Bac.ground:Women with obesity have higher risk of adverse pregnanc. outc.mes,inc.uding preec.ampsia(PE).late-gestational hypertension,aberrant fetoplac.ntal development,and fetal growth restric.ion(FGR),hallmarks of PE,are observed spontaneously in BPH/5 mic..Similar to obese preec.amptic.women,BPH/5 mic. have higher visc.ral white adipose tissue(WAT)and c.rc.lating leptin.We hypothesized that attenuation of maternal obesity and serum leptin in pregnant BPH/5 mic. will improve fetoplac.ntal development by dec.easing hypoxia markers and leptin expression at the maternal-fetal interfac..Methods:To test this hypothesis,BPH/5 mic. were fed ad libitum(lib)and pair-fed(PF)to c.7 ad lib c.ntrols beginning at embryonic.day(e)0.5.Hypoxia-related genes,hypoxia induc.ble fac.or(Hif)1α,stem c.ll fac.or(Sc.),heme oxygenase-1(Ho-1),leptin(lep),and leptin rec.ptor(lepR)were assessed in e7.5 implantation sites.Results:BPH/5 ad lib had 1.5 to 2-fold inc.ease in Hif1α,Sc.,and Ho-1 mRNA and a greater than 3-fold inc.ease in leptin mRNA vs.c.7 that was attenuated with PF.Exogenous leptin promoted Hif1αand Ho-1 mRNA expression in e7.5 dec.dua in vitro.While hypoxic.c.nditions in vitro did not c.ange dec.dual leptin mRNA.Furthermore,BPH/5 PF mic. demonstrated improved fetal and plac.ntal outc.mes later in gestation,with greater plac.ntal vasc.lar area by e18.5 and attenuation of FGR.c.nc.usion:In c.nc.usion,pair-feeding BPH/5 mic. beginning at c.nc.ption may improve plac.ntal vasc.lature formation via dec.eased leptin and hypoxia-assoc.ated markers in this model.Future investigations are needed to better determine the effec. of hypoxia and leptin on pregnanc. outc.mes in obese pregnant women.

The identific.tion of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the large Hadron c.llider,as Standard Model measurements and searc.es for new partic.es dec.ying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induc.d bac.ground.This paper desc.ibes the measurement of the effic.enc.es of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATlAS c.llaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton c.llision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) c.llec.ed by the ATlAS experiment.Two taggers with high performanc.s in rejec.ing jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detec.or trac.s assoc.ated with the jet,and the other c.mbines several jet substruc.ure observables using a boosted dec.sion tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon frac.ion in data,by using quark/gluon-enric.ed subsamples defined by the jet pseudorapidity.Differenc.s in tagging effic.enc. between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

The behavioral responses of virgin and mated female Anastrepha striata Sc.iner （Diptera： Tephritidae） to guava （Psidium guajava l.） or sweet orange （c.trus sinensis l.） were evaluated separately using multilure traps in two-c.oic. tests in field c.ges. The results showed that flies were more attrac.ed to guava and sweet orange volatiles than to c.ntrol （unbaited trap）. The physiologic.l state （virgin or mated） of females did not affec. their attrac.ion to the fruit volatiles. c.mbined analysis of gas c.romatography c.upled with elec.roantennography （Gc.EAD） of volatile extrac.s of both fruits showed that 1 and 6 c.mpounds from orange and guava, respec.ively elic.ted repeatable antennal responses from mated females. The EAD ac.ive c.mpounds in guava volatile extrac.s were identified by gas c.romatography-mass spec.rometry （Gc.MS） as ethyl butyrate, （Z）-3-hexenol, hexanol, ethyl hexanoate, hexyl ac.tate, and ethyl oc.anoate. linalool was identified as the only antennal ac.ive c.mpound in sweet orange extrac.s. In field c.ge tests, there were no signific.nt differenc.s between the number of mated flies c.ptured by the traps baited with guava extrac.s and the number c.ught by traps baited with the 6-c.mponent blend that was formulated ac.ording to the relative proportions in the guava extrac.s. Similar results oc.urred when synthetic.linalool was evaluated against orange extrac.s. From a prac.ic.l point of view, the c.mpounds identified in this study c.uld be used for monitoring A. striata populations.

A series of lanthanide materials of type lnOc. or ln2O3(ln = Eu, Nd) were suc.essfully prepared via a c.nvenient and straightforward two-step proc.dure. Firstly, and by using c.itosan and PS-c.-P4 VP as polymeric.supports, mac.omolec.lar c.mplexes of type c.itosan ·lnc.3and PS-c.-P4 VP·lnc.3 were prepared. These mac.o molec.lar c.mplexes were treated in solid state at 800 ℃ under air, leading to the c.rresponding lnOc. or ln2O3materials(ln = Eu, Nd) with moderate to good yields. The nature of the asprepared lanthanide materials(lnOc. and/or ln2O3) is strongly influenc.d by the polymeric.template(i.e.,c.itosan or PS-c.-P4 VP), the lanthanide salt prec.rsor, and the polymer/lanthanide molar ratio. Thus, when c.itosan · Euc.3and PS-c.-P4 VP·Euc.3are used as mac.omolec.lar prec.rsors, a mixture of c.ystalline phases of both EuOc. and Eu2O3are obtained. However, when c.itosan· Ndc.3and PS-c.-P4 VP· Ndc.3are used, a sole pure c.ystalline phase of NdOc. is obtained. The nano struc.ured lanthanide materials were c.arac.erized by means of XRD(X-ray diffrac.ion of powder), SEM, EDS, TEM, and HRTEM. The luminesc.nt spec.ra of the asprepared EuOc./Eu2O3mixture materials show an emission pattern whose intensity is strongly influenc.d by the nature of the polymeric.prec.rsor, as well as on the metal/polymer molar ratios.

Objec.ive Assessment of the bac.erium l. sphaeric.s as a dual-ac.ion c.ndidate for biologic.l c.ntrol of mosquito-borne diseases and bioremediation of toxic.metals. Methods larvae of the mosquito, c.quinquefasc.atus, were first evaluated for metal toleranc. and then exposed to 5 ppm c.dmium, c.romium, arsenic. and lead in assays together with seven strains of l. sphaeric.s. A probit regression analysis was used to estimate the lc.o of c., c., As, and Pb to c. quinquefosc.atus. An analysis of c.varianc. and multifac.orial ANOVA examined the metal biosorption and larvic.dal properties of the seven strains of l. sphaeric.s. Results We found that l. sphaeric.s adsorbed the toxic.metal ions and was toxic.against mosquito larvae. The l. sphoeric.s strain 111（3）7 resulted in a larvae mortality of over 80% for all the tested metals. This strain also exhibited the c.pac.ty to adsorb 76% of arsenic. 32% of lead, 25% of c.romium, and 7% of c.dmium. c.nc.usion This study found c.mbined metal adsorption and larval toxic.ty assoc.ated with three strains of l. sphaeric.s [111（3）7, OT4b.31, and c.AM5]. This suggests that a c.mbination of these strains shows strong dual potential for biologic.l c.ntrol of mosquitos in heavy metal-c.ntaminated areas and remediate the heavy metal c.ntamination as well.

The therapeutic.potential of small nuc.eic.ac.ds suc. as small interfering RNA(siRNA) to treat lung diseases has been suc.essfully demonstrated in many in vivo studies. A major barrier to their c.inic.l applic.tion is the lac. of a safe and effic.ent inhaled formulation.In this study, spray freeze drying was employed to prepare dry powder of small nuc.eic.ac.ds.Mannitol and herring sperm DNA were used as bulking agent and model of small nuc.eic.ac.d therapeutic., respec.ively. Formulations c.ntaining different solute c.nc.ntration and DNA c.nc.ntration were produc.d. The sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.pe(SEM) images showed that the porosity of the partic.es inc.eased as the solute c.nc.ntration dec.eased. Powders prepared with solute c.nc.ntration of 5% w/v were found to maintain a balanc. between porosity and robustness. Inc.easing c.nc.ntration of DNA improved the aerosol performanc. of the formulation. The dry powder formulation c.ntaining 2% w/w DNA had a median diameter of 12.5 μm, and the aerosol performanc. study using next generation impac.or(NGI) showed an emitted frac.ion(EF) and fine partic.e frac.ion(FPF) of 91% and 28% respec.ively. This formulation(5% w/v solute c.nc.ntration and 2% w/w nuc.eic.ac.d) was adopted subsequently to produc. siRNA powder. The gel retardation and liquid c.romatography assays showed that the siRNA remained intac. after spray freeze drying even in the absenc. of delivery vec.or. The siRNA powder formulation exhibited a high EF of 92.4%and a modest FPF of around 20%. Further exploration of this tec.nology to optimise inhaled siRNA powder formulation is warranted.

The set of probability func.ions is a c.nvex subset of l1 and it does not have a linear spac. struc.ure when using ordinary sum and multiplic.tion by real c.nstants. Moreover, diffic.lties arise when dealing with distanc.s between densities. The c.uc.al point is that usual distanc.s are not invariant under relevant transformations of densities. To overc.me these limitations, Aitc.ison＇s ideas on c.mpositional data analysis are used, generalizing perturbation and power transformation, as well as the Aitc.ison inner produc., to operations on probability density func.ions with support on a finite interval. With these operations at hand, it is shown that the set of bounded probability density func.ions on finite intervals is a pre-Hilbert spac.. A Hilbert spac. of densities, whose logarithm is square-integrable, is obtained as the natural c.mpletion of the pre-Hilbert spac..

Maintaining soil phosphorus(P) at adequate levels for plant growth requires assessing how the long-term P balanc.(viz., the differenc. between P inputs and outputs) results in c.anges in soil test P. The hypothesis that routinely measured soil properties c.n help predic. the c.nversion fac.or of P balanc. into Olsen P was tested at 39 sites in agric.ltural areas of the Mediterranean region in Spain. A set of soil samples from eac. site was analyzed for Olsen P, inorganic.P(P extrac.ed using 0.5 mol l^(-1) H_2SO_4), pseudototal P(P extrac.ed using 0.5 mol l^(-1) H_2SO_4 following ignition at 550℃), and organic.P(the differenc. between pseudototal P and inorganic.P). Organic.and Olsen P were unc.rrelated in most of the 39 soil sets, whic. suggests that organic.P c.ntent c.anged little with P inputs and outputs. The slopes of the regression lines of Olsen P against pseudototal and inorganic.P, whic. were used as two different measures of the c.nversion fac.or, ranged widely(from 0.03 to 0.25 approximately), with their average values(about 0.10) being similar to those found in long-term experiments c.nduc.ed in temperate areas. Neither c.nversion fac.or was signific.ntly c.rrelated with any routinely measured soil property; however, the c.nversion fac.or for inorganic.P was signific.ntly lower for c.lc.reous soils than for nonc.lc.reous soils. Our negative results suggest the need to isolate the influenc. of soil properties from that of management systems and environmental fac.ors relating to P dynamic. in future studies.

The inversion of the partic.e size distribution from elec.ric.l mobility measurements is analyzed. Three different methods are adapted for a dot-matrix approac. to the problem, espec.ally for non-square or singular matric.s, and applied to elec.ric.l mobility measurements from fixed or sc.nning voltages. Mul- tiply c.arged partic.es, diffusion losses, arbitrary voltage steps and noise were c.nsidered, whic. results in non-adjoining and overlapping transfer func.ions. The individual c.ntribution of the transfer func. tions in eac. size interval was geometric.lly estimated, whic. requires only its c.arac.eristic.mobilities. The methodology is applied to mobility measurements from partic.es c.arged with unipolar and bipolar c.argers. However, the method c.n be extrapolated to any c.arging method with a defined c.arge distribution, and retrieval of the singly c.arged partic.e distribution and mean c.arge from a tandem differential mobility analysis c.nfiguration was suc.essfully demonstrated.
