Background: Endoscopic ablation of Barrett’s esophagus has been described in which various thermocoagulation modalities are used in combination with a high d ose of a proton pump inhibitor. No rand.mized comparison of ablation strategies has been published. methods: Referred patients were screened to identify those w ith Barrett’s es- ophagus 2 to 7 cmin length,without high-grade dysplasia or cancer. Included p atients received pantoprazole (40 mg twice a day), followed by rand.mization to treatment with argon plasma coagulation (APC) or multipolar electrocoagulation ( mPEC). The primary outcome measure was the number of treatment sessions required for endoscopic ablation. Results: Of 235 patients screened, 52 were rand.mized. The mean length of Barrett’s esophagus was 3.1 cm in the mPEC group vs. 4.0 cm in the APC group (p = 0.03). Otherwise,the treatment groups were similar with re gard to baseline characteristics. The mean number of treatment sessions required for endoscopic ablation was 2.9 for mPEC vs. 3.8 for APC (p = 0.04) in an inten tion-to-treat analysis (p = 0.249, after adjustment for the difference in leng th of Barrett’s esophagus).The proportion of patients in which ablationwas endo scopically achieved proximal to the gastroesophageal junction was 88%for the mP EC group vs. 81%for the APC group (p = 0.68) and histologically achieved in 81%for mPEC vs. 65%for APC (p= 0.21). The mean ti me required for the first treatment session was 6 minutes with mPEC vs. 10 minut es with APC (p =0.01) in per protocol analysis. There was no serious adverse eve nt, but transient moderate to severe upper-GI symptoms occurred after mPEC in 8 %vs. 13%after APC (p = 0.64).Conclusions: Although there were no statistically significant differences, ablation of Barrett’s esophagus with pantoprazole and.mPEC required numerically fewer treatment sessions, and endoscopic and histolog ic ablation was achieved in a greater proportion of patients compared with treat ment with pantop

Building surface cool materials are novel materials that can reduce urban heat island intensity and decrease building energy *** study investigated the impact of radiative properties of materials,façade orientation,and.morphological parameters on energy consumption in six typical residential neighborhoods in Nanjing,*** neighborhood energy consumption of 16 application schemes considering the façade orientation factor is compared to determine the best energy-saving *** and annual energy-saving rates,savings in electricity costs,and the price ceiling for materials per unit area are *** results show that for low-rise buildings,using cool materials only on the roof can reduce the annual energy consumption by 1%.When cool or super cool materials are also used on the building façade,the annual energy saving rate can be up to 3.4%and 4.3%,*** cool materials on the south façade of buildings is not recommended due to significant heat loss in *** savings in electricity costs and the price ceiling for materials per unit area,the price of cool and super cool materials should be less than 3.0 and 3.7 RmB/m2,respectively,assuming a lifespan of eight years in Nanjing.

Background In beef cattle, more than 50% of the energy input to produce a unit of beef is consumed by the female that produced the calf. development of genomic tools to identify females with high genetic merit for reproductive function could increase the profitability and sustainability of beef *** Genome-wide association studies(GWAS) were performed using a single-step genomic best linear unbiased prediction approach on pregnancy outcome traits from a population of Angus–Brahman crossbred heifers. Furthermore, a validation GWAS was performed using data from another farm. Heifers were genotyped with the Bovine GGP F250 array that contains 221,077 SNPs. In the discovery population, heifers were bred in winter breeding seasons involving a single round of timed artificial insemination(AI) followed by natural mating for 3 months. Two phenotypes were analyzed: pregnancy outcome to first-service AI(PAI;n = 1,481) and pregnancy status at the end of the breeding season(PEBS;n = 1,725). The heritability was estimated as 0.149 and 0.122 for PAI and PEBS, respectively. In the PAI model, one quantitative trait locus(QTL), located between 52.3 and 52.5 mb on BTA7, explained about 3% of the genetic variation, in a region containing a cluster of γ-protocadherin genes and SLC25A2. Other QTLs explaining between 0.5% and 1% of the genetic variation were found on BTA12 and 25. In the PEBS model, a large QTL on BTA7 was synonymous with the QTL for PAI, with minor QTLs located on BTA5, 9, 10, 11, 19, and 20. The validation population for pregnancy status at the end of the breeding season were Angus–Brahman crossbred heifers bred by natural mating. Numerical calculation of Z-scan measurements for nonlinear media with large phase shift

We have reported the characteristics of a Z-scan for the poly(azaneylylidene-acylene)(dAZA) polymer, as nonlinear medium with a large nonlinear phase shift using continuous-wave(CW) laser beam. It has been verified that the Fresnel diffraction model is applicable for analyses of Z-scan measurements with dAZA polymer at high laser power. It was found that Z-scan curves with peak-to-valley features appear as the applied light intensity increases in the case of a large nonlinear phase shift. The Z-scan experiments were carried out using a CW laser to verify the theoretical calculations in the case of a large nonlinear phase shift model. Our results show good agreements between the experimental data and the proposed theoretical models.

Spinel cubic ferrites have huge applications in me mory and high frequency *** the improvement of these modern devices,the magnetic coercivity,permeability,and dielectric properties of a ferrite are the important *** article focuses on improving the magnetic coercivity,magnetic permeability,and dielectric properties of Co_(0.2)Zn_(0.3)Ni_(0.5)Eu_(x)Fe_(2-x)O_(4) ferrites,where x=0.00,0.06,and *** X-ray diffraction(XRd),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEm),energy dispersive X-ray(EdX),vibrating sample magnetometer(VSm),and an impedance analyzer were used to characterize the structural,magnetic,and dielectric properties of the *** XRd patterns indicate the formation of spinel cubic structure of the samples with a secondary peak(EuFeO_(3))for Eu doped *** densities and porosities of the samples follow an inverse trend,where the doped samples’lattice parameters are increased with the increment of rare earth Eu *** FTIR analysis also proves the spinel cubic phase of the *** average grain size of the ferrites is obtained via FESEm images,and it is increased from 121 to 198 *** analysis confirms that doping of the Eu content also changes other hysteresis loop properties of Co_(0.2)Zn_(0.3)Ni_(0.5)Eu_(x)Fe_(2-x)O_(4) ***,the coercivity of the Eu doped samples is greater than that of the mother alloy(x=0.00).The EdX study shows that there is no impurity contamination in the *** permeability and dielectric measurements show an improved quality factor of the Eu-doped samples with low magnetic and dielectric *** dependent resistivity and impedance analysis also show the improved *** the observed properties of the samples,all the investigated ferrites might be strong candidates for potential applications in memory devices,magnetic sensors,and high frequency applications.
