Prosthetic Impingement in Total Hip Arthroplasty—The Trigger for Adverse Wear

Development of total hip arthroplasty (THA) now spans more than 5 decades encompassing combinations of metal-on-metal (MOM), ceramic-on-metal (COM), metal-on-plastic (MOP), ceramic-on-plastic (COM), and ceramic-on-ceramic (COC). In every arena of extensive technical development, there exists a data set that when viewed in isolation seemed of little import, but when assembled in-toto may produce a generational shift in perception. Our review focused on two such THA events. Firstly, COC retrieval studies (1999-2001) noted habitual wear patterns on heads and peripheral wear stripes, along with femoral-neck impingement, and ceramic surfaces stained gray by metal debris. These COC data indicated THA risks included, 1) cup edge-loading (E/L) on heads producing “stripe wear”, 2) component impingement releasing metal particles resulting in 3) tissues contaminated by metal debris. A corresponding MOM impingement-debris mechanism was only perceived by Howie (2005) in a McKee-Farrar retrieval study. Our anticipation at LLUMC was that MOM retrievals would provide superior wear details to those seen on COC retrievals. We noted stripe wear in the polar zone of CoCr heads and basal stripes in the non-wear areas. The basal-polar stripe combinations were found in all MOM retrievals. Coula edulis is non-timber forest product (NTFP) used in Africa for its hazelnuts, which contain edible seeds with a demonstrated nutritional potential. However, there have been very few scientific studies of this species in the Republic of Congo. Thus, the aim of the current study was therefore to determine the fatty acid composition of the oil extracted from Coula edulis hazelnut seeds collected at random in the Republic of Congo. The oil was extracted using the Soxhlet method and its fatty acid composition was determined by gas chromatography. The extracted oil from Coula edulis hazelnut kernels is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (95.28%), particularly oleic acid (94.5%), which classifies it as an oleic oil and gives it interesting nutritional and therapeutic properties. On the other hand, saturated fatty acids (4.15%) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (0.35%) are not well represented. Its low poly-unsaturated fatty acid content makes it more stable when stored at room temperature.

Cashew tree has gradually moved from a purely ecological aspect to a socio-economic one, due to the marketing of its nuts. But production per area, estimated at between 424 and 547 kg/ha, remains low, in contrast to India (2nd largest producer) and Vietnam (3rd largest producer), whose yields range from 1000 to 1500 and 2000 to 2500 kg/ha respectively. This low yield is due to a number of factors, among which insect pests are the most damaging. Among these insects, termites are considered to be one of the main pests of cashew trees. The general objective of this study is to contribute to termite management through the use of bioinsecticides, an alternative to the use of chemicals in cashew orchards. Five (5) biological products were tested: Limocide, Carapa oil, Neem oil, Kitana and Kaskara. Among them, two products proved effective, with a mortality rate of over 50%. These were Limocide, whose LC50 was obtained in 24 h at a dose of 3.6 g/ml and 3.1 g/ml , giving a mortality rate of 57.66% ± 4.04% and 51.33 ± 2.08 respectively , and Carapa, at a dose of 4.5 g/ml, with an estimated mortality rate of 52.33% ± 1.52%. Such results have demonstrated the potential application of Limocide and Carapa biopesticides to sustainably control termites in cashew orchards of Côte d’Ivoire.

The simulation by the Monte Carlo method executed by the software PyPENELOPE proved effective to specify the particle propagation characteristics by calculating the absorption fractions, backscattering and transmission of electrons and secondary photons under the incidence of 0.5 to 20 KeV range of primary electrons. More than 99.9% of the primary electrons were transmitted in the 125 nm thick MgO/TiO2 material at 20 KeV. This occurred because several interactions took place in the transmitted primary irradiation such as characteristic, fluorescence, and bremsstrahlung produced when of the occupation of the KL3, KL2, KM3, and KM2 shell and sub-shell of titanium and magnesium which are the elements with a high atomic number in the material. The transmission particle characteristic of this material is therefore an indicator capable of improving the electrical performance and properties of the sensor.

In this paper,we ameliorate the model proposed in[13],by incorporating the influence of hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg)status of mothers on vertical *** use the improved model to fit reported HBV new infections in the Zhejiang Province of *** to predict the course of the Hepatitis B(HBV)infection in this Chinese area,and in Tokombere,located in sub-Saharan Africa(SSA).Furthermore,we apply optimal control techniques in view to re-examine the effects of the newborn vaccination,the universal vaccination and the treatment of chronic carriers in preventing the HBV *** results show that treatment slightly steps in the optimal strategy,while immunisation is an effective *** the other hand,they indicate that the control measures and immunization programs implemented in Zhejiang Province are ***,they suggest that in SSA,a package of several policies centred on birth dose vaccination should be implemented.

Autoimmune pancreatitis(AIP)is a type of immune-mediated pancreatitis subdivided into two subtypes,type 1 and type 2 ***,type 1 AIP is considered to be the pancreatic manifestation of the immunoglobulin G4(IgG4)-related ***,AIP is increasingly researched and recognized,although its diagnosis represents a challenge for several reasons:False positive ultrasound-guided cytological samples for a neoplastic process,difficult to interpret levels of IgG4,the absence of biological markers to diagnose type 2 AIP,and the challenging clinical identification of atypical ***,60%and 78%of type 1 and type 2 AIP,respectively,are retrospectively diagnosed on surgical specimens of resected pancreas for suspected *** distinguishing AIP from pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma can be challenging,obtaining a definitive diagnosis can therefore prove difficult,since endoscopic ultrasound fine-needle aspiration or biopsy of the pancreas are *** paper focuses on recent innovations in the management of AIP with regard to the use of artificial intelligence,new serum markers,and new therapeutic approaches,while it also outlines the current management recommendations.A better knowledge of AIP can reduce the recourse to surgery and avoid its overuse,although such an approach requires close collaboration between gastroenterologists,surgeons and *** knowledge on AIP and IgG4-related disease remains necessary to diagnose and manage patients.

Assessing the impact of climate change(CC)on agricultural production systems is mainly done using crop models associated with climate model *** review is one of the few,with the main objective of providing a recent compendium of CC impact studies on irrigation needs and rice yields for a better understanding and use of climate and crop *** discuss the strengths and weaknesses of climate impact studies on agricultural production systems,with a particular focus on uncertainty and sensitivity analyses of crop *** the new generation global climate models(GCMs)are more robust than previous ones,there is still a need to consider the effect of climate uncertainty on estimates when using *** GCMs cannot directly simulate the agro-climatic variables of interest for future irrigation assessment,hence the use of intelligent climate ***,sensitivity and uncertainty analyses must be applied to crop models,especially for their calibration under different *** impacts of CC on irrigation needs and rice yields vary across regions,seasons,varieties and crop ***,integrated assessments,the use of remote sensing data,climate smart tools,CO_(2)enrichment experiments,consideration of changing crop management practices and multi-scale crop modeling,seem to be the approaches to be pursued for future climate impact assessments for agricultural systems。
