally 72 models were obtained with 12 in each group for each time point.The lower Ischemic limb was amputated on the third day after embolization surgery.Histopathological characters and the number of blood vessels of granulation tissues were observed at 36 and 48 h after amputation,respectively.The main genes were obtained from microarray analysis and were validated using real-time quarttitative polymerase chain reaction.Results:The vascular number of granulation tissues at both 36 and 48 h were characterized by new and fresh vessels.The number of angiogenesis in the high-dose XZC group at 36 and 48 h was greater compared with that in the regular-dose XZC and model groups(Pluding an giogenesis,regulati on of an gioge nesis,positive regulati on of an giogenesis,and positive regulation of vascular end othelial growth factor receptor sign aling pathway(Pluding 11 pathways related to an giogenesis.Conclusion:XZC promoted angiogenesis moderately and the mechanism invoIved multiple DEGs and multiple pathways.

Value of Adjuvant Radiotherapy for Thymoma with Myasthenia Gravis after Extended Thymectomy

Background：The co-existence of myasthenia gravis （MG） and thymoma makes the surgical treatment more complicated and adjuvant radiation more controversial. The aim of this study was to investigate adjuvant radiotherapy for thymoma with MG after extended thymectomy.Methods：A total of 181 patients with both MG and thymoma were recruited between 2003 and 2014 at Tongren Hospital, China. Among all the patients, 157 patients received radiation therapy after surgery （Group A）; whereas the other 24 patients did not receive radiation therapy （Group B）. According to the time that patients started mediastinal radiation therapy, we subdivided the 157 patients in Group A into subgroups （1-month subgroup, n = 98; 2-month subgroup, n = 7; and 3-month subgroup, n = 52）. We then compared the effect of the mediastinal radiation therapy across these different groups using the survival rate, the rate of postoperative myasthenic crisis, and the complete stable remission （CSR） rate as the primary endpoints.Results：There was a significant difference in the occurrence of postoperative myasthenic crisis between 1-month subgroup and Group B （χ2 = 4.631, P = 0.031）. The rates of reaching CSR were 32.6% in 1-month subgroup, 25% in 3-month subgroup, and 22.7% in Group B, respectively. The overall survival rates of 1-month subgroup, 3-month subgroup, and Group B were 88.8%, 83.3%, and 77.3%, respectively. Analysis on the Kaplan-Meier survival curves demonstrated that within 8 years after surgery, there was no significant difference in aspects of overall survival and disease-free survival between 1-month subgroup and Group B, and between 3-month subgroup and Group B; over 8 years after surgery, the disease-free survival rates in 1-month subgroup, 3-month subgroup and Group B were 79.4%, 70.6%, and 55.3%, respectively.Conclusions：Adjuvant radiation within 1 month after extended thymectomy may be helpful in controlling postoperative MG, such as decreasing the possibility of postoperative myasthenic crisis, and raising cumulative probabilities of

Two new ratiometric hypoxia probes(Ir-C343 and Ir-GFP)are synthesized by covalently incorporating florescent internal standard molecules coumarin 343(C343)and green fluorescent protein(GFP)into bis[1-(9,9-dimethyl-9H-fluoren-2-yl)-isoquinoline](succinylacetone)Ir(Ⅲ)(Ir-fliq),respectively.After connecting with internal standard molecules,the Ir-fliq moiety still exhibits high sensitivity to oxygen concentration,while the fluorescence intensity of the internal standard remains relatively constant under different oxygen concentrations.As a result,a ratiometric response is realized that is only related to oxygen concentration.In addition,Ir-GFP shows more promising applications in the ratiometric hypoxia imaging of cells due to its long excitation wavelength,good water solubility,high biocompatibility,and low relative fluorescence intensity compared with the phosphorescent emitter Ir-fliq.

Common-image gathers are extensively used in amplitude versus angle(AVA)and migration velocity analysis(MVA).The current state of methods for anisotropic angle gathers extraction use slant-stack,local Fourier transform or low-rank approximation,which requires much computation.Based on an anisotropic-Helmholtz P/S wave-mode decomposition method,we propose a novel and efficient approach to produce angle-domain common-image gathers(ADCIGs)in the elastic reverse time migration(ERTM)of VTI media.To start with,we derive an anisotropic-Helmholtz decomposition operator from the Christoffel equation in VTI media,and use this operator to derive the decomposed formulations for anisotropic P/S waves.Second,we employ the first-order Taylor expansion to calculate the normalized term of decomposed formulations and obtain the anisotropic-Helmholtz decomposition method,which generates the separated P/S wavefields with correct amplitudes and phases.Third,we develop a novel way that uses the anisotropic-Helmholtz decomposition operator to define the polari-zation angles for anisotropic P/S waves and substitute these angles to decomposing formulations.The polarization angles are then calculated directly from the separated vector P-and S-wavefields and converted to the phase angles.The ADCIGs are thusly produced by applying the phase angles to VTI ERTM.In addition,we develop a concise approximate expression of residual moveout(RMO)for PP-reflections of flat reflectors in VTI media,which avoids the complex transformations between the group angles and the phase angles.The approximate RMO curves show a good agreement with the exact solution and can be used as a tool to assess the migration velocity errors.As demonstrated by two selected examples,our ADCIGs not only produce the correct kinematic responses with regards to different velocity pertubatation,but also generate the reliable amplitude responses versus different angle.The final stacking images of ADCIGs data exhibit the identical imaging effect as that of VTI ERTM.

We propose a surface-plasmonic right-angle bend waveguide with bismuth ion-doped glass film as core layer and Ag films as cladding layers for first time, to the best of our knowledge. Theoretical analysis shows that the right-angle has bend and absorption losses of 3.17 d B. The rate equations and power evolution equations of high concentration bismuth-doped glass film are setup and solved to analyze the effect of the waveguide length and active ion concentration on the signal gain and Noise Figure（NF）. The theoretical results predict that with the pump power 100 m W, the active ion concentration 2.0×10;ions/m;and the right-angle waveguide size 1.0 cm×1.0 cm, small-signal unit-length net gain can reach 15.32 d B with NF less than 5.0 d B.
