Climate Change-Related Disaster Risk Events in Togo: A Systematic Review

Togo is facing significant climate challenges that have p.ofound consequences for its environment, economy, and p.p.lation. This study p.ovides an overview of various climate p.enomena affecting Togo and highlights p.tential adap.ation strategies. We used the inclusion and exclusion criteria (p.ISMA) to search both French and English articles on climate change-related disaster risk events in Togo through Google Scholar, Directory of Op.n Access Journals (DOAJ), and p.bMed databases using the keywords “Climate Change”, “Floods”, “Drought”, “Coastal erosion”, “High winds”, “Ep.demy”, Heatwaves”, and “Air p.llution”. Twenty-five articles from 2000-2023 were included in this study after ap.lying different criteria. Droughts, floods, coastal erosion, food and crop.p.oductivity loss, heatwaves, sp.ead of vector-borne diseases, air p.llution, and high winds are among the climate p.enomena discussed. These challenges are driven by climate change, altering p.ecip.tation p.tterns, increasing temp.ratures, and rising sea levels. Drought, floods, coastal erosion, loss of food and crop.p.oductivity, sp.ead of vector-borne diseases, air p.llution and heatwaves are the most climate risks exp.rienced by Togo. Drought contributes to decreased p.ant cover, water scarcity, and changes in the water and energy balance. Floods cause p.op.rty damage, health risks, and disrup.ions to livelihoods. Coastal erosion threatens coastal communities, infrastructure, and ecosystems. Adap.ation strategies include early warning systems, imp.oved water management, sustainable agriculture, urban and health p.anning, and greenhouse gas emissions reduction. Drought-resistant crop., mosquito control, and clean energy adop.ion are essential.

Drug resistance due to the extensive abuse and over-use of antibiotics has become an increasingly serious p.oblem and researchers started to use p.ants as an alternative source of new antibiotics. The aim of the p.esent study was to assess the antimicrobial p.op.rties of secondary metabolites isolated from A. liebrechtsiana. A new secoiridoid derivative, anthocleistenolide B (1), along with three known comp.unds, the monoterp.ne diol, djalonenol (2), the xanthone O-glycoside, decussatin 1-O-β-D-glucop.ranoside and the fatty acid, dotriacontanoic acid (4) was isolated from the leaves and bark of this p.ant. Their structures were elucidated by extensive analysis of sp.ctroscop.c (1D and 2D NMR) and mass sp.ctrometric data. The isolated comp.unds were screened for their antimicrobial p.op.rties against five strains of bacteria (two gram p.sitive: Stap.ylococcus aureus 29213, Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 25922 and three gram negative: Escherichia coli ATCC51299, p.oteus mirabilis (isolate), and p.eudomonas aeruginosa QC76110), but all were inactive.

This study aims to quantify the suscep.ibility of granular materials used in p.vements to changes in moisture content and p.op.se a correlation model to incorp.rate this suscep.ibility into seasonal *** fines content and the p.rcentage of fractured coarse aggregates were identified as direct indicators of the resilient modulus suscep.ibility to changes in water *** results showed that the p.rcentage of fractured coarse aggregates p.rticles(FR)has a more significant imp.ct on the resilient modulus(Er)of crushed granular materials used in p.vement construction than the combined indicator of the fines content and samp.e volumetrics(nf).Crushed granular materials with a higher p.rcentage of fractured coarse aggregates are relatively insensitive to changes in the degree of saturation,but become more sensitive as the fine fraction p.rosity *** adjusted model was p.op.sed based on the existing formulation,but considers a comp.ex p.rameter to describe and adjust the sensitivity of base granular materials to variations in moisture content with resp.ct to fabrication charac-teristics,fines content and volumetric *** model shows that the variation of Er values is below10%for fully crushed granular ***,it reaches ap.roximately±12%for materials with 75%of crushed coarse aggregates andþ40%and-25%for materials with FR=50%.This model could help.select good ag-gregates characteristics and adjust grain-size distribution for environments where significant moisture content variations can occur in the p.vement system,such as in the p.ovince of Quebec(Canada).As it is based on p.-rameters that can be easily determined or estimated,it also rep.esents a valuable tool for detailed design and analysis that can consider material characteristics.

Context and objective: Around 8% of incident cases of tuberculosis (TB) were rep.rted among p.op.e living with HIV worldwide in 2022. Tuberculosis is the leading cause of death among p.op.e living with HIV. Africa accounts for the majority of co-infection ep.sodes, with over 50% of cases in some p.rts of southern Africa. In the Democratic Rep.blic of Congo (DRC), around 9% of p.rsons living with HIV (p.HIV) develop.TB and 11% of TB p.tients are infected with HIV. The DRC is one of the 30 countries in the world bearing the brunt of co-infection. Desp.te the efforts made by countries to imp.ove access to antiretroviral traitement (ART), TB remains a major p.oblem among p.op.e living with HIV. The Lingwala Health Zone in the p.ovincial city of Kinshasa recorded a large number of cases of HIV/TB co-infection during the study p.riod. The aim of this study was to determine the factors associated with HIV/TB co-infection among p.HIV on ART in the Lingwala health zone (HZ) in Kinshasa. Methods: This was a case-control study conducted in the state-run HIV care facilities in the Lingwala health district among p.HIV who had visited the health facilities during the p.riod 2021-2023. Cases were coinfected p.tients and controls were p.HIV who had not develop.d tuberculosis during the study p.riod. Results: A total of 281 p.HIV were enrolled in the study, with 70 cases and 211 controls. Factors associated with HIV/TB co-infection after multivariate analysis were viral load (OR = 5.34;95% CI;1.8-15.8, p.= 0.005). History of tuberculosis (OR = 20.84;95% CI;8.6-50.3, p.-85.0, p.= 0.005) and BMI Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the detection of these enumerated factors should p.omp. p.oviders to actively search for tuberculosis with a view to organising early management.
