Changes in spatial variations of sap flow in Korean pine trees due to environmental factors and their effects on estimates of stand transpiration

It is difficult to scale up measurements of the sap flux density(J_S) for the characterization of tree or stand transpiration(E) due to spatial variations in J_S and their temporal *** assess spatial variations in the sap flux density of Korean pine(Pinus koraiensis) and their effects on E estimates,we measured the J_S using Granier-type *** trees,the J_S decreased exponentially with the radial depth,and the J_S of the east aspects were higher than those of the west *** trees,there was a positive relationship between J_S and the tree diameter at breast height,and this positive relationship became stronger as the transpiration demand *** spatial variations that caused large errors in E estimates(i.e.,up to 110.8 % when radial variation was ignored) had varied systematically with environmental factors systematic characteristics in relation to environmental ***,changes in these variations did not generate substantial errors in the E *** our study periods,the differences in the daily E(E_D) calculated by ignoring radial,azimuthal and tree-to-tree variations and the measured E_D were fairly constant,especially when the daily vapor pressure deficit(D_D)was higher than 0.6 k *** results imply that the effect of spatial variations changes on sap flow can be a minor source of error compared with spatial variations(radial,azimuthal and tree-to-tree variations) when considering E estimates.

AIM：To investigate the incidence and general characteristics of sports-related eye injuries in patients visiting the Emergency Department. The epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)pathway plays an important role in the progression of colorectal cancer(CRC).Anti-EGFR drugs based on antibodies have been widely used for treating CRC through inducing the cell death ***,the majority of CRC patients will inevitably develop drug-resistance during anti-EGFR drug treatment,which is mainly caused by a point mutation in the KRAS *** developed a nanoliposomal(NL)particle containing the Cas9 protein and a single-guide RNA(sgRNA)complex(Cas9-RNP),for genomic editing of the KRAS *** NL particle is composed of bio-compatible lipid compounds that can effectively encapsulate *** modifying the NL particle to include the appropriate antibody,it can specifically recognize EGFR expressing CRC and effectively deliver the gene-editing *** conditions of NL treatment were optimized using a KRAS mutated CRC in vivo mouse *** with KRAS-mutated CRC showed drug resistance against cetuximab,a therapeutic antibody *** treating the mice with the KRAS gene-editing NL particles,the implanted tumors showed a dramatic decrease in *** results demonstrated that this genomic editing complex has great potential as a therapeutic carrier system for the treatment of drug-resistant cancer caused by a point mutation.

BACKGROUND： Bilateral stent-in-stent （SIS） self-expandable metal stent placement is technically chghallenging for palliation of unresectable malignant hilar obstruction. In the SIS technique, the uniform large cell type biliary stent facilitates contralateral stent deployment through the mesh of the first metallic stent. This study aimed to assess the technical success and clinical effectiveness of this technique with a uniform large cell type biliary stent. METHODS： Thirty-one patients who underwentlbilateral SIS placement using a large cell type stent were reviewed retrospectively. All patients showed malignant hilarl obstruction （Bismuth types Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ） with different etiologies. RESULTS： Sixteen （51.6%） patients were male. The mean age of the patients was 67.0±14.0 years. Most patients were diagnosed as having hilar cholangiocarcinoma （58.1%） and gallbladder cancer （29.0%）. Technical success rate was 83.9%. Success was achieved more frequently in patients without masses obstructing the biliary confluence （MOC） than those with MOC （95.2% vs 60.0%, P=0.03）. Functional success rate was 77.4%. Complications occurred in 29.0% of the patients. These tended to occur more frequently in patients with MOC （50.0% vs 19.0%, P=0.11）. Median time to recurrent biliary obstruction was 188 days and median survival was 175 days. CONCLUSIONS： The large cell type stent can be used efficiently for bilateral SIS placement in malignant hilar obstruction. However, the risk of technical failure increases in patients with MOC, and caution is needed to prevent complications for these patients.

Background:Sperm quality evaluation is the logical first step in increasing field *** contain cytoplasmic organelles and biomolecules known as sperm-intrinsic factors,which play key roles in sperm maturation,sperm-oocyte fusion,and embryo *** particular,sperm membrane proteins[e.g.,arginine vasopressin receptor 2,beta-actin,prohibitin,and heat shock protein family D member 1(HSPD1)]and RNA could be used as functional indicators of male *** sought to clarify the effects of differential mRNA expression of selected genes on several fertilisation parameters,including sperm motility,motion kinematics,capacitation,and litter size,in a porcine ***:Our results demonstrated that HSPD1 expression was significantly correlated with male fertility,as measured by the litter size of inseminated *** expression of HSPD1 mRNA was linked to sperm motility and other motion kinematic ***,HSPD1 had a 66.7%overall accuracy in detecting male fertility,and the high-litter size group which was selected with the HSPD1 marker had a 1.34 greater litter size than the lowlitter size ***:Our findings indicate that HSPD1 might be a helpful biomarker for superior boar selection for artificial insemination,which could boost field fertility.

Transmesocolic hernia with strangulation in a patient without surgical history: Case report

Transmesenteric hernias have bimodal distribution and occur in both pediatric and adult patients. In the adult population, the cause is iatrogenic, traumatic, or inflammatory. We report a case of transmesocolic hernia in an elderly person without any preoperative history. An 84-year-old Korean female was admitted with midabdominal pain and distension for 1 d. On abdominal computed tomography, we diagnosed transmesocolic hernia with strangulated small bowel obstruction, and performed emergency surgery. The postoperative period was uneventful and she was discharged 11 d after surgery. Hence, it is important to consider the possibility of transmesocolic hernia in elderly patients with signs and symptoms of intestinal obstruction, even in cases with no previous surgery. 2013 Baishideng.
