The evaluation of scale effects on modeling performance of sedimentgraphs as the ultimate outputs of the hydrological simulation is vital for adaptive watershed *** present study therefore analyzed effectability of simulated sedimentgraphs components in association with different topographic maps with various vector *** whole procedure was materialized to select the critical scale and cell size for the Galazchai Watershed,*** this end,the stormwise sedimentgraphs were modeled for 23 recorded events using the Clark's Instantaneous Unit Hydrograph (IUH) model stemmed for developing Instantaneous Unit Sedimentgraphs (IUSGs) incorporated with dimensionless sediment concentTation distribution (DSCD) based on the vector scales of 1∶25000,1∶50000,1∶100000 and 1∶250000 and cell sizes of 5,10,20 30,50,100 and 200 *** 644 direct sedimentgraphs (DSGs) were then evaluated based on Relative Errors (REs) for sediment volume,peak sediment,time to peak,base time and the Coefficient of Efficiency (CE).The results confirmed that REs for peak sediment,time to peak and CE were sensitive to cell *** results further verified that the cell sizes of 5,20,30,50 and 100 m were critical cell sizes in viewpoint of time to *** addition,the vector scales of 1∶50000 with cell size of 50 m,and 1∶100000 with cell sizes of 5 and 10 m were critical vector scales and cell sizes based on RmSE evaluation *** is concluded from the current research that the accuracy of simulation of sedimentgraph was influenced by map scales and mesh sizes.

Gripping devices help patients carry out everyday tasks and increase their ***,there seems to be a lack of bionic gripping technologies that can fully adapt to any possible shape,as the use of artificial fingers and predetermined grip settings limits the operating *** development of a more agile device,which is operated by a simple control paradigm,could greatly benefit *** electrorheological(ER)fluid system should be able to adapt to the shape of an object and then hold that *** aim of this study was to explore if a conceptual prototype of an ER system could hold a geometric shape when it is activated.A test rig was constructed with a moving part(set in different silicone oils)that could be displaced using a *** particles were dispersed in the silicone oils,and a field with a voltage of 4 kV mm?1 was generated to activate the *** results show that the developed system can support an increased force when activated and hold a simple geometric position without any noticeable *** outcome provides an initial proof of concept for a possible new(gravity-assisted)gripping approach using smart fluids,which could be developed with materials that are biocompatible and widely available.

The efficacy and effectiveness of machine learning for weaning in mechanically ventilated patients at the intensive care unit: a systematic review

Weani ng from mechanical ventilation in the in tensive care unit (ICU) is a complex clinical problem and relevant for future organ engineering. Prolonged mechanical ventilation (mV) leads to a range of medical complications that increases length of stay and costs as well as contributes to morbidity and even mortality and long-term quality of life. The need to reduce mV is both clinical and economical. Artificial intelligence or machine learning (mL) methods are promising opportunities to positively influence patient outcomes. mL methods have been proposed to enhance clinical decisions processes by using the large amount of digital information generated in the ICU setting. There is a particular interest in empirical methods (such as mL) to improve management of "difficult-to-wean" patients, due to the associated costs and adverse events associated with this population. A systematic literature search was performed using the OVID, IEEEXplore, Pubmed, and Web of Science databases. All publications that included (1) the application of mL to weaning from mV in the ICU and (2) a clinical outcome measurement were reviewed. A checklist to assess the study quality of medical mL publications was modified to suit the critical assessment of mL in mV weaning literature. The systematic search identified nine studies that used mL for weaning management from mV in critical care. The weaning management application areas included (1) prediction of successful spontaneous breathing trials (SBTs),(2) prediction of successful extubation,(3) prediction of arterial blood gases, and (4) ventilator setting and oxygenation-adjustment advisory systems. Seven of the nine studies scored seven out of eight on the quality index. The remaining two of the nine studies scored one out of eight on the quality index. Functional attributes： Compacting vs decompacting earth- worms and influence on soil structure

A short term field mesocosm experiment was performed in semi-deciduous forest areas of Ivory Coast to assess the impact of a decompacting （Hyperiodrilus africanus, Eudrilidae） and two compacting （millsonia omodeoi and Dichogaster terrae nigrae, Acanthodrilidae） earthworm species on soil properties. These species have been selected for their predominance in the re- gion and their contrasting impact on soil structure. The experimental design consisted of a treatment without worms （control）, and treatments with one, two or three species of earthworms. Both compacting and decompacting earthworms increased water infil- tration rate in all treatments, with marked impact in H. africanus and m. omodeoi＋D, terraenigrae treatments. Interactions be- tween compacting and decompacting species resulted in more large aggregates in comparison to when the compacting species D. terraenigrae was alone. This may be accounted for by their compacting attribute as compacting earthworms are responsible for producing the highest number of large aggregates. The low values of mean weight diameter in treatments combining decompact-ing and compacting earthworms compared with compacting ＂m. omodeoi＂ one also confirmed the trend of decline in soil com-paction in the presence of the decompacting species. These results showed positive impact of species richness on soil structure regulation, which is crucial in ecosystem productivity and support consequently the insurance hypothesis. In fact, this study showed that the preservation of earthworm species belonging to these two contrasting functional groups is essential for the main-tenance of stable soil structure regulation in agro-tropical ecosystems.

The particles of heterogeneous catalysts differ greatly in size,morphology,and most importantly,in *** these catalyst particles in batch typically results in ensemble averages,without any information at the level of individual catalyst *** date,the study of individual catalyst particles has been rewarding but is stll rather slow and often ***,these valuable in-depth studies at the single particle level lack statistical ***,we report the development of a droplet microreactor for high-throughput fluorescence-based measurements of the acidities of individual particles in fluid catalytic cracking(FCC)equilibrium catalysts(ECAT).This method combines systematic screening of single catalyst particles with statistical *** oligomerization reaction of 4-methoxystyrene,catalyzed by the Bronsted acid sites inside the zeolite domains of the ECAT particles,Was performed on-chip at 95 ℃.The fluorescence signal generated by the reaction products inside the ECAT particles was detected near the outlet of the *** high-throughput acidity screening platform was capable of detecting~1000 catalyst particles at a rate of 1 catalyst particle every 2.4 *** number of detected catalyst particles was representative of the overall catalyst particle population with a confidence level of 95%.The measured fluorescence intensities showed a clear acidity distribution among the catalyst particles,with the majority(96.1%)showing acidity levels belonging to old,deactivated catalyst particles and a minority(3.9%)exhibiting high acidity *** latter are potentially of high interest,as they reveal interesting new physicochemical properties indicating why the particles were still highly acidic and reactive.

Rock crevices determine woody and herbaceous plant cover in the karst critical zone

The study of the critical zones(CZs) of the Earth link the composition and function of aboveground vegetation with the characteristics of the rock layers, providing a new way to study how the unique rock and soil conditions in karst regions affect the aboveground vegetation. Based on survey results of the rocks, soils and vegetation in the dolomite and limestone distribution areas in the karst area of central Guizhou, it was found that woody plant cover increases linearly with the number of cracks with a width of more than 1 mm, while the cover of herbaceous plants shows the opposite trend(pmite distribution area is characterized by undeveloped crevices, and the thickness of the soil layer is generally less than 20 cm, which is suitable for the distribution of herbaceous plants with shallow roots. Due to the development of crevices in the limestone distribution area, the soil is deeply distributed through the crevices for the deep roots of trees, which leads to a diversified species composition and a complicated structure in the aboveground vegetation. Based on moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer(mODIS) remote sensing data from 2001 to 2010, the normalized differentiated vegetation index(NDVI) and annual net primary productivity(NPP) results for each phase of a 16-day interval further indicate that the NDVI of the limestone distribution area is significantly higher than that in the dolomite distribution area, but the average annual NPP is the opposite. The results of this paper indicate that in karst CZs, the lithology determines the structure and distribution of the soil, which further determines the cover of woody and herbaceous plants in the aboveground vegetation. Although the amount of soil in the limestone area may be less than that in the dolomite area, the developed crevice structure is more suitable for the growth of trees with deep roots, and the vegetation activity is strong. Evaluation of 1031 primary titanium nitride coated mobile bearing total knee arthroplasties in an orthopedic clinic

AIm To evaluate the influence of the titanium nitride(TiN) coating on the results of a total knee arthroplasty(TKA). mETHODS A total of 910 patients(338 men; 572 woman), with a mean age of 65(range 36-94) undergoing 1031 primary TKAs were assessed. Clinical evaluation and patientreported outcomes were gathered one year after surgery. The questionnaires included the Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score(KOOS)-Dutch version, Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) pain scores in rest and during active knee movement, VAS-satisfaction scores, and EQ-5 D-3 L health scores. This was aimed to assess the overall knee function and patient satisfaction, and to enable us to make a gross comparison to other *** At a mean follow-up of 46 mo(range 1-92) the overall implant survival was 97.7% and 95.1% for any operative reason related to the implant. Twenty-three knees(2.2%) required revision surgery. Arthrofibrosis was the most common indication for a re-operation. The clinical evaluation and patient-reported outcomes revealed good to excellent patient satisfaction and function of the arthroplasty. The median postoperative VAS-pain scores on a scale of 0-100, at one year after surgery were 1 in rest and 2 during *** The Ti N coated, mobile bearing TKA results are excellent and similar to those of other widely used TKA designs. Residual pain of the knee remains a concern and the Ti N coating in combination with the mobile bearing does not seem to be the simple solution to this problem. Future research will have to show that the coating gives a better survival than the cobalt chrome version.
