This review provides a comprehensive overview of the progress in light-material interactions(LMIs),focusing on lasers and flash lights for energy conversion and storage *** discuss intricate LMI parameters such as light sources,interaction time,and fluence to elucidate their importance in material *** addition,this study covers various light-induced photothermal and photochemical processes ranging from melting,crystallization,and ablation to doping and synthesis,which are essential for developing energy materials and ***,we present extensive energy conversion and storage applications demonstrated by LMI technologies,including energy harvesters,sensors,capacitors,and *** the several challenges associated with LMIs,such as complex mechanisms,and high-degrees of freedom,we believe that substantial contributions and potential for the commercialization of future energy systems can be achieved by advancing optical technologies through comprehensive academic research and multidisciplinary collaborations.

Electrostabilized homogeneous dispersion of boron nitride nanotubes in wide-range of solvents achieved by surface polarity modulation through pyridine attachment

Boron nitride nanotubes(BNNTs)show exceptional physical properties including high mechanical strength and thermal conductivity;however,their applications have been restricted due to limited dispersibility in processing ***,a novel BNNT dispersion method with exceptional dispersibility in a wide range of solvents has been demonstrated by surtace polarity modulation through short-molecule pyridine *** atoms in pyridine are selectively bonded to electron-deficient boron atoms of the BNNT surface through Lewis acid-base reaction,which changes the surface polarity of BNNTs from neutral to ***-dispersing pyridine-attached BNNTs(Py-BNNTs)create a thick and stable electronic double layer(EDL),resulting in uniform dispersion of BNNTs in solvents with an exceptional solubility parameter range of 18.5-48 MPa^1/*** uniform dispersion of BNNTs is maintained even after the mixing with diverse ***,composites incorporating uniformly-distributed BNNTs have been realized,and extraordinary property enhancements have been *** thermal conductivity of 20 wt.%Py-BNNT/epoxy composite has been significantly improved by 69.6%and the tensile strength of 2 wt.%Py-BNNT/PVA has been dramatically improved by 75.3%.Our work demonstrates a simple and facile route to dispersing BNNTs in diverse solvents,consequently leading to selective utlization of BNNT dispersed solvents in various application fields.

Paleo-shoreline changes in moraine dammed lake Khagiin Khar, Khentey Mountains, Central Mongolia

The formation and evolution of glacier moraine-dammed lakes are closely related to past glacier expansion and retreat. Geomorphic markers such as lacustrine terraces and beach ridges observed in these lakes provide important evidence for regional paleoenvironment reconstruction. We document the magnitude of paleo-shoreline fluctuations and timings of highstands of lake water by using cosmogenic 10Be surface exposure dating and optically stimulated luminescence(OSL) dating on samples collected from lacustrine sediment and bedrock strath in Lake Khagiin Khar. The lake was initially impounded by glacier moraine at the Global Last Glacial maximum(gLGM;21–19 ka), and the lake reached its maximum paleo-shoreline level of 1840 m at sea level(a.s.l.). At that time, the stored lake water amount was up to seven times greater and the surface area was three times larger than the present values. The paleolake experienced higher shoreline levels at 1832, 1822, and 1817 m a.s.l. and reached the present lake level after 0.4 ka. We interpret that decrease in the paleolake level was caused by spillover. The increase in melt water after the gLGM and the Late Glacial exceeded the storage threshold of the lake, and the paleolake water overflowed across the lowest drainage divides. The lake spilled over across the lowest bedrock ridge at 15.9 ± 0.6 ka, and the outlet was incised since that time at a rate of 3.72 ± 0.15 mm/yr. The initial stream of the Khiidiin Pass River was disturbed by LGM moraine damming and was rerouted into the present course running through moraine after the spillover at 15.9 ± 0.6 ka.

Eu2＋-doped bromophosphateapatite Sr5（PO4）3 Br phosphors were synthesized by the conventional hightemperature solid-state *** crystal structure and luminescence properties of the phosphors,as well as their thermal stability and CIE chromaticity coordinates were systematically *** spectra of Sr5（PO4）3 Br：Eu2＋ exhibit a single blue emission at 450 nm under the excitation of 345 nm,which is ascribed to the 4 f-5 d transition of Eu2＋.The phosphor shows very good thermal stability; The CIE color coordinates are very close to those of BaMgAl10O17：Eu2＋（BAM）.All the properties indicate that the blue-emitting Sr5（PO4）3 Br：Eu2＋ phosphor has potential application in white LEDs.

Can media exposure improve stock price efficiency in China and why?

The media in China has undergone extensive commercialization to become more market-driven over the last 35 years. Based on a sample of over two million newspaper articles, this study investigates whether the media in China has an incremental impact on stock price efficiency. We find that: as media coverage of a firm increases,(1) its stock price synchronicity decreases;(2)the probability of informed trading of its stock increases; and(3) the extent to which its stock price deviates from random walk decreases. Our interregional analysis over thirty-one provinces/regions within China reveals that the effects of the media on decreasing stock price synchronicity, increasing the probability of informed trading, and reducing stock price deviation from random walk are stronger in regions of weaker institutional *** findings suggest that a market-driven media can play the role of compensating for the underdeveloped governance institutions in transitional economies such as China.

A novel framework for predicting non-stationary production time series of shale gas based on BilSTM-RF-MPA deep fusion model

Shale gas, as an environmentally friendly fossil energy resource, has gained significant commercial development and shows immense potential. However, accurately predicting shale gas production faces substantial challenges due to the complex law of decline, nonlinear and non-stationary features in production data, which greatly repair the robustness of current models in predicting shale gas production time series. To address these challenges and improve accuracy in production forecasting, this paper introduces a novel and innovative approach: a hybrid proxy model that combines the bidirectional long short-term memory(BilSTM) neural network and random forest(RF) through deep learning. The BilSTM neural network is adept at capturing long-term dependencies, making it suitable for understanding the intricate relationships between input and output variables in shale gas *** the other hand, RF serves a dual purpose: reducing model variance and addressing the concept drift problem that arises in non-stationary time series predictions made by BilSTM. By integrating these two models, the hybrid approach effectively captures the inherent dependencies present in long and nonstationary production time series, thereby reducing model uncertainty. Furthermore, the combination of BilSTM and RF is optimized using the recently-proposed marine predators algorithm(MPA) to fine-tune hyperparameters and enhance the overall performance of the proxy model. The results demonstrate that the proposed BilSTM-RF-MPA model achieves higher prediction accuracy and demonstrates stronger generalization capabilities by effectively handling the complex nonlinear and non-stationary characteristics of shale gas production time series. Compared to other models such as LSTM, BilSTM, and RF, the proposed model exhibits superior fitting and prediction performance, with an average improvement in performance indicators exceeding 20%. Mitochondria as therapeutic targets for cancer stem cells

Cancer stem cells(CSCs) are maintained by theirsomatic stem cells and are responsible for tumor initiation, chemoresistance, and metastasis. Evidence for the CSCs existence has been reported for a number of human cancers. The CSC mitochondria have been shown recently to be an important target for cancer treatment, but clinical significance of CSCs and their mitochondria properties remain unclear. Mitochondriatargeted agents are considerably more effective compared to other agents in triggering apoptosis of CSCs, as well as general cancer cells, via mitochondrial dysfunction. Mitochondrial metabolism is altered in cancer cells because of their reliance on glycolytic intermediates, which are normally destined for oxidative phosphorylation. Therefore, inhibiting cancer-specific modifications in mitochondrial metabolism, increasing reactive oxygen species production, or stimulating mitochondrial permeabilization transition could be promising new therapeutic strategies to activate cell death in CSCs as well, as in general cancer cells. This review analyzed mitochondrial function and its potential as a therapeutic target to induce cell death in CSCs. Furthermore, combined treatment with mitochondriatargeted drugs will be a promising strategy for the treatment of relapsed and refractory cancer.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis(IPF)is a chronic inflammatory and fibrotic response-driven lung disease that is difficult to cure because it manifests excessive profibrotic cytokines(e.g.,TGF-β),activated myofibroblasts,and accumulated extracellular matrix(ECM).In an attempt to develop an inhalation formulation with enhanced antifibrotic efficacy,we sought to fabricate unique aerosolizable inhaled microgels(μGel)that contain nintedanib-poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA)nanoparticles(NPs;n-PN)and pirfenidone-liposomes(p-LP).The aero-μGel was~12μm,resisted phagocytosis by alveolar macrophages in vitro and in vivo,and protected inner-entrapped n-PN and *** n-PN/p-LP@aero-μGel caused enhanced/extended antifibrotic efficacy in a bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis mouse presumably due to prolonged lung ***,the results obtained by intratracheal aerosol insufflation of our n-PN/p-LP@aero-μGel twice a week were much better than those by as many as seven doses of single or mixed applications of n-PN or *** antifibrotic/pharmacokinetic results for the n-PN/p-LP@aero-μGel included reduced fibrosis progression,restored lung physiological functions,deactivated myofibroblasts,inhibited TGF-βprogression,and suppressed ECM component production(collagen I andα-SMA)along with prolonged lung retention *** believe that our n-PN/p-LP@aero-μGel increased the local availability of both nintedanib and pirfenidone due to evasion of alveolar macrophage phagocytosis and prolonged lung retention with reduced systemic *** this approach,our inhalation formulation subsequently attenuated fibrosis progression and improved lung ***,these results hold profound implications in the therapeutic potential of our n-PN/p-LP@aero-μGel to serve as a clinically promising platform,providing significant advancements for improved treatment of many respiratory diseases including IFP.

Relation between preoperative hyperopia and surgical outcome in infantile esotropia

AIM: To evaluate the relation between preoperative hyperopia and surgical outcomes of infantile esotropia in patients younger than 24 months of ***: Medical records of patients who underwent bilateral medial rectus muscle recession for infantile esotropia between November 1, 2002 and December 1, 2011 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were divided into two groups according to the degree of preoperative hyperopia. Group I had less than +3.0 diopter(D) of hyperopia and group II had between +3.0 and +5.0 D of hyperopia. Postoperative alignments were evaluated 1 wk, 3, 6 mo, and 1 y after surgery. Following the 1-year postoperative visit, patients were monitored yearly. Relationships between preoperative factors including hyperopia and postoperative outcomes were evaluated. RESULTS: Forty-six patients were included, with 33 patients in group I and 13 patients in group II. The preoperative mean refractive error was +0.88 D in group I and +3.45 D in group II. Surgical outcomes were not significantly different between groups at any postoperative time point examined. Cumulative probability of surgical success, prevalence of inferior oblique overaction, dissociated vertical deviation, and re-operation rate were not significantly different between ***: Preoperative moderate hyperopia(less than +5.0 D) did not affect the surgical outcome of infantile esotropia. Therefore, the surgical correction of esotropia should be considered when the angle of esodeviation is unchanged following hyperopia correction, even in children with moderate hyperopia.
