Effect of surfactant on the dielectric and electrorheological properties of zinc borate/silicone oil dispersions

Zinc borate(ZB)particles dispersed in silicone oil(SO)at concentrations of φ=5vol%-20vol% were subjected to dielectric analysis to elucidate their polarization strength,time,and *** revealed that all virgin dispersions lacked *** X-100,a non-ionic surfactant,was added to ZB/SO dispersions to enhance the polarizability of ZB *** addition of 1vol% Triton X-100 enhanced the polarizability of ZB/SO dispersions,and the 15vol% ZB/SO system provided the highest dielectric difference Δε′(the difference in ε′values at zero and infinite frequency,Δε′=ε0–ε∝)of *** electrorheological(ER)activities of the ZB/SO/Triton-X dispersion system were determined through the ER response test,and viscoelastic behaviors were investigated via oscillation tests.A recoverable deformation of 36% under an applied electrical field strength of 1.5 kV/mm was detected through creep and creep recovery tests.

Objective: To evaluate the hypocholesterolemic and hypotriglyceridemic activities of four Marrbium vulgare(M. vulgare) herb extracts using Triton WR-1339-induced hyperlipidemia in mice. Methods: Hyperlipidemia was developed by intraperitoneal injection of Triton(200 mg/kg body weight). The animals were divided into main four groups of eight mice each: normal control group, hyperlipidemic control group, hyperlipidemic plus tween-40 control and treated group. The fourth one was divided into four subgroups, petroleum ether extract group, chloroform extract group, ethyl acetate extract group and methanol extract treated group each of them contains two sub-sub group for treating animals with two doses at 0.1 and 0.25 LD50. Results: After 7 h and 24 h of treatment, the intragastric administration of all extracts caused a significant decrease of plasma total cholesterol. Triglyceride levels were also significantly lowered by all extracts while petroleum ether produced the lowest decreasing level. Similar results were observed for LDL-cholesterol concentrations. Furthermore, more polar extracts(methanol and ethyl acetate)-soluble fractions showed a significant ameliorative action on elevated atherogenic index(AI) and LDL/HDL-C ratios, while these atherogenic markers were not statistically suppressed by the chloroform and petroleum ether-soluble extract. Conclusion: The findings indicated that Marrubium may contain polar products able to lower plasma lipid concentrations and might be beneficial in treatment of hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis.

Healthcare polypharmacy is routinely used to treat numerous conditions;however,it often leads to unanticipated bad consequences owing to complicated medication *** paper provides a graph convolutional network(GCN)-based model for identifying adverse effects in polypharmacy by integrating pharmaceutical data from electronic health records(EHR).The GCN framework analyzes the complicated links between drugs to forecast the possibility of harmful drug *** assessments reveal that the proposed GCN model surpasses existing machine learning approaches,reaching an accuracy(ACC)of 91%,an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC)of 0.88,and an F1-score of ***,the overall accuracy of the model achieved 98.47%.These findings imply that the GCN model is helpful for monitoring individuals receiving *** research should concentrate on improving the model and extending datasets for therapeutic applications.

Pistachio nut cream is a new product that was produced by mixing powdered sugar, roasted pistachio nut, defatted powdered milk, lecithin, vanilla and margarine. Pistachio nut cream was stored at 4 and 20 °C in sealed jars. Nut creams were analyzed by chemical analysis such as peroxide values （meq kgt）, total and free fatty acidity （%）, moisture content （%）, pH, 2-tiobarbutric acid and browning indices. Sensory evaluations of the cream were examined according to the color, odour, texture, taste, aroma and feelings by the panelists. Samples containing 10% and 15% pistachio nut that were stored at 4 °C were better and more acceptable with respect to the chemical properties of pistachio nut cream compared to the nut cream samples that were stored at 20 °C.

Background Cystic echinococcosis （CE） is a zoonosis caused by the cestodes of the Echinococcus species. Its life cycle involves dogs and other canids as definitive hosts for the intestinal tapeworm, as well as domestic and wild ungulates as intermediate hosts for the tissue-invading metacestode （larval） stage. The disease has a special impact on disadvantaged pastoralist communities and is listed now among the three top priority neglected tropical disease （NTD）. Therefore, CE is a neglected disease even in high endemicity regions. This study aimed at investigation of the prevalence of CE in different animals slaughtered for food consumption in Sinnar area, Blue Nile states in Sudan. Methods A survey of CE in livestock was conducted from April 2009 to March 2011 in Sinnar area, Blue Nile state in Sudan. Location, parasitological status and fertility conditions were determined. In addition, 120 hydatid cysts （30 from camels, 62 from cattle and 28 from sheep） were examined by polymerase chain reaction （PCR） and mitochondrial gene sequencing for the genetic allocation of Echinococcus strains or species Results The prevalence of CE was 29.7% （30/101） in camels, 2.7% （62/2310） in cattle and 0.6% （26/4378） in sheep. It was shown that infection rates increased with age in camels, cattle and sheep. In camels, 67% （20/30） of the infected animals were aged between 2-5 years whereas 58% （36/62） of the infected cattle were 〉5 years. In sheep, the prevalence rate was distributed equally between animals ranging 2-5 years and 〉5 years. Even though multiple cysts were found in some animals, the average number of cysts per animal was close to 1 in all examined species. Lungs were found to be the predilection sites for the parasite in both camels and cattle, while most of the cysts found in sheep were located in the liver. About 63.4% of cysts encountered in camels were considered as large （5-7 cm）, whereas those in cattle and sheep were medium （2-4 cm） and small （〈2 cm） respectively.

The aim of this study was to describe the intensive care unit (ICU) nurses’ knowledge, attitude, and practice of mouth care for their patients. This is a cross sectional hospital based study. A total of 154 ICU nurses were randomly selected from seven governmental hospitals in Khartoum state and were invited to take part in this study. 97.4% of ICU nurses had high knowledge of the importance of mouth care for ICU patients and similarly for the priority of mouth care. However, only 20% of nurses were found to apply good practice. 64.5% of the nurses received training in mouth care provision, and (81%) indicated that further training would be beneficial. The oral care practice of ICU nurses ranged between average among 57% and poor among 23%. The study highlighted the need for setting of ICU protocols and adoption of advanced training for ICU nurses.

Background: The emergence of carbapenemase producing Acinetobacter baumannii is increasingly reported nowadays and constitutes a major problem to the intensive care unit (ICU) patients with notable extensive-drug resistance ability. The study investigates carbapenemase producing A. baumannii strains exhibiting an extensively drug-resistant (XDR) phenotype, isolated from ICU patients in Khartoum. Methods: A total of 100 nonduplicate Gram-negative coccobacilli strains were obtained from microbiology laboratory of ICU patients’ clinical isolates. Molecular identification of A. baumannii was performed by targeting 16S rRNA gene using specifically designed primers. Then, XDR strains were determined by susceptibility testing (disc diffusion). For detection of carbapenemase genes Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was carried out. Result: Of 100 ICU clinical isolates, 38 (38.0%) was confirmed A. baumannii strains, those strains showed 100% carbapenem resistance and 60.5% extensive drug resistance to the antibiotics tested. The frequency of carbapenemase producer was 57.9% (22/38) of carbapenem resistance A. baumannii (CRAB). The most common carbapenemase associated with resistance was blaOXA gene followed by blaNDM and blaGES A. baumannii isolates. The co-occurrence of blaOXA-48-like and blaNDM, blaOXA-23-like and blaOXA-51, and blaNDM-1 and blaOXA-51 was detected in 22.7%, 18.2% strains and 4.5% respectively. A unique characteristic of our findings was the coharbouring of the genes blaNDM-1, blaOXA-23-like, blaOXA-51 and blaOXA-143 in 9.1% strains (2/22), and this was the first report in the Khartoum city, Sudan. Conclusion: We have demonstrated for the first time a high prevalence of XDR-carbapenemase producing A. baumannii clinical isolates from ICU patients in Khartoum. Also an emergent blaOXA-143 was reported as High-Risk Clones. This highlights the routine mentoring of XDR-carbapenemase producing A. baumannii to avoid clone dissemination in our region hospitals.
