Targeting harmful effects of non-excitatory amino acids as an alternative therapeutic strategy to reduce ischemic damage

The involvement of the excitatory amino acids glutamate and aspartate in ce rebral ischemia and excitotoxicity is ***,the role of non-excitatory amino acids in brain damage following a stroke or brain trauma remains largely *** release of amino acids by necrotic cells in the ischemic core may contribute to the expansion of the *** findings indicated that the reversible loss of field excitato ry postsynaptic potentials caused by transient hypoxia became irreversible when exposed to a mixture of just four non-excitatory amino acids(L-alanine,glycine,L-glutamine,and L-serine)at their plasma *** amino acids induce swelling in the somas of neurons and astrocytes during hypoxia,along with permanent dendritic damage mediated by N-methyl-D-aspartate *** N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors prevented neuronal damage in the presence of these amino acids during *** is likely that astroglial swelling caused by the accumulation of these amino acids via the alanine-serine-cysteine transporter 2 exchanger and system N transporters activates volume-regulated anion channels,leading to the release of excitotoxins and subsequent neuronal damage through N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor ***,previously unrecognized mechanisms involving non-excitatory amino acids may contribute to the progression and expansion of brain injury in neurological emergencies such as stroke and traumatic brain *** these pathways co uld highlight new therapeutic targets to mitigate brain injury.

Ultrasound-assisted extraction of antioxidant polyphenolic compounds from Nephelium lappaceum L.(mexican variety) husk

Objective: To reach the recovery and identification of antioxidant polyphenolic compounds from Nephelium lappaceum L.(mexican variety) husk using ultrasound-assisted extraction and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry as well as the in vitro antioxidant activity. methods: Rambutan husk extracts were obtained by ultrasound-assisted extraction, mass/volume ratio, water/ethanol percentage and extraction time were evaluated. Once the best extraction condition of polyphenolic compounds was defined, a polyphenolic fraction was recovered using Ambetlite XAD-16. The total content of antioxidant polyphenolic compounds was determined by summation of the total hydrolysable polyphenol and total condensed polyphenol contents. Recovered compounds were identified by FTIR(ATR) spectroscopy and hPLC/EsI/ms. The antioxidant activity was carried out by ABTs, DPPh and lipid oxidation inhibition in vitro methods. Results: In mexican variety rambutan husk, the total polyphenolic content was 487.67 mg/g, after ultrasound-assisted extraction. According to the hPLC/EsI/ms analysis 12 antioxidant polyphenolic compounds were identified, mostly ellagitannins such as geraniin, corilagin and ellagic acid. The antioxidant activity determined by ABTs, DPPh and lipid oxidation inhibition methods was demonstrated. The main functional groups of the identified compounds were determined by FTIR analysis. Conclusions: It was demonstrated that ultrasound-assisted extraction was effective and allowed the extraction and recovery of antioxidant polyphenolic compounds. Furthermore mexican variety rambutan husk is an important source for recovering polyphenolic compounds with antioxidant activity, these compounds have potential application for the treatment/prevention of various diseases related to cancer and pathogenic microorganisms.

Polycystic liver diseases(PCLDs) are a heterogeneous group of genetic disorders characterized by the development of multiple fluid-filled cysts in the liver,which derive from cholangiocytes,the epithelial cells lining the bile *** these cysts grow,symptoms such as abdominal distension,nausea,and abdominal pain may *** may exist isolated(i.e.,autosomal dominant polycystic liver disease,ADPLD) or in combination with renal cystogenesis(i.e.,autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease and autosomal recessive polycystic liver disease).The exact prevalence of PCLDs is unknown,but is estimated to occur in approximately 1:1000 *** the pathogenesis of each form of PCLD appears to be different,increasing evidences indicate that hepatic cystogenesis is a phenomenon that may involve somatic loss of heterozygosity(LOh) in those pathological conditions inherited in a dominant form.A recent report,using highly sophisticated methodology,demonstrated that ADPLD patients with a germline mutation in the protein kinase C substrate 80K-h(PRKCsh) gene mostly develop hepatic cystogenesis through a second somatic *** hepatocystin,the PRKCsh-encoding protein,was absent in the hepatic cysts with LOh,it was still expressed in the heterozygous *** the other hand,no additional trans-heterozygous mutations on the sEC63 homolog(*** /sEC63) gene(also involved in the development of PCLDs) were *** data indicate that PCLD is recessive at the cellular level,and point out the important role of hepatocystin loss in *** this commentary,we discuss the knowledge regarding the role of somatic second-hit mutations in the development of PCLDs,and the most relevant findings have been highlighted.

Approximate energies and thermal properties of a position-dependent mass charged particle under external magnetic fields

We solve the schrodinger equation with a position-dependent mass（PDm） charged particle interacted via the superposition of the morse-plus-Coulomb potentials and is under the influence of external magnetic and Aharonov–Bohm（AB） flux fields. The nonrelativistic bound state energies together with their wave functions are calculated for two spatially-dependent mass distribution functions. We also study the thermal quantities of such a system. Further, the canonical formalism is used to compute various thermodynamic variables for second choosing mass by using the Gibbs formalism. We give plots for energy states as a function of various physical parameters. The behavior of the internal energy, specific heat, and entropy as functions of temperature and mass density parameter in the inverse-square mass case for different values of magnetic field are shown.

New ternary superconducting compound LaRu2As2： Physical properties from density functional theory calculations

In this paper, we perform the density functional theory （DFT） -based calculations by the first-principles pseudopo- tential method to investigate the physical properties of the newly discovered superconductor LaRu2As2 for the first time. The optimized structural parameters are in good agreement with the experimental results. The calculated independent elas- tic constants ensure the mechanical stability of the compound. The calculated Cauchy pressure, Pugh＇s ratio as well as Poisson＇s ratio indicate that LaRu2As2 should behave as a ductile material. Due to low Debye temperature, LaRu2As2 may be used as a thermal barrier coating （TBC） material. The new compound should exhibit metallic nature as its valence bands overlap considerably with the conduction bands. LaRu2As2 is expected to be a soft material and easily machinable because of its low hardness value of 6.8 GPa. The multi-band nature is observed in the calculated Fermi surface. A highly anisotropic combination of ionic, covalent and metallic interactions is expected to be in accordance with charge density calculation.

Electrical features of radio-frequency atmospheric pressure helium discharge with and without dielectric electrodes

A comparative study of radio-frequency atmospheric pressure glow discharge(rf APGD)generated in helium with and without dielectric electrodes to investigate the effect of electrodes insulation on electrical features of APGD is presented. In the α mode, both the rf APGDs remain volumetric, stable and uniform. In the γ mode, the APGD without dielectric electrodes shrinks into a constricted plasma column whereas APGD with dielectric electrodes remains stable and retains the same volume without plasma constriction even at higher densities of discharge current. A comparison of electrical features of both rf APGDs in normal and abnormal glow discharge regimes is presented. In both APGDs with and without dielectric electrodes,impedance measurements have been performed and compared with equivalent circuit *** measured impedance data is found to be in good agreement with simulated data.

The sexually dimorphic expression of glutamate transporters and their implication in pain after spinal cord injury

Influence of Zn^(2+)or Cu^(2+) on Reduction and Recalcination Behavior of Fe_2TiO_5

Fe2O3, TiO2, CuO and ZnO powders were mixed according to the formula of （1-x）TiO2 xCuO-Fe2O3 or （1-x）TiO2 xZnO-Fe2O3 （x=0, 0.2 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1）, and well ball-milled with h2O for 3 h to ensure homogeneity of the powdered solids, then fired at 1200℃ for 4 h. The fired samples were reduced at 500℃ with hydrogen gas. The reduced samples were subjected to recalcination at 500℃ in CO2 atmosphere. Both of fired, reduced and calcined samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, vibrating sample magnetometry, reflected light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Different phases were formed after firing of Cu^＋2 or Zn^2＋ substituted Fe2TiO5. magnetization （Bs） of the formed phases after firing are very low corresponding to diluted magnetic semiconductors （Dms） and increases with increasing the substituted cations （Cu^＋2 or Zn^2＋）. The reduction of the fired samples enhanced the Bs values whereas the reducibility increases with increasing the Cu^＋2 or Zn^2＋ content. samples show different tendency toward CO2 decomposition which is very important for environmental minimization for CO2.

Calculation of the infrared frequency and the damping constant (full width at half maximum) for metal organic frameworks

The ρ(Nh2) infrared(IR) frequencies and the corresponding full width at half maximum(FWhm) values for(Ch3)2 Nh2 FeⅢ m Ⅱ(hCOO)6(DmFe m, m = Ni, Zn, Cu, Fe, and mg) are analyzed at various temperatures by using the experimental data from the literature. For the analysis of the IR frequencies of the ρ(Nh2) mode which is associated with the structural phase transitions in those metal structures, the temperature dependence of the mode frequency is assumed as an order parameter and the IR frequencies are calculated by using the molecular field theory. Also, the temperature dependence of the IR frequencies and of the damping constant as calculated from the models of pseudospin(dynamic disorder of dimethylammonium(DmA+) cations)–phonon coupling(Ps) and of the energy fluctuation(EF), is fitted to the observed data for the wavenumber and FWhm of the ρ(Nh2) IR mode of the niccolites studied here. We find that the observed behavior of the IR frequencies and the FWhm of this mode can be described adequately by the models studied for the crystalline structures of interest. This method of calculating the frequencies(IR and Raman) and FWhm of modes which are responsible for the phase transitions can also be applied to some other metal organic frameworks.
