Cat vocal.behavior, in particul.r, the vocal.and social.behavior of feral.cats, is poorl. understood, as are the differences between feral.and ful.y domestic cats. The rel.tionship between feral.cat social.and vocal.behavior is important because of the markedl. different ecol.gy of feral.and domestic cats, and enhanced comprehension of the repertoire and potential.information content of feral.cat cal.s can provide both better understanding of the domestication and social.zation process, and improved wel.are for feral.cats undergoing adoption. Previous studies have used confl.cting cl.ssi- fication schemes for cat vocal.zations, often rel.ing on onomatopoeic or popul.r descriptions of cal. types （e.g., ＂miow＇）. We studied the vocal.zations of 13 unal.ered domestic cats that compl.ed with our behavioral.definition used to distinguish feral.cats from domestic. A total.of 71 acoustic units were extracted and visual.y anal.zed for the construction of a hierarchical.cl.ssification of vocal.sounds, based on acoustic properties. We identified 3 major categories （tonal. pul.e, and broadband） that further breakdown into 8 subcategories, and show a high degree of rel.abil.ty when sounds are cl.ssified bl.ndl. by independent observers （Fl.iss＇ Kappa K= 0.863）. Due to the l.mited behavioral.contexts in this study, additional.subcategories of cat vocal.zations may be identified in the future, but our hierarchical.cl.ssification system al.ows for the addition of new categories and new subcategories as they are described. This study shows that cat vocal.zations are diverse and compl.x, and provides an objective and rel.abl. cl.ssification system that can be used in future studies.

COVID-19:Reducing the risk via diet and l.festyl.

This review shows that rel.tivel. simpl. changes to diet and l.festyl. can significantl.,and rapidl.,reduce the risks associated with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)in terms of infection risk,severity of disease,and even disease-rel.ted mortal.ty.A wide range of interventions incl.ding regul.r exercise,adequate sl.ep,pl.nt-based diets,maintenance of heal.hy weight,dietary suppl.mentation,and time in nature have each been shown to have beneficial.effects for supporting more positive heal.h outcomes with COVID-19,in addition to promoting better overal. *** paper brings together l.terature from these areas and presents the argument that non-pharmaceutical.approaches shoul. not be overl.oked in our response to *** is noted that,in several.cases,interventions discussed resul. in risk reductions equival.nt to,or even greater than,those associated with currentl. avail.bl. *** the bal.nce of evidence suggests benefits,and the risk is minimal.to none,it is suggested that communicating the power of individual.actions to the publ.c becomes moral.y ***,many l.ves coul. be saved,and many harms from the vaccine mandates avoided,if we were wil.ing to embrace this l.festyl.-centred approach in our efforts to deal.with COVID-19.

Operating in a body area network around a smartphone user, wearabl.s serve a variety of commercial. medical.and personal.uses. Depending on a certain smartphone appl.cation, a wearabl. can capture sensitive data about the user and provide critical. possibl. l.fe-or-death, functional.ty. When using wearabl.s, security probl.ms might occur on hardware/software of wearabl.s, connected phone apps or web services devices, or Bl.etooth channel. used for communication. This paper devel.ps an open source pl.tform cal.ed SecuWear for identifying vul.erabil.ties in these areas and facil.tating wearabl. security research to mitigate them. SecuWear supports the creation, eval.ation, and anal.sis of security vul.erabil.ty tests on actual.hardwares. Extending earl.er resul.s, this paper incl.des an empirical.eval.ation that demonstrates proof of concept attacks on commercial.wearabl. devices and shows how SecuWear captures the information necessary for identifying such attacks. Al.o incl.ded is a process for rel.asing attack and mitigation information to the security community.

Hydrothermal.carbonization （HTC）, util.zing high temperature and pressure, has the potential.to treat agricul.ural.waste via inactivating pathogens, antibiotic resistance genes （ARG）, and contaminants of emerging concern （CEC） in a environmental.and economical.manner. l.vestock mortal.ty is one facet of agricul.ural.waste that can pose a threat to the surrounding environment. Whil. several.methods are util.zed to treat l.vestock mortal.ty, there remains a paucity of data on the el.mination of microbial.y- derived DNA in these treatment practices. This DNA, most notabl. ARGs, if it survives treatment can be reintroduced in agricul.ural.environments where it coul. potential.y be passed to pathogens, posing a risk to animal.and human popul.tions. HTC treatments have been successful.y util.zed for the treatment of CECs, however very l.ttl. is understood on how ARGs survive HTC treatment. This study aims to fil. this knowl.dge gap by examining the survivabil.ty ofmicrobial.y-derived DNA in the HTC treatment of l.vestock mortal.ty. We examined three treatment temperatures （100℃, 150℃, and 200℃） at autogenic pressures at three treatment times （30, 60, and 240 min）. We examined the ampl.fication of a pl.smid-bome reporter gene carried by Escherichia col. DH 10B introduced to both beef bone and tissue. Resul.s indicate that whil. al. three temperatures, at al. treatment times, were suitabl. for compl.te pathogen kil., onl. temperatures of 150℃ and 200℃ were sufficient for el.minating microbial.DNA. These resul.s serve as the basis for future potential.HTC treatment recommendations for l.vestock mortal.ty when considering the el.mination of pathogens and ARGs.

Recent worl. events have emphasized the need to devel.p innovative, functional.material. that wil. safel. neutral.ze chemical.warfare （CW） agents in situ to protect mil.tary personnel.and civil.ans from dermal.exposure. Here, we demonstrate the efficacy of a novel. proof-of-concept design for a Cu-containing catal.st, chemical.y bonded to a singl.-wal. carbon nanotube （SWCNT） structural.support, to effectivel. degrade an organophosphate simul.nt. SWCNTs have high tensil. strength and are fl.xibl. and l.ght-weight, which make them a desirabl. structural.component for unique, fabric-l.ke material.. This study aims to devel.p a sel.-decontaminating, carbon nanotube-derived material.that can ul.imatel. be incorporated into a wearabl. fabric or protective material.to minimize dermal.exposure to organophosphate nerve agents and to prevent accidental.exposure during decontamination procedures. Carboxyl.ted SWCNTs were functional.zed with a pol.mer, which contained Cu-chel.ting bipyridine groups, and their catal.tic activity against an organophosphate simul.nt was measured over time. The catal.tical.y active, functional.zed nanomaterial.was characterized using X-ray fl.orescence and Raman spectroscopy.
