Evaluation of the viability of nanoparticles in drilling fluids as additive for fluid loss and wellbore stability

Wellbore instability is an issue that,if left untreated,can cause wells to collapse,resulting in human,environmental,equipment,and revenue *** fluids have been used to enhance the drilling process by lubricating and cooling the drill bit,eliminating cuttings,and most importantly,by improving the stability of the well by preventing fluid ***,there has been an increase in operational demands and challenges that call for drilling fluids to be more effective,economical,sustainable,and environmentally *** shales that have infinitesimally small pores,nanoparticle additives in drilling fluids can be crucial in providing the properties that are necessary to prevent fluid loss and provide wellbore stability while meeting the operational demands of the present ***,this paper examines the use of nanoparticle additives including copper(Ⅱ)oxide(CuO),magnesium oxide(mgO),and aluminum oxide(Al_(2)O_(3))where they are tested under three conditions using the permeable plugging tester(PPT),high-temperature high-pressure(HTHP)fluid loss apparatus,and API low-temperature e low-pressure(LTLP)fluid loss apparatus under concentrations of 0.03%and 0.10%.Finally,based on the results,each nanoparticle sample(particle sizes between one and 100 nm)performed well in contributing to the aim of this *** is the most effective inhibitor across all concentrations and under the three different *** contributed to reducing the fluid loss from 37.6 mL to 18.2 and 13.2 mL,which is between 52%and 65%of fluid *** mgO,it contributed to fluid loss reduction to 23.8 mL and 15 mL,which translated to 37%e60%of fluid loss *** use of Al_(2)O_(3) nanoparticles resulted in a fluid loss reduction to 33.6 mL and 17.8 mL,reducing the fluid loss up to 11%,at HTHP and up to 53%at *** CuO and mgO,Al_(2)O_(3) was less effective under HTHP conditions when compared to LTLP ***_(2)O_(3) did not suffer as a significant diminishing

Increasing global energy consumption has become an urgent problem as natural energy sources such as oil,gas,and uranium are rapidly running *** into renewable energy sources such as solar energy is being pursued to counter *** energy is one of the most promising renewable energy sources,as it has the potential to meet the world’s energy needs *** study aims to develop and evaluate artificial intelligence(AI)models for predicting hourly global *** hyperparameters were optimized using the Broyden-FletcherGoldfarb-Shanno(BFGS)quasi-Newton training algorithm and STATISTICA *** from two stations in Algeria with different climatic zones were used to develop the *** error measurements were used to determine the accuracy of the prediction models,including the correlation coefficient,the mean absolute error,and the root mean square error(RmSE).The optimal support vector machine(SVm)model showed exceptional efficiency during the training phase,with a high correlation coefficient(R=0.99)and a low mean absolute error(mAE=26.5741 Wh/m^(2)),as well as an RmSE of 38.7045 Wh/m^(2) across all ***,this study highlights the importance of accurate prediction models in the renewable energy,which can contribute to better energy management and planning.

Improving Crude Oil Flow Using Graphene Flakes under an Applied Electric Field

Graphene flakes(GF)have been prepared and assessed as a material for improving flow in oil pipelines under the effect of an electric *** particular,different amounts of GFs have been considered in order to determine the optimal flow *** GFs were prepared from graphite foam,derived from the dehydration of sugar with a particle size of 500-600μm,which was dispersed in ethanol and exfoliated in a ball mill under a shear *** 15 h of exfoliation,sonication,and subsequent high-speed centrifugation at 3000 rpm,irregular-shaped GFs of 50-140 nm were produced and characterized using scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffractometry,atomic force microscopy,and Raman *** prepared graphene sheets have been found to display excellent morphology and good graphitic *** on flow improvement were conducted using the central composite rotatable design method for three parameters:stimulation time(15,30,45,and 60 s),applied voltage(150,170,200,and 220 V),and concentration of the GFs(0,100,200,and 400 mg/L).The optimal conditions for improved crude oil flow were then determined using the STATISTICA and WinQSB software *** results have confirmed the effectiveness of the use of the prepared GFs as a flow improver for crude oil,where the flow improvement is essentially a result of a reduction in viscosity and suppression of friction in the crude oil system.

The mechanical properties and structures of fish scales have generated considerable research interest,however,comparative studies for different fish scales from difl^rent water regions have not been *** this paper,the surface morphologies,hierarchical structures and mechanical properties of four kinds of fish scales collected from freshwater,shallow sea,and deep sea in New Zealand are *** results indicate that the surface morphologies of those fish scales are similar at ventro-lateral,dorso-lateral and anterior locations,and the hierarchical structures of those fish scales all consist of two layers:a bone layer and a collagen layer composed of collagen ***,the spiral angles of the collagen lamellaes of different scales are *** largest are mugil cephalus scales,while the smallest are Cyprinus carpio *** the mechanical behaviors of those fish scales,the tensile strength of Carassius auratus scales is the largest,but the ductility is the *** sieboldii scales have the best ***,the relationship between hierarchical structures and mechanical properties of fish scales is *** is found that the spiral angles of the collagen lamellaes and bond/collagen thickness ratio both have a great influence on the mechanical properties of fish scales.

Background: Deep sternal wound infection (DSWI), or mediastinitis, is a devastating complication of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). This prospective study aimed to assess our management of DSWI in view of the published literature. methods: Over 2-years (ending in January 2016), 29 patients (20 males) developed DSWI amongst 520 patients who underwent standard CABG surgeries (5.6%). Pre-, intra- and postoperative variables were documented. Whenever possible, the infections were culture-verified. Besides antibiotics, patients received one or more of the following therapies: drainage, debridement, closed irrigation, sternal re-wiring, vacuum-assisted closure (VAC), and bone resection. Results: the male to female ratio was 2.2:1. mean age was 58.1 ± 7.3 years. The mean body mass index (BmI) was 27.9 ± 3.4 kg/m2. There were 18, 16 and 11 patients with diabetes mellitus (Dm), hypertension and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) respectively. Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) was utilized in 26 (89.7%) patients with a mean time of 117.5 ± 23.3 minutes. most surgeries (n = 21, 72.4%) lasted 5 - 6 hrs. According to Pairolero classification, there were 3 (10.3%) Type I, 22 (75.9%) Type II and 4 (13.8%) Type III infections. Four (13.8%) cases were culture-verified. Twenty-three (79.3%) DSWIs were surgically managed. Sternal re-wiring was performed in 14 (48.3%) cases while VAC was added to other therapies in 2 (6.9%) patients. DSWIs completely resolved in 18 (62.0%) patients within 3 - 24 weeks while two (6.9%) patients died within 30 days. Conclusion: We have identified six independent risk factors for DSWI (male gender, obesity, Dm, hypertension, COPD and CPB), five of them are modifiable.

Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is a rodent-borne disease caused by several serotypes of hantavirus and 90% of all reported HFRS cases occur in China. However, the dynamics of such outbreak, particularly the characteristics of two distinct annual peaks in China, are not well understood. Here, we investigate several of the biologically plausible causes for the peaks in monthly HFRS cases, and find that the key factor is the interplay between periodic transmission rates and rodent periodic birth rate. Analysis of dynamical model reveals that vaccination plays a significant role in the control of HFRS in China. Sensitive analysis of different interventions demonstrates that integrating rodent culling and environmental management with the current vaccination program is effective for HFRS control. Our results suggest that for diseases from animals to human beings, the features of both animals and humans beings should be taken into account in the control and prevention strategies.

Objective:To study spatial and temporal variability of fish assemblage in the Shatt Al-Arab ***:This study was conducted from December 2011 to November *** temperature,salinity,dissolved oxygen and transparency were measured from three sites in the *** fishing methods were adopted to collect fish including gill nets,cast net,electro-fishing and hook and *** between the distribution of fish species and the environmental variables were quantified by using canonical correspondence ***:The results showed that the fish assemblage consisted of 58 species representing 46 genera and 27 families belong to Osteichthyes except one(Carcharhinus leucas)relate to *** of species increased in summer and autumn months and sharply decreased in *** ilisha was the most abundant species comprising 27.4%of the catch,followed by Carassius auratus(23.7%)and Liza klunzingeri(10.6%).The dominance(D_(3))value for the main three abundant species was 61.7%.Nine species were caught for the first times from the river include eight *** overall values of diversity index ranged from 0.67 in march to 2.57 in October,richness index from 2.64 in January to 3.71 in September and evenness index from 0.22 in march to 0.73 in ***:Spatially,the fish assemblages of Shatt Al-Arab River can be divided into three ecological fish guilds,namely,common species,seasonal species and occasional species.
