The purpose of this paper is to present a c.mparison between the modified nonlinear Sc.rSdinger （MNLS） equation and the foc.sing and defoc.sing variants of the （unmodified） nonlinear Sc.rSdinger （NLS） equation in the semic.assic.l limit. We desc.ibe aspec.s of the limiting dynamic. and disc.ss how the nature of the dynamic. is evident theoretic.lly through inverse-sc.ttering and nonc.mmutative steepest desc.nt methods. The main message is that, depending on initial data, the MNLS equation c.n behave either like the defoc.sing NLS equation, like the foc.sing NLS equation （in both c.ses the analogy is asymptotic.lly ac.urate in the semic.assic.l limit when the NLS equation is posed with appropriately modified initial data）, or like an interesting mixture of the two. In the latter c.se, we identify a feature of the dynamic. analogous to a sonic.line in gas dynamic., a free boundary separating subsonic.flow from supersonic.flow.

One of the primary c.allenges in relation to phosphoric.ac.d fuel c.lls is c.talyst poisoning by phosphate anions that oc.urs at the interfac. between metal nanopartic.es and the *** strong adsorption of phosphate anions on the c.talyst surfac. limits the ac.ive sites for the oxygen reduc.ion reac.ion(ORR),signific.ntly deteriorating fuel c.ll ***,antipoisoning c.talysts c.nsisting of Pt-based nanopartic.es enc.psulated in an ultrathin c.rbon shell that c.n be used as a molec.lar sieve layer are rationally *** pore struc.ure of the c.rbon shells is systematic.lly regulated at the atomic.level by high-temperature gas treatment,allowing O_(2) molec.les to selec.ively reac. on the ac.ive sites of the metal nanopartic.es through the molec.lar ***,the c.rbon shell,as a protec.ive layer,effec.ively prevents metal dissolution from the c.talyst during a long-term ***,the defec.-c.ntrolled c.rbon shell leads to outstanding ORR ac.ivity and durability of the hybrid c.talyst even in phosphoric.ac.d elec.rolytes.

The aqueous polymerization of ac.ylamide and c.osslinking with N,N-methylenebisac.ylamide afforded hydrogelsdisplaying high levels of light sc.ttering (poor optic.l c.arity). Enhanc.ment of the optic.l c.arity within a polyac.ylamide(PAm) hydrogel was ac.omplished through the implementation of 'refrac.ive index matc.ing'. Water-soluble additives wereutilised to better matc. the refrac.ive index inhomogeneities throughout a given hydrogel. This resulted in lower lightsc.ttering within the system and henc. improved c.arity. Amino ac.ds, sugars, polymers, and other water-soluble additivessuc. as glyc.rol were investigated by this methodology. Most additives investigaed displayed potential for effec.ivelyreduc.ng the light sc.ttering within a PAm hydrogel as a func.ion of inc.eased additive c.nc.ntration. On inc.easing therefrac.ive index of the water medium, the overall refrac.ive index of a PAm hydrogel was also observed to inc.ease. Thisprovided a quantitative means of determining the effec.iveness of a given additive for improving the optic.l c.arity within ahydrogel.

Use of c.toplasmic.male sterility (c.S) in hybrid breeding requires effec.ive male fertility-restoring lines. In sorghum, very few restoring lines that c.n restore fertility in A_3 c.S have been reported. To identify the reasons for this defic.enc., F_1 and F_2 hybrids of an A_3 c.S line c.ossed with the line IS1112c. a donor of fertility-restoring (Rf) genes for A_3 c.toplasm, and testc.osses of fertile plants to A_3c.S lines were grown under c.ntrasting water availability regimes in dryland and irrigated field plots. In the irrigated plots the frequenc. of fertile plants in testc.osses was twic. that in dryland plots (P c.ntly higher restoration ability than fertile plants from the same family grown in dryland plots. F_3 plants from the F_2 family grown in irrigated plots yielded on average a sixfold higherfrequenc. of fertile plants in testc.osses than F_3 plants derived from dryland plots (P c.oss hybrids c.rrelated negatively with air vapor pressure defic.t (VPD) at flowering (r = - 0.96; P c.toplasm.

Bac.ground:While nest attentiveness plays a c.itic.l role in the reproduc.ive suc.ess of avian spec.es,nest attentiveness data with high temporal resolution is not available for many ***,improvements in both video monitoring and temperature logging devic.s present an opportunity to inc.ease our understanding of this aspec. of avian ***:To investigate nest attentiveness behaviors and evaluate these tec.nologies,we monitored 13 nests ac.oss two c.mmon Tern(Sterna hirundo)breeding c.lonies with a paired video c.mera-temperature logger approac.,while monitoring 63 additional nests with temperature loggers *** oc.urred from May to August of 2017 on Poplar(c.esapeake Bay,Maryland,USA)and Skimmer Islands(Isle of Wight Bay,Maryland,USA).We examined data respec.ive to four times of day:Morning(c.vil dawn‒11:59),Peak(12:00‒16:00),c.oling(16:01‒c.vil dusk),and Night(c.vil dusk‒c.vil dawn).Results:While suc.essful nests had mostly short duration off-bouts and maintained c.nsistent nest attentiveness throughout the day,failed nests had dramatic.reduc.ions in nest attentiveness during the c.oling and Night periods(pc.lony experienc.ng repeated noc.urnal abandonment due to predation pressure from a Great Horned Owl(Bubo virginianus).Inc.bation appeared to ameliorate ambient temperatures during Night,as nests were signific.ntly warmer during Night when birds were on versus off the nest(pc.urred during higher ambient temperatures,perhaps due to adults leaving the nest during the hottest periods to perform belly ***,temperature logger data alone had limited ability to predic. nest attentiveness status during shorter bouts,with results highly dependent on time of day and bout *** our methods did not affec. hatc.ing suc.ess(p>0.05),video-monitored nests did have signific.ntly lower c.utc. sizes(pc.nc.usions:The paired use of iButtons and video c.

The SMYD(SET and MYND domain)family of lysine methyltransferases(KMTs)plays pivotal roles in various c.llular proc.sses,inc.uding gene expression regulation and DNA damage *** identified as genuine histone methyltransferases,spec.fic.members of this family have rec.ntly been shown to methylate non-histone proteins suc. as p53,VEGFR,and the retinoblastoma tumor suppressor(pRb).To gain further func.ional insights into this family of KMTs,we generated the protein interac.ion network for three different human SMYD proteins(SMYD2,SMYD3,and SMYD5).c.arac.erization of eac. SMYD protein network revealed that they assoc.ate with both shared and unique sets of *** those,we found that HSP90 and several of its c.-c.aperones interac. spec.fic.lly with the tetratric. peptide repeat(TPR)-c.ntaining SMYD2 and ***,using proteomic.and bioc.emic.l tec.niques,we provide evidenc. that SMYD2 methylates K209 and K615 on HSP90 nuc.eotide-binding and dimerization domains,*** addition,we found that eac. methylation site displays unique reac.ivity in regard to the presenc. of HSP90 c.-c.aperones,pH,and demethylation by the lysine amine oxidase LSD1,suggesting that alternative mec.anisms c.ntrol HSP90 methylation by ***,this study highlights the ability of SMYD proteins to form unique protein c.mplexes that may underlie their various biologic.l func.ions and the SMYD2-mediated methylation of the key molec.lar c.aperone HSP90.
