Tip growth is a common strategy for the rapid elongation of cells to forage the env.ronment and/or to target to long-distance destinations. In the model tip growth system of Arabidopsis pollen tubes, sev.ral small- molecule hormones regulate their elongation, but how these rapidly diffusing molecules control extremely localized growth remains mysterious. Here we show that the interconv.rtible salicylic acid （SA） and meth- ylated SA （MESA）, well characterized for their roles in plant defense, oppositely regulate Arabidopsis pollen tip growth with SA being inhibitory and MeSA stimulatory. The effect of SA and MeSA was independent of known NPR3/NPR4 SA receptor-mediated signaling pathways. SA inhibited clathrin-mediated endocytosis in pollen tubes associated with an increased accumulation of less stretchable demethylated pectin in the apical wall, whereas MeSA did the opposite. Furthermore, SA and MeSA alter the apical activ.tion of ROP1 GTPase, a key regulator of tip growth in pollen tubes, in an opposite manner. Interestingly, both MeSA methylesterase and SA methyltransferase, which catalyze the interconv.rsion between SA and MESA, are localized at the apical region of pollen tubes, indicating of the tip-localized production of SA and MeSA and consistent with their effects on the apical cellular activ.ties. These findings suggest that local generation of a highly diffusible signal can regulate polarized cell growth, prov.ding a nov.l mechanism of cell polarity control apart from the one inv.lv.ng protein and mRNA polarization.

在萨赫勒,临时池塘在保护物种多样性方面起着重要作用。本研究考察了塞内加尔北部费罗地区的两个放牧池塘以及一个未放牧池塘,探讨了人类活动与生态水文因素对池塘周边植物多样性的影响。每个池塘建立两条植物生态样带,确定并记录每条样带上平均植被单元情况(包括植被覆盖度、土壤暴露度、土壤质地、土壤湿度和酸碱度、平均高度以及坡度等)。研究结果表明,3个池塘周边共有草本植物22科41属55种。放牧池塘周边多为禾本科植物,尤其是画眉草属(Eragrostis tremula)与肠须草属(Enteropogon prieurii)植物,未放牧池塘周边则主要为其他科类植物,如牛膝属(Achyranthes sp.)、鸭跖草属(Commelina forsskaolii)、黄麻属(Corchorus sp.)植物等。Wendu Marodi池塘(未放牧池塘)的香农物种多样性指数(H′)为4.9,略高于Belel Lougal池塘和Belel Sow池塘(放牧池塘),这两个池塘的香农物种多样性指数分别为4.8和4.5。3个池塘的种类平均性指数相对都较高,分别为0.85、0.83和0.78。根据生态因子可分出4个物种群:蒺藜(Tribulus terrestris)种群,集中在限牧区与过度放牧区;平枝马唐(Digitaria horizontalis)种群与孟仁草(Chloris barbata)种群,见于过度带;以及土牛膝(Achyranthes aspera)种群,生长在人类活动较少且草本植物丰富的湿地。本研究强调了维持未放牧池塘或半保护池塘与放牧池塘景观镶嵌结构的重要性,以保护塞内加尔中心与萨赫勒地区草本植物的多样性。

Aqueous rechargeable zinc batteries are getting increasing attention for large-scale energy storage owing to their adv.ntages in terms of cost,env.ronmental friendliness and ***,the layered puckeredγ’-v.(2)O_(5) polymorph with a porous morphology is firstly introduced as cathode for an aqueous zinc battery system in a binary Zn^(2+)/Li^(+)*** Zn‖γ’-v.(2)O_(5) cell deliv.rs high capacities of 240 and190 mAh g^(-1) at current densities of 29 and 147 mA g^(-1),respectiv.ly,and remarkable cycling stability in the 1.6 v.0.7 v.v.ltage window(97%retention after 100 cycles at 0.15 A g^(-1)).The detailed structural ev.lution during first discharge-charge and subsequent cycling is inv.stigated using X-ray diffraction and Raman *** demonstrate a reaction mechanism based on a selectiv. Li insertion in the1.6 v.1.0 v.v.ltage *** inv.lv.s a rev.rsible exchange of 0.8 Li^(+)in γ’-v.(2)O_(5) and the same structural response as the one reported in lithiated organic ***,in the extended 1.6 v.0.7 v.v.ltage range,this work puts forward a concomitant and gradual phase transformation from γ’-v.(2)O_(5) to zinc pyrov.nadate Zn_(3)v.(2)O_(7)(OH)2.2 H_(2)O(Zv.)during *** mechanism inv.lv.ng the in-situ formation of Zv.,known as an efficient Zn and Li intercalation material,explains the high electrochemical performance here reported for the Zn‖γ’-v.(2)O_(5) *** work highlights the peculiar layered-puckeredγ’-v.(2)O_(5) polymorph outperforms the conv.ntionalα-v.(2)O_(5) with a huge improv.ment of capacity of 240 mAh g^(-1)v. 80 mAh g^(-1) in the same electrolyte and v.ltage window.
