Enhancement of Tumor Regression by Coulomb Nanoradiator Effect in Proton Treatment of Iron-Oxide Nanoparticle-Loaded Orthotopic Rat Glioma Model: Implication of Novel Particle Induced Radiation Therapy

Background: Proton-impact metallic nanoparticles, inducing low-energy electrons emission and characteristic X-rays termed as Coulomb nanoradiator effect (CNR), are known to produce therapeutic enhancement in proton treatment on experimental tumors. The purpose of this pilot study was to investigate the effect of CNR-based dose enhancement on tumor growth inhibition in an iron-oxide nanoparticle (FeONP)-loaded orthotopic rat glioma model. Methods: Proton-induced CNR was exploited to treat glioma-bearing SD rat loaded with FeONP by either fully-absorbed single pristine Bragg peak (APBP) or spread-out Bragg peak (SOBP) 45-MeV proton beam. A selected number of rats were examined by MRI before and after treatment to obtain the size and position information for adjusting irradiation field. Tumor regression assay was performed by histological analysis of residual tumor in the sacrificed rats 7 days after treatment. The results of CNR-treated groups were compared with the proton alone control. Results: Intravenous injection of FeONP (300 mg/kg) elevated the tumor concentration of iron up to 37 μg of Fe/g tissue, with a tumor-to-normal ratio of 5, 24 hours after injection. The group receiving FeONP and proton beam showed 65% - 79% smaller tumor volume dose-dependently compared with the proton alone group. The rats receiving FeONP and controlled irradiation field by MR imaging demonstrated more than 95% - 99% tumor regression compared with MRI-determined initial tumor size. Conclusions: Proton-impact FeONP produced therapeutic enhancement compared with proton alone in an orthotopic rat glioma model at a selected temporal point after treatment. Single BP proton beam could induce CNR- based dose enhancement and produce enhanced tumor regression that was comparable to SOBP treatment despite inhomogeneous tumor dose in the APBP-treated tumor. These results may suggest emergence of novel Particle Induced Radiation Therapy (PIRT) on malignant glioma.

In this paper, we design the signal processing module based on FPGA for vehicle FMCW radar systems. We employ the detection algorithms based on two-step FFT （Fast Fourier Transform） using the several fast ramps in order to resolve radar range-velocity ambiguities. We implement the detection algorithms including the first FFT, DBF （Digital Beam Forming）, the second FFT, and CFAR （Constant False Alarm） onto FPGA. In particular, the designed architecture supports multiple-receive channels to estimate target angles. The architecture also digitally generates a transmit wave using a DDS （Digital Direct Synthesizer） device. All algorithms and the controller are implemented into a Xilinx Virtex-5 platform and verified under the test platform.

Abdominal obesity describes the accumulation of excessive fat in the abdomen. It is known that depending on its distribution, visceral obesity presents a greater danger to health than subcutaneous obesity. To properly prevent and treat visceral obesity, accurate evaluation methods are necessary, and hence quantitative VAT estimation is extremely important. CT scans are the most accurate method for estimating VAT, but it requires a great deal of time and effort, limiting its use in studying or evaluating obesity in patients. This paper proposed automatic measurement software that could quickly differentiate between and measure VAT and SAT. The method was verified using a total of 100 abdominal CT data values;this paper measured the SAT and VAT in the entire abdomen using the automatic measurement software. Additionally, through a comparative evaluation between the automated measurements and manual measurements such as BMI and waist circumference, clinical reliability and viability were validated and evaluated. Between automated measurements and manual measurements, the TAT (r = 0.995, p = 0.01), SAT (r = 0.987, p = 0.01) and VAT (r = 0.993, p = 0.01) showed high correlation. Using BMI as the main metric, the TAT for automated measurements (r = 0.674, p = 0.01) and the TAT for manual measurements (r = 0.703, p = 0.01) showed the strongest correlation. When using waist circumference, the VAT for automated measurements (r = 0.826, p = 0.01) and the VAT for manual measurements (r = 0.822, p = 0.01) showed the strongest correlation. With these results, the reliability and viability of the automatic measurement software were confirmed. The software is expected to help greatly in reducing the time and in providing objective data of VAT measurements from CT scans for clinical research.

沿着和顺煤田东部边界分布的淳昌剪切带持有N—S至NE—SW走向的不连续性韧性剪切带,局部地段尚可表现出一些连续性韧性剪切带的特征。在前寒武纪花岗质片麻岩区内发育着宽数米至700m不等的糜棱岩带,具有低侧伏角的拉伸线理和高角度糜棱岩叶理构造。基底岩中糜棱岩带剪切位移量推算为3km以上。由于二轴性应变作用,使剪切带中发生强烈的非均质性多相变形,并伴随叶理构造,它具有渐发性弯曲及各种非对称微细构造。其错动方向属右型运动,从应变分析获知,剪切带有限应变为简单剪切加上较弱的纯剪切和伴随体积减少的渐进应变过程累积形成。推测韧性剪切作用是在绿片岩相变质条件下于三叠纪末至侏罗纪中期发生的。

Cimicifuga heracleifolia Komarov(CH) is used traditionally as a herbal remedy for many ***,published literature suggests that large doses of cimicifuga racemosa might be associated with ***,its long-term toxicity was not evaluated *** study was performed to evaluate 14-day repeated dose toxicity(RDT) and genotoxicity of CH extract according to the USNTP protocol and GLP guideline. To determine the appropriate dosage of CH extract administration,14-days RDT study were performed.14-days repeated dose study was performed to dosage levels of 0.125,0.25,0.5,1 and 2g/kg/day in F344/N *** test substance-related effect were observed in some criteria included mortality;clinical signs;body weight changes;urinalysis,organ weight,gross findings and histopathological findings. In reverse mutation assay of CH extract using Salmonella typhimurium TA98,TA100,TA102,TA1535 and TA1537,test substance was diluted to 5 dosage levels of 312.5,625,1,250,2,500 and 5,000μg/plate with D.D.W..Each tester strain was exposed to the test item with and without metabolic activation *** extract might not have reverse mutagenicity under the condition of this study. The East Asian Very Long Baseline Interferometry(VLBI) Network(EAVN) is a rapidly evolving international VLBI array that is currently promoted under joint efforts among China,Japan and *** aims at forming a joint VLBI Network by combining a large number of radio telescopes distributed over East Asian *** the combination of the Korean VLBI Network(KVN) and the VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry(VERA) into Ka VA,further expansion with the joint array in East Asia is actively *** we report the first imaging results(at 22 and 43 GHz) of bright radio sources obtained with Ka VA connected to Tianma 65-m and Nanshan 26-m Radio Telescopes in *** test the EAVN imaging performance for different sources,we observed four active galactic nuclei(AGN) having different brightness and *** a result,we confirmed that the Tianma 65-m Radio Telescope(TMRT) significantly enhances the overall array sensitivity,a factor of 4 improvement in baseline sensitivity and 2 in image dynamic range compared to the case of Ka VA *** addition of the Nanshan 26-m Radio Telescope(NSRT) further doubled the east-west angular *** the resulting high-dynamic-range,high-resolution images with EAVN(Ka VA+TMRT+NSRT),various fine-scale structures in our targets,such as the counter-jet in M87,a kink-like morphology of the 3 C 273 jet and the weak emission in other sources are successfully *** demonstrates the powerful capability of EAVN to study AGN jets and to achieve other science goals in *** expansion of EAVN will further enhance the angular resolution,detection sensitivity and frequency coverage of the network.

背景与目的羟考酮/纳洛酮控释片(controlled?release oxycodone/naloxone,OXN?CR)通过羟考酮发挥阿片类药物诱导的镇痛效果,同时纳洛酮可降低阿片类药物引起的便秘的发生率。本研究旨在评价与羟考酮控释片(controlled?release oxycodone,OX?CR)相比,OXN?CR在控制韩国患者癌性疼痛中的非劣效性。方法本项随机、开放标签、平行分组、IV期研究中,我们从韩国的7个肿瘤学/血液学中心招募了年龄20岁及以上、具有中重度癌性疼痛的患者[疼痛数字评价量表(numeric rating scale,NRS)疼痛评分≥4分]。意向治疗人群(intention天20 mg/10 mg,每天最大?to用?treat,ITT)随机(1:1)分为OXN?CR和OX?CR组。OXN?CR组:起始用药量为每药量80 mg/40 mg,用药4周。OX?CR组:起始用药量为20 mg/d,最大用药量为80 mg/d,用药4周。本研究的主要疗效终点为NRS疼痛评分从基线到第4周的变化,其非劣效性界值为-1.5。次要终点包括应急镇痛药摄入量、患者报告的排便习惯改变、缓泻药摄入量、生活质量(quality of life,QoL)及安全性评价。结果 128例患者组成的ITT人群中,7例因缺失主要疗效数据、4例因不符合资格标准被排除疗效分析。在第4周时,OXN?CR组(n=58)和OX?CR组(n=59)患者NRS疼痛评分的平均变化无显著性差异(-1.586 vs.-1.559,P=0.948)。组间差异的单侧95%置信区间(-0.776-0.830)的下限超过非劣效性边界(P <0.001)。OXN?CR和OX?CR两组患者在应急镇痛药摄入量、排便习惯改变、缓泻药摄入量、QoL和安全性评价方面均无显著差异。结论就治疗4周后减轻患者疼痛的效果而言,OXN?CR的疗效非劣于OX?CR,两者具有相似的安全性。对于OXN?CR在长期疼痛控制和缓解便秘方面的疗效,则需在更多韩国癌性疼痛患者人群中开展进一步的研究。

Isolation of aromatic yeasts(non-Saccharomycescerevisiae) from Korean traditional nuruksand identification of fermentation characteristics

Ethyl caproate and isoamyl alcohol are important for the quality of Yakju, one of the Korean traditional alcoholic beverages. From Korean traditional fermentation agent, Nuruk, we have isolated 8 yeasts which produced rich aromatic compounds using YEPD agar plates (1% yeast extract, 2% peptone, 2% dextrose, 2% agar) containing 50 uL cerulenin at 30℃. The isolated aromatic yeasts are identified as Pichia anomala (4 strains), Pichia fabianii (2 strains), Pichia farinose (1 strains), Geotrichum candidum (1 strains). We conducted alcohol fermentation with each of the aromatic yeasts and the compounds (ethyl caproate and isoamyl alcohol) producing range were 59.5 - 193.2 ppm and 10.8 - 91.6 ppm respectively. As a control, Fermivin®, famous aromatic wine yeast, was 89.4 ppm and 16.2 ppm respectively. We also find that the isolated Pichia anomala could produce higher level ethanol (4.2% - 5.0%, v/v) than other species (0.4% - 2.2%, v/v). Using the aromatic yeasts in fermentation industries, we expect to improve the quality of traditional alcoholic beverages.
