Despite a significant increase in utilization over the past decade,the number of donation after circulatory death(DCD)organs that are procured and transplanted in the United states(Us)remains well below its *** is still room for expansion,as utilizing DCD organs to the fullest extent is currently the most viable solution to the persistent mismatch between supply and demand in *** convened a multidisciplinary transplantation summit to examine various aspects of DCD,with faculty members from around the world with clinical and academic interest in DCD donation and transplantation,including abdominal and cardiothoracic surgeons,organ procurement organization directors,hepatologists,and *** conference focused on identifying barriers to DCD organ utilization and strategies to overcome these *** divide the barriers to DCD utilization into three mains categories:(Ⅰ)policy and process variation;(II)logistical and transportation challenges;and(Ⅲ)higher risk perceptions related to DCD *** each barrier,we proposed a variety of solutions,providing an overview of the status of DCD donation in the Us and suggestions on how to increase the use of *** is a specific focus on ex situ machine perfusion,normothermic regional perfusion,and other opportunities to expand DCD utilization without negatively impacting recipient outcomes.

A TV-Based Iterative Regularization Method for the solutions of Thermal Convection Problems

Linear/nonlinear and stokes based-stabilizations for the filter equations for damping out primitive variable(PV)solutions corrupted by uniformly distributed randomnoises are numerically studied through the natural convection(NC)aswell as the mixed convection(MC)*** most recognizable filter-scheme is based on a combination of the negative Laplace equation multiplied with the selection of the spatial scale and a linear function in order to preserve the uniqueness of the filtered solution.A more complicated filter-scheme,based on a stokes problem which couples a filtered velocity and a filtered(artificial)pressure(or Lagrange multiplier)in order to enforce the incompressibility constraint,is also *** and stokes basedfilters via nested iterative(NI)filters and the consistent splitting scheme(Css)are proposed for the NC/MC *** by the total-variation(TV)model of image diffusion,well preserved feature flow patterns from the corrupted NC/MC environment are obtained by TV-stokes based-filters together with the *** experimental results show that our proposed algorithms are effective and efficient in eliminating the unwanted spurious oscillations and preserving the accuracy of thermal convective fluid flows.

Robust Optimization of the Output Voltage of Nanogenerators by statistical Design of Experiments

Nanogenerators were first demonstrated by deflecting aligned ZnO nanowires using a conductive atomic force microscopy(AfM)*** output of a nanogenerator is affected by three parameters:tip normal force,tip scanning speed,and tip *** this work,systematic experimental studies have been carried out to examine the combined effects of these three parameters on the output,using statistical design of experiments.A statistical model has been built to analyze the data and predict the optimal parameter *** an AfM tip of cone angle 70°coated with Pt,and ZnO nanowires with a diameter of 50 nm and lengths of 600 nm to 1μm,the optimized parameters for the nanogenerator were found to be a normal force of 137 nN and scanning speed of 40μm/s,rather than the conventional settings of 120 nN for the normal force and 30μm/s for the scanning speed.A nanogenerator with the optimized settings has three times the average output voltage of one with the conventional settings.

Toys, Décor, and More: Evidence of Hazardous Electronic Waste Recycled into New Consumer Products

Hazardous chemicals used in electronic and electrical consumer products can re-enter commerce when these products are recycled. The objectives of this study were to 1) identify the possible sources of unexpected chemicals and elements in consumer products, including the use of recycled E-waste plastics and 2) demonstrate bromine detection with nondestructive spectroscopy as an indicator of brominated flame retardants contaminating new products via recycled waste streams. More than 1500 consumer products of diverse types purchased in 2012-2014 were examined using X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy for correlations between bromine and other elements. New electronic products were much more likely than new non-electronics to contain greater than 1000 ppm bromine, consistent with intentionally added flame retardants, while non- electronic products were more likely to contain between 5 and 100 ppm bromine, suggesting unintentional contamination. A typical suite of elements present in E-waste was found in a majority of plastic products. Two product categories, vinyl floor tiles and beaded necklaces/garlands, were explored in more detail. specific flame retardant chemicals in bead samples were identified by mass spectrometry and their distribution in beads was studied using scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. five brominated chemicals typically used as flame retardants, including BDE-209, were identified in 50 of 50 Mardi Gras beads analyzed.

Environmental stresses Modulate Abundance and Timing of Alternatively spliced Circadian Transcripts in Arabidopsis

Environmental stresses profoundly altered accumulation of nonsense mRNAs including intron-retaining （IR） transcripts in Arabidopsis. Temporal patterns of stress-induced IR mRNAs were dissected using both oscillating and non-oscillating transcripts. Broad-range thermal cycles triggered a sharp increase in the long IR CCA1 isoforms and altered their phasing to different times of day. Both abiotic and biotic stresses such as drought or Pseudomonas syringae infection induced a similar increase. Thermal stress induced a time delay in accumulation of CCA1 14Rb transcripts, whereas functional mRNA showed steady oscillations. Our data favor a hypothesis that stress-induced instabilities of the central oscillator can be in part compensated through fluctuations in abundance and out-of-phase oscillations of CCA1 IR transcripts. Taken together, our results support a concept that mRNA abundance can be modulated through altering ratios between functional and nonsense/IR transcripts. sR45 protein specifically bound to the retained CCA1 intron in vitro, suggesting that this sp!icing factor could be involved in regulation of intron retention. Transcriptomes of nonsense-mediated mRNA decay （NMD）-impaired and heat-stressed plants shared a set of retained introns associated with stress- and defense-inducible transcripts. Constitutive activation of certain stress response networks in an NMD mutant could be linked to disequilibrium between functional and nonsense mRNAs.

Urease activity and nitrogen dynamics in highly weathered soils with designer biochars under corn cultivation

The application of designer biochar has the potential to impact soil enzyme activity and soil nitrogen ***,very little is known about the mechanisms responsible for biochar-enzyme-nitrogen interaction in highly weathered *** objective of our 3-year(2016-2018)field experiment was to evaluate the effectiveness of designer biochars(DB)in enhancing urease activity(UA),total nitrogen(TN),total inorganic nitrogen(TIN),and nitrogen uptake(NU)at different growth stages(Gs)of corn in a highly weathered soil of southeastern Coastal Plain region,*** treatments have consisted of the control,100%pine chips(100PC),100%poultry litter(100PL),2:1 blend of PC and PL(PCPL),100%raw switchgrass(Panicum vaginatum,L;100RsG),and 2:1 blend of PC and RsG(PCRsG).All the designer biochar treatments were applied at the rate of 30,000 kg ha^(−1)to a Goldsboro loamy sand in *** activity,TN,TIN,and NU varied remarkably with DB(p≤0.0001)at different Gs(p≤0.0001)of *** treated with 100PL had the greatest UA(28.18μg N g^(−1)h^(−1)),TN(0.087%),and TIN(14.53 mg kg^(−1))while the least UA,TN,and TIN of 20.55μg N g^(−1)h^(−1),0.063%,and 5.42 mg kg^(−1),respectively,were observed from the *** three-year TN average increase over the control was in the order:100PL(36.8%)>100RsG(25.8%)>PCRsG(25.3%)>PCPL(23.9%)>100PC(7.1%).The greatest NU of corn of 140.4 kg N ha^(−1)was from soils treated with 100PL while the least amount of NU was from ***,our results showed promising significance for the treatment of highly weathered soils since the application of DB did enhance UA and improve TN and TIN in the soils.
