A LES model is proposed to predict the dispersion of particles in the atmosphere in the context of Chemical,Biological,Radiological and Nuclear(CBRN)*** code relies on the Finite Element Method(FEM)for both the fluid and the dispersed solid *** from the Navier-Stokes equations and a general description of the FEM strategy,the Streamline Upwind Petrov-Galerkin(SUPG)method is formulated putting some emphasis on the related assembly matrix and stabilization ***,the Variational Multiscale Method(VMS)is presented together with a detailed illustration of its algorithm and hierarchy of computational *** is demonstrated that the VMS can be considered as a more general version of the SUPG *** final part of the work is used to assess the reliability of the implemented predictor/multicorrector solution strategy.

Ungulate browsing often impairs tree regeneration,thus preventing the achievement of economic or conservation *** ungulate management would thus benefit from a practical decision tool that facilitates method selection from a wide range of monitoring methods and indicators currently *** this study,we first provide an overview of the different browsing-impact monitoring methods and indicators currently *** then present a newly developed decision matrix for method evaluation that can assist forest stakeholders in choosing the browsing-impact monitoring method best suited to their needs,based on the selected *** first step involved two separate literature reviews to create an overview of the currently applied methods and to select the indicators best suited for measuring browsing *** types of indicator groups with their respective parameters were considered important for method evaluation:browsing indicators(*** density,browsing incidents),performance indicators(***,expertise)and data quality indicators(*** to measurement errors).Subsequently,all parameters defined within each indicator group were categorised and a grade was assigned to each *** create the final method-indicator matrix,each browsing-impact monitoring method received a grade for each parameter within all indicator groups,reflecting the specific advantages and disadvantages of implementing the respective parameter within a specific *** utility of the matrix in selecting the most suitable monitoring method was then demonstrated using the example of Germany's national *** on the weights added to the method-indicator matrix,as defined by national park representatives,and considering local requirements the nearest-tree method was favoured over the other two *** newly developed matrix provides a more scientific objectification of ungulate browsing-impact measures and can be easily used by forest man

This paper argues in favor of an Optimality Theory(OT)constraint hierarchy governing the phonotactics of nasal+obstruent clusters in *** paper shows that in careful speech English has a strong tendency favoring voiceless obstruents after nasals both in medial and coda positions,and retains a contrast between voiced and voiceless obstruents,as supported by statistical *** the paper proposes that,in English,the Optimality constraint IDENT-IO(ObsVce)dominates**** also show that in English voiced coronal stops are retained post-nasally,whereas voiced peripheral(labial and velar)stops are deleted(or,rather,not permitted).To explain this phenomenon,the paper proposes that the markedness constraint VOICED-CODA ranks between MAX-COR and MAX-PER,and the constraints IDENT-IO(ObsVce)and*VOICED-CODA work in tandem to result in the deletion of peripheral voiced *** shows that the same constraint hierarchy also applies to nasal+non-stop obstruent clusters,*** with fricatives and affricates,both medially and in final ***,It is pointed out that as language is changing,this is reflected in a changing constraint hierarchy as ****VOICEDCODA and*NO become higher ranked,this would cause either devoicing or deletion of voiced obstruents in the coda,or it would cause obstruents after nasals to become *** processes are found in faster,informal speech styles and may reflect change in progress.

Greenstone basalts and komatiites provide a means to track both mantle composition and magma generation temperature with time. Four types of mantle are characterized from incompatible element distributions in basalts and komatiites： depleted, hydrated, enriched and mantle from which komatiites are derived. Our most important observation is the recognition for the first time of what we refer to as a Great Thermal Divergence within the mantle beginning near the end of the Archean, which we ascribe to thermal and convective evolution. Prior to 2.5 Ga, depleted and enriched mantle have indistinguishable thermal histories, whereas at 2.5-2.0 Ga a divergence in mantle magma generation temperature begins between these two types of mantle. Major and incompatible element distributions and calculated magma generation temperatures suggest that Archean enriched mantle did not come from mantle plumes, but was part of an undifferentiated or well-mixed mantle similar in composition to calculated primitive mantle. During this time, however, high-temperature mantle plumes from dominantly depleted sources gave rise to komatiites and associated basalts. Recycling of oceanic crust into the deep mantle after the Archean may have contributed to enrichment ofTi, A1, Ca and Na in basalts derived from enriched mantle sources. After 2.5 Ga, increases in Mg# in basalts from depleted mantle and decreases in Fe and Mn reflect some combination of growing depletion and cooling of depleted mantle with time. A delay in cooling of depleted mantle until after the Archean probably reflects a combination of greater radiogenic heat sources in the Archean mantle and the propagation of plate tectonics after 3 Ga.

Colloidal quantum dots(QDs)are excellent optical gain materials that combine high material gain,a strong absorption of pump light,stability under strong light exposure and a suitability for solution-based *** integration of QDs in laser cavities that fully exploit the potential of these emerging optical materials remains,however,a *** this work,we report on a vertical cavity surface emitting laser,which consists of a thin film of QDs embedded between two layers of polymerized chiral liquid *** directed,circularly polarized defect mode lasing under nanosecond-pulsed excitation is demonstrated within the photonic band gap of the chiral liquid *** and long-term narrow-linewidth lasing of an exfoliated free-standing,flexible film under water is obtained at room ***,we show that the lasing wavelength of this flexible cavity shifts under influence of pressure,strain or *** such,the combination of solution processable and stable inorganic QDs with high chiral liquid crystal reflectivity and effective polymer encapsulation leads to a flexible device with long operational lifetime,that can be immersed in different protic solvents to act as a sensor.

Background: Weaning is known to result in barrier dysfunction and villus atrophy in the immediate post-weaning phase, and the magnitude of these responses is hypothesized to correlate with changes in the glutathione(GSH)redox system. Therefore, these parameters were simultaneously measured throughout the weaning phase, in piglets differing in birth weight category and weaning age, as these pre-weaning factors are important determinants for the weaning transition. Low birth weight(LBW) and normal birth weight(NBW) littermates were assigned to one of three weaning treatments;i.e. weaning at 3 weeks of age(3 w), weaning at 4 weeks of age(4 w) and removal from the sow at 3 d of age and fed a milk replacer until weaning at 3 weeks of age(3 d3 w). For each of these treatments, six LBW and six NBW piglets were euthanized at 0, 2, 5, 12 or 28 d post-weaning piglets, adding up 180 ***: Weaning increased the glutathione peroxidase activity on d 5 post-weaning in plasma, and duodenal and jejunal mucosa. Small intestinal glutathione-S-transferase activity gradually increased until d 12 post-weaning, and this was combined with a progressive rise of mucosal GSH up till d 12 post-weaning. Oxidation of the GSH redox status(GSH/GSSG Eh) was only observed in the small intestinal mucosa of 3 d3 w weaned piglets at d 5 postweaning. These piglets also demonstrated increased fluorescein isothiocyanate dextran(FD4) and horseradish peroxidase fluxes in the duodenum and distal jejunum during the experiment, and specifically demonstrated increased FD4 fluxes at d 2 to d 5 post-weaning. On the other hand, profound villus atrophy was observed during the weaning transition for all weaning treatments. In the context of ongoing densification of cities and aging urban populations,public spaces are a crucial infrastructure to support the physical and mental wellbeing of urban *** design of public space furniture elements is often standardised,and not considered in relation to environmental conditions and mechanisms of social *** article presents a digital workflow to generate site-specific designs for shaded public seating,considering the relationships of local public places to their surroundings.A strategy for customised and site-specific design is developed through the use of multiple software tools,employing evolutionary algorithms and multi-objective *** method is applied to a small public space canopy prototype installed within a public housing estate in Hong Kong,incorporating additional criteria to achieve a low-cost and light-weight *** multiple stages of refinement and optimisation,a material,structural and social performance-driven outcome was achieved that creates a shaded space for public seating,people watching and social *** part of a larger research agenda exploring architectural form-finding and environmental psychology,the project represents potential new applications in the emerging field of socially driven computational design.
