Catalyst-free InGaAs nanowires grown by selective area epitaxy are promising building blocks for future optoelectronic devices in the infrared spectral *** progress,the role of pattern geometry and growth parameters on the composition,microstructure,and optical properties of InGaAs nanowires is still ***,we present an optimised growth parameter window to achieve highly uniform In1-xGaxAs nanowire arrays on GaAs(111)B substrate over an extensive range of Ga concentrations,from 0.1 to 0.91,by selective-area metal-organic vapor-phase *** observe that the Ga content always increases with decreasing In/(Ga+In)precursor ratio and group V flow rate and increasing growth *** increase in Ga content is supported by a blue shift in the photoluminescence peak *** geometry of the nanowire arrays also plays an important role in the resulting ***,increasing the nanowire pitch size from 0.6 to 2μm in a patterned array shifts the photoluminescence peak emission by up to 120 *** of these growth and geometry parameters,the Ga content determines the crystal structure,resulting in a predominantly wurtzite structure for xGa≤0.3 and a predominantly zinc blende phase for xGa≥*** insights on the factors controlling the composition of InGaAs nanowires grown by a scalable catalyst-free approach provide directions for engineering nanowires as functional components of future optoelectronic devices.

AIM To quantify drug-drug-interactions(DDIs) encountered in patients prescribed hepatitis C virus(HCV) treatment, the interventions made, and the time spent in this *** As standard of care, a clinical pharmacist screened for DDIs in patients prescribed direct acting antiviral(DAA) HCV treatment between November 2013 and July 2015 at the University of Colorado Hepatology Clinic. HCV regimens prescribed included ledipasvir/sofosbuvir(LDV/SOF), paritaprevir/ritonavir/ombitasvir/dasabuvir(OBV/PTV/r + DSV), simeprevir/sofosbuvir (SIM/SOF), and sofosbuvir/ribavirin (SOF/RBV). This retrospective analysis reviewed the work completed by the clinical pharmacist in order to measure the aims identified for the study. The number and type of DDIs identified were summarized with descriptive *** Six hundred and sixty four patients(83.4% Caucasian, 57% male, average 56.7 years old) were identified; 369 for LDV/SOF, 48 for OBV/PTV/r + DSV, 114 for SIM/SOF, and 133 for SOF/RBV. Fifty-one point five per cent of patients were cirrhotic. Overall, 5217 medications were reviewed (7.86 medications per patient) and 781 interactions identified (1.18 interactions per patient). The number of interactions were fewest for SOF/RBV (0.17 interactions per patient) and highest for OBV/PTV/r + DSV (2.48 interactions per patient). LDV/SOF and SIM/SOF had similar number of interactions (1.28 and 1.48 interactions per patient, respectively). Gastric acid modifiers and vitamin/herbal supplements commonly caused interactions with LDV/SOF. Hypertensive agents, analgesics, and psychiatric medications frequently caused interactions with OBV/PTV/r + DSV and SIM/SOF. To manage these interactions, the pharmacists most often recommended discontinuing the medication (28.9%), increasing monitoring for toxicities (24.1%), or separating administration times (18.2%). The pharmacist chart review for each patient usually took approximately 30 min, with additional time for more complex patients

AIM: To investigate the specific carbohydrate diet(SCD) as nutritional therapy for maintenance of remission in pediatric Crohn's disease(CD). METHODS: Retrospective chart review was conducted in 11 pediatric patients with CD who initiated the SCD as therapy at time of diagnosis or flare. Two groups defined as SCD simple(diet alone, antibiotics or 5-ASA) or SCD with immunomodulators(corticosteroids and/or stable thiopurine dosing) were followed for one year and compared on disease characteristics, laboratory values and ***: The mean age at start of the SCD was 11.8 ± 3.0 years(range 6.6-17.6 years) with five patients starting the SCD within 5 wk of diagnosis. Three patients maintained a strict SCD diet for the study period and the mean time for liberalization was 7.7 ± 4.0 mo(range 1-12) for the remaining patients. In both groups, hematocrit, albumin and ESR values improved while on strict SCD and appeared stable after liberalization(P-value 0.006, 0.002, 0.002 respectively). The majority of children gained in weight and height percentile while on strict SCD, with small loss in weight percentile documented with liberalization. CONCLUSION: Disease control may be attainable with the SCD in pediatric CD. Further studies are needed to assess adherence, impact on mucosal healing and growth.

Approximately 240 million people are chronically infected with hepatitis B. The implementation of rigorous vaccination programs has led to an overall decrease in the prevalence of this disease worldwide but this may also have led to emergence of viral mutations that can escape the protection of hepatitis B surface antibody. As this phenomenon is increasingly recognized, concern for transmission to vaccinated individuals has also been raised. Herein, we describe two cases where the suspected presence of a hepatitis B surface antigen escape mutation impacted the decision to initiate early antiviral therapy, as well as provide a brief review of these mutations. Our findings described here suggest that a lower threshold for initiating therapy in these individuals should be considered in order to reduce the risk of transmission, as vaccination does not provide protection.

BACKGROUND Following the successful Perioperative Surgical Home(PSH)practice for total knee arthroplasty(TKA)at our institution,the need for continuous improvement was realized,including the deimplementation of antiquated PSH elements and introduction of new *** To investigate the transition from femoral nerve blocks(FNB)to adductor canal nerve blocks(ACB)during *** Our 13-month study from June 2016 to 2017 was divided into four periods:a three-month baseline(103 patients),a one-month pilot(47 patients),a three-month implementation and hardwiring period(100 patients),and a six-month evaluation period(185 patients).In total,435 subjects were *** within 30 postoperative days were extracted from electronic medical records,such as physical therapy results and administration of oral morphine equivalents(OME).RESULTS Our institution reduced FNB application(64% to 3%)and increased ACB utilization(36% to 97%)at 10 *** in the ACB group were found to have increased ambulation on the day of surgery(4.1 vs 2.0 m)and lower incidence of falls(0 vs 1%)and buckling(5% vs 27%)compared with FNB patients(P<0.05).While ACB patients(13.9)reported lower OME than FNB patients(15.9),the difference(P=0.087)did not fall below our designated statistical threshold of P value<*** By demonstrating closure of the“knowledge to action gap”within 6 mo,our institution’s findings demonstrate evidence in the value of implementation *** education,technical support,and performance monitoring were deemed key facilitators of our program’s *** patient populations and additional orthopedic procedures are recommended for future study.
