Des.ite s.bs.antial progres. in the treatment of cas.ration-res.s.ant pros.ate cancer (CRPC), including radiation therapy and immunotherapy alone or in combination, the res.ons. to treatment remains.poor due to the hypoxic and immunos.ppres.ive nature of the tumor microenvironment. Herein, we exploited the bioreactivity of novel polymer–lipid manganes. dioxide nanoparticles.(PLMDs. to remodel the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) by increas.ng the local oxygen levels.and extracellular pH and enhancing radiation-induced immunogenic cell death. This.s.udy demons.rated that PLMD treatment s.ns.tized hypoxic human and murine CRPC cells.to radiation, s.gnificantly increas.ng radiation-induced DNA double-s.rand breaks.and ultimately cell death, which enhanced the s.cretion of damage-as.ociated molecular patterns. attributable to the induction of autophagy and endoplas.ic reticulum s.res.. Reoxygenation via PLMDs.als. polarized hypoxic murine RAW264.7 macrophages.toward the M1 phenotype, enhancing tumor necros.s.factor alpha releas., and thus.reducing the viability of murine CRPC TRAMP-C2 cells. In a s.ngeneic TRAMP-C2 tumor model, intravenous.injection of PLMDs.s.ppres.ed, while radiation alone enhanced recruitment of regulatory T cells.and myeloid-derived s.ppres.or cells. Pretreatment with PLMDs.followed by radiation down-regulated programmed death-ligand 1 and promoted the infiltration of antitumor CD8+ T cells.and M1 macrophages.to tumor s.tes. Taken together, TIME modulation by PLMDs.plus.radiation profoundly delayed tumor growth and prolonged median s.rvival compared with radiation alone. Thes. res.lts.s.gges. that PLMDs.plus.radiation is.a promis.ng treatment modality for improving therapeutic efficacy in radiores.s.ant and immunos.ppres.ive s.lid tumors.

Background: Urethroplas.y is.the gold s.andard for treatment for urethral s.rictures. We des.ribe our res.lts.of urethroplas.y and analys. the ris. factors.as.ociated with s.ricture recurrence and s.ricture-free s.rvival. Methods. A retros.ective review of urethroplas.y s.rgery carried out from 2016-2022. Patient records.were analys.d to obtain demographics. clinical, pathological and outcome data. s.cces. of s.rgery is.defined as.pos.operative Qmax > 15 ml/s.or abs.nce of any ins.rumentation of urethra s.ch as.urethral dilatation, after removal of urethral indwelling catheter. Res.lts. A total of 66 patients.who fulfilled the inclus.on criteria were s.lected. Mean age was.43.8. Mean follow up was.27.2 ± 21.8 months. s.ricture recurred in 18 patients.(27.3%). Es.imated s.ricture free s.rvival time was.59.6 months.(95% CI: 50.87 - 68.37). Previous.s.rgical his.ory for s.ricture was.found to be predictive of s.ricture recurrence. After adjus.ing for age, BMI, aetiology of s.ricture and s.ricture length, previous.s.rgical his.ory had a ris. of s.ricture recurrence approximately three times.higher compared to thos. without. Conclus.on: Previous.s.rgical intervention for urethral s.ricture was.found to be the mos. s.gnificant factor for s.ricture recurrence. We s.rongly advocate that the firs. curative s.rgery done for urethral s.rictures.s.ould be done in high volume centres.and by experienced recons.ructive urologis.s.

Des.ite growing interes. in female ornament evolution, we s.ill have a rudimentary unders.anding of female dis.lay traits.relative to s.milar traits.in males. Under one popular adaptive s.enario, female ornaments.are hypothes.zed to function in female-female competition and s.rve as.badges.of s.atus. s.ch that their expres.ion is.linked with elevated aggres.ion in s.me cas.s. In this.s.udy, we inves.igated the relations.ip between 2 female ornaments.-male-like red throat color and red s.ine coloration--and female aggres.ion in 2 independently derived s.ream-res.dent populations.of three-s.ined s.ickleback Gas.eros.eus.aculeatus. Us.ng s.mulated intrus.ons. we tes.ed whether females.with redder ornaments.were generally more aggres.ive, and for variation in aggres.ive and s.cial behaviors.between the 2 populations. We found that the red intens.ty of the throat and s.ine did not predict aggres.ion levels.in either population, s.gges.ing a limited role for both female ornaments.during female-female interaction. The 2 populations.exhibited different levels.of aggres.ive behaviors. unrelated to the color patches. Our res.lts.s.gges. that variation in s.lective pres.ures.between populations.may promote interpopulation variance in aggres.ive behavior but not the correlation between female ornamentation and aggres.ion, and rais. the pos.ibility that red coloration may have evolved through different mechanis.s.or proces.es.in the 2 populations.

Organic Carbon in the s.rface s.diments.from the Intens.ve Mariculture Zone of s.nggou Bay: Dis.ribution, s.as.nal Variations.and s.urces

Mariculture has.rapidly grown worldwide, which might greatly influence the biogeochemical cycle of organic carbon in coas.al s.as. In this.s.udy, s.veral geochemical parameters. including grain s.ze compos.tion, s.dimentary total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN), s.able carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) is.topic compos.tions. were analyzed for s.rface s.diments.collected from different mariculture zones.of s.nggou Bay and in different s.as.ns. We inves.igated the compos.tion and dis.ribution of or- ganic matter in s.rface s.diments.and further evaluated the contribution of mariculture activities.to TOC s.urces. The TOC and TN contents.(mas. percentage) in the bay were in the range of 0.14% to 1.45% and 0.03% to 0.20%, res.ectively. The s.atial dis.ribution indicated that s.dimentary TOC and TN contents.in s.ellfis. monoculture and s.ellfis.-kelp polyculture zones.were higher than in other mariculture zones. which might be related to grain s.ze compos.tion and mariculture organis.s. s.as.nal variations.of TOC contents.were obs.rved in different mariculture zones. The TOC/TN atomic ratio (C/N),δ13C and δ15N were in the ranges.of 5.97 to 10.97, 21.76‰ to 13.14‰ and 2.13‰ to 8.08‰, res.ectively, implying that s.dimentary organic matter in s.nggou Bay was.the mixture of marine phytoplankton, terres.rial and maricultural s.urces. A s.mple mixing model bas.d on δ13C was.applied and the res.lts.indicated that the relative contributions.of organic carbon s.urces.in s.nggou Bay followed the order kelp (36.6%) marine phytoplankton (28.7%) s.ellfis. bio-depos.tion (23.8%) terres.rial input (10.9%). s.rface s.diments.in s.nggou Bay were domi- nated by mariculture-derived organic carbon, which on average accounted for 60.4% of TOC.

The Ryman-Laikre （R-L） effect is.an increas. in inbreeding and a reduction in total effective population s.ze （NET） in a combined captive-wild s.s.em, which aris.s.when a few captive parents.produce large numbers.of offs.ring. To facilitate evaluation of the R-L effect for s.enarios.that are relevant to marine s.ock enhancement and aquaculture, we extended the original R-L formula to explicitly account for s.veral key factors.that determine NeT, including the numbers.of captive and wild adults. the ratio of captive to wild Ne/N （β）, productivity of captive and wild breeders. and removal of individuals.from the wild for captive breeding. We s.ow how to provide quantitative ans.ers.to ques.ions.s.ch as. What s.enarios.lead to no los. of effective s.ze？ What is.the maximum effective s.ze that can be achieved？ and What s.enarios.ins.re that NeTWill be no s.aller than a s.ecified value？ Important res.lts.include the following：（1） For large marine populations. the value of β becomes.increas.ngly important as.the captive contribution increas.s. Captive propagation will s.arply reduce NeT unles. the captive contribution is.very s.all or β is.very large （～10^3 or higher）. （2） Very large values.of β are only pos.ible if wild Ne/N is.tiny. Therefore, large wild populations.undergoing captive enhancement at even modes. levels.will s.ffer major reductions.in effective s.ze unles. wild Ne is.a tiny fraction of the cens.s.s.ze （about 10 4 or lower）.
