A manual acupuncture treatment attenuates common cold and its symptoms: a case series report from South Korea

OBjeCTIVE: To investigate beneficial effects of manual acupuncture on common cold periods and its symptoms depended on the difference onset time of common cold, within 36 h or over than that. To prove effects of manual acupuncture on common cold, a retrospective chart review was ***: Chart data for patients with commoncold who were treated with only manual acupuncture with fulfilling Jackson scales and satisfaction at the end of each treatment were collected via multi-centers of Oriental hospitals,Oriental medicine clinics and covalent hospital in South Korea. Totally 187 patients were divided into two groups, Group Ⅰ(115 patients, within 36 h)and Group Ⅱ(72 patients, onset time of cold over than 36 h). Finally 120 patients were observed until entire resolution of cold ***: GroupⅠ showed significant decreases themediandurationsofcompletelyrecovery(3 days;95% CI 3.0-4.0) as compared with Group Ⅱ(6 days;95% CI 4.0-7.0, P < 0.001). The manual acupuncture beneficially worked for reduction rate of common cold symptoms by 50% after initial treatment,decreased cold symptoms, and reduced cold ***: Manual acupuncture beneficially affected common cold and its *** it is more susceptibility on the early time of onset cold.

Effects of honing treatment on AIP-TiN and TiAlN coated end-mill for high speed machining

The objective of this work is to compare the tool performance of TiN and TiA1N coated carbides end-mills deposited by an arc ion plating （ALP） method, using honing treatment to polish the cutting edge surface sleekly. The curve of surface roughness versus honing time showed a rapid improvement initially and thereafter became steady, manifesting a saturation effect. The optimal honing time related to surface roughness was determined to be approximately 20 s. As the surface roughness increased, the critical loads reduced. At an average surface roughness （Ra） of 0.028 p.m, the highest critical loads of TiN and TiAlN coating layers were 98 and 114 N, respectively. Tool performances of uncoated and coated tools were conducted under high speed machining （HSM） of AISI D2 cold-worked die steel （62 HRC）. Consequently, the TiAlN coated end-mill using honing treatment showed excellent tool life under HSM conditions.

CFRP （carbon fiber reinforced plastics） composite materials have wide applicability because of their inherent design flexibility and improved material properties. However, impacted composite structures have 50%-75% less strength than undamaged structures. In this work, a CFRP composite material was nondestructively characterized in order to ensure product quality and structural integrity of CFRP and one-sided pitch-catch technique was developed to measure impacted-damaged area by using an automated-data acquisition system in an immersion tank. A pitch-catch signal was found to be more sensitive than normal incidence backwall echo of longitudinal wave under defect conditions in the composite.

Evaluation of model fidelity for solar analysis in the context of distributed PV integration at urban scale

This paper examines the level of model fidelity required to support design phases in the urban solar planning *** two modelling features crucial to the fidelity of the photovoltaic(PV)yield prediction on urban surfaces are(1)a level of fidelity for modelling urban shading and solar reflection and(2)a level of fidelity for modelling PV system *** paper compares three different models for predicting urban shading and reflection and two different PV models for predicting PV system *** relevance of the model fidelities is investigated through a case study of an urban area in Wuhan,China under three decision-making contexts:setting a solar target,place-making,and economic assessment for urban-scale distributed PV *** for the decision-makings are generated using the selected models through computational simulation under the same annual weather *** results show that the relatively less accurate canyon-based method tends to overpredict with 57 buildings identified as suitable for PV installation for walls in the studied urban area;the more accurate vector-based model predicts only 14 suitable *** results predicted with additional consideration of dynamic PV system operation exhibit differences from those predicted by the static PV system model,with a difference of roughly 13 buildings on average within each payback-time *** differences are noticeable but can be regarded as incremental for urban-scale economic assessment compared with the significant difference due to the fidelity level of modelling urban shading and reflection.

Reactive wetting phenomena of MgO-C refractories in contact with CaO-SiO_2 slag

Wetting phenomena between MgO C and CaO SiO2 slags were investigated by varying carbon content.A sessile drop technique was adopted to study the wetting phenomena in conjunction with a high speed camera for the observation of intrinsic wetting *** results show that the high content of SiO2 and the presence of Al2O3 in slags enhance the diffusion of Mg2+,leading to the promotion of reactive *** carbon in MgO C refractory impedes the penetration of slags by repelling the slag and slowing the diffusion of Mg2+.This accounts for the non-wetting behavior of the slag on MgO C refractory with 17% (mass fraction) carbon similar to that of graphite.

How the physical inactivity is affected by social-, economic- and physical-environmental factors: an exploratory study using the machine learning approach

Snowstorm over the Southwestern Coast of the Korean Peninsula Associated with the Development of Mesocyclone over the Yellow Sea

This study investigates the characteristics of a heavy snowfall event over the southwestern part of the Korean Peninsula on 4 December 2005. The snowstorm was a type of mesoscale maritime cyclone which resulted from barotropic instability, and diabatic heating from the warm ocean in continental polar air masses. Based on surface observations, radiosonde soundings, MTSAT-1R satellite data and the 10-km grid RDAPS （Regional Assimilation and Prediction System based on the PSU/NCAR MM5） data, the evolution of the mesocyclone is explained by the following dynamics; （1） In the initial stage, the primary role in the cyclogenesis process of the mesocyclone is a barotropic instability in the horizontal shear zone. （2） In the developing stage, the mesocyclone moves and deepens into a baroclinic zone corresponding to the surface heating and moistening. （3） In the mature stage, it is found that the mesocyclone is intensified by the destabilization caused by enhanced low-level heating and condensation, the moisture flux convergence, and the interaction between upper and lower-level potential vorticity anomalies. We suggest that a checklist with stepwise indicators responsible for development be prepared for the forecasting of heavy snowfall over the southwestern part of the Korean Peninsula.

Optimal treatment strategy for Helicobacter pylori:Era of antibiotic resistance

Standard triple therapy, consisting of a proton pump inhibitor, plus amoxicillin and clarithromycin, has been the most commonly used first-line treatment regimen for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication for many years worldwide. However, as a result of increased resistance to antibiotics, H. pylori eradication rates with use of standard triple therapy have been declining and recently reached sing polymerase chain reaction would be a possible alternative to administration of “tailored treatment” in the era of increasing prevalence of antimicrobial resistance.
