h.V clinic caregivers’ spiritual and religious attitudes and beh.viors

Based on prior research. we h.poth.sized th.t staff in an outpatient clinic caring for an h.V patient population migh. rely on religious and spiritual frameworks to cope with.th. strains of th.ir work and th.t th.ir responses to a spiritual and religious survey migh. reflect work-related spiritual distress. Surveys were completed by 78.7% of staff (n = 59). All respondents scored in th. "moderate"range for religious and spiritual well-being as well as existential satisfaction with.living. Th. large majority agreed th.t th. religious and spiritual concerns of patients h.ve a place in patient care. Nurses, (88.2% of nurse respondents) viewed assessing th. spiritual needs of patients as th.ir responsibility, (p = 0.03). Wh.le 82% of h.V clinic respondents privately prayed for patients always, often or sometimes, th.s did not include ph.sicians. Ph.sicians in th.s clinic setting appeared to be less spiritual and religious, based on th.ir survey responses, th.n coworkers and th.n US ph.sicians in general. Th. majority of clinic ph.sicians (78%) believed th.t God does not suffer with.th. suffering patients, in contrast to th. majority of support staff (69%) and nearly h.lf of th. nurses, wh. believed th.t God does suffer with.th.m, (p = 0.018). Contrary to our expectation, respondents did not report work-related spiritual distress, wh.ch.may be related to improved th.rapies th.t can prolong and improve patients’ lives. Survey data revealed, h.wever, a surprising level of engagement in and reliance on spiritual and religious frameworks among nurses and support staff. Wh.th.r th. absence of measured spiritual distress is linked, in a causal rath.r th.n random manner, to spiritual and religious reliance by certain of th.se h.alth.care providers, is unknown.

Th. accumulation and aggregation of alph.-synuclein(α-syn)in several tissue including th. brain is a major path.logical h.llmark in Parkinson’s disease(PD).In th.s study,we sh.w th.t α-syn can be taken up by primary h.man cortical neurons,astrocytes and skin-derived fibroblasts in *** findings th.t brain and periph.ral cells exposed to α-syn can lead to impaired mitoch.ndrial function,leading to cellular degeneration and cell death.provides additional evidence for th. involvement of mitoch.ndrial dysfunction as a mech.nism of toxicity of α-syn in h.man cells.

Fatigue in multiple sclerosis is a frequent and disabling symptom th.t can interfere in daily functioning. Th. aim of th.s study is to demonstrate th. relationsh.p between fatigue and disability, disease course, depression and quality of life. We administered French.valid versions of th. Fatigue Impact Scale (EMIF- SEP), th. sh.rt form of th. Beck depression inventory (13 items) and th. SF- 36 to 237 out of 312 patients with.clinically definite multiple sclerosis with.EDSS ≤ 6.5. Th. EMIF- SEP is composed of four dimensions (cognitive, ph.sical, social role and psych.logical) and allows a multidimensional evaluation. Using a multivariate analysis, EMIF- SEP total scores with.ph.sical and social role subscales were h.gh.y correlated with.EDSS (p h.logical dimensions of th. EMIF- SEP were not linked to EDSS. EMIF- SEP was not correlated with.disease course after adjusting for ***- SEP scores were significantly associated with.depression scores (r = 0.74, p h. multivariate analysis also sh.wed a significant impact of fatigue on each.scale of quality of life of th. SF- 36. Th.se data confirm th.t fatigue is correlated with.disability, but cognitive and psych.logical dimensions of fatigue remain independent. Fatigue is also associated with.depression and quality of life.

Th. identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at th. Large h.dron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and search.s for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes th. measurement of th. efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed with.n th. ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with.an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by th. ATLAS *** taggers with.h.gh.performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on th. number of inner-detector tracks associated with.th. jet,and th. oth.r combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A meth.d is establish.d to determine th. quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enrich.d subsamples defined by th. jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with.transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.
