Despite tremendous efforts to fight cancer,it remains a major public health problem and a leading cause of death *** increased knowledge of cancer pathways and improved technological platforms,precision therapeutics that specifically target aberrant cancer pathways have improved patient ***,a primary cause of unsuccessful cancer therapy remains cancer drug *** this review,we summarize the broad classes of resistance to cancer therapy,particularly pharmacokinetics,the tumor microenvironment,and drug resistance ***,we describe how bacterial-mediated cancer therapy,a bygone mode of treatment,has been revitalized by synthetic biology and is uniquely suited to address the primary resistance mechanisms that confound traditional *** genetic engineering,we discuss how bacteria can be potent anticancer agents given their tumor targeting potential,anti-tumor activity,safety,and coordinated delivery of anti-cancer drugs.

Objective To examine the resilience of parents of children with congenital heart disease and to investigate socio-demographic factors that may influence parents’*** This is a web-based survey study using a cross-sectional design.A purposive sampling method was utilized to recruit 515 parents who care for children with congenital heart *** was assessed using the Dispositional Resilience Scale-Ⅱ.Based on expert-interviews,a questionnaire was designed to collect socio-demographic *** statistics,factor analysis,and linear regressions were used to analyze *** A total of 413 parents completed the survey *** mean resilience score was 3.75(SD=0.61;range=1.89–4.89)with higher scores indicating higher *** linear regression models demonstrated that parents who had lower education levels and lower gross household income had lower resilience(Pconclusions Parents reported resilience that reflected their ability to cope with stressful events and mitigate stressors associated with having and caring for children with congenital heart *** education levels and lower gross household income are associated with lower *** increase parents’resilience,nursing practice and nurse-led interventions should target screening and providing support for parents at-risk for lower *** lower education level and financial hardship are factors that are difficult to modify through personal efforts,charitable foundations,federal and state governments should consider programs that would provide financial and health literacy support for parents at-risk for lower resilience.

Accurate nodal staging at the time of diagnosis of prostate cancer is crucial in determining a treatment plan for the patient. Pelvic lymph node dissection is the most reliable method, but is less than perfect and has increased morbidity. cross sectional imaging with computed tomography (cT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are non-invasive tools that rely on morphologic characteristics such as shape and size of the lymph nodes. However, lymph nodes harboring metastatic disease may be normal sized and non-metastatic lymph nodes may be enlarged due to reactive hyperplasia. The optimal strategy for preoperative staging remains a topic of ongoing research. Advanced imaging techniques to assess lymph nodes in the setting of prostate cancer utilizing novel MRI contrast agents as well as positron emission tomography (PET) tracers have been developed and continue to be studied. Magnetic resonance lymphography utilizing ultra-small super paramagnetic iron oxide has shown promising results in detection of metastatic lymph nodes. combining MRL with diffusion-weighted imaging may also improve accuracy. considerable efforts are being made to develop effective PET radiotracers that are performed using hybrid-imaging systems that combine PET with cT or MRI. PET tracers that will be reviewed in this article include [18F]fluoro-D-glucose, sodium [18F]fluoride, [18F]choline, [11c]choline, prostate specific membrane antigen binding ligands, [11c]acetate, [18F]fluciclovine, gastrin releasing peptide receptor ligands, and androgen binding receptors. This article will review these advanced imaging modalities and ability to detect prostate cancer metastasis to lymph nodes. While more research is needed, these novel techniques to image lymph nodes in the setting of prostate cancer show a promising future in improving initial lymph node staging.

AIM:To examine the clinical spectrum of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and compare erosive (ERD) with non-erosive (NERD) in terms of clinical, demographic and psychiatric profiles. METHODS: Patients with reflux symptoms were enrolled and stratified to NERD and ERD after endoscopy (LA classification). Patients with ERD presenting with dyspepsia were included. Patients on proton pump inhibitors (PPI) or H2 receptor antagonists before endoscopy were excluded. Demographic data, Helicobacter pylori(H pylori) status and presence of minor psychiatric morbidity (based on General Health Questionnaire-28) were analyzed. RESULTS: Among 690 patients screened, 533 were eligible for analysis (male to female ratio: 3:2; chinese: 75.4%; Malay: 9.8%; Indian: 14.8%). clinical spectrum of GERD: N: 40.5%; A: 46%; B: 9.2%; c: 2.1%; D: 0.6%; Barrett's esophagus: 1.7%. compared to patients with NERD, patients with ERD were significantly older (45 vs 39.4 years), more likely to be male (64.4% vs 53.7%), tended to smoke (19.6% vs 9.7%), less likely to have minor psychiatric morbidity (26.4 vs 46.7%) and were more likely to respond to PPI (79.7 vs 66.8%). There was also a trend towards a higher BMI (24.5 vs 23.5). Race, alcohol consumption and H pylori status were not significant. On multivariate analysis, age and presence of minor psychiatric morbidity remained with significant differences. cONcLUSION: The majority of patients who have typical symptoms of GERD have NERD or mild erosive reflux disease. compared to patients with erosive reflux disease, patients with NERD were younger and had a higher prevalence of minor psychiatric morbidity.

The purpose of this study was to determine if the substituted pyrimidine, cXB-909 (formerly known as KP544) which has been shown to amplify the effects of nerve growth factor in elevating choline-acetyltransferase activity in vitro, could attenuate memory deficits in the mu-p-75 saporin injected mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Seventy-one, seven-week old c57/BL6 mice received daily oral intubation of 10, 15, or 20 mg/kg cXB-909, or vehicle (0.5% methylcellulose solution), which continued for 32 days. At postnatal week nine, mice received bilateral intra-cerebroventricular injections of mu-p-75 saporin, or sterile phosphate buffered saline. Seven days after surgery, mice were trained for two days, on a cued-platform version of the Morris water maze task, and then tested on a four-day hidden-platform version, followed by a one-day probe version of this task. Mice injected with mu-p-75 saporin, had increased latency to find the hidden-platform compared to sham mice. Furthermore, mice treated with cXB-909 at the 10, and 15 mg/kg doses, significantly reduced their latency to reach the hidden-platform, compared to vehicle-treated mice given mu-p-75 saporin. These results suggest that cXB-909 can attenuate memory deficits in the mu-p-75 saporin injected mouse model of AD.

A new method of synthesis of 2-(1,2-diferrocenylvinyl)benz- and azabenzimidazoles (3a-f), (4a-f) and 1’H,3’H(Me)-spiro-[(aza)benzimidazoline-2’,3-(1,2-diferrocenylcyclopropenes)] (5a-f) via reactions of diferrocenyl(methylsulfanyl)cyclopropenylium iodide (1) with aromatic o-diamines (2a-f) in the presence of Et3N (80°c - 82°c) is described. The structures of the resultant compounds are established using IR, 1H and 13c NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. The structure of one compound, cis-2-(1,2-diferrocenylvinyl)-1-methylbenzimidazole (3b), is confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. The electrochemical properties of compounds 3a, 3b, 3d and 5f are investigated using cyclic square wave voltammetry. Two electrochemical processes (I-II), attributed to oxidation of the ferrocene moieties, and the values of E0’(I), E0’(II), DE0’(II-I) and comporportionation constant Kcom are reported. The bioactivities of seven compounds 3a, 3c-f, 5d, 5f are evaluated. compound 5f is the most active compound with a modest cytotoxic activity against six human cancer cell lines: U-251 (glioma), Pc-3 (prostate cancer), K-562 (leukemia), HcT-15 (colon cancer), McF-7 (breast cancer) and SKLU-1 (lung cancer).

The primary objective of the study was to determine whether a distanced-based educational in-tervention would result in positive health outcomes for persons with both DM and cognitive impairment. Older adults with Type 2 diabetes (Diabetes Mellitus—DM) who also have cognitive impairment such as Mild cognitive Impairment (McI) or early stage dementia are both challenged and at risk when attempting to live independently. The ability to effectively monitor blood glucose levels and diet and exercise regimens often is severely constrained by the combination of DM and the presence of Mild cognitive Impairment (McI) or early stage dementia. We describe an exploratory study funded by the National Institute of Diabetes Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) in which certified Diabetic Educators (cDEs) were linked with 40 older adult with DM and cognitive impairment using iPads and the internet. cDEs presented personalized education sessions to participants, and 18 of the participants also received a cognitive intervention called Spaced Retrieval (SR), which is designed to train the effective use of strategies to enhance medication compliance and reach other goals. Blood glucose and cholesterol measures were assessed at baseline and at 2-, 4-, and 6-month post intervention. Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels initially declined from baseline after treatment but returned to baseline levels after 6 months. For low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, a significant interaction effect was found for the Group × Time interaction. LDL levels increased from baseline after treatment for the control group, but showed decline after baseline in the SR group. Goals that were initially learned were retained, in general, at short-term follow-up, and self-efficacy increased significantly after training. Results show the need for follow-up and support after initial treatment, as well as the need to see if the effects produced by SR can be replicated and sustained with continued contact.
