Lithospheric thinning and ignition of a Cordilleran magmatic flare-up:Geochemical and O-Hf isotopic constraints from Cretaceous plutons in southern Korea

Northeast Asian continental margins contain the products of magma emplacement driven by prolonged subduction of the(paleo-)Pacific *** observed in many Cordilleran arcs,magmatic evolution in this area was punctuated by high-volume pulses amid background *** present study investigates the early evolution of the Cretaceous magmatic flare-up using new and published geochronological,geochemical,and O-Hf isotope data from plutonic rocks in the southern Korean *** a long(~50 m.y.)magmatic hiatus and the development of the Honam Shear Zone through flat-slab subduction,the Cretaceous flare-up began with the intrusion of monzonites,granodiorites,and granites in the inboard Gyeonggi Massif and the intervening Okcheon *** to Jurassic granitoids formed during the former flare-up,Albian(~111 Ma)monzonites found in the Eopyeong area of the Okcheon Belt have distinctly higher zirconε_(Hf)(t)(-7.5±1.3)andδ^(18)O(7.78‰±0.25‰)values and lower wholerock La/Yb and Sr/Y *** voluminous coeval granodiorite and granite plutons in the Gyeonggi Massif are further reduced in Sr/Y and to a lesser extent,in La/Yb,and have higher zirconε_(Hf)(t)values(-13 to-19)than the Precambrian basement(ca.-30).These chemical and isotopic features indicate that Early Cretaceous lithospheric thinning,most likely resulting from delamination of tectonically and magmatically overthickened lithospheric keel that was metasomatized during prior subduction episodes,and consequent asthenospheric upwelling played vital roles in igniting the magmatic *** O-Hf isotopic ranges of synmagmatic zircons from the Albian plutons and their Paleoproterozoic and Jurassic inheritance attest to the involvement of lithospheric mantle and crustal basement in magma generation during this decratonization *** magmatism then migrated trenchward and culminated in the Late Cretaceous,yielding widespread granitoid rocks emplaced at shallow crustal *** early Late Cretaceous(94-8

Role of a wireless surface electromyography in dystonic gait in functional movement disorders: A case report

BACKGROUND Dystonic gait(DG) is one of clinical symptoms associated with functional dystonia in the functional movement disorders(FMDs). Dystonia is often initiated or worsened by voluntary action and associated with overflow muscle activation. There is no report for DG in FMDs caused by an abnormal pattern in the ankle muscle recruitment strategy during *** SUMMARY A 52-year-old male patient presented with persistent limping gait. When we requested him to do dorsiflexion and plantar flexion of his ankle in the standing and seating positions, we didn’t see any abnormality. However, we could see the DG during the gait. There were no evidences of common peroneal neuropathy and L5 radiculopathy in the electrodiagnostic study. Magnetic resonance imaging of the lumbar spine, lower leg, and brain had no definite finding. No specific finding was seen in the neurologic examination. For further evaluation, a wireless surface electromyography(EMG) was performed. During the gait, EMG amplitude of left medial and lateral gastrocnemius(GCM) muscles was larger than right medial and lateral GCM muscles. When we analyzed EMG signals for each muscle, there were EMG bursts of double-contraction in the left medial and lateral GCM muscles, while EMG analysis of right medial and lateral GCM muscles noted regular bursts of single contraction. We could find a cause of DG in *** We report an importance of a wireless surface EMG, in which other examination didn’t reveal the cause of DG in FMDs.

Conductive inks based on graphene materials have received significant attention for the fabrication of a wide range of printed and flexible ***,the application of graphene fillers is limited by their restricted mass production and the low concentration of their *** this study,a highly concentrated and conductive ink based on defect-free graphene was developed by a scalable fluid dynamics process.A high shear exfoliation and mixing process enabled the production of graphene at a high concentration of 47.5 mg mL^(−1)for graphene *** screen-printed graphene conductor exhibits a high electrical conductivity of 1.49×10^(4)S m^(−1)and maintains high conductivity under mechanical bending,compressing,and fatigue *** on the as-prepared graphene ink,a printed electrochemical sodium ion(Na^(+))sensor that shows high potentiometric sensing performance was ***,by integrating a wireless electronic module,a prototype Na^(+)-sensing watch is demonstrated for the real-time monitoring of the sodium ion concentration in human sweat during the indoor exercise of a *** scalable and efficient procedure for the preparation of graphene ink presented in this work is very promising for the low-cost,reproducible,and large-scale printing of flexible and wearable electronic devices.

Regulation of the Li_(2)CO_(3) byproduct is the most critical challenge in the field of non-aqueous Li–O_(2) *** considerable efforts have been devoted to preventing Li_(2)CO_(3) formation,no approaches have suggested the ultimate solution of utilizing the clean Li_(2)O_(2) reaction instead of that of Li_(2)CO_(3).Even if extremely pure O_(2) is used in a Li–O_(2) cell,its complete elimination is impossible,eventually generating CO_(2) gas during *** this paper,we present the new concept of a CO_(2)-adsorbent spongy electrode(CASE),which is designed to trap the evolved CO_(2) using adsorption *** candidates composed of amine functional groups(–NH2)for capturing CO_(2) were screened,with quadrapurebenzylamine(QPBZA)exhibiting superior CO_(2)-adsorbing ability among the proposed ***,we fabricated the CASE by sandwiching QPBZA between porous carbon layers,which facilitated the transport of gaseous *** new electrode was demonstrated to effectively capture the evolved CO_(2) during charge,therefore altering the reaction pathways to the ideal *** is highly advantageous to mitigate the undesirable CO_(2) incorporation in the next discharge,resulting in improved *** novel concept of a CO_(2)-sponging electrode provides an alternative route to the realization of practically meaningful Li–O_(2) batteries.

Point-defect engineering of nanoporous CuBi_(2)O_(4) photocathode via rapid thermal processing for enhanced photoelectrochemical activity

Engineering point defects such as metal and oxygen vacancies play a crucial role in manipulating the electrical,optical,and catalytic properties of oxide semiconductors for solar water ***,we synthesized nanoporous CuBi_(2)O_(4)(np-CBO)photocathodes and engineered their surface point defects via rapid thermal processing(RTP)in controlled atmospheres(O_(2),N_(2),and vacuum).We found that the O_(2)-RTP treatment of np-CBO increased the charge carrier density effectively without hampering the nanoporous morphology,which was attributed to the formation of copper vacancies(VCu).Further analyses revealed that the amounts of oxygen vacancies(Vo)and Cu^(1+)were reduced simultaneously,and the relative electrochemical active surface area increased after the O_(2)-RTP ***,the point defects(VC_(u),Cu^(1+),and Vo)regulated np-CBO achieved a superb water-splitting photocurrent density of-1.81 m A cm^(-2) under simulated sunlight illumination,which is attributed to the enhanced charge transport and transfer properties resulting from the regulated surface point ***,the reversibility of the formation of the point defects was checked by sequential RTP treatments(O_(2)-N_(2)-O_(2)-N_(2)),demonstrating the strong dependence of photocurrent response on the RTP ***,the surface point defect engineering via RTP treatment in a controlled atmosphere is a rapid and facile strategy to promote charge transport and transfer properties of photoelectrodes for efficient solar water-splitting.

An Efficient Organic Additive to Control the Crystallization Rate of Aliphatic Polyketone: A Non-isothermal Crystallization kinetics Study

Three types of organic compounds--two carboxylic acids and an anhydride, were used as additives for polyketone （PK）. The effect of the additive structure and their feed ratios on the melting temperature, crystallization temperature, and crystallization rate of PK were studied. We found that the crystallization temperature could be reduced significantly by introducing a small quantity of organic additive, in particular, an anhydride. On addition of 1 phr of anhydride, the crystallization temperature was reduced by 10.7 ℃. Therefore, the non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of aliphatic PKJanhydride blends with various feed ratios was investigated using DSC. The results were analyzed by various theoretical models, such as Avrami, Ozawa and combined Avrami-Ozawa models.

Association between Occupational Change Trajectories and Mental Health: Results from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging

Objectives:This study was to longitudinally investigate the association between occupational change trajectories and mental health in the Korean population aged 45 years and older from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging(KLo-SA).Methods:After excluding missing values,the data of 6,224 participants from thefirst to eighth waves of the KLo-SA were analyzed using t-test,Analysis of variance(ANOVA),Group-based Trajectory Model(GBTM)from 1–5th KLoSA and Time-Lagged Generalized estimating equation(GEE)model from 5–8th KLoSA to analyze the association between occupational change trajectories and mental health in the Korean population aged 45 years and ***:An analysis of the association between occupational change trajectories and mental health demonstrated that,among all age group,the“sustained in unemployment”group had a worse MMSE and CESD score compared to“sustained WC”*** the under-54 age group,those aged≥55 years demonstrated reductions in the MMSE and CESD scores in the sustained unemployment and the changed working condition from Standard BC to Unemployment groups,whereas those who underwent a change from the Standard WC to unemployment group only demonstrated a reduction in MMSE ***:There was a close relationship between occupational change trajectories and mental ***,this study can serve as the foundation for policies and institutional measures to manage the deteriorate mental health in the late middle-aged and older population.

Ionizing radiation is one of the most effective tools in cancer therapy. In a previous study, we reported that protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) inhibitors modulate the radiation responses in the human chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) cell line K562. The receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor, genistein, delayed radiation-induced cell death, while non-recepter tyrosine kinase inhibitor, herbimycin A (HMA) enhances radiation-induced apoptosis. In this study, we focused on the modulation of radiation-induced cell death by genistein and performed PCR-select suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) to understand its molecular mechanism. We identified human thymidine kinase 1 (TK1), which is cell cycle regulatory gene and confirmed expression of TK1 mRNA by Northern blot analysis. Expression of TKl mRNA and TK1 enzymatic activity were parallel in their increase and decrease. TK1 is involved in G1-S phase transition of cell cycle progression. Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common primary hepatic malignant *** widespread use of liver imaging,various cirrhosis-related nodules are frequently detected in patients with chronic liver disease,while diverse hypervascular hepatic lesions are incidentally detected but undiagnosed on dynamic computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).However,use of hepatocyte-specific MR contrast agents with combined perfusion and hepatocyte-selective properties have improved diagnostic performance in detection and characterization of focal liver ***,the enhancement patterns observed during dynamic phases using hepatocyte-specific agents may be different from those observed during MRI using conventional extracellular fluid agents,leading to confusion in ***,we discuss useful tips for the differentiation of hepatocellular carcinoma from similar lesions in patients with and without chronic liver disease using liver MRI with hepatocyte-specific agents.

β-Arrestin 2 suppresses the activation of YAP by promoting LATS kinase activity

Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway has been frequently identified in various human cancers. The Hippo pathway is a highly complex pathway involving multiple types of proteins, and the activation of YAP by LATS kinase is the final effector step in the transcription process. In this study, we linked the roles of the multifunctional adapter proteins β-arrestins (β-arrestin 1 and 2) in cooperation with other signaling pathways such as GPCR and Wnt to essential cellular functions involved in carcinogenesis, including the regulation of cell proliferation, migration, and differentiation as well as stem cell properties.1 Although β-arrestin 1 and 2 have high structural similarities, they have different roles in carcinogenesis as β-arrestin 1 aids cancer cell survival and metastasis2 and β-arrestin 2 inhibits tumor growth.1 In the Hippo signaling pathway, β-arrestins function as scaffold proteins that mediate the phosphorylation of key molecules, and their association with human cancers is a major research topic. In this study, we demonstrated that β-arrestin 2 inhibits YAP activation through the formation of the β-arrestin 2-LATS-YAP trimeric complex, which results in the promotion of the kinase activity of LATS in cancer cell lines and patient-derived colon cancer organoids.
