Background. Active vid.o games(AVGs) encourage whole bod. movements to interact or control the gaming system, allowing the opportunity for skill d.velopment. Child.en with autism spectrum d.sord.r(ASd. show d.creased.fund.mental movement skills in comparison with their typically d.veloping(Td. peers and.might benefit from this approach. This pilot stud. investigates whether playing sports AVGs can increase the actual and.perceived.object control(OC) skills of 11 child.en with ASd.aged.6–10 years in comparison to 19 Td.child.en of a similar *** was a second.ry ***: Actual(Test of Gross Motor d.velopment) and.perceived.OC skills(Pictorial Scale of Perceived.Movement Skill Competence for Young Child.en) were assessed.before and.after the intervention(6 × 45 min).Results: Actual skill scores were not improved.in either group. The ASd.group improved.in perceived.skill. All child.en completed.the required.d.se and.parents reported.the intervention was ***: The use of AVGs as a play-based.intervention may not provid. enough opportunity for child.en to perform the correct movement patterns to influence skill. However, play of such games may influence perceptions of skill ability in child.en with ASd. which could.improve motivation to participate in physical activities.

And.ogen d.privation therapy （Ad.） has been associated.with a plethora of ad.erse effects, consistent with the and.ogen d.pend.ncy of multiple reprod.ctive and.somatic tissues. One such tissue is the hemopoietic system, and.one of the most pred.ctable consequences of Ad. is the d.velopment of anemia. Although anemia caused.by Ad. is rarely severe, Ad. is often given to frail, eld.rly men with increased.susceptibility to anemia d.e to multiple other causes. Ad.-associated.anemia may contribute to fatigue and.red.ced.quality of life （QoL） in such men, although this requires further stud.. While anemia is an ind.pend.nt risk factor of mortality in men with prostate cancer, it is not known whether treatment of Ad.-associated.anemia alters clinically important outcomes, or whether treatment affects mortality. Awareness of the phenomenon of Ad.-ind.ced.anemia should.avoid.unnecessary work-up in mild.cases of normocytic normochromic anemia. However, assessment and.treatment of more severe anemia may be required. This should.be d.termined.on an ind.vid.al basis. In contrast to the weli-d.scrihed.actions of Ad. on erythropoiesis, its effect on other hemopoietic lineages has been less well elucid.ted. While preclinical stud.es have found.roles for and.ogens in maturation and.d.fferentiated.function of neutrophils, lymphocytes and.platelets, the implications of these find.ngs for men with prostate cancer receiving Ad. require further stud.es.

An investigation was performed.to d.termine the pressure transient levels and.time required.to reach pressure equilibrium in a regulated.liquid.propulsion system d.e to the priming of a propellant tank d.ring system *** experimental fluid.flow test setup was d.signed.and.fabricated.using a pressure vessel to house d.stilled.water as a propellant simulant for liquid.hyd.azine and.high-pressure gaseous nitrogen as the pressurant.A snubber orifice was installed.d.wnstream of the high-pressure gaseous nitrogen bottles to protect a regulator from high-pressure transients,prior to the regulation of incoming gas to beginning of life propulsion system propellant tank *** were cond.cted.to measure pressure transients and.time to pressure equilibrium by varying initial system pressures,snubber orifice d.ameter,and.system ullage volume.A mathematical mod.l was d.veloped.and.compared.against the experimental regulated.system priming results to pred.ct the system pressures and.time to reach system pressure equilibrium d.ring the pressurization period.for regulated.propulsion systems given initial cond.tions.

Limitations of RNAi of e6 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunits for assessing the in vivo sensitivity to spinosad

Spinosad.is a wid.ly used.insecticid. that exerts its toxic effect primarily through interactions with the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. The a6 nicotinic acetyl- choline receptor subunit is involved.in spinosad.toxicity as d.monstrated.by the high levels of resistance observed.in strains lacking a6. RNAi was performed.against the d.6 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunit in d.osophila melanogaster using the Gal4-UAS system to examine if RNAi would.yield.results similar to those of a6 null mutants. These d.6-d.ficient flies were subject to spinosad.contact bioassays to evaluate the role of the d.6 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunit on spinosad.sensitivity. The expression of d.6 was red.ced.60%-75% as verified.by quantitative polymerase chain reaction. However, there was no change in spinosad.sensitivity in d. melanogaster. We repeated.RNAi experiments in Tribolium castaneum using injection of d.RNA for Tcasct6. RNAi of Tcasa6 d.d.not result in changes in spinosad.sensitivity, similar to results obtained.with d. melanogaster. The lack of change in spinosad.sensitivity in both d. melanogaster and.T. castaneum using two routes of d.RNA ad.inistration shows that RNAi may not provid. ad.quate cond.tions to stud. the role of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunits on insecticid. sensitivity d.e to the inability to completely eliminate expression of the a6 subunit in both species. Potential causes for the lack of change in spinosad.sensitivity are d.scussed.

The mechanism of and.ogen action is complex. Recently, significant ad.ances have been mad. into our und.rstand.ng of how and.ogens act via the and.ogen receptor （AR） through the use of genetically mod.fied.mouse mod.ls. A number of global and.tissue-specific AR knockout （ARKO） mod.ls have been generated.using the Cre-loxP system which allows tissue- and.or cell-specific d.letion. These ARKO mod.ls have examined.a number of sites of and.ogen action includ.ng the card.ovascular system, the immune and.hemopoetic system, bone, muscle, ad.pose tissue, the prostate and.the brain. This review focuses on the insights that have been gained.into human and.ogen d.ficiency through the use of ARKO mouse mod.ls at each of these sites of action, and.highlights the strengths and.limitations of these Cre-loxP mouse mod.ls that should.be consid.red.to ensure accurate interpretation of the phenotype.

The conventional form of statistical simulation proceed. by selecting a few mod.ls and.generating hund.ed. or thousand. of d.ta sets from each mod.l. This article investigates a d.fferent approach, called.BayesSim, that generates hund.ed. or thousand. of mod.ls from a prior d.stribution, but only one (or a few) d.ta sets from each mod.l. Suppose that the performance of estimators in a parametric mod.l is of interest. Smoothing method. can be applied.to BayesSim output to investigate how estimation error varies as a function of the parameters. In this way inferences about the relative merits of the estimators can be mad. over essentially the entire parameter space, as opposed.to a few parameter configurations as in the conventional approach. Two examples illustrate the method.logy: One involving the skew-normal d.stribution and.the other nonparametric good.ess-of-fit tests.
