Long-term tree productivity of a South Carolina coastal plain forest across a hydrology gradient

Effect of fly ash replacement level on the fracture behavior of concrete

the production of portland cement–the key ingredient in concrete–generates a significant amount of carbon ***,due to its incredible versatility,availability,and relatively low cost,concrete is the most consumed manmade material on the *** method of reducing concrete’s contribution to greenhouse gas emissions is the use of fly ash to replace a significant amount of the *** study presents the results of an experimental investigation that evaluates effect of fly ash replacement level on the fracture energy of *** study includes four mixes with 0%,30%,50%,and 70%fly ash as a cement *** experimental program consisted of 32 fracture beams to study the fracture behavior of *** experimental fracture energies were compared with the fracture energy provisions of different design codes and also different analytical ***,statistical data analyses(parametric and non-parametric)were performed to evaluate whether or not there is any statistically significant difference between the experimental fracture energies of different *** of these statistical tests show that the mix with higher level of fly ash replacement level has higher fracture energy.

A New Species of Japalura(Squamata, Agamidae) from the Nu River Valley in Southern Hengduan Mountains, Yunnan, China

A population of Japalura from Yunnan Province, China, previously assigned to Japalura splendida, is described as a new species. the new species has been recorded between 1 138–2 500 m in the Nu River drainage between the towns of Liuku and Binzhongluo, and on the lower western slopes of the Nushan and eastern slopes of the Goaligongshan. the new species can be distinguished from other species of Japalura, except J. dymondi, by the following combination of characters： exposed tympani, prominent dorso-lateral stripes, and small gular scales. It is very similar with but differs from J. dymondi by having smooth or feebly keeled dorsal head scales, three relatively enlarged spines on either side of the post-occiput area, strongly keeled and mucronate scales on occiput area and within the lateral stripes, back of arm and leg green, higher number of dorsal-ridge scales（DS） and fourth toe subdigital scales（t4S）. A principal component analysis of body measurements of adult male specimens of the new species and J. dymondi showed principal component 1 loading highest for upper arm length, fourth toe length and snout to eye length and principal component 2 loading highest for head width, head length and fourth toe length.

为了减少温度梯度对连续配筋混凝土路面(CRCP)反演分析的影响,对CRCP在极端环境(混凝土板顶与板底温度差值|Δt|≥13.32℃)下的反演方法进行了修正.采用二维有限元软件ILLISLAB建立在不同温度差值(|Δt|=4.44,8.88,13.32,17.76℃)和FWD荷载共同作用下的CRCP双车道模型,通过有限元模型得到理论弯沉值,对原有反演方法进行可靠性验证,量化不同温度差值对反演结果的影响.结果表明:当|Δt|≥13.32℃(24)时,对横向裂缝间距大于3.0 m(10 feet)的CRCP,温度差值引起的反演参数(地基反应模量k值、混凝土弹性模量E和有效厚度heff)误差分别高达66.6%,27.8%和8.5%,难以忽略,进而提出适用于该环境下的反演方法.最后,将其应用到美国芝加哥某收费高速公路的CRCP试验段上,结果表明该路段中混凝土板与基层的层间黏结情况整体较好.

Repeated GPS surveys in Nepal and southern tibet provide a direct measurement of current crustal *** surveys have been carried out in the region by U.S.,Nepalese and Chinese scientists since 1991. We have measured(17±3)mm/year of contraction between sites in southern tibet and stable peninsular India, concentrated in a north-south zone 120 km wide at the *** and leveling observations are consistent with an abrupt transition from a slipping to locked interface at a depth of about 20 *** infer India to be underthrusting tibet at a rate of(20±3)mm/a,and predict additional elastic deformation north of our network. East-west extension of southern tibet is observed at a rate of(6±3)mm/year between Lhasa and the Mt. Everest region,and(12±3)m/a relative to western *** rate is consistent with a simple model in which the tibetan overthrust wedge extends to maintain arc - normal slip vectors all along the Himalayan *** measurements to be carried out over the next three years will refine these models and extend the spatial extent of our measurements to include more of the tibetan plateau.

Synthesis and Characterization of Crosslinked Hydrogel of Konkoli (Maesopsis eminii) Grafted Polymethylacrylamide for a Preliminary Study as an Insulin Delivery System

Polysaccharide has lately received a significant attention in the formulation of drug delivery system based on the abundant availability, non-toxicity and the various ways its nature, structure and functionality can be modified. In this preliminary work on Konkoli (Maesopsis eminii) galactomannan (KG), it was modified by grafting with methacrylamide (MAAm) using ammonium persulphate (ASP) as initiator. the grafted galactomannan was then crosslinked using N, N-methylenebisacrylamide (N, N-MBAAm) to produce the hydrogel called konkoli grafted polymethylacrylamide (KG-g-poly (MAAm)). FtIR analyses confirm crosslinking and other changes in the functionality of KG-g-poly (MAAm) compared to KG. Swelling properties which are fundamental to the potential properties of any hydrogel as a drug delivery system were studied for KG-g-poly (MAAm) with varied amount of monomer (MAAm), crosslinker and pH with respect to time and temperature. there was a rapid rise followed by a dramatic fall in the swelling capacity with increase in both monomer and crosslinker concentration. the swelling capacity of KG-g-poly (MAAm) also improves as the pH of the medium was changed from acidic to alkaline. Generally, the swelling capacity of KG-g-poly (MAAm) increases with time and temperature of immersion. this result therefore encourages further studies as it presents KG-g-poly (MAAm) potentials in such application as insulin delivery system.
