Semicrystalline Unfused Polymer Donors with Backbone Halogenation toward Cost-Effective Organic Solar Cells

Developing novel unfused building blocks with simple synthesis and low cost is essential to advance and enrich cost-effective poly-mer donors;however,it remains a challenge due to the lack of efficient molecular strategies.Herein,a class of low-cost and fully unfused polymer donors with precisely regulated backbone planarity via halogenation was designed and synthesized,namely PDTBTBz-2H,PDTBTBz-2F,and PDTBTBz-2Cl.These polymer donors possess a four-step synthesis route with over 80%yield from cheap raw chemicals comparable to existing low-cost polymer donors,such as PTQ10.Benefitting from the planar backbone via in-corporating the F…S non-covalent interactions,PDTBTBz-2F exhibits more robust J-type aggregation in solution and a long-ranged molecular stacking in film relative to PDTBTBz-2H and PDTBTBz-2Cl.Moreover,the systematical study of PDTBTBz-based organic so-lar cells(OSCs)reveals the close relationship between optimized molecular self-assembly and charge separation/transport regarding backbone halogenation when paired with the non-fullerene acceptor(Y6-BO-4F).As a result,the photovoltaic devices based on semicrystalline PDTBTBz-2F achieved a promising power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 12.37%.Our work highlighted the influence of backbone halogenation on the molecular self-assembly properties and a potential unfused backbone motif for further developing cost-effective OSCs.

Lignocellulosic nanofibers(LCNFs),implying lignin-containing cellulose fibers,maintain the prop-erties of both lignin and cellulose,which are hydrophobic and hydrophilic,respectively.The pres-ence of hydrophobic lignin in LCNFs is expected to be an economical and attractive option that can improve the thermal and mechanical properties of polymers.Thus,this study was conducted to produce lignin-rich LCNFs from sugar-rich waste obtained from rice husks after acidic pretreat-ment.The LCNFs were produced from the lignin-rich solid fractions obtained after pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis,which were then incorporated as an additive into a chitosan-based film.The variations in lignin content in the range of approximately 50.6%-66.8%in differently obtained LCNFs gave significantly different optical strengths and mechanical properties.These controllable processes may allow for customized film formation.Additionally,the glucose-rich liquid fractions obtained after pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis were used as a substrate for ethanol fermentation to achieve total utilization of rice husk biomass waste.In conclusion,the lignin-rich biomass fraction holds promise as a suitable material for chitosan-LCNF film and has the potential to increase the economic feasibility of the biomaterial industry.

Obesity is prevalent within the inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)population,particularly in newly developed countries.Several epidemiological studies have suggested that 15%-40%of IBD patients are obese,and there is a potential role of obesity in the pathogenesis of IBD.The dysfunction of mesenteric fat worsens the inflammatory course of Crohn’s disease and may induce formation of strictures or fistulas.Furthermore,obesity may affect the disease course or treatment response of IBD.Given the increasing data supporting the pathophysiologic and epidemiologic relationship between obesity and IBD,obesity control is being suggested as a novel management for IBD.Therefore,this review aimed to describe the influence of obesity on the outcomes of IBD treatment and to present the current status of pharmacologic or surgical anti-obesity treatments in IBD patients.

Counter-balancing effects of Si on C partitioning and stacking fault energy of austenite in 10Mn quenching and partitioning steel

Silicon is an essential alloying element in quenching and partitioning(Q&P)steels,because it is known to suppress carbide precipitation during partitioning step and promote carbon partitioning to stabilize austenite.When 2 wt%Si was added to 10Mn-2Al-0.2C steel,the size and fraction of the carbides formed during partitioning became smaller than in the Si-free counterpart.Moreover,the suppression of carbide formation promoted C partitioning into austenite as expected.However,austenite stability was always lower with Si under the equivalent partitioning condition because Si effectively decreased the stacking fault energy of austenite.As partitioning progressed,the both yield and tensile strengths of the Si-added steel exceeded that of the Si-free steel with the similar ductility level.This was because Si was an effective solid solution strengthener,and the austenite in the Si-added steel exhibited the appropriate stability to gradually transform into martensite throughout the deformation.The resulting strengthening effect compensated for the softening caused by martensite recovery.Consequently,strain hardening rate decreased continuously throughout deformation,which resulted in high tensile strength and ductility.

Standardized ileal digestible lysine requirements based on growth performance and histochemical characteristics of male broilers from 10 to 21 d of age

The growth performance and histochemical characteristics of breast muscle fibers were used to estimate the standardized ileal digestible(SID)Lys requirements for 10-to 21-d-old male broilers.Three hundred and sixty 10-d-old Ross 308 broilers(290±16.6 g)were allocated to 6 diets in a randomized complete block design with 6 replicate cages per treatment and 10 birds per cage.The 6 experimental diets were formulated to contain equally spaced increasing levels of SID Lys from 0.86%to 1.36%.The data were analyzed using the MIXED procedure of SAS.The Lys requirements were estimated by the NLIN procedure of SAS.An increase in dietary SID Lys from 0.86%to 1.36%resulted in a quadratic increase(P<0.05)in body weight gain(BWG),gain to feed ratio(G:F),breast weight,muscle cross-sectional area(MCSA),and fiber area.The SID Lys requirements based on the one-slope broken-line,quadratic line,the first intercept between the plateau of the one-slope broken-line and quadratic-line models and 95%of the upper asymptote of the quadratic-line model were estimated to be 1.01%,1.19%,1.08%,and 1.13%for BWG,1.06%,1.22%,1.11%,and 1.16%for G:F,1.10%,1.29%,1.19%,and 1.22%for breast weight,1.06%,1.22%,1.12%,and 1.16%for MCSA,and 1.14%,1.22%,1.16%,and 1.16%for breast muscle fiber area,respectively.It was concluded that the SID Lys requirements for broilers at the age of 10 to 21 d depended on the response variables used for estimation,and that histochemical characteristics of breast muscle fibers could be good indicators for estimating SID Lys requirements.

Development of 3D bicontinuous metal-intermetallic composites through subsequent alloying process after liquid metal dealloying

This study presents a novel process for the fabrication of metal-intermetallic composites with a 3D bicontinuous structure, achieved through a combination of liquid metal dealloying(LMD) and subsequent alloying. Initially, porous Ti structures are produced using the LMD process, followed by immersion in a molten Mg-3Al(wt%) metal. Due to the higher thermodynamic miscibility of Al with Ti compared to Mg, the concentration of Al in the Ti matrix increases as the immersion time increases. This results in a sequential phase transition within the Ti matrix: α-Ti → Ti_(3)Al → Ti Al. The phase transition considerably affects the hardness and strength of the composite material,with the Mg-Ti_(3)Al-Ti Al composite exhibiting a maximum hardness nearly twice as high as that of the conventional Mg-Ti composite. This innovative process holds potential for the development of various bicontinuous metal-intermetallic composites.

Control of chemical composition and incorporation of multiple metallic elements into a single metal nanoparticle(NP)in an alloyed or a phase-segregated state hold potential scientific merit;however,developing libraries of such structures using effective strategies is challenging owing to the thermodynamic immiscibility of repelling constituent metallic elements.Herein,we present a one-pot interfacial plasma-discharge-driven(IP-D)synthesis strategy for fabricating stable high-entropy-alloy(HEA)NPs exhibiting ultrasmall size on a porous support surface.Accordingly,an electric field was applied for 120 s to enhance the incorporation of multiple metallic elements(i.e.,CuAgFe,CuAgNi,and CuAgNiFe)into ally HEA-NPs.Further,NPs were attached to a porous magnesium oxide surface via rapid cooling.With solar light as the sole energy input,the CuAgNiFe catalyst was investigated as a reusable and sustainable material exhibiting excellent catalytic performance(100%conversion and 99% selectivity within1 min for a hydrogenation reaction)and consistent activity even after 20 cycles for a reduction reaction,considerably outperforming the majority of the conventional photocatalysts.Thus,the proposed strategy establishes a novel method for designing and synthesizing highly efficient and stable catalysts for the convertion of nitroarenes to anilines via chemical reduction.

BACKGROUND Bone marrow(BM)suppression is one of the most common side effects of radiotherapy and the primary cause of death following exposure to irradiation.Despite concerted efforts,there is no definitive treatment method available.Recent studies have reported using mesenchymal stromal cells(MSCs),but their therapeutic effects are contested.AIM We administered and examined the effects of various amounts of adipose-derived MSCs(ADSCs)in mice with radiation-induced BM suppression.METHODS Mice were divided into three groups:Normal control group,irradiated(RT)group,and stem cell-treated group following whole-body irradiation(WBI).Mouse ADSCs(mADSCs)were transplanted into the peritoneal cavity either once or three times at 5×10^(5) cells/200μL.The white blood cell count and the levels of,plasma cytokines,BM mRNA,and BM surface markers were compared between the three groups.Human BM-derived CD34+hematopoietic progenitor cells were co-cultured with human ADSCs(hADSCs)or incubated in the presence of hADSCs conditioned media to investigate the effect on human cells in vitro.RESULTS The survival rate of mice that received one transplant of mADSCs was higher than that of mice that received three transplants.Multiple transplantations of ADSCs delayed the repopulation of BM hematopoietic stem cells.Anti-inflammatory effects and M2 polarization by intraperitoneal ADSCs might suppress erythropoiesis and induce myelopoiesis in sub-lethally RT mice.CONCLUSION The results suggested that an optimal amount of MSCs could improve survival rates post-WBI.

Male metaplastic breast cancer with poor prognosis:A case report

BACKGROUND Metaplastic breast cancer(MBC)is a rare subtype of breast cancer.They constitute less than 1%of breast cancer cases and are much rarer in males.There are few reports of MBC because of its rarity.MBC,an aggressive type of cancer,is refractory to common treatment modalities of breast cancer and has a poor prognosis.CASE SUMMARY We report a case of MBC in a 78-year-old man.He visited our clinic with a palpable mass on the left breast with no masses in the axillary areas.He had previously undergone robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer,but there was no family history of malignancy.The breast mass was visible on ultrasonography,mammography,and magnetic resonance imaging,and chest computed tomography revealed a lung mass in the posterior basal segment of the right lower lobe.The patient was diagnosed with metaplastic carcinoma on core needle biopsy with lung metastasis.Total mastectomy with sentinel lymph node biopsy and video-assisted segmentectomy of the right lung was performed.However,multiple metastases appeared 3 mo after surgery in the brain,chest,and abdomen,and the patient died 5 mo after the initial diagnosis.CONCLUSION MBC is an aggressive and extremely rare breast cancer type.Further case reports are needed to determine the optimal treatment.

What is the appropriate strategy for diagnosing NAFLD using ultrasonography in obese children?

Background:The aim of this study is to identify obese children who are candidates for a potential diagnosis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).Methods:We enrolled 242 obese children (122 boys and 120 girls) aged 7-16 years who were examined with abdominal ultrasonography in our pediatric obesity clinic.We compared patients in the normal group with those in the NAFLD group (mild disease,moderate to severe disease) and identified the optimal anthropometric parameters among height,weight,body mass index (BMI),waist circumference,hip circumference,waist to height ratio (WHtR),and waist to hip ratio to predict NAFLD using a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis.We also investigated risk factors associated with NAFLD for the anthropometric parameters and the biochemical model using logistic regression.Results:The high-and low-risk groups for hepatic steatosis relative to a WHtR of 0.56 as the standard point showed significant differences in hepatic steatosis severity grade (P0.56 (2.25,1.05-4.81),and waist circumference >90th percentile (20.22,9.21-44.36) in the anthropometric parameter model and elevated alanine aminotransferase levels (boys >25.8 U/L,girls >22.1 U/L) (6.93,2.52-19.03),hypertriglyceridemia (>110 mg/dL) (3.80,1.23-11.75),and triglyceride to HDL cholesterol ratio >3 (9.23,2.95-8.83) in the biochemical parameter model.Conclusions:A diagnostic approach to hepatic steatosis is recommended as part of the proper screening and stratification of risk factors in obese children.WHtR is a simple and convenient method of effectively identifying obese children who are candidates for hepatic steatosis screening.
