LC–UV/mS quality analytics of paediatricartemether formulations

A highly selective and stability-indicating HPLC-method, combined with appropriate sample preparation steps, is developed for β-artemether assay and profiling of related impurities, including possible degradants, in a complex powder for oral suspension. Following HPLC conditions allowed the required selectivity： a Prevail organic acid （OA） column （250 mm＆#215;4.6 mm, 5μm）, flow rate set at 1.5 mL/min combined with a linear gradient （where A ？ 25 mm phosphate buffer （pH 2.5）, and B ？ acetonitrile） from 30% to 75% B in a runtime of 60 min. Quantitative UV-detection was performed at 210 nm. Acetonitrile was applied as extraction solvent for sample preparation. Using acetonitrile-water mixtures as extraction solvent, a compartmental behaviour by a non-solving excipient-bound fraction and an artemether-solubilising free fraction of solvent was demonstrated, making a mobile phase based extraction not a good choice. method validation showed that the developed HPLC-method is considered to be suitable for its intended regulatory stability-quality characterisation of β-artemether paediatric formulations. Furthermore, LC-mS on references as well as on stability samples was performed allowing identity confirmation of the β-artemether related impurities. mS-fragmentation scheme of β-artemether and its related substances is proposed, explaining the m/z values of the in-source fragments obtained.

Improved child, newborn, and maternal health(CNm) is a top priority in developing countries. many factors must be addressed simultaneously to improve clinical outcomes for CNm. A public-private project in Haiti that will deploy the World Health Organization(WHO) evidence-based medicine(EBm) and essential interventions utilizing CNm healthcare technologies(HT), is expected to be a model for improving national health systems. The CNm mortality rates in Haiti are the highest in the western hemisphere with rates similar to those found in Afghanistan and several African countries. Several factors perpetuating this crisis are noted, as well as the most cost-effective interventions proven to decrease CNm mortality rates in low-and middle-income countries. To create major change in health system infrastructure, two strategies are presented, requiring appropriate and leading-edge health technologies(HT), e.g., wireless cellular-network-based Telemedicine(Tm):(1) Development of a countrywide network of geographical "Community Care Grids" to facilitate implementation of frontline interventions;(2) The construction of a central hospital(called Bethesda Referral and Teaching Hospital-BRTH NGO) that will provide secondary and tertiary care for communities throughout the country, including helping local hospitals and clinics practice EBm care. We believe that these strategies-supported by HT will fast track improvement in CNm mortality rates throughout the country and that in a relatively short period of time Haiti's health care system will be among the leaders in the region. Primary factors contributing to the CNm crisis, all addressed by Tm:(1) Limited access: demographics, geography, cost, transportation;(2) Inadequate health care facilities: less than 20 NICU beds for 10 million population; BRTH to provide 80 bed NICU and 40 bed PICU in 225 bed hospital;(3) Health care practitioners: inadequate numbers and training;(4) Low % of skilled attendants now at deliveries;(5) Low % of

＜正＞All CANDU plants were built using equipment supplied by a core group of about350 manufacturers. Spare parts required maintaining CANDU plants are generallysupplied by the same group of suppliers. When one CANDU plant faces problems inspecifying and acquiring spare parts for a particular system from one or more of thesemanufacturers （through obsolescence, loss of QA program, change in product design,etc.）, chances are that the other CANDU plants will experience, or have alreadyexperienced, similar problems. Solutions to these problems have generic elementsthat are applicable to all CANDU plants. Procurement Engineering （PE） services to prepare product procurementspecifications （PPS） used to purchase spare and replacement equipment and materialsare needed by all CANDU plants. Indeed, all Nuclear plants have this requirement. Todate, each CANDU plant has been left to their own devices, and each of them hasdeveloped their own PE or Design organization. In turn, each of these organizations hasPPS’s that they use to acquire spares, replacement equipment, and parts. However thespecifications developed by one PE organization vary significantly from thespecifications developed by others. When PE organizations encounter difficultproblems （obsolescence, loss of QA program, change in design, etc.） they often developwidely differing solutions. It would be more cost effective if all CANDU plants were todevelop PPS’s that were similar in style and content. PPS’s developed by CNUS meet applicable Nuclear Regulatory Requirements andare formulated utilizing EPRI best practices. When CNUS develops a PPS for oneCANDU plant, the common elements of that PPS are utilized in the documents forother CANDU plants. This occurs because CNUS develops generic or root PPS’s foreach product line/supply source. Yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) and Lutetium aluminum garnet (LuAG) doped with Ce3+ are widely applied phosphor powders or ceramics for the conversion of blue into green to yellow light in the rapidly expanding market of white light emitting high power LEDs. Surprisingly, the temperature dependent reflection and excitation spectra of these well-established materials have not been investigated until today. In this work, we report the temperature dependence of the reflection and excitation spectra of Ce3+ doped YAG and LuAG in the temperature range from 300 to 800 K.

The Association of Night Shift Work with the Development of Breast Cancer in Women

Breast cancer is a serious public health concern in South Africa and globally. It is estimated that one in seven South Africans will develop cancer in their lifetime. According to a case-controlled study, 80% of cancer cases are thought to be due to external, non-inherited factors, which could potentially have been prevented. The objectives of the current case-control study were: 1) to determine the relationship between night shift work and the development of breast cancer;2) to explore the relationship between night shift work and other types of cancer;3) to explore any difference between night shift work and breast cancer, and night shift work and other types of cancer. A total of 106 research participants were selected using non-probability, convenience sampling methods and interviewed using a structured questionnaire. Seventy-two (68%) of the women who were interviewed were black, while 32% (n = 35) were white. Of the 106 research participants, 82% (n = 87) had a history of being employed, while 18% (n = 19) had never been employed. Analysed data showed that 29% (n = 31) of the women had a history of working night shift. Of the 31 research participants who reported having worked night shift, 90% (n = 28) had actually done rotating shift work, rather than regular night shift work. The odds ratio of working night shift was found to be 1.24 (OR = 1.24, p = 0.615) higher in breast cancer research participants compared to research participants diagnosed with other types of cancer—odds ratio of 0.80 (p = 0.610). For rotational work, the OR was 1.445, indicating a higher risk than for shift work. It is recommended that the relationship between working night shift and breast cancer risk be explored further through cross-sectional and cohort studies.

The particles of heterogeneous catalysts differ greatly in size,morphology,and most importantly,in *** these catalyst particles in batch typically results in ensemble averages,without any information at the level of individual catalyst *** date,the study of individual catalyst particles has been rewarding but is stll rather slow and often ***,these valuable in-depth studies at the single particle level lack statistical ***,we report the development of a droplet microreactor for high-throughput fluorescence-based measurements of the acidities of individual particles in fluid catalytic cracking(FCC)equilibrium catalysts(ECAT).This method combines systematic screening of single catalyst particles with statistical *** oligomerization reaction of 4-methoxystyrene,catalyzed by the Bronsted acid sites inside the zeolite domains of the ECAT particles,Was performed on-chip at 95 ℃.The fluorescence signal generated by the reaction products inside the ECAT particles was detected near the outlet of the *** high-throughput acidity screening platform was capable of detecting~1000 catalyst particles at a rate of 1 catalyst particle every 2.4 *** number of detected catalyst particles was representative of the overall catalyst particle population with a confidence level of 95%.The measured fluorescence intensities showed a clear acidity distribution among the catalyst particles,with the majority(96.1%)showing acidity levels belonging to old,deactivated catalyst particles and a minority(3.9%)exhibiting high acidity *** latter are potentially of high interest,as they reveal interesting new physicochemical properties indicating why the particles were still highly acidic and reactive.

Binding Ability of Corn Cobs Hemicellulose toward Cadmium

Non-Starch Polysaccahride (NSP) is an agricultural byproduct containing of cellulose, hemicelluloses, and lignin. Hemicellulose has a hydroxyl functional group and carboxylic function on the monomer hemicellulose used as a binding ability for cadmium ion and hence as a pharmaceutical active ingredient to prevent cadmium toxicity. The purpose of this study is to isolate and evaluate hemicelluloses from corn cobs as a binding ability toward cadmium ion. The study is conducted by isolating the corn cobs in such way using 0.2 m NaOH, characterization of hemicellulose from corn cobs produced by Infra Red Spectrofotometry. Binding ability of corn cobs hemicellulose (CCH) was done in 3 ways. The first, it was by titrimetric with cadmium 3 mg/cm3 as a titrant and indicator of 0.05 N NaOH. The second, it was by in vitro test at pH 2 as a comparison to use pectin. The third, the in vivo test was conducted in 3 variations of treatment covering CCH 10 mg, 100 mcg of cadmium for 10 weeks. Assay of cadmium was conducted using atomic absorption spectrophotometry with flame at a wavelength of 228.8 nm. The research result showed that the highest yield of hemicellulose (12.04%) was obtained from delignication with 0.03 m NaOH in 60% ethanol and 3% H2O2, hemicellulose isolation with 500 cm3 of 0.2 m NaOH, and precipitation with 1:4 ratio of 10% acetic acid in 95% ethanol. Characteristics of CCH on infrared vibration methods provide vibrational hemicellulose in the region of 1820-1600 cm-1. It meant that the functional group carbonyl was present, and the vibration widened near 3400-2400 cm-1. It indicated that there was the functional group vibration region of hydroxyl. It also meant that there was carboxylic group and finger print at 1500-500 cm-1. Test results of the titrimetric holding ability showed that CCH was binding 100 mg of cadmium (46.17 ± 0.9256) mg or 46.17%. Binding ability test results at pH 2 showed that 300 mg of CCH yield was binding 30 mg cadmium of (26.68 ± 0.1490)

Evolution of the Internet AS-level topology:From nodes and edges to components

Studying the topology of infrastructure communication networks(e.g., the Internet) has become a means to understand and develop complex systems. Therefore, investigating the evolution of Internet network topology might elucidate disciplines governing the dynamic process of complex systems. It may also contribute to a more intelligent communication network framework based on its autonomous behavior. In this paper, the Internet Autonomous Systems(ASes) topology from 1998 to 2013 was studied by deconstructing and analysing topological entities on three different scales(i.e., nodes,edges and 3 network components: single-edge component m1, binary component m2 and triangle component m3). The results indicate that: a) 95% of the Internet edges are internal edges(as opposed to external and boundary edges); b) the Internet network consists mainly of internal components, particularly m2 internal components; c) in most cases, a node initially connects with multiple nodes to form an m2 component to take part in the network; d) the Internet network evolves to lower entropy. Furthermore, we find that, as a complex system, the evolution of the Internet exhibits a behavioral series,which is similar to the biological phenomena concerned with the study on metabolism and replication. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study of the evolution of the Internet network through analysis of dynamic features of its nodes,edges and components, and therefore our study represents an innovative approach to the subject.

Value of a comprehensive geriatric assessment for predicting one-year outcomes in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation: results from the CGA-TAVI multicentre registry

Background In a three-month report from the CGA-TAVI registry, we found the multidimensional Prognostic Index (mPI) and Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) to be of value for predicting short-term outcomes in elderly patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). In the present analysis, we examined the association of these tools with outcomes up to one year post-TAVI. methods CGA-TAVI is an international, observational registry of geriatric patients undergoing TAVI. Patients were assessed using the mPI and SPPB. Efficacy of baseline values and any postoperative change for predicting outcome were established using logistic regression. Kaplan- meier analysis was carried out for each comprehensive geriatric assessment tool, with survival stratified by risk category. Results One year after TAVI, 14.1% of patients deceased, while 17.4% met the combined endpoint of death and/or non-fatal stroke, and 37.7% the combined endpoint of death and/or hospitalisation and/or non-fatal stroke. A high-risk mPI score was associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality (aOR = 36.13, 95% CI: 2.77–470.78, P = 0.006) and death and/or non-fatal stroke (aOR = 10.10, 95% CI: 1.48–68.75, P = 0.018). No significant associations were found between a high-risk SPPB score and mortality or two main combined endpoints. In contrast to a worsening SPPB, an aggravating mPI score at three months post-TAVI was associated with an increased risk of death and/or non-fatal stoke at one year (aOR = 95.16, 95% CI: 3.41–2657.01). Conclusions The mPI showed value for predicting the likelihood of death and a combination of death and/or non-fatal stroke by one year after TAVI in elderly patients.

One-Year Outcomes of Women Started on Antiretroviral Therapy during Pregnancy before and after the Implementation of Option B+ in malawi: A Retrospective Chart Review from Three Facilities

Objective: To compare one-year outcomes of women started on antiretroviral therapy (ART) during?pregnancy in the pre-Option B+ era to those in the Option B+ era. methods: A retrospective chart review was performed at three sites in malawi. Women were included in the “pre-Option B+” cohort if they started ART during pregnancy for a CD4 count 3?or WHO 3/4 condition and in the “Option B+” cohort if they started ART during pregnancy regardless of CD4 count or clinical stage. One-year outcomes were compared using Fisher’s exact and ANOVA F-tests. Results: A higher proportion of women in the pre-Option B+ cohort started ART at WHO stage 3/4 (11.9% versus 1.1%, P mens (5.9% versus 0%, P = 0.002), or died in the first year after starting treatment (3.9% versus 0.5%, P = 0.05). While more women in the Option B+ cohort had poor adherence or defaulted, these differences were not significant. Conclusions: At our study sites, the transition to Option B+ has been associated with ART initiation in women with less advanced HIV infection, improved medication tolerability, and lower mortality. Further research is needed to better understand outcomes of Option B+.
