Importa.ce: Tongue tie (TT) is a.condition tha. ca. ca.se infa.t feeding difficulties due to restricted tongue movement. When TT presents a. a.significa.t ba.rier to brea.tfeeding, a.frenotomy ma. be recommended. Universa.ly a.cepted dia.nostic criteria.for TT a.e la.king a.d wide preva.ence estima.es a.e reported. New referra. processes a.d a.Frenotomy a.sessment Tool were implemented in one Ca.a.ia. hea.th region to connect brea.tfeeding dya.s with a.provider for TT eva.ua.ion a.d ***: To determine the proportion of ba.ies with TT a. well a. the frequency of ***: This cross-sectiona. study included infa.ts who initia.ed brea.tfeeding a. birth a.d were referred for TT eva.ua.ion over a.14-month period. Da.a.were collected retrospectively by cha.t review a.d a.a.yzed using SPSS. Fa.tors a.socia.ed with frenotomy were exa.ined using logistic ***: Two hundred a.d forty-one ba.ies were referred. Ninety-two percent (n = 222) were dia.nosed with TT a.d 66.0% (n = 159) underwent frenotomy. In the multiva.ia.e model, nipple pa.n/tra.ma. ina.ility to la.ch, ina.ility to eleva.e tongue, a.d dimpling of tongue on extension were a.socia.ed with frenotomy (P a.s in our region resulted in a.dia.nosis of TT; however, the number of referra.s wa. lower tha. expected, a.d of these two-thirds underwent ***: TT is a.rela.ively common finding a.ong brea.tfed infa.ts. Ba.kground: Limonene, a.ma.or component in citrus oil, ha. demonstra.ed a.ti-ca.cer effects in preclinica. ma.ma.y ca.cer models. However, the effective ora. dose tra.sla.es to a.huma. dose tha. ma. not be fea.ible for chronic dosing. We proposed to eva.ua.e topica. a.plica.ion of limonene to the brea.t a. a. a.terna.ive dosing stra.egy. Ma.eria.s a.d Methods: We conducted a.mouse disposition study to determine whether limonene would be bioa.a.la.le in the ma.ma.y tissue a.ter topica. a.plica.ion. SKH-1 mice received topica. or ora. a.ministra.ion of limonene in the form of ora.ge oil every da. for 4 weeks. Pla.ma.a.d ma.ma.y pa.s were collected 4 hrs a.ter the fina. dosing. We a.so conducted a. explora.ory clinica. study to eva.ua.e the sa.ety a.d fea.ibility of topica.ly a.plied limonene in the form of ora.ge oil to the brea.t. Hea.thy women were recruited to a.ply ora.ge oil conta.ning ma.sa.e oil to their brea.ts da.ly for four weeks. Sa.ety a.d fea.ibility were a.sessed by reported a.verse events, clinica. la.s, a.d usa.e complia.ce. Pre a.d post-intervention nipple a.pira.e fluid (Na.) a.d pla.ma.were collected for limonene concentra.ion determina.ion. Results: The mouse disposition study showed tha. topica. a.d ora. ora.ge oil a.ministra.ion resulted in simila. ma.ma.y tissue disposition of limonene with no clinica. signs of toxicity. In the clinica. study, the topica. a.plica.ion of limonene conta.ning ma.sa.e oil to the brea.t wa. found to be sa.e with high levels of usa.e complia.ce for da.ly a.plica.ion, a.though Na. a.d pla.ma.limonene concentra.ions were not significa.tly cha.ged a.ter the ma.sa.e oil a.plica.ion. Conclusions: Our studies showed tha. limonene is bioa.a.la.le in ma.ma.y tissue a.ter topica. ora.ge oil a.plica.ion in mice a.d this novel route of a.ministra.ion to the brea.t is sa.e a.d fea.ible in hea.thy women.
