Nitinol Stenting in Post-Traumatic Pseudo-Aneurysm of.Internal Carotid Artery

Background: A pseudoaneurysm of.the internal carotid artery (ICA) at its cervicl part, is a rare and of.en lethal com-plication af.er cervical trauma. The treatment of.choice is anticoagulation. Patients with a contraindication f.r anticoagulation or those who do not improve with standard treatment, warrant either a surgical repair or stent *** placement posses both short and long term risks such as immediate ischemic events, in-stent stenosis and stent breakage, thus the choice of.stent type is critical. Advances in stent technology have made cervical stent placement a viable option. We report our experience with the LEO + (Balt Extrusion, Montmorency, f.ance) nitinol f.exible self.expanding stent f.r post-traumatic ICA aneurysms. Methods: 5 patients suf.ering a post-traumatic cervical ICA pseudo-aneurysms ref.actory to standard treatment were treated with nitinol braided f.exible self.expanding stent. This stent has a shape memory and superelasticity virtues making it suitable. Diagnosis was made with CT angiography and conf.rmed by catheter angiography. All procedures were pref.rmed under local anesthesia. Time between trauma and treatment ranged six days to over f.ve years. f.llow-up was perf.rmed by CT angiography or conventional angiography. Results: f.ve patients, having eight aneurysms were treated using 12 stents. In all cases, appropriate stent placement was achieved. No immediate or late complications, as well as no neurological sequele reported at 6 months. Radiological f.llow-up exams demonstrated complete pseudoaneurysm closure. Conclusion: Stent placement can be a saf. and def.nitive treatment option f.r patients to conventional medical treatment.

Which Geopolitics f.r the European Union？ The EU＇s Eastern Partnership

This article discusses whether the European Union （EU） has engaged in a geopolitical approach when it comes to its Eastern neighbors, now included in the EU＇s Eastern Partnership. The paper concludes that the EU has not engaged in a geopolitical approach when it comes to its policies towards its Eastern neighbors. Instead, it has approached them through the prisms of.inter-connectedness and interdependency. The main reason f.r that rejection of.geopolitical approach lies in the role that the EU has assigned to itself.as an international actor, i.e. as a civilian and normative power. f.nally, the use of.civilian instruments would avoid the EU f.lling into a geopolitical trap that would lead to a zero sum game situation f.r its Eastern neighours in their relationships with Russia.

A 3D Numerical Study of.LO_2/GH_2 Supercritical Combustion in the ONERA-Mascotte Test-rig Conf.guration

Cryogenic propellants LOx/H2 are used at very high pressure in rocket engine combustion. The description of.the combustion process in such application is very complex due essentially to the supercritical regime. Ideal gas law becomes invalid. In order to try to capture the average characteristics of.this combustion process, numerical computations are perf.rmed using a model based on a one-phase multi-component approach. Such work requires f.uid properties and a correct def.nition of.the mixture behavior generally described by cubic equations of.state with appropriated thermodynamic relations validated against the NIST data. In this study we consider an alternative way to get the ef.ect of.real gas by testing the volume-weighted-mixing-law with association of.the component transport properties using directly the NIST library data f.tting including the supercritical regime range. The numerical simulations are carried out using 3D RANS approach associated with two tested turbulence models, the standard k-Epsilon model and the realizable k-Epsilon one. The combustion model is also associated with two chemical reaction mechanisms. The f.rst one is a one-step generic chemical reaction and the second one is a two-step chemical reaction. The obtained results like temperature prof.les, recirculation zones, visible f.ame lengths and distributions of.OH species are discussed.

Abortion is one of.the leading causes of.maternal death in Cameroon, despite numerous policies and strategies put in place to reduce it by *** study aims to describe the epidemiologic aspects of.abortions within hospitals in the city of.Yaoundé in 2023. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study with prospective data collection in the maternity wards of.the Yaoundé Gynaeco-Obstetric and Paediatric Hospital, and the Yaoundé Central Hospital f.r 7 months, f.om the 1st of.November 2022 to the 31st of.May 2023. The variables studied were demographic and clinical characteristics, means of.recourse and post-abortion contraception. The f.equency of.abortions was calculated as the ratio of.the number of.abortions to the number of.deliveries. The calculation of.numbers and f.equencies was used to describe the study population, and to highlight the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of.the patients recruited. Quantitative variables were expressed as mean ± standard deviation. Data were collected numerically and classif.ed according to type, then analyzed using Epi-inf. version 7.2 sof.ware. Microsof. Of.ice Excel 2013 was used to produce f.gures and tables. Results: During the study period, 169 patients were selected out of.1882 patients who had consulted f.r gynaecological emergencies;but only 164 of.them accepted to participate. The f.equency of.abortions was 9.6% (169/1882). The age group of.25 to 29 years was the most represented, with 29.3% (48/164). They were mainly single 76.2% (125/164), and housewives 33.5% (55/164). The notion of.previous abortion was f.und in 30.5% (50/164) of.them. Approximately 19.5% of.patients (32/164) reported to have conceived while using contraception, 56.2% of.whom (18/32) used male condoms. At the time of.admission to the emergency unit, the predominant symptom was bleeding in 70.7% of.cases. The abortions were mainly spontaneous, in 75% of.cases (123/164). Phase coexistence properties of.liquid mercury:a simulation study

The thermophysical properties of.expanded liquid mercury have been investigated along the liquid-vapor coexistence curve by using Monte Carlo and Molecular Dynamic simulations. f.r the purpose, an empirical state dependent interatomic potential f.r the region of.dense metallic liquid is used, while the state dependence is not necessary near the clif.cal point. In order to test the validity of.this potential, we determine the surf.ce layering and the sound velocity, two properties very sensitive to the choice of.the potential. Our results are in quite good agreement with other theoretical results and to the experimental data available in the literature.

What is artif.cial meat and what does it mean f.r the f.ture of.the meat industry?

The meat industry cannot respond to increases in demand by ever increasing resource use. The industry must f.nd solutions to issues regarding animal welf.re, health and sustainability and will have to do so in the f.ce of.competition f.om emerging non-traditional meat and protein products in an increasingly complex regulatory environment. These novel meat and protein products, otherwise known as ‘artif.cial meat＇ are utilising ground breaking technologies designed to meet the issues f.cing the conventional meat industry. These artif.cial meats, in vitro or cultured meat and meat f.om genetically modif.ed organisms have no real capacity to compete with conventional meat production in the present environment. However, meat replacements manuf.ctured f.om plant proteins and mycoproteins are currently the biggest competitors and are gaining a small percentage of.the market. Manuf.ctured meats may push conventional meat into the premium end of.the market, and supply the bulk, cheap end of.the market if.conventional meat products become more expensive and the palatability and versatility of.manuf.ctured meats improve. In time the technology f.r other artif.cial meats such as meat f.om genetic modif.ed organisms or cultured meat may become suf.iciently developed f.r these products to enter the market with no complexity of.the competition between meat products. Conventional meat producers can assimilate agroecology ecology concepts in order to develop sustainable animal production systems. The conventional meat industry can also benef.t f.om assimilating biotechnologies such as cloning and genetic modif.cation technologies, using the technology to adapt to the changing environment and respond to the increasing competition f.om artif.cial meats. Although it will depend at least partly on the evolution of.conventional meat production, the f.ture of.artif.cial meat produced f.om stem cells appears uncertain at this time.

This article presents the development and validation of.the Superquadric Discrete Element Method(SuperDEM)f.r non-spherical particle simulation using a superquadric particle method in open-source Cf. suite Mf.X.A superquadric particle-particle contact algorithm with accelerating and stabilizing strategy was developed.A superquadric particle-arbitrary wall contact algorithm was developed,which enables the simulation in complex *** solver was validated by comparing with experimental data generated in this study or available in the *** include cylinder contacting with a wall,static packing of.M&M chocolate candies in a cylindrical container,static packing of.cylinders in a cylindrical container,dynamic angle of.repose of.cylinders in a rotating drum,and discharging of.chocolate candies f.om a ***,MPI parallelization of.the solver was implemented and the parallel perf.rmance of.the solver using MPI was assessed through large-scale simulations of.1 million,10 million,and 100 million particles on up to 6800 cores,which demonstrates that the SuperDEM solver has great potential f.r industrial-scale systems simulation.

Microbial starch-binding domains (SBD) and granule-bound starch synthase I (GBSSI) are proteins which are accumulated in potato starch granules. The ef.iciency of.SBD and GBSSI f.r targeting active lucif.rase reporter proteins to granules during starch biosynthesis was compared. GBSSI or SBD sequences were f.sed to the N- or C-terminus of.the lucif.rase (LUC) gene, via an artif.cial Pro-Thr encoding linker sequence. The genes were introduced into an amylose-f.ee (amf. potato mutant. It appeared that SBD was superior to GBSSI as a targeting sequence, mainly because the lucif.rase retained higher activity in the SBD-containing f.sion proteins than in the GBSSI-containing ones.
