Preservation of the anal transition zone has long been a significant source of controversy in the surgical management of ulcerative *** two techniques for restorative proctocolectomy and ileal pouch anal anastomosis(RPC IPAA) in common practice are a stapled anastomosis and a handsewn anastomosis;these techniques differ in the amount of remaining rectal mucosa and therefore the presence of the anal transition zone following *** technique has advantages and disadvantages in long-term functional outcomes,operative and postoperative complications,and risk of ***,we propose a selective approach to performing a stapled RPC IPAA based on the presence of dysplasia in the preoperative endoscopic evaluation.

Aims Research on the effects of extreme rainfall events on ecosystem function has primarily focussed on drought or flooding events,which usually include changes to mean or total rainfall,annually or over a ***,less is known about the effects of increased rainfall variability without change to mean or total *** investigated the effects of increased variation of water supply on shoot and root biomass as well as the distribution of root biomass of four grassland plant species,grown in monoculture and mixture *** Perennial ryegrass(Lolium perenne L.,shallow-rooting grass),chicory(Cichorium intybus L.,deep-rooting forb),white clover(Trifolium repens L.,shallow-rooting legume)and red clover(Trifolium pratense L.,deep-rooting legume)were established in *** plants of the same species were grown in monoculture communities and one of each species grown in four-species *** supply was manipulated such that;compared with a baseline level with low variation in water supply,there was a treatment with medium variation(±40%)and another with high variation(±80%).Shoot and root biomass were measured,and vertical root distribution models *** Findings Compared with the low variation treatment,shoot biomass was significantly reduced under high variation for white clover,red clover and four-species *** all conditions,four-species communities produced more shoot and root biomass than predicted by species performance in monoculture(overyielding).Under increased water variation,chicory monocultures allocated a higher proportion of root biomass to deeper soil layers while the total root biomass of white clover monocultures was significantly *** results indicate that increased variability of water supply can negatively affect the shoot and root biomass production of single and multi-species *** is a need for further investigation of water variation effects on the functioning of multi-sp

The present paper serves as a review of the associations between lower urinary tract symptoms （LUTS） and erectile dysfunction （ED）, with a focus on common and combined pathways for treatment. LUTS and ED are common conditions seen in general urologic practice. Research has started to establish epidemiologic and pathophysiologic links between the two conditions and a strong association confirmed across multiple studies. Men seeking care for one condition should always be interviewed for complaints of the other condition. Proposed common pathways include α-1 adrenergic receptor imbalance, Rho-kinase overactivity, endothelial cell dysfunction and atherosclerosis-induced ischemia. Medical therapy has replaced surgery as the first-line treatment for LUTS in most patients, with the incorporation of α-adrenergic receptor antagonists （α-ARAs） and 5-α-reductase inhibitors （5-ARIs） into everyday practice. Treatment with α-ARAs contributes to some improvement in ED, whereas use of 5-ARIs results in worsened sexual function in some patients. Phosphodiesterase-5 （PDE-5） inhibitors have revolutionized the treatment of ED with a simple oral regimen, and new insights demonstrate a benefit of combined use of PDE-5 inhibitors and α-ARAs. The mechanisms of action of these medications support these observed benefits, and they are being studied in the basic science and clinical settings. In addition, novel mechanisms for therapy have been proposed based on clinical and research observations. The minimally invasive and surgical treatments for LUTS are known to have adverse effects on ejaculatory function, while their effects on erectile function are still debated. Much remains to be investigated, but it is clear that the associations between LUTS and ED lay the foundation for future therapies and possible preventative strategies.

Introduction:Following oil sands mining in Alberta,Canada,the main land management goal is to establish a functioning boreal forest ecosystem,including the understory plant *** of the challenges with restoring the understory is the presence of non-native species that compete with desirable native species for *** a greenhouse experiment,we studied the growth of two native understory species(Galium boreale and Vicia americana)and a non-native invasive species(Matricaria perforata)grown with either intra-or interspecific neighbors across three common land reclamation soils and a nitrogen fertilizer ***:When grown by itself,*** aboveground biomass did not differ among soil or fertilizer treatments,likely due to its ability to fix *** of *** was directly related to soil nitrogen,and it had the greatest increase in biomass with *** and biomass of *** was less than the other species,and it had the highest mortality in the nitrogen-poor *** grown together,the proportional biomass of *** and *** varied with soil treatment such that *** was dominant in the high-nitrogen forest floormineral mix treatment while *** was dominant in the low-nitrogen peat-mineral ***:Operationally,care should be taken when applying fertilizer to reclamation areas,as it may have an unwanted positive effect on growth for undesirable non-native plants at the expense of native *** terms of seed mixtures,*** may be a good option for low inorganic nitrogen resource soils and *** for high nitrogen resource soils.
