Land use and land cover (LULC) changes strongly affect local hydrology and sediment *** current study focused on a basin in the Brazilian Amazon and had the following three objectives:(1) to perform an effective diagnosis of flow and sediment yield,(2) to evaluate the impacts of LULC changes over the last 40 years on the hydro-sedimentological variables,and (3) to investigate the impacts of the possible trends or breaking points in the flow,surface runoff,and sediment yield *** Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model validation showed that the simulated results were consistent with the data measured in the dynamic reproduction of flow ***,changes in LULC altered surface runoff,sediment yield,and flow according to the Mann-Kendall and Pettitt non-parametric *** was also observed that the sub-basins in which pastureland is predominant are more susceptible to increased surface runoff and sediment *** to trend and homogeneity tests,these sub-basins had break points in the time series of these *** the other hand,in the sub-basins whose land cover is predominantly forest,the time series is homogeneous and *** current study highlighted the impacts that 40 years of LULC changes in an Amazonian basin had on hydro-sedimentological variables,which,in turn,can play an important role in changing the hydrological cycle,consequently these changes can also impact diverse human activities in the region,such as agribusiness,livestock,energy production,food security,and public water ***,it is concluded that the SWAT model is a good estimator of hydro-sedimentological processes in Amazonian basins and can be used by decision makers in the management of water and environmental resources.

Objective: to evaluate the maternal-fetal hemodynamic response with Doppler in pregnant women with chronic arterial hypertension and preeclampsia submitted to controlled isometric activity. Methods: experimental study comparing 50 healthy and 26 hypertensive and 24 preeclamptic pregnant women, from 26 to 36 weeks of gestational age, submitted to isometric contraction with handgrip dynamometer. Maternal hemodynamic parameters (systolic and diastolic blood pressure;heart rate;uterine arteries Doppler) and fetal (heart rate;umbilical artery, middle cerebral and venous duct Doppler) were evaluated before, during and post-isometry. Results: in preeclampsia were observed higher values of blood pressure and uterine artery indexes in all times;middle cerebral artery indexes in the pre and post-isometry;and of maternal heart rate post-isometry. In hypertensive women, systolic blood pressure is increased all the times, with indexes of the right uterine and middle cerebral arteries higher in pre-isometry;middle cerebral and umbilical arteries greater during isometry;and maternal heart rate and umbilical artery indexes bigger after isometry. Conclusion: blood pressure is higher in preeclamptic and hypertension women. The right uterine artery has more resistance in preeclampsia, with a significant decrease in pre to isometry in hypertensive and preeclamptic women;and increased in contraction to post-isometry in healthy and hypertensive women. The left uterine artery increases resistance post-isometry in all groups. The fetal hemodynamic parameters did not show significant differences when comparing the before, during and post-isometry.

Background: Studies on physical activity during pregnancy and its impact on mother and fetus are still limited. International protocols consider only aerobic exercise and fail to provide information about other modalities such as isometric exercise. Isometric exercise promotes cardiorespiratory resistance and muscle strengthening, but it is rarely tested on pregnant women because it increases maternal blood pressure and can subsequently affect placental circulation. Objectives: To assess the fetal response by use of Doppler study in diabetes pregnant women submitted to isometric exercise. Methods: A cross-sectional experimental study was conducted on 25 diabetes pregnant women with gestational age between 26 and 36 weeks. The patients were submitted to isometric handgrip, and data were collected from the mother (blood pressure, heart rate and Doppler velocimetry for the uterine arteries) and from the fetus (heart rate, Doppler velocimetry for the umbilical artery, middle cerebral artery and ductus venosus). All variables were collected before, during and after the isometric handgrip. Given the high and increasing lightning incidence over the Southeast of Brazil and the various impacts that this phenomenon generates to society, there is a growing need in predicting its occurrence, in order to minimize its consequences. In this context, this work presents the development of a methodology for the projection of lightning in the State of S?o Paulo (Southeastern Brazil), using the HadGEM2-ES and CSIRO-Mk3.6 models in two IPCC climate change scenarios: RCP4.5 and RCP8.5. Since lightning is not an output variable of climate models, tests were carried out to evaluate the relationship between the observed data of oceanic and atmospheric fields, which are known as outputs of the models, and the lightning from the RINDAT and BrasilDAT detection networks. As result, a correlation of 0.84 was obtained. In the projections, it was verified that, while during a large portion of the current climate we observed events of lightning below the average, the future climate reveals the preponderance of anomalously above average events, both in the scenario of intermediate-low emissions (RCP4.5) and in the scenario of high emissions (RCP8.5), suggesting a change in the pattern of the lightning incidence in the State of S?o Paulo.

Evaluation of the genotoxic and cytotoxic potentials is a part of the analysis process where plant products with therapeutic properties must be submitted for being safely employed, mainly through long time points, doannesia princeps, also known as ＂cotieira＂ has been used on popular medicine as laxative and several diseases treatment. Aiming to analyze genotoxic potential ofd. princeps leaves extract, Allium cepa assay and micronucleus test were employed. No genotoxic activity presented J. princeps leaves extract; however, extracts cytotoxic activity over A. cepa meristematic cells and mice marrow cells was observed. J. princeps leaves extract presented antiproliferative activity at concentrations and systems employed indicating their therapeutic potential for cellular cycle inhibition. Moreover, results showed that in regard to its mutagenic effect, usage of J. princeps leaves tea on popular medicine has been a safe procedure, as well.

Aims Soil plays an important role in the formation and heterogene-ity of habitats and thus can cause changes in vegetation struc-ture and plant *** differentiation between Cerrado/savanna and forest is well known,but the relationship between soil and habitats from savannic or forest formations still needs to be better understood,particularly in tropical ecotonal *** studied the association between attributes of plant com-munities,namely structure and diversity,and physicochemical characteristics of soils in the Caatinga domain at the transition to Cerrado in *** Chemical and physical analyses of soils were performed in samples of 38 plots from savannic formations and 30 plots from forest *** was characterized floristically and structurally in all plots,five habitats being assessed in each plant *** features and vegetation parameters were highly distinct among the different *** Findingsin general,forest habitats were more nutrient rich than savannic ***,soil variables showed effects both on vegetation structure and on its species diversity,more pronouncedly in the savannic *** were structurally distinct,and diversity differed between savannic and forest communities;however,a higher differentiation occurred when the savannic formation habitats were compared among *** plant diversity did not differ among forest formation habitats,soil attributes showed a close relationship with edaphic factors and can contribute for similar *** soil-vegetation relationship in highly diverse ecotonal landscapes is important from the conservation biology point of view and aid in the execution of proactive plans for the maintenance of ***,we noticed that diversity and soil behaves distinctly between savannic and forest communities.

AIM To evaluate the sex-specific effects of a hydroalcoholic extract from Eugenia punicifolia(HEEP) leaves on gastric ulcer *** In this rat study involving males, intact(cycling) females, and ovariectomized females, gastric ulcers were induced using acetic acid. A vehicle, lansoprazole, or HEEP was administered for 14 d after ulcer induction. Body weight was monitored throughout the treatment period. At the end of treatment, the rats were euthanized and the following in vivo and in vitro investigations were performed: macroscopic examination of the lesion area and organ weights, biochemical analysis, zymography, and evaluation of protein expression levels. Additionally, the concentration-dependent effect of HEEP was evaluated in terms of subacute toxicity and *** Compared to the vehicle, HEEP demonstrated a great healing capacity by substantially reducing the ulcerative lesion area in males(52.44%), intact females(85.22%), and ovariectomized females(65.47%), confirming that HEEP accelerates the healing of acetic acidinduced gastric lesions and suggesting that this effect is modulated by female sex hormones. The antiulcer effect of HEEP was mediated by prostaglandin E2 only in male rats. Overall, the beneficial effect of HEEP was the highest in intact females. Notably, HEEP promoted the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(intact vs ovariectomized females) and decreased the expression of Caspase-8 and Bcl-2(intact female vs male or ovariectomized female). Additionally, HEEP enhanced fibroblast proliferation and migration into a wounded area in vitro, confirming its healing effect. An Overview of the Amazonian Craton Evolution: Insights for Paleocontinental Reconstruction

The Amazonian craton major accretionary and collisional processes may be correlated to supercontinent assemblies developed at several times in the Earth history. Based on geologic, structural and paleomagnetic evidence paleocontinent reconstructions have been proposed for Archean to younger times. The oldest continent (Ur) was formed probably by five Achaean cratonic areas (Kaapvaal, Western Dhawar, Bhandara, Singhhum and Pilbara cratons). Geologic evidences suggest the participation of the Archaean rocks of the Carajás region in the Ur landmass. Supercontinental 2.45 Ga Kenorland amalgamation is indicated by paleomagnetic data including Laurentia, Baltica, Australia, and Kalahari and Kaapvaal cratons. There is no evidence indicating that Amazonian craton was part of the Kenorland supercontinent. From 1.83 Ga to 1.25 Ga Columbia and Hudsonland supercontinents including Amazonian craton were proposed based on NE portion of the Amazonian craton (Maroni/Itacaiunas province) connection with West Africa and Kalahari cratons. Rodinia supercontinent reconstructions show Amazonia joined to Laurentia-Baltica as result of 1.1 Ga to 1.0 Ga fusion based on the Sunsas-Aguapei belts and Greenville and Sveconorwegian belts, respectivelly. The large Late Mesoproterozoic landmass included also Siberia, East Antartica, West Nile, Kalahari, Congo/Sao francisco and Greenland. The 750 - 520 Ma Gondwana assembly includes most of the continental fragments rifted apart during the break-up of Rodinia followed by diachronic collisions (Araguaia, Paraguay and Tucavaca belts). The supercontinent Pangea is comprised of Gondwana and Laurentia formed at about 300 - 180 Ma ago. The Amazonian craton margins probably were not envolved in the collisional processes during Pangea because it was embebed in Neoproterozoic materials. As consequence, Amazonian craton borders have no record of the orogenic processes responsible for the Pangea amalgamation.
