Comparison of different nutritional assessments in detecting malnutrition among gastric cancer patients

AIM: To evaluate the prevalence of preoperative and postoperative malnutrition and the relationships between objective and subjective nutritional assessment of gastric cancer patients. METhoDS: From October 2005 to July 2006, we studied 80 patients with no evidence of recurrent disease and no loss to follow-up after curative surgery for gastric cancer. In this group, 9 patients underwent total gastrectomy and 71 patients subtotal gastrectomy. At admission, 6 and 12 mo after surgery, the patients were assessed on the subjective global assessment (SGA), nutritional risk screening (NRS-2002), nutritional risk index (NRI) and by anthropometric measurements and laboratory data. Differences between the independent groups were assessed with the Student's t test and oneway analysis of variance. Spearman's rank correlation coefficients were calculated to evaluate the association between the scores and variables. RESULTS: The prevalence of malnutrition at admissionwas 31% by SGA and 43% by NRS-2002. At admission, the anthropometric data were lower in the malnourished groups defined by the SGA and NRS-2002 assessments, but did not differ between the groups using the NRI assessment. Body weight (BW), body mass index (BMI), triceps skin fold and midarm circumference were significantly reduced, but the total lymphocyte count, albumin, protein, cholesterol and serum iron levels did not decrease during the postoperative period. Six months after surgery, there was a good correlation between the nutritional assessment tools (SGA and NRS-2002) and the other nutritional measurement tools (BW, BMI, and anthropometric measurements). however, 12 mo after surgery, most patients who were assessed as malnourished by SGA and NRS-2002 had returned to their preoperative status, although their BW, BMI, and anthropometric measurements still indicated a malnourished status. CONCLUSION: A combination of objective and subjective assessments is needed for the early detection of the nutritional status

Most commercially available herbicides contain surfactants as co-formulants to increase adhesion and absorption by plant *** amines,one of the most used surfactants,are non-ionic and derived from animal *** represent a class of surfactants with similar structural features,including polyethoxylated tallow amine(POEA).POEA is widely used in glyphosate,glufosinate-containing *** 2015,the European Food Safety Society(EFSA)concluded that POEA was more toxic than glyphosate when tested in glyphosate-based formulations.[1]They also attributed the poisoning following ingestion by humans to the presence of POEA.

Acetylsalicylic acid for metal stent in malignant distal common bile duct obstruction:A randomized controlled trial

The epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)pathway plays an important role in the progression of colorectal cancer(CRC).Anti-EGFR drugs based on antibodies have been widely used for treating CRC through inducing the cell death ***,the majority of CRC patients will inevitably develop drug-resistance during anti-EGFR drug treatment,which is mainly caused by a point mutation in the KRAS *** developed a nanoliposomal(NL)particle containing the Cas9 protein and a single-guide RNA(sgRNA)complex(Cas9-RNP),for genomic editing of the KRAS *** NL particle is composed of bio-compatible lipid compounds that can effectively encapsulate *** modifying the NL particle to include the appropriate antibody,it can specifically recognize EGFR expressing CRC and effectively deliver the gene-editing *** conditions of NL treatment were optimized using a KRAS mutated CRC in vivo mouse *** with KRAS-mutated CRC showed drug resistance against cetuximab,a therapeutic antibody *** treating the mice with the KRAS gene-editing NL particles,the implanted tumors showed a dramatic decrease in *** results demonstrated that this genomic editing complex has great potential as a therapeutic carrier system for the treatment of drug-resistant cancer caused by a point mutation.

Plasma Post Oxidation of Plasma Nitrocarburized SKD 61 Steel

Plasma nitrocarburizing and plasma oxidizing treatments were performed to improve the wear and corrosion resistance of SKD 61 *** nitrocarburizing was conducted for 12 h at 540℃in the nitrogen, hydrogen and methane atmosphere to produce theε-Fe-（2-3）（N,C） *** compound layer produced by plasma nitrocarburising was predominantly composed ofε-phase,with a small proportion ofγ′-Fe-4 （N,C） phase. The thickness of the compound layer and the diffusion layer are about 10μm and about 200μm,respectively. Plasma post oxidation was performed on the nitrocarburized samples with various oxygen/hydrogen ratio at constant temperature of 500℃for 1 *** very thin magnetite （Fe-3O-4） layer of 1-2μm in thickness on top of the compound layer was *** polarization test revealed that plasma nitrocarburizing process contributed a significant improvement of corrosion resistance of SKD 61 ***,the corrosion characteristics of the nitrocarburized compound layer was deteriorated by oxidation treatment.

Oncologic efficacy of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist in hormone receptor-positive very young breast cancer patients treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy

BACKGROUND Breast cancer in young women has been shown to have an aggressive behavior and poor *** To evaluate the outcomes of young hormone receptor(HR)-positive patients with breast cancer treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC),and the oncologic efficacy of gonadotropin-releasing hormone(GnRH)*** This retrospective study involved a prospectively enrolled *** included patients diagnosed with invasive breast cancer who were treated with NAC followed by curative surgery at the Samsung Medical Center and Samsung Changwon hospital between January 2006 and December *** patients with HR-positive and human epidermal grow factor 2(HER2)-negative breast cancer,we analyzed the characteristics and oncology outcomes between the patients equal to or younger than 35 years and the patients older than 35 *** Among 431 patients with NAC and HR-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer,78 were 35 years old or younger,and 353 patients were older than 35 *** median follow-up was 71.0 *** was no statistically significant difference in disease free survival(DFS,P=0.565)and overall survival(P=0.820)between the patients equal to or younger than 35 years and the patients older than 35 *** two groups differed in that the GnRH agonist was used more frequently in the group of patients equal to or younger than 35 years than in the other group(52.4%vs 11.2%,P<0.001).Interestingly,for the DFS according to the GnRH agonist in the group of patients equal to or younger than 35 years,patients treated with the GnRH agonist had better DFS(P=0.037).CONCLUSION Administration of GnRH agonists might improve the DFS rate of HR-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer in the equal to or younger than 35 years group of patients with NAC.

Climatic Classification over Asia during the Middle holocene Climatic Optimum Based on PMIP Models

When considering potential global warming projections, it is useful to understand the impact of each climate condition at 6 kyr before present. Asian paleoclimate was simulated by performing an integration of the multi-model ensemble with the paleoclimate modeling intercomparison project（PMIP） models. The reconstructed winter（summer） surface air temperature at 6 kyr before present was 0.85 oC（0.21 oC） lower（higher） than the present day over Asia, 60oE-150oE, 10oN-60oN. The seasonal variation and heating differences of land and ocean in summer at 6 kyr before present might be much larger than present day. The winter and summer precipitation of 6 kyr before present were 0.067 and 0.017 mm·day-1larger than present day, respectively. The Group B climate, which means the dry climates based on K？ppen climate classification, at 6 kyr before present decreased 17% compared to present day, but the Group D which means the continental and microthermal climates at 6 kyr before present increased over 7%. Comparison between the results from the model simulation and published paleo-proxy record agrees within the limited sparse paleo-proxy record data.

Superior mechanical properties and strengthening mechanisms of lightweight AlxCrNbVMo refractory high-entropy alloys(x=0,0.5,1.0)fabricated by the powder metallurgy process

Light and strong AlxCrNbVMo(x=0,0.5,and 1.0)refractory high-entropy alloys(RHEAs)were designed and fabricated via a the powder metallurgical *** microstructure of the AlxCrNbVMo alloys consisted of a single BCC crystalline structure with a sub-micron grain size of 2-3μm,and small amounts(homogeneous microstructure,without chemical segregation or micropores was achieved via high-energy ball milling and spark-plasma *** alloys exhibited superior mechanical properties at 25 and 1000℃compared to those of other ***,CrNbVMo alloy showed a yield strength of 2743 MPa at room ***,the yield strength of the CrNbVMo alloy at 1000℃was 1513 *** specific yield strength of the CrNbVMo alloy was increased by 27%and 87%at 25 and 1000℃,respectively,compared to the AlMo_(0.5) NbTa_(0.5)TiZr RHEA,which exhibited so far the highest specific yield strength among the cast *** addition of Al to CrNbVMo alloy was advantageous in reducing its reduce density to below 8.0 g/cm^(3),while the elastic modulus decreased due to the much lower elastic modulus of Al compared to that of the CrNbVMo *** analysis of the strengthening contributions,showed that the solid solution strengthening,arising from a large misfit effect due to the size and modulus,and the high shear modulus of matrix,was revealed to predominant strengthening mechanism,accounting for over 50%of the yield strength of the AlxCrNbVMo RHEAs.
