Background: There is a need for data on epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects of ventricular septal defect among children in?Sub-Saharan Africa. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence, epidemioclinical, echocardiographic, therapeutic and evolutionary aspects of ventricular septal defects (VSD) in the pediatric department of the University Hospital Center (CHUSS) of Bobo-Dioulasso. Methods: This study was a descriptive cross-sectional study, conducted from November 2013 to December 2016. All children aged 1 to 179 months seen at the pediatric consultation in CHUSS were included. CIV was confirmed with Doppler echocardiography. Results: Out of 36,240 children who received consultation in the pediatric ward of CHUSS during the study period, one hundred (100) cases of them had congenital heart disease representing a hospital prevalence of 2.76%. This was diagnosed with Doppler echocardiography. Of these, 88% were VSD isolated or associated with other cardiac malformations. Isolated form was reported in 54.3% of cases. The average?age at diagnosis was 39.6 months. The sex ratio was 1.05. Perimembranous topography and hemodynamic type 2 were the highest, representing 56.8% and 35.2% respectively. The indication for surgical repair was recommended for 81.8% of the cases, but only 9.7% of these cases benefited from cardiac surgery. The rest were for medicalcare with a high proportion of lost to follow-up (48.9%). Conclusion: VSD is the most common congenital heart disease. Its care is mainly surgical. This cardiac surgery is non-existent in Burkina Faso. The design of multidisciplinary strategies associated with an optimization of the means of the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa could improve the management of this cardiopathy.

Necrotizing Fasciitis in Low Income Countries: About 23 Cases of Bujumbura Hospitals

Background: Necrotizing fasciitis is a rapidly spreading soft tissue infection involving the deep facial layers. It can cause secondary necrosis leading to significant morbidity and mortality. The most important predictor of mortality is a delay in diagnosis. In low income countries, that delay must be high and other predictors of morbidity and mortality must be pointed out. Objective: To determine necrotizing fasciitis (NF) prognostic factors in a low income country. Patients and Methods: It is a prospective and descriptive study conducted over a one-year period from November 1, 2017 to November 1, 2018 about 23 cases of necrotizing fasciitis in two hospitals of Bujumbura. Results: The incidence of necrotizing fasciitis in these 2 hospitals (Kamenge Teaching Hospital and Prince Regent Charles Hospital) was 1%. The average age of patients was 41.76 years. Males were predominant with a sex ratio of 1.55. The risk factors for NF were: NSAIDs in 39%;HIV infection in 13%, diabetes mellitus in 4% and high blood pressure in 4%. The average time from symptoms onset to admission was 17.13 days. The mean time from admission to surgical treatment was 4 days with extremes of 1 to 22 days. The most affected site was the lower limb in 82% of cases. All patients (96%) were treated with necrotic tissue debridement. It was associated with skin grafting in 48% of cases. One patient (4%) with diabetes mellitus and HIV infection was amputated. The mortality rate was 22% (n = 5). Among those 5 patients, there was a combination of risk factors (diabetes mellitus, NSAID use and HIV infection) in 80% (n = 4), 60% (n = 3) were over 60 years of age and 60% (n = 3) were operated 10 days after the onset of symptoms. Indices of Water Quality and Pesticide Monitoring Survey in Lake of Western Cote d’Ivoire and Its Human Risk Assessment

The aims of the work were to study the current quality of the water in Lake DOHOU used for drinking water supply through several physical, chemical analyses and using water quality indices (WQI). In addition, the question was whether the populations are at risk after drinking water of lake following a reduction of 50% and 75% in the median and maximum values of pesticides. Thus, the results of the pesticide monitoring program were incorporated into probabilistic human health risk assessment exercises. Water samples were collected over a period of one year. Pesticides were subjected to solid phase extraction and then analyzed using gas chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectroscopy. The other parameters were measured according to conventional methods. The results showed that the most frequently detected pesticides were aldicarb (79%), simazine (79%) and monolinuron (44%). They also showed the mean values of concentrations exceeding 1.5 μg/L. Metoxuron detected at a frequency of 29% showed the maximum average concentration (13.46 μg/L). Nearly 98% of the sampling points had at least one substance with an average concentration above the quality standard (0.1 μg/L) and 80% did not meet the total concentration standards. Cumulative risk quotient estimates after 50% or 75% abatement for frequently identified pesticides were greater than unity when extreme?values for adults and children were considered. To determine the suitability of water for aquatic life, drinking water consumption and drinking water production, the water quality index (WQI), the heavy metal pollution (HPI) and the heavy metal evaluation (HEI) were calculated. The poor quality of the water was mainly related to pesticides, organic matter and microbiological parameters. Most of the nutrients and metals studied were often below the standards of drinking water and aquatic life. Macrozoospermia,characterized by the presence of largeheaded spermatozoa usually carrying several flagella,is one of the most severe phenotypes of male *** in most cases,the gametes are chromosomally abnormal and cannot be used for assisted reproductive technologies(ART)(Ray et al.,2017).In 2007,subjects from consanguineous families were shown to carry the same homozygous deleterious AURKC variant(NM_001015878.2:c.144delC,later renamed c.145delC,***49TrpfsTer23),establishing AURKC as the first and main gene associated with macrozoospermia(Dieterich et al.,2007).Using flow cytometry,all spermatozoa from patients homozygous for the c.145delC variant were shown to be tetraploid,highlighting a cytokinesis blockage of the first meiotic divisions thus confirming that ART cannot be successful for these patients(Dieterich et al.,2009).

Polymers typically have intrinsic thermal conductivity much lower than other materials. Enhancement of this property may be obtained by the addition of conductive fillers. In this research, epoxy nanocomposites with exfoliated graphite nanoplatelets are prepared and characterized. The chosen approach requires no surface treatment and no sophisticated equipments allowing one to produce composites on a pilot scale. A significant increase of the thermal conductivity with the increasing of the graphite fillers content is nevertheless observed on 4 mm thick specimens. Our results viewed in the latest scientific findings suggest that the choice of resin is an important parameter to move towards composite materials with high thermal conductivity.
