Effect of natural extract eye drops in dry eye disease rats

AIM:To investigate the therapeutic effect of natural extract eye drops containing bee venom,musk,and deer antlers in dry eye disease(DED)animal ***:Scopolamine-injected DED rats and lacrimal gland-excised rats were allocated into control,saline,and natural extract groups respectively and a normal group(lacrimal gland excision was not performed)in lacrimal gland-excised *** eye drop instillation 4 times a day for 5 d,corneal fluorescein staining(CFS)scores,tear MUC5AC levels,and tear lactic dehydrogenase(LDH)levels were ***:In scopolamine-injected rats,the natural extract-treated group had significantly lower CFS scores(1.7±0.5,4.7±1.4,3.8±1.9,P=0.006)and tear LDH levels(0.10±0.01,0.19±0.01,0.16±0.08 OD,P=0.014)but higher tear MUC5AC levels(12.9±3.7,7.9±2.0,9.7±3.6 ng/m L,P=0.041)compared with the control and saline-treated *** were no significant differences between the control and saline-treated *** lacrimal gland-excised rats,the natural extract-treated group also had lower CFS scores(4.3±1.2,11.5±2.3,9.0±1.9,P<0.001,P=0.001)and tear LDH levels(0.30±0.08,0.48±0.12,0.39±0.05 OD,P<0.05)but higher tear volume(4.3±0.9,1.9±0.7,2.8±1.1 mm,P=0.005,P=0.124)and tear MUC5 AC levels(8.2±2.0,2.9±1.2,5.4±2.2 ng/m L,P<0.001,P=0.047)compared with the control and saline-treated *** were no significant differences in the CFS scores,tear MUC5AC level,and tear LDH level between the normal and natural extracttreated ***:The natural extract consisting of bee venom,musk,and deer antlers may have effectiveness in DED treatment by restoring the damaged ocular surface,increasing tear volume,and recovering the tear mucin layer in DED rats.

Metformin booster adipocyte-targeted gene therapy for the treatment of obesity and related metabolic syndromes

Obesity has become an important public problem that endangers human conditions and urgently needs to be solved. However,most weight-loss drugs on the market have little effect and are accompanied by adverse effects such as strokes and heart ***, we construct an adipocyte-targeting polypeptide-based gene carrier consisting of an adipocyte-targeting peptide and ptoluylsulfonyl arginine-modified polylysine(ATS-PLL-RT), which can specifically bind to the prohibitin of mature *** further construct a short hairpin RNA(shRNA) to simultaneously silence fatty acid binding proteins 4 and 5(shFABP4/5).FABPs are molecular chaperones for fatty acid metabolism and storage in cells. Moreover, we introduce metformin for combined therapy. First, the metformin combination can effectively improve the efficiency of gene transfection. In addition, metformin itself has an alleviating effect on diet-induced obesity and relevant metabolic diseases. The combination treatment of obese mice with ATS-PLL-RT/shFABP4/5 and metformin achieves body weight reduction and metabolic recovery. This study provides a potentially effective strategy for the clinical treatment of obesity as well as mitigating obesity-induced metabolic syndromes.

The challenge for single-atom catalysts in various C-C cross coupling reaction exists in the development of solid supporting *** has been desired tofind a supporting material designed in molecular level to anchor a single-atom catalyst and provide high degree of dispersion and substrate access in aqueous ***,we prepared discrete cages of metal-organic polyhedra anchoring single Pd atom(MOP-BPY(Pd))and successfully performed a Suzuki-Miyaura cross coupling reaction with various substrates in aqueous *** was revealed that each tetrahedral cage of MOP-BPY(Pd)has 4.5 Pd atoms on average and retained its high degree of dispersion up to 3 months in *** coupling efficiencies of the Suzuki-Miyaura cross coupling reaction exhibited more than 90.0%for various substrates we have tested in the aqueous media,which is superior to those of the molecular Pd complex and metal-organic framework(MOF)anchoring Pd ***,MOP-BPY(Pd)was successfully recovered and recycled without performance degradation.

Optimal design of auxiliary-teeth to solve circulation current reduction of permanent magnet linear synchronous motor

A discontinuity of magnetic circuits according to the end effect is generated in the permanent magnet linear synchronous motor （PMLSM）. Due to the unbalanced back electro-motive force （EMF） and impedance produced, unbalanced current is generated. The cireulatin8 current, which is caused by a decrease in the thrust, is generated by the unbalanced current. The optimal design of auxiliary-teeth at the end of the mover was carried out to solve the unbalance of phase by using design of experiment （DOE）, and compared with the basic model through finite element analysis （FEA）. As a result, the auxiliary-teeth model compensates for the decrease of thrust caused by the unbalanced phase. Also, this model is proven to reduce the detent force by the vibration and noise of the PMLSM and copper loss caused by the circulating current.

Counter-balancing effects of Si on C partitioning and stacking fault energy of austenite in 10Mn quenching and partitioning steel

Silicon is an essential alloying element in quenching and partitioning(Q&P)steels,because it is known to suppress carbide precipitation during partitioning step and promote carbon partitioning to stabilize *** 2 wt%Si was added to 10Mn-2Al-0.2C steel,the size and fraction of the carbides formed during partitioning became smaller than in the Si-free ***,the suppression of carbide formation promoted C partitioning into austenite as ***,austenite stability was always lower with Si under the equivalent partitioning condition because Si effectively decreased the stacking fault energy of *** partitioning progressed,the both yield and tensile strengths of the Si-added steel exceeded that of the Si-free steel with the similar ductility *** was because Si was an effective solid solution strengthener,and the austenite in the Si-added steel exhibited the appropriate stability to gradually transform into martensite throughout the *** resulting strengthening effect compensated for the softening caused by martensite ***,strain hardening rate decreased continuously throughout deformation,which resulted in high tensile strength and ductility.

Electron beam deposition and characterization of thin film Ti-Ni for shape memory applications

Thin film of Ti-Ni alloy has a potential to perform the microactuation functions required in the microelectromechanical system (MEMS). It is essential, however, to have good uniformity in both chemical composition and thickness to realize its full potential as an active component of MEMS devices. Electron beam evaporation technique was employed in this study to fabricate the thin films of Ti-Ni alloy on different substrates. The targets used for the evaporation were first prepared by electron beam melting. The uniformity of composition and microstructure of the thin films were characterized by electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The mechanical property of the thin films was evaluated by the nano-indentation test. The martensitic transformation temperature was measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It is confirmed that the chemical composition of deposited thin films is identical to that of the target materials. Furthermore, results from depth profiling of the chemical composition variation reveal that the electron beam evaporation process yields better compositional homogeneity than other conventional methods such as sputtering and thermal evaporation. Microstructural observation by TEM shows that nanometer size precipitates are preferentially distributed along the grain boundaries of a few micron size grains. The hardness and elastic modulus of thin films decreases with an increase in Ti contents.

Characterization of lattice parameters gradient of Cu(In1-xGax)Se2 absorbing layer in thin-film solar cell by glancing incidence X-ray diffraction technique

In or Ga gradients in the Cu(In1-xGax)Se2(CIGS)absorbing layer lead to change the lattice parameters of the absorbing layer,giving rise to the bandgap grading in the absorbing layer which is directly associated with the degree of absorbing ability of the CIGS solar *** tried to characterize the depth profile of the lattice parameters of the CIGS absorbing layer using a glancing incidence X-ray diffraction(GIXRD)technique,and then investigate the bandgap grading of the CIGS absorbing *** the glancing incident angle increased from 0.50 to 5.00°,the a and c lattice parameters of the CIGS absorbing layer gradually decreased from 5.7776(3)to 5.6905(2)?,and 11.3917(3)to 11.2114(2)?,*** depth profile of the lattice parameters as a function of the incident angle was consistent with vertical variation in the compositionof In or Ga with depth in the absorbing *** variation of the lattice parameters was due to the difference between the ionic radius of In and Ga co-occupying at the same crystallographic *** to the results of the depth profile of the refined parameters using GIXRD data,the bandgap of the CIGS absorber layer was graded over a range of 1.222-1.532 *** approach allows to determine the In or Ga gradients in the CIGS absorbing layer,and to nondestructively guess the bandgap depth profile through the refinement of the lattice parameters using GIXRD data on the assumption that the changes of the lattice parameters or unit-cell volume follow a good approximation to Vegard’s law.

Imidazole linker‐induced covalent triazine framework-ZIF hybrids for confined hollow carbon super‐heterostructures toward a long‐life supercapacitor

Carbon super-heterostructures with high nitrogen contents from the covalent hybrid precursors of covalent triazine frameworks(CTFs)and zeolitic imidazolic frameworks(ZIFs)are scarcely explored because of CTF's ordered structure and toxic superacid that dissolves or destabilizes the metal *** solve this problem,herein,we report a straightforward two-step pathway for the covalent hybridization of disordered CTF(d–CTF)–ZIF composites via preincorporation of an imidazole(IM)linker into ordered CTFs,followed by the imidazole-site-specific covalent growth of *** carbonization of these synthesized d–CTF−IM−ZIF hybrids results in unique hollow carbon super-heterostructures with ultrahigh nitrogen content(>18.6%),high specific surface area(1663m^(2)g^(−1)),and beneficial trace metal(Co/Zn NPs)contents for promoting the redox *** proof of concept,the obtained carbon super-heterostructure(Co–Zn–NC_(SNH)–800)is used as a positive electrode in an asymmetric supercapacitor,demonstrating a remarkable energy density of 61Wh kg^(−1)and extraordinary cyclic stability of 97%retention after 30,000 cycles at the cell *** presynthetic modifications of CTF and their covalent hybridization with ZIF crystals pave the way toward new design strategies for synthesizing functional porous carbon materials for promising energy applications.

Multiple description scalable video coding based on 3D lifted wavelet transform

In this work, a new method to deal with the unconnected pixels in motion compensated temporal filtering (MCTF) is presented, which is designed to improve the performance of 3D lifted wavelet coding. Furthermore, multiple description scalable coding (MDSC) is investigated, and novel MDSC schemes based on 3D wavelet coding are proposed, using the lifting imple- mentation of temporal filtering. The proposed MDSC schemes can avoid the mismatch problem in multiple description video coding, and have high scalability and robustness of video transmission. Experimental results showed that the proposed schemes are feasible and adequately effective.
