Effectiveness, safety, and drug sustainability of biologics in elderly patients with inflammatory bowel disease: A retrospective study

BACKGROUND Biologic therapy resulted in a significant positive impact on the management of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) however data on the efficacy and side effects of these therapies in the elderly is *** To evaluate retrospectively the drug sustainability, effectiveness, and safety of the biologic therapies in the elderly IBD *** Consecutive elderly(≥ 60 years old) IBD patients, treated with biologics [infliximab(IFX), adalimumab(ADAL), vedolizumab(VDZ), ustekinumab(UST)] followed at the McGill University Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Center were included between January 2000 and *** was measured by clinical scores at 3, 6-9 and 12-18 mo after initiation of the biologic therapy. Patients completing induction therapy were included. Adverse events(AEs) or serious AE were collected during and within three months of stopping of the biologic *** We identified a total of 147 elderly patients with IBD treated with biologicals during the study period, including 109 with Crohn’s disease and 38 with ulcerative colitis. Patients received the following biologicals: IFX(28.5%), ADAL(38.7%), VDZ(15.6%), UST(17%). The mean duration of biologic treatment was 157.5(SD = 148) wk. Parallel steroid therapy was given in 34% at baseline,19% at 3 mo, 16.3% at 6-9 mo and 6.5% at 12-18 mo. The remission rates at 3, 6-9 and 12-18 mo were not significantly different among biological therapies. Kaplan-Meyer analysis did not show statistical difference for drug sustainability(P = 0.195), time to adverse event(P = 0.158) or infection rates(P = 0.973) between the four biologics studied. The most common AEs that led to drug discontinuation were loss of response, infusion/injection reaction and *** Current biologics were not different regarding drug sustainability, effectiveness, and safety in the elderly IBD population. Therefore, we are not able to suggest a preferred sequencing order among biologicals.

This paper presents a new model of scenarios, dedicated to the specification and verification of system be- haviours in the context of software product lines （SPL）. We draw our inspiration from some techniques that are mostly used in the hardware community, and we show how they could be applied to the verification of software components. We point out the benefits of synchronous languages and mod- els to bridge the gap between both worlds.

Zirconium monohydride bonded to the framework oxygen of MCM-41 surface was prepared by the reaction of tetraneopentyl zirconium with MCM-41 surface hydroxyl groups, followed by the hydrogenolysis of the resulted product. The surface hydride was characterized by using infrared spectroscopy, solid-state NMR, elemental analysis, gas-phase chromatography and chemical probing reaction. It was shown that this surface species is stable below 150 ’C and can catalytically crack alkanes into methane and ethane at 100 .

Angiosperms sexual reproduction involves interactions between the two female gametes in the embryo sac and the two male gametes released by the pollen tube. The two synergids of the embryo sac express the FERONIA/SIRENE receptor-like kinase, which controls the discharge of the two sperm cells from the pollen tube. FER/SRN may respond to a ligand from the pollen tube. Alternatively, the interaction between FER/SRN and a ligand from the embryo sac may lead to a state of competence of the synergids allowing pollen tube discharge. Here, we report the new mutant scylla （syl） impaired in the control of pollen tube discharge. This mutant also produces autonomous endosperm development in ab- sence of fertilization--a trait associated with the FERTILIZATION INDEPENDENT SEED （FIS） mutant class. This led us to iden- tify autonomous endosperm in srn mutants and to demonstrate synergistic interactions between srn and the fis mutants. In addition, the fis mutants display defects in pollen tube discharge as in srn and syl mutants, confirming the interaction between the two pathways. Our findings suggest that pollen tube discharge is controlled by an interaction between the synergids expressing SRN/FER and the central cell expressing FIS genes.

High-quality data remains scarce in terms of optimal management strategies in the elderly inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)***,available trials have been mostly retrospective,of small sample size,likely owing to underrepresentation of such a population in the major randomized controlled ***,in the last five years,there has been a steady increase in the number of published trials,helping clarify the estimated benefits and toxicity of the existing IBD *** the Everhov trial,prescription strategies were recorded over an average follow-up of 4.2 years.A minority of elderly IBD patients(1%-3%)were treated with biologics within the five years following diagnosis,whilst almost a quarter of these patients were receiving corticosteroid therapy at year five of follow-up,despite its multiple *** low use of biologic agents in real-life settings likely stems from limited data suggesting lower efficacy and higher *** minireview will aim to highlight current outcome measurements as it portends the elderly IBD patient,as well as summarize the available therapeutic strategies in view of a growing body of evidence.

Forecasting pest risk level in roses greenhouse:Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system vs artificial neural networks

The purpose of this study is to establish a system for the prediction of the pests’risk level in a roses greenhouse by applying Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs)and an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System(ANFIS).Pests in roses greenhouses are known to be fatal to plants if not detected at a premature *** detection could avoid huge agronomic and eco-nomic ***,it could be a difficult task to *** complexities arising from the interactions between variables influencing the development could be a barrier to fulfill the previously mentioned *** output of the developed system represents the next day?s risk level of Western flower Thrips(WFT)(Frankliniella occidentalis)in a roses *** explanatory variables,such as internal temperature,internal humidity,today’s pest risk level and human intervention have been considered for this *** main contributions of this study are three fold;providing a daily estimate WFT risk level,reduc-ing the use of pesticides and finally mitigating yield *** obtained results were com-pared to each other and to real *** performance of the models has been evaluated by 3 statistical *** results showed conspicuous performance of both models,indicating their efficiency for pest *** novelty associated with the sys-tem is the creation of decision support tool for daily risk assessment of *** on a small number of variables,this system is a monitoring tool which contributes to help farm-ers early reveal warning *** addition,this is a first attempt to employ ANNs and ANFIS for the prediction of WFT。

Carbon storage and net primary productivity in Canadian boreal mixedwood stands

Canadian boreal mixedwood forests are extensive,with large potential for carbon sequestration and storage;thus,knowledge of their carbon stocks at different stand ages is needed to adapt forest management practices to help meet climate-change mitigation *** stocks were quantified at three Ontario boreal mixedwood sites.A harvested stand,a juvenile stand replanted with spruce seedlings and a mature stand had total carbon stocks(±SE)of 133±13 at age 2,130±13 at age 25,and 207±15 Mg C ha^-1 at age 81 *** the clear-cut site,stocks were reduced by about 40%or 90 Mg C ha^-1 at *** held 27,34 and 62%of stocks,while detritus held 34,29 and 13%of stocks at age 2,25 and 81,*** soil carbon stocks averaged 51 Mg C ha^-1,and held 38,37 and 25%of *** net primary productivity(±SE)in the harvested and juvenile stand was 2.1±0.2 and 3.7±0.3 Mg C ha^-1 per annum(p.a.),compared to 2.6±2.5 Mg C ha^-1 *** the mature *** mature canopies studied had typical boreal mixedwood composition and mean carbon densities of 208 Mg C ha^-1,which is above average for managed Canadian boreal forest ecosystems.A comparison of published results from Canadian boreal forest ecosystems showed that carbon stocks in mixedwood stands are typically higher than coniferous stands at all ages,which was also true for stocks in vegetation and ***,aboveground net primary productivity was typically found to be higher in mixedwood than in coniferous boreal forest stands over a range of *** from this study,together with those published from the other boreal forest stands demonstrate the potential for enhanced carbon sequestration through modified forest management practices to take advantage of Canadian boreal mixedwood stand characteristics.

Peculiar and unique growth mechanisms involved in semiconductor nanowires(NWs)pave the way to the achievement of new crystallographic phases and remarkable material properties,and hence,studying polytypism in semiconductor NWs arouses a strong interest for the next generation of electronic and photonic *** this context,the growth of ZnS nanowires has been investigated,as bulk ZnS compound exhibits numerous unstable polytypes at high temperatures,but their stable occurrence is highly anticipated in a nanowire due to its special quasi-dimensional shape and growth *** this work,the idea is to provide a change in the growth mechanism via the physical state of catalyst droplet(liquid or solid)and hence,study the induced structural modifications in ZnS *** HRTEM images of VLS(via liquid alloyed catalyst)grown ZnS NWs show periodic stacking faults,which is precisely identified as a stacking sequence of cubic or hexagonal individual planes leading to an astonishing 15R crystal *** crystallographic phase is observed for the first time in ***,NWs grown with VSS(via solid catalyst)show crystal polytypes of zinc blende and *** calculate and discuss the role of cohesive energies in the formation of such ZnS ***,we present the selection rules for the crystallization of such 15R structure in NWs and discuss the involved VLS and VSS growth mechanisms leading to the formation of different crystal phases.

Helpfulness of the combination of acetic acid and FICE in the detection of Barrett's epithelium and Barrett's associated neoplasias

AIM:To investigate the mucosal morphology in Barrett's oesophagus by chromo and magnifying ***:A prospective pilot study at a tertiary medical centre was conducted to evaluate the use of acetic acid pulverisation combined with virtual chromoendoscopy using Fujinon intelligent chromoendoscopy(FICE) for semiological characterization of the mucosal morphology in Barrett's oesophagus and its neoplastic *** endoscopy using high definition whitelight,2% acid acetic pulverisation and FICE with high definition videoendoscopy were performed in 20 patients including 18 patients who presented with aspects of Barrett's oesophagus at endoscopy *** patients used as controls had normal endoscopy and histological ***,videos were watched blind from histological results by three trained FICE technique ***:The videos of patients with high-grade dysplasia showed an irregular mucosal pattern in 14% using high definition white light endoscopy and in 100% using acid acetic-FICE *** did not identify irregular vascular patterns using high definition white light endoscopy,while acid acetic-FICE combined visualised one in 86% of ***:Combined acetic acid and FICE is a promising method for screening high-grade dysplasia and early cancer in Barrett's oesophagus.

Circulation Retrieval of Wake Vortices under Rainy Conditions with an X Band Radar

At airports, runway operation is the limiting factor for the overall throughput; specifically the fixed and overly conservative ICAO wake turbulence separation minima. The wake turbulence hazardous flows can dissipate quicker because of decay due to air turbulence or be transported out of the way on oncoming traffic by cross-wind, yet wake turbulence separation minima do not take into account wind conditions. Indeed, for safety reasons, most airports assume a worst-case scenario and use conservative separations; the interval between aircraft taking off or landing therefore often amounts to several minutes. However, with the aid of accurate wind data and precise measurements of wake vortex by radar sensors, more efficient intervals can be set, particularly when weather conditions are stable. Depending on traffic volume, these adjustments can generate capacity gains, which have major commercial benefits. This paper presents the use of Electronic scanning radar for detecting wake vortices. In this method, the raindrops Doppler spectrogram is used to retrieve the strength of the wake vortex. Numerical simulation are performed to establish an empirical model used during the retrieval method. This paper presents also the results obtained during the trials of the PARIS-CDG data set recorded from October 2014 to November 2015 with an X-band RADAR developed and deployed by THALES.
