Introduction: Infections represent a real public health problem aggravating the morbidity and mortality of hospitalized patients. Methods: This was a retrospective study with descriptive purposes over a period of 05 years, in the Pneumology Department of the University Hospital of Cocody. Results: The average age in our population was 42 years. We observed a male predo- minance of 64.5%, with a sex ratio of 1.8. Medical history was dominated by HIV infection (23.5%), followed by tuberculosis (15.6%). Concerning lifestyle, smoking was found in 38% of cases. Symptoms progressed chronically in 80% of cases. An infectious syndrome was found in 75% of cases. Microbial culture was positive in 42% of cases. Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae were encountered in 26.4% of cases each, followed by Echerichia coli in 10.4% of cases. Klebsiella pneumoniae in the first three years topped the list, but gradually. Pseudomonas aeruginosa maintained its leadership over the last three years. Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates expressed a resistance rate of 9.8% to ceftazidime and 8.1% to imipenem;to aztreonam (36%), ticarcillin (33.3%) and levofloxacin. These strains were susceptible to fosfomycin (100%), mero- penem (96.6%) and amikacin (96%). For isolated strains of Entero- bacteria- ceae, resistance was observed about ticarcillin (83.3%) and amoxicillin clavula- nic acid (71.2%). Streptococcaceae showed resistance to tetracycline (69.2%) and erythromycin (50%). Over the years there has been an increase in re- sistance to amoxicillin-clavulanic acid ceftriaxone. The death rate was 14%. Conclusion: The bacterial profile of infections is dominated by germs respon- sible for nosocomial infection with significant mortality.

Suspension Plasma Spraying is a complex process in which several physical mechanisms play a part. So the modeling and understanding of the interaction between a high-velocity and thermal flow and a liquid precursor phase is of major importance concerning the control and characterization of the process. The liquid droplet size distribution has a high influence on the kinetic properties of the as-sprayed nanometer particles before impacting on a target substrate. An overview of existing models is provided dealing with the penetration of the liquid phase into the thermal flame and the resulting fragmentation and vaporization of this phase before impact. The physical characteristics of the flow as well as existing Lagrangian and Eulerian modeling strategies are briefly discussed while paying attention to the physical parameters characterized and measured by numerical simulation. The potential of the various models and also their limits are intended to be highlighted. Future coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian modeling strategies are also proposed for a global and more exhaustive representation of the injection, fragmentation and dispersion part of the two-phase gas-liquid flow before particle impact on the substrate.

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) has a diversity that is equal to the complexity of its management. The group M (Major) is the dominant group in Sub-Saharan Africa and its distribution is very heterogeneous;the diversity of the virus is more heterogeneous in this region than elsewhere in the world which follows a complex and specific algorithm because of geographical positions and countries. This distribution is very dynamic, evolving and unpredictable. This review aimed to expose the specifics of the HIV Type 1 epidemic in Central Africa, in terms of the different molecular variants of HIV published for the region compared to the geographic location. Both Type 1 and Type 2 of HIV are prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa due to distinct geographical contexts. HIV-2 is mainly documented in West and Central Africa, particularly in Cameroon, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, Senegal, Ivory Coast and Burkina-Faso however HIV-1 infection is widely distributed across the continent. The HIV-1 epidemic in Sub-Saharan Africa is dominated by the Group M. The different subtypes respect a certain geographical distribution across the continent. West Africa is dominated by subtype A, East and South Africa are dominated by subtype C, while Central Africa is dominated by strains A, C, D, F, H, J, CRF01-AE and CRF02-AG. This review is the first to present de molecular diversity of HIV-1 in metropolitan cities in all central African countries. The Circulating Recombinant Form (CRF02_AG) and subtypes A and G are present in all Central African countries and are also the most commonly encountered;followed by the subtypes D, F, G, C, B, J, K and several Circulating Recombinant Forms that are not represented in all Central African countries.

Purpose: Although controversial, assessment of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expression is required for the approved indications of Cetuximab in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). With the objective of improving patient selection, “ERBITUX-OUEST” study aimed at analyzing EGFR status in a large cohort of mCRC patients who received cetuximab without preliminary EGFR screening, and assessing the correlation between EGFR status and response to treatment retrospectively. Patients and methods: 332 patients treated with Irinotecan Cetuximab based regimen after progression on irinotecan or oxaliplatin therapy were included. EGFR status was assessed using three available immunohistochemistry (IHC) tests and in situ hybridization in case of negativity. Clinical outcomes of EGFR-positive and EGFR-non-detected (or considered as negative with at least one test) patients were compared. Results: Of the 332 samples centrally screened, 194 were classified as full-positive (i.e., EGFR-positive for all three tests), 86 as full-negative, and 52 as discordant. One third of the 131 negative samples with FDA approved test should be reclassified as positive with at least one of the two others tests. Regarding results from FDA approved test only, neither objective response rate (ORR), progression-free survival (PFS) nor overall survival (OS) differed significantly between EGFR-negative and EGFR-positive patients (P = 0.788, 0.326 and 0.888, respectively). Similarly, comparison of full-negative to other groups did not show any significant difference in terms of ORR (P = 0.507), PFS (P = 0.222) or OS (P = 0.686). Conclusion: These data strongly argue against mCRC patients selection for Cetuximab treatment based on EGFR expression as measured by currently available IHC technics.

Objective:The relationship between mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA)polymorphisms and abnormalities in sperm quality has been the subject of several studies,with the objective of improving the treatment of male *** study,which contributes to the identification of genetic markers of sperm abnormalities,was conducted to study mtDNA mutations in the asthenozoospermia ***:This case-control study included 30 patients with asthenozoospermia and 28 with normospermia after spermogram and spermocytogram *** the extraction of total DNA from the spermatozoa of 58 ejaculates from these individuals using the phenol-chloroform method,the amplification of genes of interest in mtDNA using specific primers was performed by conventional polymerase chain reaction,and sequencing was used to detect ***:Male patients with asthenozoospermia in the tertiary sector had significantly more mutant-than wild-type(P=0.0005)MT-CO II ***,for the same gene,males with asthenozoospermia and primary infertility had significantly more mutants than the wild-type(P=0.001).Sequencing revealed 29 mutations that were observed only with asthenozoospermia,which could be the basis for low sperm ***:This study identified several mutations in mtDNA genes that could be considered genetic markers of asthenozoospermia if confirmed in a deeper study.

Introduction: The sixth month appointment (M6) is crucial because at the start of the ART course, it is an indicator of the prognosis of the evolution of care and decision-making on the continuity of treatment. Objective: The objective of this study is therefore to present the profile of People Living with HIV under treatment with Dolutegravir 6 months after starting ART in Kinshasa. Methods: The present study is a cross-sectional view at M6 of a prospective cohort to determine the profile of People Living with HIV (PLHIV) after 6 months of ARV Treatment (ART) in Kinshasa, DRC. During the M6 appointment, from April to August 2022, a sample of 5 ml of blood was taken for the various analyzes from all HIV patients included. The collection of sociodemographic data as well as biological and clinical data was carried out under the same conditions as at inclusion. The parameters recorded during M6 were: age, sex, and religion, level of study, marital status, profession, socio-economic level, height, weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), clinical profile, opportunistic infections as well as biochemical and molecular assessment. Results: In M6, 62 patients were registered including 38 women (61.3%), thus giving a sex ratio of 1.58 in favor of women. Fifty-seven (57) patients did not respond to the appointment, representing a loss rate of 47.89%. The most common age group is between 36 and 45 years old with 16 patients (26.7%). The mean age was 42.4 ± 13.3 years. The mean weight was 60.5 ± 15.4 kg with a mean BMI of 22.6 ± 5.8 kg/m2. Thirty-four (34) patients (61.82%) were in Clinical Stage 3. Thirty-six (36) patients (67.92%) had a normal clinical condition. The most common opportunistic infections among patients in M6 were: skin pruritus (25.8%), dermatitis (22.6%) and rash (21%). Background: For several decades, the introduction of AntiRetrovirals (ARVs) has improved the symptomatology of People Living with HIV (PLHIV), a spectacular reduction in morbidity and mortality, an improvement in life expectancy and quality of life of PLHIV. Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the profile of PLHIV initiating AntiRetroViral Treatment (ART) in the era of Dolutegravir in Kinshasa. Methods: Cross-section of a prospective cohort to determine the profile of PLHIV initiating ART in Kinshasa. The inclusions were from October 04, 2021 to February 15, 2022. Confirmation of the diagnosis was carried out by Nested PCR. The inclusion criteria were: being at least 18 years old, confirmed HIV positive, naïve to ART, consenting and having signed an informed consent. The parameters of interest followed for the present study were: age, sex, religion, level of study, marital status, occupation, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), the clinical profile, the opportunistic infections as well as the para-clinical assessment (biochemistry and molecular biology). Results: 67 (56.3%) women and 52 (43.7%) men were included, thus 119 patients, all confirmed positive for HIV by Nested PCR on the gag, pol and env regions. The average age of the patients included is 39.87 ± 12.36 years and the most represented age group is that of 36 to 45 years with 37 patients (31.9%). The average height was 1.66 ± 0.08 meters, with an average weight of 56.41 ± 13.30 kg, giving an average Body Mass Index (BMI) of 21.54 ± 5.17 kg/m2. The majority of patients were married (46.1%), of Protestant religion (70.7%), with secondary education (66.7%), and working in the informal sector (29.4%). 49 patients (41.5%) were in clinical stage 3 and 55 patients (47.0%) had a normal clinical status. Malaria (45.4%) and tuberculosis (29.4%) were the most common Opportunistic Infections. The mean values of the patients’ assessed biochemical parameters were within the ranges. The
