A paper published several years ago suggested that tenofovir disoproxil fumarate(TDF)was superior to entecavir(ETV)for reducing the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Since then,many observational studies have been conducted comparing TDF and *** studies in Asia demonstrated similar HCC risks between ETV and TDF ***,recent studies involving Caucasian and European did not observe any differences in HCC risk between these *** this article,we briefly review studies that compared the incidence rates of HCC between ETV and TDF and discuss potential reasons for the discrepant results.

This study on the development of a psychotherapy program based on the relationship between forests and human health focused on actively considering the natural ecological environment. This study categorized and compared an art psychotherapy program that simply moved to an outdoor space and a forest-art therapy program that actively utilized the forest environment as a medium. The characteristics of the natural environment, such as openness, change, and diversity, shortened the amount of time participants took to develop a rapport and open up and played a vital role in recovering mental health. After a bold attempt at integrating forest environment and art psychotherapy by going beyond outdoor art therapy, there were significant results pertaining to improvements in mental disorders in today’s society, including stress vulnerabilities, depression, anxiety, and aggression. The research results verified that the developed forest-art therapy method had greater efficacy in relation to both the Stress Vulnerability-Interpersonal Sensitivity Scale and the Stress Vulnerability-Self-Regulation Scale.

Ischemic preconditioning elicited by a non-fatal brief occlusion of blood flow has been applied for an experimental therapeutic strategy against a subsequent fatal ischemic insult. In this study, we investigated the neuroprotective effects of ischemic preconditioning（2-minute transient cerebral ischemia） on calbindin D28k immunoreactivity in the gerbil hippocampal CA1 area following a subsequent fatal transient ischemic insult（5-minute transient cerebral ischemia）. A large number of pyramidal neurons in the hippocampal CA1 area died 4 days after 5-minute transient cerebral ischemia. Ischemic preconditioning reduced the death of pyramidal neurons in the hippocampal CA1 area. Calbindin D28k immunoreactivity was greatly attenuated at 2 days after 5-minute transient cerebral ischemia and it was hardly detected at 5 days post-ischemia. Ischemic preconditioning maintained calbindin D28 k immunoreactivity after transient cerebral ischemia. These findings suggest that ischemic preconditioning can attenuate transient cerebral ischemia-caused damage to the pyramidal neurons in the hippocampal CA1 area through maintaining calbindin D28k immunoreactivity.

Calbindin D-28K （CB）, a Ca2＋-binding protein, maintains Ca2＋ homeostasis and protects neurons against various insults. Hyperthermia can exacerbate brain damage produced by ischemic insults. However, little is reported about the role of CB in the brain under hyperthermic condition during ischemic insults. We inves- tigated the effects of transient global cerebral ischemia on CB immunoreactivity as well as neuronal damage in the hippocampal formation under hyperthermic condition using immunohistochemistry for neuronal nuclei （NeuN） and CB, and Fluoro-Jade B histofluorescence staining in gerbils. Hyperthermia （39.5 ＋ 0.2~C） was induced for 30 minutes before and during transient ischemia. Hyperthermic ischemia resulted in neu- ronal damage/death in the pyramidal layer of CA1-3 area and in the polymorphic layer of the dentate gyrus at 1, 2, 5 days after ischemia. In addition, hyperthermic ischemia significantly decreaced CB immunoreac- tivity in damaged or dying neurons at 1, 2, 5 days after ischemia. In brief, hyperthermic condition produced more extensive and severer neuronal damage/death, and reduced CB immunoreactivity in the hippocampus following transient global cerebral ischemia. Present findings indicate that the degree of reduced CB immu- noreactivity might be related with various neuronal damage/death overtime and corresponding areas after ischemic insults.

Objective： To investigate the effects of the flower buds extract of Tussilago farfara Linné（Farfarae Flos; FF） on focal cerebral ischemia through regulation of inflammatory responses in activated microglia. Methods： Brain ischemia was induced in Sprague-Dawley rats by a transient middle cerebral artery occlusion（t MCAO） for 90 min and reperfusion for 24 h. Twenty rats were randomly divided into 4 groups（n=5 per group）： normal, t MCAO-induced ischemic control, t MCAO plus FF extract 300 mg/kg-treated, and t MCAO plus MK-801 1 mg/kg-treated as reference drug. FF extract（300 mg/kg, p.o.） or MK-801（1 mg/kg, i.p.） was administered after reperfusion. Brain infarction was measured by 2,3,5,-triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining. Neuronal damage was observed by haematoxylin eosin, Nissl staining and immunohistochemistry using anti-neuronal nuclei（Neu N）, anti-glial fibril ary acidic protein（GFAP）, and antiCD11 b/c（OX42） antibodies in ischemic brain. The expressions of inducible nitric oxide synthase（i NOS）, tumor necrosis factor（TNF-α）, and hypoxia-inducible factor-1 a（HIF-1α） were determined by Western blot. BV2 microglial cel s were treated with FF extract or its main bioactive compound, tussilagone with or without lipopolysaccharide（LPS）. Nitric oxide（NO） production was measured in culture medium by Griess assay. The expressions of i NOS, COX-2 and pro-inflammatory cytokines mRNA were analyzed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. The expression of i NOS, and COX-2 proteins, the phosphorylation of ERK1/2, JNK, and p38 MAPK and the nuclear expression of NF-κB p65 in BV2 cells were determined by Western blot. Results： FF extract significantly decreased brain infarctions in ischemic rats（P〈0.01）. The neuronal death and the microglia/astrocytes activation in ischemic brains were inhibited by FF extract. AIM:To evaluate the clinical efficacy of dietary supplement of high dose DHA omega-3 in dry eye with meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD).METHODS:Prospective randomized double-masked,placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted in mild to moderate dry eye patients with *** have no history of taking any dietary omega-3 supplements before 3 *** were divided into two groups:24 patients in the omega-3 group and 26 patients in the placebo *** omega-3 group received two capsules of Easyeye Dry?,total containing 600 mg of EPA and 1640 mg of DHA,while the placebo group received two capsules containing 3000 mg of olive *** patients take two pills once a *** examination of MGD scores,tear break-up time(TBUT),corneal staining test(NEI),strip meniscometry(SM tube),and ocular surface disease index(OSDI)scores were performed at baseline,after 4 and 8 ***:A total of 50 patients were *** were no differences in baseline characteristics between the two groups,such as age,sex,and other ocular examination *** TBUT,NEI,and OSDI scores significantly improved after 4 and 8 wk in both *** after 8 wk TBUT(6.00±1.62 s vs 5.08±1.28 s,P=0.034)and MGD score(7.2±1.8 vs 8.1±2.6,P=0.033)in the omega-3 group was more significantly improved than that of the placebo ***:Dry eye with the MGD patient,a high dose of DHA omega-3 dietary supplement can improve TBUT and MGD score after 8 wk,effective in stabilizing the tear film.

Dear Editor, Telomeres are specific protein-DNA complexes that pro- tect the ends of eukaryotic chromosomes from fusion and degradation and are maintained by a specialized mecha- nism exerted by telomerase and telomere-binding proteins. Mammalian telomeres contain TTAGGG and are associated with a six-protein （e.g. TRF1, TRF2, TIN2, RAP1, POT1, and TPP1） complex called shelterin （de Lange, 2005）, which was involved in telomere homeostasis. Similarly to mammalian telomeres, telomeres in most plants are maintained by tel- omerase and telomere-associated proteins （e.g. AtTBP1, AtTRP1, AtTRB1, POT1, POT2, KU70, and KU80） and consist of tandem arrays of TTTAGGG. Among telomere-associated proteins in Arabidopsis thaliana, AtTRB proteins belong to the SMH （Single-Myb-Histone）-Iike family, in which proteins are composed of an N-terminal Myb domain, a central his- tone Hl-like globular domain, and a C-terminal coiled-coil region.
