With the recent advancement in nanotechnology,nanoparticles(NPs)offer an ample variety of smart functions than conventional materials in various aspects.As compared to larger particles,NPs possess unique characteristics and excellent abilities,such as low toxicity,chemical stability,surface functionality,and biocompatibility.These advantageous properties allow them to be widely utilized in many applications,including biomedical applications,energy applications,IT applications,and industrial applications.In order to fulfill the increasing demands of NP applications,existing NP synthesis methods need to be improved based on the requirements of different applications to further their usage.A comprehensive understanding of the relationships between synthesis parameters and properties of NPs can help us better fine-tune them with designed properties and minimal toxicity.This review paper will discuss the commonly used synthesis methods of functionalized NPs,as well as future directions and challenges to develop various synthesis methods further.

Networked rural electrification is an alternative approach to accelerate rural electrification.Using satellite photos and GIS tools,an electrical distribution network is used to connect villages and properly located generation facilities together to reduce electrification cost.To design the network,optimal paths connecting all node-pairs are identified,followed by finding a network topology that minimizes cost.Earlier work has illustrated that A*(A-star,an optimal path-finding algorithm)is inefficient for this application due to the complex topography in rural areas.The multiplier-accelerated A*(MAA*)algorithm overcomes key performance issues,but,like A*,produces only one path connecting each node-pair.Relying on one path increases project risk because adverse conditions,such as inaccurate GIS estimation,unexpected soil conditions,land-rights disputes,political issues,etc.can occur during implementation.In this paper,a hybrid path-finding method combining genetic algorithm and A*/MAA*algorithm is proposed.The proposed method provides a family of near-optimal paths instead of a single optimal path for routing.A family of paths allows a project implementer to quickly adapt to unexpected situations as new information becomes available,and flexibly change network topology before or during implementation with minimal impact on project cost.

Effectiveness of exploring historical commits for developer recommendation： an empirical study

Developer recommendation is an essential task for resolving incoming issues in the evolution of software. Many developer recommendation techniques have been developed in the literature; among these studies, most techniques usually combined historical commits as supplementary information with bug repositories and/or source-code repositories to recommend developers. However, the question of whether the messages in historical commits are always useful has not yet been answered. This article aims at solving this problem by conducting an empirical study on four open-source projects. The results show that：（1） the number of meaningful words of the commit description has an impact on the quality of the commit, and a larger number of meaningful words in the description means that it can generally better reflect developers＇ expertise; （2） using commit description to recommend the relevant developers is better than that using relevant files that are recorded in historical commits; （3） developers tend to change the relevant files that they have changed many times before; （4） developers generally tend to change the files that they have changed recently.

Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumours: Results and Outcomes

Aim: This study aimed to determine the demographic, clinical, paraclinical, therapeutic, and evolutive characteristics of patients with bladder tumors who underwent transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBT) at a urology center in Douala, Cameroon. Patients and Methods: This was a retrospective study carried out from 2015 to 2019 on 32 patients with bladder tumors that were managed at the Centre medico-chirugical d’urologie in Douala, Cameroon. The relevant data were obtained from patients’ clinical records. Results: A total of 32 patients (25 men and 7 women) aged 29 - 75 years were included in this study. The mean age of the study participants was 58.63 ± 11.00 years. Among our study participants, there were 10 smokers (31.25%). Eight (25%) of them had occupational exposure while 2 (6.25%) had residential exposure to bladder cancer. Thirty (93.75%) presented with hematuria, 2 (6.25%) presented with recurrent urinary tract infections, and 1 (3.13%) presented with acute urinary colic. Nineteen (59.38%) of them were anemic, with 4 (12.5%) requiring blood transfusions. Twenty-seven (84.38%) of them had pedunculated tumors while 5 (15.62%) had sessile tumors. The tumor diameters ranged from 1 cm to 5 cm, with a mean diameter of 2.75 ± 1.22 cm. Complete resection was performed in 27 (84.38%) participants while partial resection was performed in 5 (15.62%) patients. The early single instillation of intravesical chemotherapy with mitomycin was performed in 8 (25%) patients. Only one (3.13%) patient had a postoperative complication, and seven (21.88%) patients experienced tumor recurrence and underwent a second TURBT. Two (6.25%) of the 32 patients died and 30 (93.75%) survived. Conclusion: TURBT is the gold standard method of managing bladder tumors. This procedure is at the same time diagnostic and therapeutic for tumors that do not invade the walls of the urinary bladder.

Bipolar Transurethral Prostate Resection: A Study of 112 Cases

Background: With the advancement of technology, prostate resection can be performed nowadays using endoscopic techniques, which include monopolar and bipolar transurethral prostate resection. This study aimed to evaluate the results of bipolar transurethral prostate resection in a single urology center in Cameroon. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective study carried out over two years (2015-2017) involving 112 patients with symptomatic prostate diseases who underwent transurethral prostate resection with the help of a bipolar Olympus generator. Results: The ages of the participants ranged from 44 years to 85 years, with a mean age of 64.41 ± 9.5 years. Fifty-six (50%) patients presented with only obstructive symptoms, five (4.46%) had only irritative symptoms, twenty (17.86%) presented with both obstructive and irritative symptoms, eight (7.14%) presented with macroscopic hematuria, seven (6.25%) with urinary tract infections, and sixteen (14.29%) with acute urinary retention. Digital rectal examination was unremarkable in 74 (66.07%) findings and was positive in 38 (33.93%) patients. The median prostate diameter was 70 [59 - 86.5] mm. The mean preoperative IPSS was 24.46 ± 5.68. The mean surgery duration was 77.61 ± 23.87 minutes. The mean volume of irrigation fluid used during surgery was 24.84 ± 6.40 ml. The differences between the preoperative and postoperative mean IPPS score, maximum urine flow rate, and quality of life were statistically significant (all P Conclusion: Bipolar transurethral prostate resection is a viable alternative to open surgery or laparoscopic surgery for large prostate glands. This technique is also associated with a reduction in prostate-related morbidity.

The trade war between the USA and China has shocked many across the world.A disruption to the interdependence of the two largest economies seemed unfathomable.However,in an effort to thwart China’s economic practices and boost the US economy,President Trump’s administration levied tariffs on Chinese imports shortly after taking office,moving US foreign economic policy from liberalism,practiced for decades,to protectionism.China has retaliated,and the trade war continues today.With conceptual insights from the nationalism literature,we explore the nationalist roots of the trade war from both the US and Chinese perspectives.In the USA,the Trump administration’s plan to achieve energy autonomy,decrease reliance on foreign resources,and reinvigorate the manufacturing sector has led to protectionist policies,the othering of China,and hence the trade war.Although reluctant to enter the conflict,China has rebuffed the USA,resisting and counterattacking US actions,owing to a long-felt sense of persecution in the global space and an eagerness to participate fully,and lead in some issue areas,in international affairs.The conflict continues into the COVID-19 era,marked by US scapegoating of China and hits to economic performance.Until both sides are convinced they have achieved their goals,or the USA undergoes an administration change,the conflict will likely continue.

Improved Analysis of PINNs:Alleviate the CoD for Compositional Solutions

In this paper,we present an improved analysis of the Physics Informed Neural Networks(PINNs)method for solving second-order elliptic equations.By assuming an intrinsic sparse structure in the underlying solution,we provide a convergence rate analysis that can overcome the curse of dimensionality(CoD).Specifically,using some approximation theory in Sobolev space together with the multivariate Faa di Bruno formula,we first derive the approximation error for composition functions with a small degree of freedom in each compositional layer.Furthermore,by integrating several results on the statistical error of neural networks,we obtain a refined convergence rate analysis for PINNs in solving elliptic equations with compositional solutions.We also demonstrate the benefits of the intrinsic sparse structure with two simple numerical examples.
