Phrenic and intercostal nerves with rhythmic discharge can promote early nerve regeneration after brachial plexus repair in rats

Exogenous discharge can positively promote nerve repair. We, therefore, hypothesized that endogenous discharges may have similar effects. The phrenic nerve and intercostal nerve, controlled by the respiratory center, can emit regular nerve impulses; therefore these endogenous automatically discharging nerves might promote nerve regeneration. Action potential discharge patterns were examined in the diaphragm, external intercostal and latissimus dorsi muscles of rats. The phrenic and intercostal nerves showed rhythmic clusters of discharge, which were consistent with breathing frequency. From the first to the third intercostal nerves, spontaneous discharge amplitude was gradually increased. There was no obvious rhythmic discharge in the thoracodorsal nerve. Four animal groups were performed in rats as the musculocutaneous nerve cut and repaired was bland control. The other three groups were followed by a side-to-side anastomosis with the phrenic nerve, intercostal nerve and thoracodorsal nerve. Compound muscle action potentials in the biceps muscle innervated by the musculocutaneous nerve were recorded with electrodes. The tetanic forces of ipsilateral and contralateral biceps muscles were detected by a force displacement transducer. Wet muscle weight recovery rate was measured and pathological changes were observed using hematoxylin-eosin staining. The number of nerve fibers was observed using toluidine blue staining and changes in nerve ultrastructure were observed using transmission electron microscopy. The compound muscle action potential amplitude was significantly higher at 1 month after surgery in phrenic and intercostal nerve groups compared with the thoracodorsal nerve and blank control groups. The recovery rate of tetanic tension and wet weight of the right biceps were significantly lower at 2 months after surgery in the phrenic nerve, intercostal nerve, and thoracodorsal nerve groups compared with the negative control group. Endogenous automatic nerve discharge promotes nerve repair: an optimized animal model

Exogenous electrical nerve stimulation has been reported to promote nerve regeneration. Our previous study has suggested that endogenous automatic nerve discharge of the phrenic nerve and intercostal nerve has a positive effect on nerve regeneration at 1 month postoperatively, but a negative effect at 2 months postoperatively, which may be caused by scar compression. In this study, we designed four different rat models to avoid the negative effect from scar compression. The control group received musculocutaneous nerve cut and repair. The other three groups were subjected to side-to-side transfer of either the phrenic(phrenic nerve group), intercostal(intercostal nerve group) or thoracodorsal nerves(thoracic dorsal nerve group), with sural nerve autograft distal to the anastomosis site. Musculocutaneous nerve regeneration was assessed by electrophysiology of the musculocutaneous nerve, muscle tension, muscle wet weight, maximum cross-sectional area of biceps, and myelinated fiber numbers of the proximal and distal ends of the anastomosis site of the musculocutaneous nerve and the middle of the nerve graft. At 1 month postoperatively, compound muscle action potential amplitude of the biceps in the phrenic nerve group and the intercostal nerve group was statistically higher than that in the control group. The myelinated nerve fiber numbers in the distal end of the musculocutaneous nerve and nerve graft anastomosis in the phrenic nerve and the intercostal nerve groups were statistically higher than those in the control and thoracic dorsal nerve groups. The neural degeneration rate in the middle of the nerve graft in the thoracic dorsal nerve group was statistically higher than that in the phrenic nerve and the intercostal nerve groups. At 2 and 3 months postoperatively, no significant difference was detected between the groups in all the assessments. These findings confirm that the phrenic nerve and intercostal nerve have a positive effect on nerve regeneration at the early stage of recovery. This study established

Background： The clinical significance of acute vasoreactivity testing （AVT） in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension （CTEPH） remains unclear. We analyzed changes in hemodynamics and oxygenation dynamics indices after AVT in patients with CTEPH using patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension （PAH） as controls. Methods： We analyzed retrospectively the results of AVT in 80 patients with PAH and 175 patients with CTEPH registered in the research database of Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital between October 2005 and August 2014. Demographic variables, cardiopulmonary indicators, and laboratory findings were compared in these two subgroups. A long-term follow-up was conducted in patients with CTEPH. Between-group comparisons were performed using the independent-sample t-test or the rank sum test, within-group comparisons were conducted using the paired t-test or the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and count data were analyzed using the Chi-squared test. Survival was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test. Results： The rates of positive response to AVT were similar in the CTEPH （25/175, 14.3%） and PAH （9/80, 11.3%） groups （P 〉 0.05）. Factors significantly associated a positive response to AVT in the CTEPH group were level of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide （〈1131.000 ng/L）, mean pulmonary arterial pressure （mPAE ≤44.500 mmHg）, pulmonary vascular resistance （PVR, 〈846.500 dyn＇s-1·m-5）, cardiac output （CO,≥3.475 L/rain）, and mixed venous oxygen partial pressure （PvO2, ≥35.150 mmHg）. Inhalation of iloprost resulted in similar changes in mean blood pressure, mPAE PVR, systemic vascular resistance, CO, arterial oxygen saturation （SaO2）, mixed venous oxygen saturation, partial pressure of oxygen in arterial blood （PaO2）, PvO2, and intrapulmonary shunt （Qs/Qt） in the PAH and CTEPH groups （all P 〉 0.05）. Machine learning model based on non-convex penalized huberized-SVM

The support vector machine(SVM)is a classical machine learning method.Both the hinge loss and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator(LASSO)penalty are usually used in traditional SVMs.However,the hinge loss is not differentiable,and the LASSO penalty does not have the Oracle property.In this paper,the huberized loss is combined with non-convex penalties to obtain a model that has the advantages of both the computational simplicity and the Oracle property,contributing to higher accuracy than traditional SVMs.It is experimentally demonstrated that the two non-convex huberized-SVM methods,smoothly clipped absolute deviation huberized-SVM(SCAD-HSVM)and minimax concave penalty huberized-SVM(MCP-HSVM),outperform the traditional SVM method in terms of the prediction accuracy and classifier performance.They are also superior in terms of variable selection,especially when there is a high linear correlation between the variables.When they are applied to the prediction of listed companies,the variables that can affect and predict financial distress are accurately filtered out.Among all the indicators,the indicators per share have the greatest influence while those of solvency have the weakest influence.listed companies can assess the financial situation with the indicators screened by our algorithm and make an early warning of their possible financial distress in advance with higher precision.

Threshold Selection and Resource Allocation for Quantized Identification

This paper is concerned with the optimal threshold selection and resource allocation problems of quantized identification, whose aims are improving identification efficiency under limited resources. Firstly, the first-order asymptotically optimal quantized identification theory is extended to the weak persistent excitation condition. Secondly, the characteristics of time and space complexities are established based on the Cramér-Rao lower bound of quantized systems. On these basis, the optimal selection methods of fixed thresholds and adaptive thresholds are established under aperiodic signals, which answer how to achieve the best efficiency of quantized identification under the same time and space complexity. In addition, based on the principle of maximizing the identification efficiency under a given resource, the optimal resource allocation methods of quantized identification are given for the cases of fixed thresholds and adaptive thresholds, respectively, which show how to balance time and space complexity to realize the best identification efficiency of quantized identification.

CoS Nanosheets Coated with Dopamine-Derived Carbon Standing on Carbon Fiber Cloth as Binder-Free Anode for li-ion Batteries

Cobalt sulphides attract much attention as anode materials for li-ion batteries(liBs).However,its poor conductivity,low initial column efficiency and large volume changes during cycling have hindered its further development.Herein,novel interlaced CoS nanosheets were firstly prepared on Carbon Fiber Cloth(CFC)by two hydrothermal reactions followed with carbon coating via carbonizing dopamine(CoS NS@C/CFC).As a freestanding anode,the nanosheet structure of CoS not only accommodates the volume variation,but also provides a large interface area to proceed the charge transfer reaction.In addition,CFC works as both a three-dimensional skeleton and an active substance which can further improve the areal capacity of the resulting electrode.Furthermore,the coated carbon combined with the CFC work as a 3D conductive network to facilitate the electron conduction.The obtained CoS NS@C/CFC,and the contrast sample prepared with the same procedure but without carbon coating(CoS NS/CFC),are characterized with XRD,SEM,TEM,XPS and electrochemical measurements.The results show that the CoS NS@C/CFC possesses much improved electrochemical performance due to the synergistic effect of nanosheet CoS,the coated carbon and the CFC substrate,exhibiting high initial columbic efficiency(~87%),high areal capacity(2.5 at 0.15 mA cm−2),excellent rate performance(1.6 at 2.73 mA cm−2)and improved cycle stability(87.5%capacity retention after 300 cycles).This work may provide a new route to explore freestanding anodes with high areal specific capacity for liBs.

Optimal dispatching strategy for residential demand response considering load participation

To facilitate the coordinated and large-scale participation of residential flexible loads in demand response(DR),a load aggregator(LA)can integrate these loads for scheduling.In this study,a residential DR optimization scheduling strategy was formulated considering the participation of flexible loads in DR.First,based on the operational characteristics of flexible loads such as electric vehicles,air conditioners,and dishwashers,their DR participation,the base to calculate the compensation price to users,was determined by considering these loads as virtual energy storage.It was quantified based on the state of virtual energy storage during each time slot.Second,flexible loads were clustered using the K-means algorithm,considering the typical operational and behavioral characteristics as the cluster centroid.Finally,the LA scheduling strategy was implemented by introducing a DR mechanism based on the directrix load.The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed DR approach can effectively reduce peak loads and fill valleys,thereby improving the load management performance.

Iron–doped bismuth oxybromides as visible-light-responsive Fenton catalysts for the degradation of atrazine in aqueous phases

Pesticides and its degradation products,being well–known residues in soil,have recently been detected in many water bodies as pollutants of emerging concerns,and thus there is a contemporary demand to develop viable and cost–effective techniques for the removal of related organic pollutants in aqueous phases.Herein,a visible-light-responsive Fenton system was constructed with iron–doped bismuth oxybromides(Fe–BiOBr)as the catalysts.Taking the advantage of sustainable Fe(Ⅲ)/Fe(Ⅱ)conversion and optimized H_(2)O_(2)utilization,the optimal Fe–BiOBr–2 catalyst showed an excellent atrazine removal efficiency of 97.61%in 120 min,which is superior than the traditional homogeneous Fenton and the majority of heterogeneous processes documented in the literature.In this photo–Fenton system,hydroxyl(·OH)and superoxide(·O_(2)^(-))radicals were dominant active species contributed to the oxidative degradation of atrazine.Due to the production of various active radicals,five degradation pathways were proposed based on the identification of intermediates and degradation products.Overall,this work not only demonstrates a fundamental insight into creating highly efficient and atom economic photo-Fenton systems,but also provides a complementary strategy for the treatment of organic pollutants in water.

Skin wounds are characterized by injury to the skin due to trauma,tearing,cuts,or contusions.As such injuries are common to all human groups,they may at times represent a serious socioeconomic burden.Currently,increasing numbers of studies have focused on the role of mesenchymal stem cell(MSC)-derived extracellular vesicles(EVs)in skin wound repair.As a cell-free therapy,MSC-derived EVs have shown significant application potential in the field of wound repair as a more stable and safer option than conventional cell therapy.Treatment based on MSC-derived EVs can significantly promote the repair of damaged substructures,including the regeneration of vessels,nerves,and hair follicles.In addition,MSC-derived EVs can inhibit scar formation by affecting angiogenesis-related and antifibrotic pathways in promoting macrophage polarization,wound angiogenesis,cell proliferation,and cell migration,and by inhibiting excessive extracellular matrix production.Additionally,these structures can serve as a scaffold for components used in wound repair,and they can be developed into bioengineered EVs to support trauma repair.Through the formulation of standardized culture,isolation,purification,and drug delivery strategies,exploration of the detailed mechanism of EVs will allow them to be used as clinical treatments for wound repair.In conclusion,MSCderived EV-based therapies have important application prospects in wound repair.Here we provide a comprehensive overview of their current status,application potential,and associated drawbacks.

Current lithium-ion batteries(liBs)rely on organic liquid electrolytes that pose significant risks due to their flammability and toxicity.The potential for environmental pollution and explosions resulting from battery damage or fracture is a critical concern.Water-based(aqueous)electrolytes have been receiving attention as an alternative to organic electrolytes.However,a narrow electrochemicalstability window,water decomposition,and the consequent low battery operating voltage and energy density hinder the practical use of aqueous electrolytes.Therefore,developing novel aqueous electrolytes for sustainable,safe,high-performance liBs remains challenging.This Review first commences by summarizing the roles and requirements of electrolytes–separators and then delineates the progression of aqueous electrolytes for liBs,encompassing aqueous liquid and gel electrolyte development trends along with detailed principles of the electrolytes.These aqueous electrolytes are progressed based on strategies using superconcentrated salts,concentrated diluents,polymer additives,polymer networks,and artificial passivation layers,which are used for suppressing water decomposition and widening the electrochemical stability window of water of the electrolytes.In addition,this Review discusses potential strategies for the implementation of aqueous li-metal batteries with improved electrolyte–electrode interfaces.A comprehensive understanding of each strategy in the aqueous system will assist in the design of an aqueous electrolyte and the development of sustainable and safe high-performance batteries.
