Anticancer and Antimicrobial Activity of Aspergillus protuberus sP1 Isolated from Marine sediments of south Indian Coast

AIM:To explore the antimicrobial and anticancer activity of the fungi isolated from marine sediments of south India coastal ***:Marine sediments were collected from different coastal locations of Kanyakumari District,south *** collected marine sediment samples were serially diluted and cultured using sDA media with seawater under appropriate culture *** activity was confirmed by crowded plate *** activity of marine fungi isolate was evaluated against six human pathogenic bacteria viz.,Enterobacter aerogenes.,Escherichia coli,Proteus mirabilis,Bacillus subtilis,staphylococcus aureus,and Klebsiella pneumoniae.,with different solvents like n-butanol,chloroform,water and *** activity of the selective fungal extracts was tested against Hep 2 cells using MTT ***:Fungus isolated from Muttom coast of south India showed activity against human *** fungi isolate Aspergillus protuberus sP1 was identified by partial sequence of large subunit ribosomal RNA(GenBank accession No.:HQ 386016).Different polar and non-polar solvent extracts of the marine-derived fungus isolate showed antibacterial activity towards various Gram-positive and Gram-negative human *** n-butanol extract of mycelium showed maximum *** on antibacterial activity,the n-butanol extract was selected for anticancer test against Hep 2 cell *** n-butanol extract was subjected to column chromatographic separation using different solvent compositions with ethanol:methanol(9:1) giving better *** fraction was analyzed by GC-Ms study showing the presence of nine ***:These results are useful for further investigation of the fungus in the future.

Nitrogen-Doped Graphene Foam as a Metal-Free Catalyst for Reduction Reactions under a High Gravity Field

Herein,we report on the effect of a high gravity field on metal-free catalytic reduction,taking the nitrobenzene(NB)reduction and methylene blue(MB)degradation as model reactions in a highgravity rotating tube reactor packed with three-dimensional(3D)nitrogen-doped graphene foam(NGF)as a metal-free *** apparent rate constant(kapp)of the metal-free catalytic reduction of NB in the rotating tube reactor under a high gravity level of 6484g(g=9.81 m s-2)was six times greater than that in a conventional stirred reactor(sTR)under *** fluid dynamics(CFD)simulations indicated that the improvement of the catalytic efficiency was attributed to the much higher turbulent kinetic energy and faster surface renewal rate in the high-gravity tube reactor in comparison w让h those in a conventional *** structure of the 3D metal-free catalysts was stable during the reaction process under a high gravity field,as confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPs)and Raman *** the other model reaction,the rate of MB degradation also increased as the high gravity level in creased gradually,which aligns with the result for the NB catalytic reduction *** results demonstrate the potential to use a high-gravity rotating packed tube reactor for the process intensification of metal-free catalytic reduction reactions.

Adaptive introductions:How multiple experiments and comparisons to wild populations provide insights into requirements for long-term introduction success of an endangered shrub

Phosphorus Uptake and Utilisation Efficiencies of Different Wheat Cultivars Based on a sand-Culture screening system

A sand-based culture system using rock phosphate (P) was developed to simulate the situation in alkalinesoils, with respect to the dominant P form, and five wheat cultivars (Excalibur, Brookton, Krichauff, Westoniaand sunco) were tested in this screening system to compare their P uptake and utilisation efficiencies. Resultsshowed that these cultivars differed significantly in their ability to acquire P from the sparingly available form(rock phosphate in this case). The accumulation of P by Brookton was three times that by Krichauff. Pconcentrations in plant tissues did not differ significantly, indicating that all cultivars were similar in Putilisation efficiency. A further experiment showed that the greater ability of a cultivar to take up P fromsparingly available form was related to the ability of a cultivar to acidify the rhizosphere. seed P content wasa confounding factor in this system, and the use of relatively uniform seed with similar P content, preferablylow, was conducive to a successful outcome of the screening process.

Nutritional therapy for active Crohn’s disease

Nutritional therapy for active Crohn’s disease (CD) is an underutilised form of treatment in adult patients, though its use is common in the paediatric population. There is evidence that nutritional therapy can effectively induce remission of CD in adult patients. Enteral nutrition therapy is safe and generally well tolerated. Meta-analysis data suggest that corticosteroids are superior to nutritional treatment for induction of remission in active CD. However, the potential side effects of such pharmacotherapy must be taken into consideration. This review examines the evidence for the efficacy of elemental and polymeric diets, and the use of total parenteral nutrition in active CD.

Thomson scattering (Ts), as a popular and reliable diagnostic technique, has successfully measured electron temperatures and electron number densities of plasmas for many years. However, conventional Ts techniques using Nd:YAG lasers operate only at tens of hertz. Here, we present the development of a high-repetition-rate Ts instrument based on a high-speed, pulse-burst laser system to greatly increase the temporal resolution of measurements. successful instrument prototype testing was carried out by collecting Ts light from laboratory helium and argon plasmas at 10 kHz. Calibration of the instrument detection sensitivity using nitrogen/ oxygen rotational Raman scattering signal is also presented. Quantitative electron number densities and electron temperatures of the plasma were acquired at 10 kHz, for stable plasma discharges as, respectively,~0.9 eV and ~5.37×10^21 m^-3 for the argon plasma, and ~1 eV and ~6.5×10^21 m^-3 for the helium plasma.

Impact of Tillage and Fertilizer Application Method on Gas Emissions in a Corn Cropping system

Tillage and fertilization practices used in row crop production are thought to alter greenhouse gas emissions from soil. This study was conducted to determine the impact of fertilizer sources, land management practices, and fertilizer placement methods on greenhouse gas （CO2, CH4, and N2O） emissions. A new prototype implement developed for applying poultry litter in subsurface bands in the soil was used in this study. The field site was located at the sand Mountain Research and Extension Center in the Appalachian Plateau region of northeast Alabama, UsA, on a Hartsells fine sandy loam （fine-loamy, siliceous, subactive, thermic Typic Hapludults）. Measurements of carbon dioxide （CO2）, methane （CH4）, and nitrous oxide （N20） emissions followed GRACEnet （greenhouse gas reduction through agricultural carbon enhancement network） protocols to assess the effects of different tillage （conventional vs. no-tillage） and fertilizer placement （subsurface banding vs. surface application） practices in a corn （Zea mays L.） cropping system. Fertilizer sources were urea-ammonium nitrate （UAN）, ammonium nitrate （AN） and poultry litter （M） applied at a rate of 170 kg ha^（-1） of available N. Banding of fertilizer resulted in the greatest concentration of gaseous loss （CO2 and N2O） compared to surface applications of fertilizer. Fertilizer banding increased CO2 and N2O loss on various sampling days throughout the season with poultry litter banding emitting more gas than UAN banding. Conventional tillage practices also resulted in a higher concentration of CO2 and N2O loss when evaluating tillage by sampling day. Throughout the course of this study, CH4 flux was not affected by tillage, fertilizer source, or fertilizer placement method. These results suggest that poultry litter use and banding practices have the potential to increase greenhouse gas emissions.

Evolving carbon dioxide emission rate intensities of coal-fired power plant on U.s. electricity operating systems

For many years, coal-fired power plant generation comprised the largest share of electricity in the *** sector. While natural gas plants now constitute a greater portion of the total, coal is projected to remain a shrinking but significant component of U.s. electricity production. Natural gas-fired technologies are dispatchable and versatile generation sources, but the recent and anticipated growth of wind and solar technologies will add nondispatchable, intermittent power generation sources to *** grids. Numerous emissions-related benefits arise from the deployment of these technologies, but they must coexist with coal plants, many of which run most efficiently under baseload operating procedures. Historical monthly emissions data has been analyzed on a sample of coal plants to show how modified coal operations have affected plant emission rates, as measured by carbon dioxide emitted per unit of electricity output. statistically significant correlations between plant capacity factors and emission rate intensity have been observed by the majority of the sample, showing a worsening under more sporadic operations. since nearly all of the coal plants in the sample are generating less electricity, determining the emission impact of operational decisions will assist policymakers as they seek to minimize total system emissions without severe disruptions to electricity cost and service reliability.

Ecological succession following forest decline in a xeric oak forest of south-central United states

Aims The loss of canopy trees associated with forest decline can greatly influence the species composition and structure of a forest and have major impacts on the *** studied the changes in forest composition and structure 1 and 5 years following nearly total canopy mortality on several hundreds of hectares of xeric oak forests in south-central United *** the forests were within an ecotonal vegetation type composed of a mosaic of forest,savanna and grassland,we sought to learn whether forest decline areas would recover to forest or change to more open savanna and grassland conditions in the landscape pattern of *** low intensity fire shaped the vegetation type,we sought to learn whether fire would keep the decline areas *** The study was conducted in a xeric oak forest in east-central Oklahoma,*** located vegetation and regeneration surveys were conducted in decline and non-decline stands 1 and 5 years following nearly total canopy *** at breast height(DBH),regeneration and sprout origin were recorded for all woody *** FindingsThe major canopy species post oak(Quercus stellata Wangenh.),blackjack oak(Quercus marilandica Muenchh.)and black hickory(Carya texana Buckl.)suffered 85-92%mortality;however,minor canopy components experienced limited *** affected all size classes of canopy trees except those below 5 cm breast height *** was abundant regeneration of all species and fire seemed to maintain a high level of *** appeared to decrease the relative importance of stump sprouting and increase other types including root *** areas had abundant true seedlings,with stem origin from a root with the same diameter as the stem,which is very unusual for xeric oak *** height in decline areas was twice that of non-decline *** findings suggest that forest decline may lead to:(i)reduced oak dominance and species change in t
