Higher palaeoelevation in the Baoshan Basin:Implications for landscape evolution at the southeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau

Surface uplift at the southeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau has been widely studied,but more palaeoaltimetry data are required to better understand the elevation history of this geologically complex *** this study,fossil leaves of Abies(Pinaceae),a cool-temperate element,recovered from the latest Miocene-Pliocene Yangyi Formation of the southern Baoshan Basin,were used as a proxy to estimate the local *** on the regional modern altitude range(2100-4280 m)of the genus as well as regional temperature discrepancy(1.5℃)between the past and present,the palaeoelevation of the study area was calculated to be>2360 m above sea level as compared to 1670 m at *** result suggests that the southern Baoshan Basin experienced pronounced uplift prior to the time of fossil deposition,probably as a result of crustal shortening and thickening of the northern Baoshan Terrane during the *** infer that surface growth in areas south of the Dali Basin may have been greater than previously interpreted,and that a widespread plateau or plateau patches higher than 2000 m probably extended southwards into at least the Baoshan Basin by the latest *** also infer that the elevation of the southern Baoshan Basin has decreased by at least 690 m since then,in contrast to most other scenarios in which the elevation of the southeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau has increased or remained close to modern levels since the late *** major cause of the inferred altitude decline is likely tectonic *** a transtensional graben basin,the Baoshan Basin has experienced pull-apart and base-fall movement since the late Miocene,which would reduce the altitude of its southern part located on the hanging *** erosion associated with the increased summer rainfall might also have played a role especially in reducing the local relief,although its contribution can be *** study provides one of the few palaeoelevation

Dual-species biofilms of Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas promote temperature-dependent cross-contamination on meat surfaces

Temperature and contact surfaces are critical factors influencing biofilm formation of microbial communities derived from both lab and natural environments. However， there is limited understanding regarding how different temperatures impact transfer dynamics of individual microbial species between meat surfaces in dual-species biofilms. In this study， we evaluated the biofilm-forming capabilities of various meat-derived Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas strains on pork surfaces at 15 ℃ and 25 ℃. The results revealed that lower temperature had a significantly negative effect on the growth fitness of E. coli compared to Pseudomonas. Two robust biofilm-forming strains， E. coli C-13 and P. fluorescens S1-23， were selected under both temperature conditions to further explore their interactions in dual-species biofilms on meat surfaces. Outcome showed that E. coli exhibited a competitive growth advantage at 25 ℃， while Pseudomonas displayed enhanced growth at 15 ℃， indicating temperature-dependent competition patterns. Additionally， three established mathematical models were utilized to simulate the transfer dynamics of the two strains within mono- and dual-species biofilms. As anticipated， the numbers of transferred cells progressively declined with increased imprinting reactions between the meat surfaces. Interestingly， the transfer rates of both strains markedly improved in dual-species versus mono-species biofilms at 15 ℃， highlighting the influential role of inter-species interactions on transfer dynamics of microbes that may cross-contaminate meats. Our findings advance current understanding of mono- and dual-species biofilm development on meat surfaces under different temperature conditions. They also offer scientific evidence to support strategies for controlling microbial cross-contamination during meat processing to ensure product safety.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD), a common respiratory disease, can be effectively treated by traditional Chinese medicine(TCM). Qingfei Huatan, a TCM formula, has been reported to effectively alleviate the clinical symptoms of COPD patients. However, there is a lack of multi-centre,randomised, double-blind, controlled clinical trials documenting the clinical efficacy and safety of this formula in the treatment of acute exacerbation of COPD(AECOPD).Objective: This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of Qingfei Huatan formula in the treatment of AECOPD, thereby providing high-quality clinical ***, setting, participants and interventions: A total of 276 patients with AECOPD were included in this multi-centre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial and were randomised into treatment and control groups at a ratio of 1:1. Patients in the treatment and control groups took Qingfei Huatan granules or simulated Qingfei Huatan granules twice a day, for 14 days, in addition to Western medicine treatment. All patients were followed up for 3 *** outcome measures: The primary outcome was time taken to symptom stabilisation. The secondary outcomes included duration of antibiotic use, clinical symptom and sign score, TCM syndrome score, dyspnoea score, and quality of life(QOL) score. Meanwhile, the safety of the formula was assessed through routine urine and stool tests, electrocardiograms, liver and kidney function tests, and the observation of adverse events throughout the ***: The time taken for effective stabilisation(P < 0.05) and obvious stabilisation(P < 0.01), and the duration of antibiotic use(P < 0.05) were significantly shorter in the treatment group than in the control group. On days 6, 9, 12 and 14 of treatment, clinical symptom and sign score decreased in both groups,particularly in the treatment group(P < 0.01). In this editorial,we discuss the recent article by Zhao et al published in the World Journal of Diabetes,which highlights the importance of recognizing the risk indicators associated with diabetes mellitus(DM).Given the severe implications of healthcare-associated infections(HAIs)in hospitalized individuals-such as heightened mortality rates,prolonged hospitalizations,and increased costs-we focus on elucidating the connection between DM and nosocomial *** patients are susceptible to pathogenic bacterial invasion and subsequent infection,with some already harboring co-infections upon ***,DM is an important risk factor for nosocomial urinary tract infections and surgical site infections,which may indirectly affect the occurrence of nosocomial bloodstream infections,especially in patients with DM with poor glycemic *** evidence regarding the impact of DM on healthcare-associated pneumonias remains inconclusive,attention to this potential association is *** patients with DM should prioritize meticulous blood glucose management,adherence to standard operating procedures,hand hygiene practices,environmental disinfection,and rational use of drugs during *** studies are imperative to explore the main risk factors of HAIs in patients with DM,enabling the development of preventative measures and mitigating the occurrence of HAIs in these patients.

Synthesis of highly stable Ni nanoparticles via electrostatic self-assembly for enhanced hydrogen storage of MgH2

Magnesium-based hydrides have been widely recognized as an appropriate choice for solid-state hydrogen ***,its undesirable thermodynamics and sluggish hydrogenation/dehydrogenation kinetics are major bottlenecks for its ***,a highly stable and highly dispersed Ni-based catalyst （Ni/Al2O3/GN） was fabricated to promote the hydrogen storage performance of MgH2via the electrostatic effect of NiAl-LDH/GN precursor with a co-calcination reduction ***2-5wt % Ni/Al2O3/GN exhibits excellent hydrogen storage performance,releasing about 5.7 wt % hydrogen in 3500 s at 250℃,and can reach a saturation hydrogen absorption of about 6.15 wt% in 3000 s at 100℃.Furthermore,it also shows low dehydrogenation apparent activation energy of 89.1 and 118.2 kJ·***,the catalyst ensures the stability of both the physical phase and structure during ball milling and cycling *** role of each phase in Ni/Al2O3/GN on the hydrogen storage performance of MgH2was also discussed through experiments and theoretical calculation,and the synergistic catalytic mechanism of Ni/Al2O3/GN was clearly *** work provides a unique perspective for the preparation of highly stable and highly dispersible catalysts.

Polishing of Titanium Alloy Blade Root with Elastic Magnetic Toolic Tool

Removal of milling marks at the root fillet of titanium alloy blade is a tough work because of the interference between the polishing tool and the workpiece.A polishing method based on elastic magnetic tool was *** software ANSYS Maxwell was used to simulate the effect of different pole orientation arrangements on the magnetic field distribution.A comparison of polishing effect was made between elastic and inelastic magnetic pole *** processing parameters of the elastic magnetic tool polishing for the blade root were optimized by orthogonal experiment(Taguchi)*** show that compared with the inelastic magnetic polishing tool,the elastic magnetic polishing tool with polyurethane as the pole carrier can effectively improve the surface quality of the polished *** the optimal processing parameters(rotational speed=900 r/min,feeding rate=6 mm/min,machining gap=1.5 mm and abrasive size=10‒14μm),the original milling marks at the blade root are effectively removed and the average surface roughness Ra is dropped from 0.95μm to 0.12μm,which verifies the feasibility of the elastic magnetic polishing tool in the surface finishing of the titanium alloy blade root.

Enhancing photodynamic inactivation via tunning spatial constraint on photosensitizer

The critical factor of spatial constraint,provided by the external confinement(e.g.,matrix),is often overlooked during photodynamic inactivation,despite playing a crucial role in determining the molecular photophysical process and subsequent antipathogen ***,as a proof-of-concept model,we employed two types of polymers with varying interaction energies with dopants to investigate the intrinsic relationship between spatial constraint and the essential excited-state behaviors of doped photosensitizer(4-(2-(5-(4-(diphenylamino)phenyl)thiophen-2-yl)ethyl)-1-methylquinolin-1-ium iodine,TPP).Through experimental investigation and theoretical calculations,we found that TPP tends to remain in the excited state for a shorter dwell time under weaker spatial constraints due to less restricted molecular motion in polyurethane(PU) ***,the singlet oxygen(^(1)O_(2)) generated from doped-TPP shows a 9.23-fold enhancement in PU than in the polyvinylchloride(PVC) *** light irradiation,the PU@TPP nanofiber can efficiently eliminate the coronavirus MHV-A59(≥99.9997%) at a 220,000-fold higher concentration than the infected *** antibacterial efficacy has also been demonstrated,with a killing rate of ≥99%.

The impedance matching of absorbers is a vital factor affecting their microwave absorption(MA)*** this work,we controllably synthesized Material of Institute Lavoisier 88C(MIL-88C)with varying aspect ratios(AR)as a precursor by regulating oil bath conditions,followed by one-step thermal decomposition to obtain carbon-coated iron-based *** the precursor MIL-88C(Fe)preparation conditions,such as the molar ratio between metal ions and organic ligands(M/O),oil bath temperature,and oil bath time,influenced the phases,graphitization degree,and AR of the derivatives,enabling low filler loading,achieving well-matched impedance,and ensuring outstanding MA *** MOF-derivatives 2(MD_(2))/polyvinylidene Difluoride(PVDF),MD_(3)/PVDF,and MD4/PVDF absorbers all exhibited excellent MA properties with optimal filler loadings below 20 wt%and as low as 5 wt%.The MD_(2)/PVDF(5 wt%)achieved a maximum effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)of 5.52 GHz(1.90 mm).The MD_(3)/PVDF(10 wt%)possessed a minimum reflection loss(RL_(min))value of−67.4 at 12.56 GHz(2.13 mm).A symmetric gradient honeycomb structure(SGHS)was constructed utilizing the high-frequency structure simulator(HFSS)to further extend the EAB,achieving an EAB of 14.6 GHz and a RL_(min) of−59.0 *** research offers a viable inspiration to creating structures or materials with high-efficiency MA properties.
